Data detectors

Are data detectors supported in Leopard server? None of our emails that contain dates, for example, are being detected so that we can quickly add them to iCal.

Still not working.. odd. If you reading this, experience the same problem or it is working, please report this here. This is what I found:
Local account -> Data Detectors work
Server based account with home directory on the server-> Data Detectors DON'T work
Same account, same client macine, but now as a moble account on the client machine - > Data detectors work.
I tested this on two different servers by 2 different clients with consistent results (one intel client intel server and the other intel client with a G4 server). I reseted the com.apple.mail.plist but that seems to make no difference. I understand that Data Detectors are an integrated part of the mail app.

  • A thought for another application of Data Detectors

I would like to be able to invoke data detectors on custom data...for example I'm always reading about movies I want to see then forgetting them once I'm at Blockbuster...my thought is ...
Data dectector grabs movie title -> sends it to a list somewhere -> the list is preconfigured to sync with my touch -> touch saves me from the middle aged humiliation of forgetting simple things.
    Is this possible?

    Shaun

    Yup, but that's no fun

  • How to export mail message body data detectors information, not address bok

Is there anyway to export Apple mail's "data detectors" information within the message body other than to the address book? I don't want to export the other non detector information contained in the body of the message. I would also like to include From, Subject and Date. Preferably the export result would be in a organized comma format.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

    James,
Two routes to try come to mind, the first being Applescript. Mail is obviously "aware" of the info contained in the detectors, and of course it knows all about what is contained in the header. You can probably use Applescript to extract the desired data, placing it in a Text Edit document. It has been some time since I haves used Applescript myself, so I won't be much help in guiding you. Regardless, you would need to teach yourself how to use Applescript, even with assistance.
The other route to take would be to drag these emails out of Mail to the Finder, creating standard text files. You could then handle them in one of the command line text editors- scripted, of course- to extract and format the needed data. Again, this is something you'd need to explore on your own.
Since these messages all have the same formatting, it is simply a matter of identifying the data you need, then placing that data in a properly formatted text document. Generally speaking, this is part and parcel of what both Applescript be text editors do.

  • Why doesn't the FedEx Tracking number data detector work in Mail anymore?

    Hi there,
I'm running OS X 10.8.3 and Mail 6.3 (1503).  I had an email come in that had a FedEx Tracking Number.  The data detector picked it up and I was able to right-click and select "Track My Package".  Unfortunately there was a "Communication Error" in the pop-up window so it failed.  When I clicked 'Open in Safari" it worked!  Is anyone else having this issue?

Yes, I can confirm it no longer works. My guess is that FedEx changed their site in some way that broke the lookup from within Mail. You do indeed have to open up Safari (or some other web browser) to track a package now.
    Regards.

  • Data Detector and Australian Addresses

    Hi all,
While for the most part the data detector in Leopard Mail is good, I've noticed that it doesn't fully understand Australian address formats. It correctly identifies the street number/name and suburb - however it doesn't handle our 4 digit post code (equivalent of zip code) and states.
Is there a regional setting I haven't seen or is it just bug/issue?
    Brian

Seems to be bug Brian. I can't get it to add the postcode either, and that's with Australia set as the address format in Address Book.
I can't say if it functions as intended for postal codes in other formats, for other countries.

  • What happened to the data detectors sdk?

I've been looking into creating and customizing the Mac OS data detectors, which I know still function, and I've found the system files for, but can't find any current information (in the last 5 years) about the once touted Data Detectors SDK, or how to work with them.  Anyone have any clues or info on the current status of this technology?

    Do we know why?
probably because orignal osx developers thought osx services is better than contextual menu. which they were wrong... very wrong.
Arent they still used in Mac Mail, iCal, and all over iOS?
yes, but it is not open to us... applescript users. you can give them feedback and ask for it.

  • Data detectors in emails and calendar items

I'm enjoying many of the improvements in the iPhone 3.0 release, but there is still a shortcoming of the iPhone that really nags me. That is the data detectors. For the most simple cases like a well-formatted address and a phone number without an extension the data detectors work well in emails and calendar items.
However, for numbers with extensions (e.g., 800-555-1234 x99) the data detector identifies the text as a phone number, but is then unable to dial it correctly.
Certain addresses with suite numbers or additional information are not handled correctly either. FOr example:
    123 Main Street
    Suite 3, Main Tower
    Springfield, IL 12345
The city, state, and ZIP are identified, but the additional information on the second line prevents the address from being identified.
While these cases certainly are not the majority of phone numbers and addresses, they are certainly quite common (especially the phone extension case).
Trying to use the iPhone to dial into conference calls is also not easy. While the phone number is often recognized, I have to copy down or remember the code that must be dialed after the call is made. If an extension to the data detector for phone numbers could be added to look for things like 6-digit codes shortly following a phone number, or numeric strings following a phone number and the word "code", this would certainly help. Also, fixing the dialing extension issue above could allow people to provide the dial-in code as an extension (e.g., 888-555-1234 x123456).
    Does this bug anyone else?

