Data in XML format (XML files) to BW?

Hi,
My customer is interested in loading data to BW (from 3rd party system) in XML format. Are there any advantages of doing this (compared to traditional ascii files)? How about disadvantages (BW version is 3.5) ?. How to get started with this one, I noticed there is a possibility to create a XML data source. Is this able to take XML files into BW or what?.
Any help highly appreciated!

  • Generating an XML formated text file

    Hi all
    I am a PL/SQL programmer and have no idea about XML :-(
    I am using ORACLE 10g and my application generates atleast 100 text files a day for customers. These files are manipulated using Utl_File package and gets data from the DB.These files are tab or comma delimeted. Now company wants to give an option to customers to get the same output in XML format. My understanding is that I need to get information from customers first to make the report template for them and then use some XML parser to get data from DB and give an output using that customer's specific template.
    I wanna know, if there is any whitepaper or manual that can guide me step by step. I just need to make an idea how the things can go togather and the sequence of operation. I also wanna use only PL/SQL and not Java at this time.

  • Compare two tables that are in XML format (xml diff)

    I have two tables in XML-format and need to list differences in
    1. Structure and/or
    2. Content
    SAP offers CL_SXIVERI_XML_COMPARATOR, but this is too simplistic for the requirement.
    Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you!

    Hi Adrian,
    You can convert the data from the XML file to an internal table. Once the data is in the internal table you can easily paly with it
    Refer to this Wiki for details: [https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/ABAP/UploadXMLfiletointernal+table].
    You can also check Simple Transformations as well.

  • How do you vary the Date/Time stamp format in File Adapters

    In the receiver channel of the File Adapter where you specify the 'File Name Scheme', you do have the option of specifying a 'File Construction Mode' of 'Add Time Stamp'.  How can you specify a different Date/Time stamp format ( eg MM/DD/YY vs YYYYMMDD vs MMDDYY, etc. ) without changing the Date/Time stamp for the entire SAP system?  Also, can you control where the Date/Time stamp appears in the filename?

    Hi,
    There are many threads discussing the same issue. Go thro the following:
    Dynamic file name (Date) in Receiver File Adapter
    Receiver File Adapter - TimeStamp
    Bhavesh's reply in above thread:
    You can use Adapter Specific Identifiers and then change the file name in the mapping. Append the tiem stamp in the format that you want and so on.
    Just use this code in an UDF,
    DynamicConfiguration conf = (DynamicConfiguration) container.getTransformationParameters().get(StreamTransformationConstants.DYNAMIC_CONFIGURATION);
    DynamicConfigurationKey key = DynamicConfigurationKey.create("http://sap.com/xi/XI/System/File","FileName");
    String SourceFileName = conf.get(key);
    java.text.SimpleDateFormat dateformat = new java.text.SimpleDateFormat( "yyyyMMdd" );
    dateformat.format( new java.util.Date() );
    String newfilename=SourceFileName+dateformat;
    // change to new file name
    conf.put(key, newfilename);
    return "";

  • Xml formated xml query

    I'm looking for a stored procedure (Oracle8i) like:
    function getXML(xmlQuery in varchar2) return xmlResults;
    The xmlQuery string will be formatted something like:
    <Query>
    <ColLst>SSN, LAST_NAME, PHONE_NUM<ColLst/>
    <Table>EMPLOYEE<Table/>
    <Where>SSN='123456789'<Where/>
    <Query/>
    And the return will look something like:
    <EMPLOYEE Row="1">
    <SSN>123456789<SSN/>
    <LAST_NAME>Glasgow<LAST_NAME/>
    <PHONE_NUM>336-657-8309<PHONE_NUM/>
    <EMPLOYEE/>
    Hopefully it would accept a ColLst value of "*".
    Hopefully it would handle mutiple query requests in the single XML document.
    Thanks,

  • Format XML data when writing to a file

    Hi,
    I am trying to write runtime data (XML) to a file. I am doign the following to write to the file:
    public void saveFile() throws Exception {
    try {
    TransformerFactory transformerFactory =
    TransformerFactory.newInstance();
    Transformer transformer = transformerFactory.newTransformer();
    DOMSource source = new DOMSource(doc);
    OutputStream output = new FileOutputStream(XMLFile);
    StreamResult result = new StreamResult();
    transformer.transform(source, result);
    output.flush();
    output.close();
    } catch (Exception x) {
    throw x;
    The output from the above code is a clutter of elements. All the elements are on the same line some times.
    1) How can I format the output? (Indent the elements in the file)
    Is there a way to achieve this?
    Sometimes, I see a square character at the end of some lines. I thought the output file is corrupt because of this character. But it does not seem to be a problem.
    2) How do I avoid this character?

