Database applet not working in browser

I am working on windows 2000 server. I have an applet that connects to a ms access database.Everything works in appletviewer. When i try to view the applet in ie i get the following error:
Error: java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.lang.RuntimePermission accessClassInPackage.sun.jdbc.odbc)
null
Error: java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.lang.RuntimePermission accessClassInPackage.sun.jdbc.odbc)
null
access denied (java.lang.RuntimePermission accessClassInPackage.sun.jdbc.odbc)
Basically i am trying to serve the applet on IIS. When I try to access the html page from
a different machine, the applet loads and looks good except fails to connect with the database and display
data.
Any help will be highly appreciated.

You are not allowed to access Databases directly form an applet
This is a security issue in Java Applets.

  • Applet Not Working in Browser

    I built a java applet that works fine in the applet viewer, but just appears as a gray screen in a web browser. In the status bar of the web browser, it says that the applet has been started. The only possible cause of this that I can think of is a failure to connect to the internet. The program should appear like that if it fails to connect to the internet when it first starts. If this is the problem, please see my other post about making that work.
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=31&thread=449444&tstart=0&trange=15

    1) What Browser?
    2) What is you code?
    1) If it is Internet Explorer, the problem would be an outdated JVM. MS JVM only supports up to Java 1.1.8 so you would have to rework your Applet to fit with just those classes/methods present at that time (ie no Swing, and check the APIs to make sure that the since version isn't past 1.1.
    If you are using other browsers, the old JVM may be a problem as well. It should be easy enough to install the latest one.
    2) Start out with something simple, like a hello world. Get that to work, then worry about the more complicated stuff.

  • Applet not working in browser, works with appletviewer

    Hi,
    I'm trying to use an Applet program from the tutorials which keeps on displaying time in the HTML page:
    import java.awt.Graphics;
    import java.util.*;
    import java.text.DateFormat;
    import java.applet.Applet;
    public class home_page extends Applet implements Runnable {
        private Thread clockThread = null;
        public void init()
        public void start() {
            if (clockThread == null) {
                clockThread = new Thread(this, "Clock");
                clockThread.start();
        public void run() {
            Thread myThread = Thread.currentThread();
            while (clockThread == myThread) {
                repaint();
                try {
                    Thread.sleep(1000);
                } catch (InterruptedException e){
                // the VM doesn't want us to sleep anymore,
                // so get back to work
        public void paint(Graphics g) {
            // get the time and convert it to a date
            Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance();
            Date date = cal.getTime();
            // format it and display it
            DateFormat dateFormatter = DateFormat.getTimeInstance();
            g.drawString(dateFormatter.format(date), 5, 20);
        // overrides Applet's stop method, not Thread's
        public void stop() {
            clockThread = null;
    }When i use this program in the browser, i cannot see the clock but i'm able to see only a gray box. I'm using the applet tag within the HTML page.
    I can see the same compiled applet running successfully with appletviewer program.
    Please help me out of this predicament.
    -Manish

    I have recently had the same problem, after lots of searching, I found that only Java 1.1 is supported by browsers, leaving out everything else including swing. So if you cant play the applet through your browser you need to download the appropriate patch i think about 5mbs.
    You should find one at java.sun.com/getjava/download.html
    Mine worked fine afterwards

    Hi
    Just a thought, but what broswer are you and your friend using? Are they different by any chance?
    There is an inconsistency between browsers and java, and unfortunately it can result in the error you saw.
    Basically, bog standard Internet Explorer uses its own JVM, whereas Netscape, Mozilla, Opera etc tend to use the java plug-in. To make matters worse, if you install the plug-in on a machine that has Internet Explorer installed, it over-rules the Microsoft version to make itself the default (but this can be undone by looking in the Options menu for Java-plugin and un-ticking the box). Give that a try first.
    Another cause that I have encountered was when using NT on a network, which had been configured not to accept Java Applets at all! Are you on such a network, or stand alone?
    Hope that helps.