I should add that not only is the detector unable to dial a phone number with an extension, it actually breaks the ability to dial the number. The detector does detect the extension and underlines it as part of the phone number it detects, but when you tap to dial, you get a standard phone service message that the "number is unable to be dialed". Grrr!!!!
So not only does the detector not give you the ability to dial a number with an extension, it PREVENTS you from dialing the number at all if there is an extension following a phone number in your email/calendar item.
Hope this gets fixed soon -- this is a big complaint of "corporate" iPhone users that are used to the Blackberry dealing with these things easily...

  • Tags for disabling Apple Data Detectors

I am sending out Newsletters and when they are received by Apples different Mail apps (In Mac OSX and iOS) they have some links that most of the time is completely wrong, like a product name becomes a contact link with a jump to Google Maps!
This is very annoying and confusing for my customers who thinks that the mentioned link is a Read More link for more info on the product in the Newsletter. And it makes my company looks bad
I have searched a lot but only found Terminal commands to turn it of in the users end, and I can't expect my customers to do that just to read my Newsletter.
So my question is: Are there any Tags that can be used in my HTML-code for the Newsletter to disable the Data Detection so that I can prevent this from happening when it shouldn't?
    Thanks
    JAN

    did you see this http://appleinsider.com/articles/14/04/10/how-samsung-google-teamed-up-to-steal-apple-data-detectors-for-android
    or http://www.macosxtips.co.uk/index_files/data-detectors-in-mail.php
    X- headers (your not supposed to see headers) are application specific junk, If you look in your mails headers there are probably X-Norton headers. Just as avast puts;
    X-Antivirus: avast! (VPS 150209-0, 09/02/2015), Outbound message
Please do not think having Norton on hand protects you. In most cases these days it simply does not scan mail ( it also does not tell you that) see https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Testing:Antivirus_Related_Performance_Issues#Norton_Security

  • Track shipment data detector

Does anyone know of a way to setup the "Track Shipment" data detector so it will use Canada Post insted of US Mail? the detector would be very handy if it would default to Canada Post for use in Canada.

I have the very same problem. Seems that nobody ever found a way to fix it or set some service as their default option. If you got it working pls let me know. Thank you.

  • IPhone data detector tech absent?

The iPhone seems to be missing a very helpful technology that works very well in Apple's Mail App, it's called Data Detectors, I think. This tech would really make sense on the iPhone seeing typing is a pain in the neck and I find copying and pasting a chore ( although it is better than the previous iPhone software).
Anyways, I want Data Detectors tech on the iPhone!

  • Data Detector Format

If I add a new contact directly in Address Book, it is created as "Last First Middle Suffix"; however, if I add via a Mail data detector it is created as "Last Middle First Suffix".
Is there a way to correct this, so the two are identical?

    Thanks, Denis.
But my question is if I need to convert the data into the special format? Not How.
For instance, the value I have is 10 and do I need to convert it into "10.00              "?
    Thanks,
    Dennis

  • Data Detector removal

How do I remove the data detector from the Mail. I copy and paste email addresses and peoples name and address all day long from emails. The data detector only gets in the way and makes it hard to copy. So I really want to get rid of it in the new Mail that came with Leopard. I would appreciate any help I can get.

    Hi Teymur Hajiyev,
Deferring the LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_N parameters are not enough to detach the standby from the primary. There will be other complications for instance when he tries to backup archivelogs. Please follow the error: RMAN-08137: WARNING: archive log not deleted as it is still needed
He should also need to disable the data guard configuration and set the LOG_ARCHIVE_CONFIG to null.
    OganHi, Ogan Ozdogan.
Thanks for your comments. Disabling - I mean removing them, not DEFER-ing.
By the way, the error which you are talking about, is possible also with STREAMS configuration.

  • Mail data detector errors

Mail improperly renders the screen areas around data detectors. This includes times, addresses, and URLs. I'm attaching an example showing three improperly rendered data detectors in one email. Has anyone else experienced this? This happens in OS X 10.7 and 10.8 Mail. Scrolling the email leaves the blotchy spots in place on the screen with the email moving up and down behind it. I've reset my graphics card and parameter ram to no effect. Any suggestions? It's really annoying.
    -Dave

Yeah. Same thing here. I thought it was just a "one day" thing (as I don't use Mail too often) but the issue persisted. go into terminal and paste this:
    defaults write com.apple.mail DisableDataDetectors YES
    seemed to do the trick.

  • Date detector not working in Mail

I have tested with numerous date formats but I never get the box with the option to add to ICAL. I upgraded to Leopard two weeks ago.
    Thanks,

do you happen to have plug ins that you used with ical and mail that you used to do that, and are still installed? if so i would quit ical and mail disable/uninstall them, then trash/delete your com.apple.ical.plist, the launch ical and mail again and see if that solves your issue.
    hope this helps
