Database effects of changing OS time
Hi all,
Does anyone know or have any links to articles that specfiy whether changing the OS time (putting it back in time) will effect the database in any way? Mainly I would just like to know whether or not the database will continue to run normally.
I believe that doing this shouldn't cause any problems and the only things that might be problems are doing point in time recovery.
My Oracle versions are: 9.2.0.6 and 10.2.0.2
OS: Solaris 10
I appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks,
Dave
Hi,
"Following a time change where the clocks go back in time there is a window where INCOMPLETE recovery using TIME BASED recovery is affected."
In addition, try take a research about "How Does Daylight Savings Time Affect The Database?" or take a look at Note:1013279.6 from Oracle Metalink.

Is there any impact on database if we change the time of server?
Hi,
Our DB server time is 45 minutes ahead of our application server. We have planned to reset the time of database server. Is there any impact on database if we change the timing of the server?
Platform: Solaris
DB version: 10.2.0.2.0

SQL> select systimestamp from dual;
SYSTIMESTAMP
23-APR-09 08.27.53.250947 PM +05:30That's an application question, not an Oracle question.
Oracle doesn't care what time it is or when the time changes. Your application(s), however, may care. If you use SYSDATE to populate a row and rely on the date later to be unique or to indicate the actual order rows were inserted, changing the date on the server, particular moving it backwards, might cause problems for your application. Does your application have problems running during daylight savings time changes?

Hi to all,
I have 10.2g database on a Windows Server 2003 in production.
What would be the impact on the database if I change server time i.e. if I roll the clock backwards?
My database server takes time from my DC server and I wont to roll the clock backwards on DC server.
Thanks!871486 wrote:

Thanks! The schedulers will be affected. I mean by the schedulers; Oracle defined schedulers (maintenance window, etc...) and user defined schedulers. -
Change server time will change database time?
If a change my unix hour (because summer hour) the database will change without any commands or i need to do something?
Tks,
Elber.Yes, SYSDATE will pick up the underlying operating system's date and time.
If you are changing the time zone in which the server resides, though, make sure that the operating system time zone and the database time zone are in sync if you are using any TIMESTAMP columns.

SCEP date range reports change over time
Not really sure how to title this, but here is the scenario. I have altered a canned report to run the first Monday of every month and dump a Word file w/links into a folder. The alteration of this report is simply changing the end date to be -30 from today.
So I am getting a 30 day report of all computers that were infected. The report runs and looks to be accurate based on alerting I have setup. The problem comes when I take this report and start to drill down into the data using the links in the report. Let's
say my report shows a virus name with an infection count of 3. I can click on 3 and see a list of PCs that were infected....well not so much. If between the time the PC was infected and the time I look at the report, any of the 3 PCs were cleaned of the infection,
then they will not show up in the drilldown. So if a single PC was cleaned...the count still shows 3, but clicking on 3 only shows 2 computers now. This pretty much goes for any data on the main page.
So essentially the report is pretty useless to go back in time and see detailed info on the incidents since the status of every bit of info in that report has changed over time. I am not a SQL person, but I did have one of SQL team look at the database and
she can't see anywhere that she can pull archived data from. Any idea what direction I can point her in to get the type of reports I am looking for?Yes, I know this is an old post, but I’m trying to clean them up. Did you solve this problem, if so what was the solution?

Change system time in RAC cluster
Hi,
We need to change the system time of two nodes involded in a RAC cluster, both the nodes are almost 15 minutes ahead of real time but are in sync with each other.
Does Oracle database require to bounce to get the latest changed time?
or does the whole cluster services needed to be stopped for 15 minutes after changing the time and then started? just in case not to confused with the transactions happened when the system was 15 minutes ahead.
The metalink note ID 368539.1 explains that PMON process does the service registration when the database was started. The PMON will not take the changed time dynamically?
We have oracle 10.2.0.2 database on HP UX 11.31
Please clear this confusion.
Thanks.Your RAC Cluster would be using either of
a. NTP --- external to Oracle
b. Oracle Cluster Time Synchronization Service -- part of the Oracle Grid Infrastructure
It seems that you are not using NTP -- else the two nodes would have the same time as "the rest of the world".
You should see "Cluster Time Synchronization Service" in your clusterware logs.
Since you plan to reset the time backwards, I suggest that you shutdown and reset the time manually.
Remember that timestamps written to various log files and "last update" time of various files themselves, will duplicate or overlap with existing files.
Note : PMON service registration doesn't come into play here.

How change 'home' time-zone in ical?
Hi
Question ... how to change 'home' time-zone in ical?
I have just relocated countries ... to a different time zone.
I use time-zone support in iCal and add time-zone to various tasks.
But when i add a task and note it as my now current time-zone then ical immediately alters the diary placement to assume that i am in my old country/time-zone.
I have altered the region in Preferences/International but this seems to have no effect, in ical at least.
guidance welcomed
rossIn the very upper, right-hand corner of the iCal window is a time zone display, here you can choose to change your iCal time zone.
If you choose "other" from the time zone display's pop-up menu, you get a dialog just like the Date and Time System Preferences.
Why this option is not in the iCal preferences, I have no idea. To me, that would make a lot more sense!

Need the SQL Query to check SQL time zone and change the time zone
Hi All,
I am using SQL Server 2008 SP2. My Ex SQL Admin said that the data which we query from our database gives the output in London time.
But the SQL server is located in USA and is having US time.
I would like to know how to find what time zone is the SQL application running on and how to change it ?
Is there any query which i can use to determine and change the time zone ?

How can I change Date/Time output?
I was wondering if someone could help with the following
issue:
I have a form to insert data into a database. I also have a
form that displays the data and allows you to update (change or
modify) the data. The problem is my Date/Time field. Instead of
displaying the data as it should in this format:
3/23/2007
It instead displays the data in the following format
2007-03-23 00:00:00.0
So no matter what you would like to modify or change, you
have to change the date back to the correct format or you will
receive an error message. This is obviously a pain.
Is there a way I can change the way this particular data is
displayed from the database?
Within my access database I have formatted the time correctly
and it displays the info correctly, not sure how to do it in
Dreamweaver. I’m using ColdFusion as my programming platform.Nevermind, I just figured it out =)

I have 2 calendars set up for my work schedule, a "night shift" and "day shift" calendar. I've set up repeating events fro Fri/Sat/Sun 3-11pm "night shifts" and Mon/Tues 7am-3pm "day shifts". But lets say for example that I swap shifts and instead of working nights on Saturday like I normally would, I am now working days. I want to change that in my calendar. When I go to change the event, if i change the TIME it asks if i want to change all event or ONLY this event. no problem....just this single event. but when i go to change the event from the "night shift" calendar to the "day shift" calendar, it changes ALL the repeating events, and not just that one single event. can anyone help with this??? am i doing something wrong? is there a way to do this or not with the new iCal program??? i used to do this and never had any problems. Thank you!
You need to follow iPhoto terms since we only know what you tell us
what are you calling folders - in iPhoto folders can not hold photos - albums hold photos and folders hold albums or other folders
The basic default view of photo is by event (iPhoto '08 and later)
Exactly what you you trying to do?

Help me this problem? You need to add that attribute using the config tool for your view configuration. Select the attribute All Day from the context node BTDATE in the available fields to your display field and then save it. It should now be visible in your UI and now you can select or uncheck it to make the time field enable. Check the below image