  • Java applet not working savevid keepvid

    Hi all,
    I'm sure I'm not the only one who has been confounded by Java applets not working in certain download web services; in my case, keepvid.com and savevid.com to download copies of youtube videos.  It has been a huge headache and even debilitating in my case.  I teach film and video to middle schoolers, and we often use youtube as a resource for our class projects.
    I found a solution today, I think, and wanted to share it:
    I installed the browser called "Torch" and it seems to work fine, so far.

    thanx 4 replying
    using the browser to view Applet is not recomended that is because if u change the the source-code and recompile the applet then run it using the broswer it will run the old-version
    Also i've found the solution here

    I had a problem of accessing Oracle 10g database homepage. After a couple of days of research and discussions with coworker we found a solution.
    Here is the solution:
    1. Find out your default browser.
    2. Configure your default web browser to connect to the Oracle Database XE Database Home Page as stated
    here:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25329_01/doc/install.102/b25143/toc.htm#CIHHJEHF
    If this does not help de-install Oracle XE and reinstall following the instruction. During re-installation find out your default browser and configure it as instructed.
    I suspect when the default web browser changes the Oracle 10g XE Database Home Page stops working.
    Good luck

    maybe I am not very clear about the problem one. I mean when I run the code in standard mode, if I click the browse button, a window will pop out and I can choose a video file from my local harddisk. but if I run it in "web start execution" mode and "run in browser" mode. the browse button make no response when I click it.

  • E72 - Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V not working in browser

    yesterday i updated my nokia e72 mobile to latest firmware 31 , after that Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V and Ctrl+A shortcut keys are not working in browser. which have made me feel as bad as typing the same text again and again (usfel in blogging or web messaging).
    ALthough these shortcut keys are working in notes and sms application, but not in browser and Quick office applications (word, ecxel etc).
    Can some one tell , how to fix it. or do i need to wait for next firware update. firmware 31 was released on 31 of march 2010. and today is 26th of May. almost two months have passed, and nokia has not yet released patch for this bug ....
    Nokia, how long i need to wait ?, for this bug fix release.

    (Had to edit because didn't read previous post clearly.)
    I originally thought this was a problem of Quick office 6.2.217 Nokia_S603.2. I think it is a Nokia firmware problem as the previous post had stated.

  • After upgrading ACS 3.3.1 to 4.2 on windows the local database is not working

    Hi,
    I have upgaded the ACS 3.3.1 for windows server to 4.2. Everything went fine but the local database is not working.
    The CD is an upgrade kit from 3.x to 4.2 on windows. I tried to install directly the 4.2 I was able to install but integration with AD/LDAp is not working. Anysay its an upgrade kit so I cant expect it shoud work when install drectly the 4.2 but by upgrading from 3.3 to 4.2 everything should work fine.
    I followed the upgradation path as recomended.
    Also we have a requirment that once it is upgraded to 4.2 we need to shift the whole thing from the physical server to a virtual machine on VMware ESX server 3.5.
    Can anybody pls guide me if anything else to do after the upgradation.
    Thanks & Regards
    Sachi

