Data in text files

Hi ,
I would like to write an application/applet that is kind of like Outlook calendar. But I would like to store all the events/meetings information of each user as a TEXT file (encrypted form). The user can see their calendar from anywhere without the need of any DB software. How feasible is it considering they might store events for abt an year ??

I agree with Yogee that a database is the way to go, you could do it without a one, but by the time you get about halfway through the year that is going to be one large flat file and parsing it to satisfy a query will be about as slow as keeping a physical pen and paper calendar hanging on you office wall with all your meeting times and appointments on it.

    Did a testing and following are the result
    I have
    A> created package having steps like
    1. Declaration of variable v_filename.
    2. Refreshing variable v_filename.
    3. Execution of Interface which gets the file name from v_filename and load into target table
    Package executes successfully.

Goal is to find a record and print that record only, but for now i am trying to print all the records. Once i get that i will change my code to search desired record and print it. when i click the find button nothing happens. Can you please take a look at my code, dbTest() method. thanks.
    void dbTest() {

    String dbRecord = null;

  • How to extract data from  text file to database table

    Hi ,
    I am trying to upload  data in text file to database table  using GUI_UPLOAD function .what would be the program for that.
    thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    I don't think you have a standard sap program to upload data from file to database table...
    Instead you can create a custom program like this..
    DATA: T_FILEDATA(1000) OCCURS 0 WITH HEADER LINE.
    DATA: T_ZTABLE LIKE ZTABLE OCCURS 0 WITH HEADER LINE.
    CALL FUNCTION 'GUI_UPLOAD'

  • Remove duplicates while loading data from text file

    Hi,
    Data in text file (some times has duplicates) is being loaded into Oracle 9i database using Informatica. To improve performance, we would like to remove duplicates at the time of each load using Oracle procedure. Could you please help me with this?

    No, our table doesn't have that. Most of the functionality is managed at the informatica level. Is there any other way? Thanks,

    how can I remove these spaces between columns.I used set space 0 but not working.
    Thanks in advance.
    Your help will be appreciated.

    Hi Frank,
    I have seen your reply for SET LINE SIZE function. But, I could not be able to understand it.
    I am facing similar kind of issue in my present project.
    I am trying spool more than 50 columns from a table into flat file. Because of more column lengths in few columns, i am getting space. There are so many columns with the same issue. I want to remove that space.so that, data can fit perfectly in one line in .txt file without any wrap text.

  • How to export bulk data in text file

    Dear,
    We have an requirement to get data from GL CONTAINING below tables, but it's taking lot of time, could you share the best way to get data in text file as quick as possiable.
    from gl_je_headers_v,gl_je_lines,GL_JE_CATEGORIES
    ,gl_code_combinations_v
    where gl_je_headers_v.je_header_id = gl_je_lines.je_header_id
    AND GL_JE_CATEGORIES.je_category_name = gl_je_headers_v.je_category
    and gl_code_combinations_v.CODE_COMBINATION_ID =
    gl_je_lines.code_combination_id
    and gl_code_combinations_v.CHART_OF_ACCOUNTS_ID = 50349
    AND gl_je_headers_v.PERIOD_NAME = 'SEP-2012'

    it's based on formatting data in text file
    you can use utl_file but it's row by row process your data
    you can try spool
    as example
    spool c:\tmp\myfile.txt
    select *
    from emp;
    spool off;or try export for example in sql developer

  • Charting data from text file in LabVIEW 5.1 for Windows

    I am having some difficulties trying to figure out how to plot a chart with
    data from a file. I would like to be able to read data from a text file
    into a chart using LabVIEW 5.1 for Windows. I have looked in the help
    within the program and online. I have also looked in the user manual and
    the book "LabVIEW for Everyone". Could you please give me specific
    instructions on how I would construct the program to be able to do this.
    Thank you.

    Hi Ellie,
    It depends on how data is stored in that txt file. Usually you load the data into an array either using or , the array if necessary and send it to the graph indicator in required form. If you want a more detailed answer, send me a sample data file ([email protected]).

  • Writing HTML data in TEXT File

    I am writing HTML content in TEXT file ...I read it in a string and then write using PrintStream...
    But it writes all content on one line ..I want to write it as it was in source HTML file...

    Perchance, the OP is referring to the lack of carriage returns in his outputted data, and querying where they have absconded to? An analysis of his posts to date reveals that he has read the contents of a File into a String variable, and wants to write the (presumably modified) String back to a file (uncertain as to whether this is the same file or a different one) In the process of outputting to said file, carriage returns previously contained in the original input file are not present in the output. I would hazard a guess that the OP does not want said carriage returns in the String to disappear.
    Is my analysis of the situation correct?
    An example of the code that you have written to date would be of extreme usefulness to us in aiding you in your noble quest.
    Without such a resource, I must rely on my intuition instead.
    Possible places that the carriage returns are being "dropped"
    1 - On reading in. Are you discarding carriage returns while building up your variable?
    2 - On manipulating. Are you processing this line by line, or reading it all into one large variable?
    3 - On output - are you using "print" or "println" in the output?
    I look forward to further correspondence with you sir

  • Create a new dimension in business layer from Data source: text file on the web