    Also, I am planning on using xpath in conjunction with DOM. However I read on one of the websites not to use too many xpath queries. I am using jdk 1.5.
    Is it tight. My code might have to be run many times. Is the following ok?
    or should I eliminate xpath and do my own traversing. I am concerned about runtime performance if I have to continue to update the xml file frequently.
    public Element getMatchingNode(MyAttributes attr) throws Exception {
    try {
    File myFile = new File(XMLFile);
    if (myFile.exists()) {
    System.out.println(XMLFile + " File exists");
    XPathFactory factory = XPathFactory.newInstance();
    XPath xPath = factory.newXPath();
    InputSource inputSource =
    new InputSource(new FileInputStream(myFile));
    String matchingString = this.getMatchingString(attr);
    Element module =
    (Element)xPath.evaluate("/" + TEST_TAG +
    "/" +
    TEST_TAG2 +
    "/" +
    DETAIL +
    matchingString,
    inputSource,
    XPathConstants.NODE);
    return module;
    } else
    return null;
    } catch (Exception x) {
    throw x;
    private String getMatchingString(MyAttributes attrs){
    StringBuffer buffer = new StringBuffer();
    for (Enumeration e=attrs.keys(); e.hasMoreElements();){
    String attribute = (String)e.nextElement();
    String value = attrs.get(attribute);
    buffer.append("[@" + attribute + "=" + "'" + value + "']");
    return buffer.toString();
    }

  • Ack file date and time format is same as in source xml format

    Hi...All,
    1) my scenario is file-rfc-file using BPM,
    we are getting file in xml format from source along with timestamp and this data will be going to R/3 and the acknowledgement (success or failure) file will be sending back to source system.
    in this sceneario we have to fulfill in the follwing client requirement
    File1.<same File1 date and time>.XML
    Is it possible to make it as the following? if it is possible
    could u please let me know how to fulfill the follwing requirement.
    ACK File1.<same File1 date and time>.XML
    Where <same File1 date and time> format = u2018YYYYMMDDhhmmssu2019 .
    2) Is the XML file name visible in the SAP-XI monitoring screen and will it help to trace the messages?
    thanks in advance,
    Pasi.

    Hi,
    I didnot under stand your first question coulf you be more specfic.
    2. Ans : In general , we will follow the below steps
    --First we we check for the file is picked or no, if not see the Sender side CC parameters like mode and path details
    --If file was picked then we need to check whether we are using the File content conversion parameters or not if yes we need to check the FCC parameters ,
    Goto RWB-Channelmonitoring by the following link
    http://host:port/mdt/channelmonitorservlet
    select the sender side CC name and check for errors
    If no errors in above, goto SXMB_MONI for Integration Engine xml processing , check for successful or error occured black or red color
    --if success in SXMB_MONI then we need to check in RWB as above channel monitor now select the receiver side CC
    If no errors then check for output file is placed intarget or not
    Please reward points if it helps
    Thanks

    Hi i need to write the data from an XML file to a Microsoft SQL SErver database!
    i got a piece of code from the net which allows me to parse th file:
    import java.io.IOException;
    import org.xml.sax.*;
    import org.xml.sax.helpers.*;
    import org.apache.xerces.parsers.SAXParser;
    import java.lang.*;
    public class MySaxParser extends DefaultHandler
    private static int INDENT = 4;
    private static String attList = "";
    public static void main(String[] argv)
    if (argv.length != 1)
    System.out.println("Usage: java MySaxParser [URI]");
    System.exit(0);
    String uri = argv[0];
    try
    XMLReader parser = XMLReaderFactory.createXMLReader("org.apache.xerces.parsers.SAXParser");
    MySaxParser MySaxParserInstance = new MySaxParser();
    parser.setContentHandler(MySaxParserInstance);
    parser.parse(uri);
    catch(IOException ioe)
    ioe.printStackTrace();
    catch(SAXException saxe)
    saxe.printStackTrace();
    private int idx = 0;
    public void characters(char[] ch, int start, int length)
    throws SAXException
    String s = new String(ch, start, length);
    if (ch[0] == '\n')
    return;
    System.out.println(getIndent() + " Value: " + s);
    public void endDocument() throws SAXException
    idx -= INDENT;
    public void endElement(String uri, String localName, String qName) throws SAXException
    if (!attList.equals(""))
    System.out.println(getIndent() + " Attributes: " + attList);
    attList = "";
    System.out.println(getIndent() + "end document");
    idx -= INDENT;
    public void startDocument() throws SAXException