    Hi Javier,
    First of all I was facing a problem of restoring the old database of 3.3 to 4.2. Somehow I overcame that issue by following the below steps. Now local authentication is working fine but AD/other External database authentication is not working. As you told the setting for the unknown users are configured to fetch the credentials from the external database if it is not in the local database.
    Do we need to do anything in the AD itself?
    Regards
    Sachi
    Steps for ACS upgrade to 4.2 version
    Below are the requested steps mentioned for the up gradation from ACS 3.3.2 to ACS 4.2.
            1)     Take a configuration backup from existing ACS. ACS--->System
    configuration----> ACS Backup
    2)    now if you have  ACS 3.3.2 on server. take backup of the ACS
    3)   Insert the cd or if you have the set up on the system then  Run the setup of ACS 3.3.4. During the process it will prompt you to
    upgrade existing configuration. Make sure you check that option else we will
    loose the database. Now you need to hit next.next to finish the 3.3.4 upgrade.
    4)     Once you are at 3.3.4, take a backup and keep it handy.
    5)     Run the setup of 4.1.1. During this process it will prompt you to
    upgrade existing configuration. Make sure you check that option else we will
    loose the database. Now you need to hit next.next to finish the 4.1 upgrade.
    6)Once you are at 4.1.1.24 take a backup and keep it handy.
    7)     Run the setup of 4.2. During this process it will prompt you to
    upgrade existing configuration. Make sure you check that option else we will
    loose the database. Now you need to hit next.next to finish the 4.2 upgrade.
    8)     Once you are at 4.2 take a backup and keep it handy. Now run the
    patch 12 and take a backup again.
    9)     Now fresh install 4.2 on your new production server and install patch
    12. Restore the 4.2 patch 12 backup and you should be all set.

       mainPanel.setOpaque(false); // Needed for Applet

    Thanks for the response. I don't quite understand what you're talking about though. I have, in my humble knowledge, done nothing with packages. I have put the applet class (WiaRekenToolActiz.class is the applet class) in the jar file wia_actiz_archive.jar. From what I read on the tutorial, java looks for the applet class in all the jar files specified. Since I put my CODEBASE as the main url, I thought it baiscally didn't matter where you out the html file.
    I shall include the complete html page complete with applet tag to perhaps illuminate a bit more what I mean...

    <title>Wia Rekenmodule hello!</title>

  • Applet with Image not working in Browser, works fine in Appletviewer

    Hi,
    I encountered a problem , running my Applet in a browser. (IE and Firefox, ame problem).
    When I use an ImageIcon, it doesnot work. in a browser.(When I remove the icon, it's oke)
    In Appletviewer it works fine. In the browser I first got a security-exception.
    I dealed with that by signing the jar (with the test certificate).
    Now the browser's java console is not showin any faults, but the applet is showing no picture at all.
    Only the text of the label is shown.
    Can someone help me?
    I downgraded the class to a very simple form, shown underneath. This runs fine in Appletviewer, but not in a Browser.
    Best Regards
    Remco

    I have recently had the same problem, after lots of searching, I found that only Java 1.1 is supported by browsers, leaving out everything else including swing. So if you cant play the applet through your browser you need to download the appropriate patch i think about 5mbs.
    You should find one at java.sun.com/getjava/download.html
    Mine worked fine afterwards

  • Applet work well in appletviewer but do not work within browser

    hi, i created an applet that works well in appletviewer,but it does not work within a firefox browser, it issue a message: java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.io.FilePermission imgDir/vsam.jpg read). What can i do to solve this issue please ?

    sign the applet, use doprivileged and trust the applet when you open it.
    Use htmlconverter in jdk/bin folder to convert you applet so it uses
    object tag instead of applet so IE won't try to run it with msjvm.
    Signing applets:

    second post and reply 18 for the java class file using doprivileged
    Still problems?

  • Java Applets not working using IE 6 after uninstalling software

    I uninstalled some software on WinXP using Add/Remove, however the software still left remnants on my system. I tried to removing all the entries in the registry with RegEdit....I will confess I am a rookie with that tool, however now IE 6 will not launch Java Applets on the web sites I visit.
    I also have Mozilla Firefox 8 installed and Java Applets work fine using that browser. Do I have to reinstall WinXP to correct IE 6, or is there an easier alternative?
    Thanks for any suggestions
    Gerry

    Please check out in the IE Explorer Tools--> Internet Options --> in this Advanced tab this will display you with the set of options and chceck boxes...
    in that please check out that whether the Java(SUN) --- (USe Java....<applet> Requires reStart...
    is existing or not if existing please check it and restart the system.
    if it is not existing in your broser then you have to install the JRE in the system for your Applet to work..
    That can be downloaded form...