    Hi,
    I have a text data source which is published every few hours that is accessible from a certain URL. I follow the instruction given in this http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-43144 - where it shows in great detail how to create the connection, data foundation as well as business layer to create a universe for this type of data.
    All is well - I can use this universe in my WEBI doc and display the data.
    However, in order for me to merge the data from this universe with another universe, I need to create  new dimension based on the data from the text file. The new dimension value is simply the first 4 characters of the Subject found in the text file. The "Subject" dimension is of variant type: varchar.
    Following the guide mentioned earlier, the connection is using SAP BO OpenConnectivity driver. And this driver limits severely the SQL statement that I can use to extract a substring of another string. Here's the screenshot of the SQl expression that I can use with this driver
    After hours of searching, I cannot find any other connection driver for a text file that's published on a certain URL. The BO OpenConnection driver is the best that I could find.
    So here are my problems
    1. one of my data source is a text file published on a web
    2. the only connection I can create does not allow me to create  new dimension in the universe to create an important column "subject ID"
    3. I can create the column in webi as a variable. But when I do so, I cannot merge it with existing dimension (webi not allowing to merge these 2 types). And without the merge, the flat file universe with my database universe can't be combined.
    I'm using WEBI Rich client version 4.1 SP3 Patch 1. Build 14.1.3.1300
    Is there any other idea that you can suggest without requiring to change the extracted data?
    Thanks.
    With warm regards

    Hi Bala,
    Were you able to find out a solution for the problem with uploading values for a variable from a text file on the web?  I am confronted with the same request from users.

  • Error while loading the data from text file

    Hi,
    I got an error " Data Value Encountered before all Dimensions selected" while loading the data from the text file.
    Can any one please suggest me the solution.

    Possible Solutions
    Make sure that the data source is valid.
    Is a member from each dimension specified correctly in the data source or rules file?
    Is the numeric data field at the end of the record? If not, move the numeric data field in the data source or move the numeric data field in the rules file.
    Are all members that might contain numbers (such as "100") enclosed in quotation marks in the data source?
    If you are using a header, is the header set up correctly? Remember that you can add missing dimension names to the header.
    Does the data source contain extra spaces or tabs?
    Has the updated outline been saved?

  • Deleting data from text files

    Hi there,
    I am having a real battle trying to delete data from a text file I am using. There seems to be this giant cloud with Java, where there is no real easy way to delete text from a file??
    I have a JFrame with two textfields on it where you enter the username and pcname. There is a OK button once you have entered those details.
    On action event I would like those two details, to be removed from the text file that has been read in.
    I have a text file like this:
    bob
    pc1
    bill
    pc2
    The data above gets written no problem, one at at a time using the below.
    File f = new File("\\c:\\filename.txt");
    String strToWrite;
    try
    FileOutputStream fstr = new FileOutputStream(f);
    strToWrite = username1+ '\r'+'\n' ;
    byte[] bytes = strToWrite.getBytes(); fstr.write(bytes);
    strToWrite = pcname1 + '\r'+'\n' ;
    byte[] bytes2 = strToWrite.getBytes(); fstr.write(bytes2);
    strToWrite = username2+ '\r' +'\n' ;
    byte[] bytes3 = strToWrite.getBytes(); fstr.write(bytes3);
    strToWrite = pcname2 + '\r'+'\n' ;
    byte[] bytes4 = strToWrite.getBytes(); fstr.write(bytes4);
    catch (IOException e)
    System.out.println("Error -- " + e.toString());
    To read them back in I have made the follwoing:
    BufferedReader br= null;
    Count = 0;
    try
    br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(new FileInputStream("\\c:\\filename.txt")));
    String s = "";
    while((s=br.readLine()) != null )
    Count = 1;
         //System.out.println("Data is " + s);
         inboundtext = s;
         if ( Count == 1 )
    break;
    while((s=br.readLine()) != null )
    //System.out.println("Data is " + s);
    inboundtext = s;
    Count = 2;
    if ( Count == 2 )
    break;
    catch(IOException ie)
    finally
    try
         if(br!=null) br.close();
    catch(Exception e)
    Now the above I know, is reading each line of the text file one at a time.
    Now what I would like is that when the text that we got from the textfields, using getText(), be removed from the file without destroying the rest of the records in there? Why is it so easy to add and replace files, but not do any deleting from them?
    please help!!

    sorry, FileOutputStream fstr = new FileOutputStream(f);
    should be FileOutputStream fstr = new FileOutputStream(f, true);

  • Problem with saving data in text file in Application server

    Hello Experts,
    I am trying to save a text file in application server.When I text file have less that 60000 (i.e 59999) records, it saves the file successfully, but if records in text file (saved in application server) is more than 60000 (i.e 60002), it creates a new file at the 60000th record with the continued records.
    Can anyone please advise, why it is creating a new file if records are more that 60000. I tested it with 59000 records in my internal table and it is working fine. I have not given any restriction in my program to create a new file if records are more than 60000.

  • Problem while downloading data to text file using GUI_DOWNLOAD FM

    Hi,
    When we download the data using the GUI_DOWNLOAD FM into the text file tab delimeted(table is built dynamically),
    Its coming in this format as shown below
    Field1  Fileld2  Field3
    1     2      3
    However I want it in this way
    Field1  Fileld2  Field3
    1          2         3
    Could someone please let me know how to achieve this?

    Do something like this:
    concatenate field1 field2 field3 into lv_outx "(data of sufficient length, type c)
    separated by gc_tab.  "Horizontal tab constant created as note above
    condense lv_outx no-gaps.  "squeeze out extraneous spaces but beware if you have text with spaces...drop the no-gaps.
    append lv_outx to my_internal_table.  "table with a single field type char, sufficient length
    open dataset  datasetname...
    loop at my_internal_table into ls_internaltabstructure.
      transfer internaltabstructure-outx to datasetName [length if needed].
    endloop.