    public void startElement(String uri,
    String localName,
    String qName,
    Attributes attributes) throws SAXException
    idx += INDENT;
    System.out.println('\n' + getIndent() + "start element: " + localName);
    if (localName.compareTo("Machine") == 0)
    System.out.println("YES");
    if (attributes.getLength() > 0)
    idx += INDENT;
    for (int i = 0; i < attributes.getLength(); i++)
    attList = attList + attributes.getLocalName(i) + " = " + attributes.getValue(i);
    if (i < (attributes.getLength() - 1))
    attList = attList + ", ";
    idx-= INDENT;
    private String getIndent()
    StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer();
    for (int i = 0; i < idx; i++)
    sb.append(" ");
    return sb.toString();
    }// END PRGM
    Now , am not a very good Java DEv. and i need to find a soln. to this prob within 1 week.
    The next step is to write the data to the DB.
    Am sending an example of my file:
    <Start>
    <Machine>
    <Hostname> IPCServer </Hostname>
    <HostID> 80c04499 </HostID>

    </Machine>
    </Start>
    Note that i can have more than 1 machines (meaning that i have to loop thru the file to be able to write to the DB)
    Cal u tellme what to do!
    Even better- do u have a piece of code that will help me understand and implement the database writing portion?
    I badly need help here.

    thanks alot

    This is a fixed file format. We need to know the length of each field before creating the format file. Say you have said the first 5 characters are Bank ID and 6th to 7th as Employee ID ... then the XML should look like,
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <BCPFORMAT xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2004/bulkload/format"
    xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">

      <FIELD ID="4" xsi:type="CharFixed" LENGTH="14"/>
      <FIELD ID="5" xsi:type="CharFixed" LENGTH="14"/>
      <FIELD ID="6" xsi:type="CharFixed" LENGTH="1"/>

    />
      <COLUMN SOURCE="5" NAME="c5" xsi:type="SQLINT"
    />
    </ROW>
    </BCPFORMAT>
    Note: Similarly you need to specify the other length as well.

  • XML data (Output) into a flat file

    I need to convert XML data into a flat file, which is having "|" as delimiter and ftp the same to a server. The XML data is an output of BPEL activity. The XML data is employee records. Each employee records should come as one line in the flat file.
    Is it possible to do this? if so, what will be the steps
    Thanks

    Hi,
    You need to use file adapter to write your XML payload as a flat file.
    Following are the steps to write XML payload into a flat file:
    1. Create a sample flat file and add few rows in which fields should be delimited with pipe symbol. See the record sample given below:
    Name|Age|Address|City|State|Zip
    Sam|32|2788 Viking Dr|Green Bay|WI|54304
    Here first row is the header row, you can remove the header row if it is not required.
    2. Create a file adapter service using adapter configuration wizard. Give file name and folder location where you want to write flat file. On step 5 of the adapter configuration wizard you have to define or select message schema. Click on Define Schema for Native Format button, then Native Format Builder Wizard will be opened, here you can define message schema for your flat file.
    2.1 Here you need to select Delimited for file type.
    2.2 Give details about your flat file, select your sample flat file here, which you have created in step 1 above.
    2.3 Click Next button twice and go to step 4, here give namespace and element names you want and click on Next.
    2.4 In step 5 you need to specify delimiters. Wizard doesn’t shows *|* as a delimiter so you need to enter *|* in the Delimited By combo box and click on Next button.
    2.5 Complete remaining steps and click on Finish in the wizard.
    3. Finish "Adapter Creation Wizard". Add BPEL activities (assign, invoke) to pass XML payload to file adapter and file adapter will generate *|* delimited flat file and write it to the given folder.
    See the following article for more details on Native Format Builder Wizard:

  • How to create a data connection with dynamic XML file?

    Thanks for all reply first!
    I have formatted the submitted data into an XML file on the server side,this file can be import to PDF form correctly.
    I try to send this XML file to the user to let him can review what he has submitted.
    I guess that I should create a data connection to the XML file so that it can be reviewed by the user.
    But the question is that the XML file is dynamic generated.
    How can i do?
    give me some clus or examples,please.
    thanks,
    Jasper.

    Hi Jasper,
    To show user back the result, you can use PDF instead of XML. You can store the PDF template in server and you can merge XML data with PDF template by Livecycle Form Data Integration service.
    We, as KGC, can generate huge number of Adobe Livecycle forms in small periods. Also we give consultancy on Adobe Livecycle ES products and Adobe Livecyle Designer. In case of any need, do not hesitate to contact us.
