Database.exists fails with "illegal flag specified to DB- exists" in 4.7.25

Hello all!
We are using the Java interface to the C based Oracle Berkeley DB version 4.7.25 under Solaris, Linux, and Winwoes XP, all using a 32-bit address space.
Our code is calling Database.get just to check to see if a key exists in the database.
That is working.
When I change our code to call Database.exists (as recommended in the FAQ) I get the error "illegal flag specified to DB->exists":
<blockquote><pre>
java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Invalid argument: illegal flag specified to DB->exists
at com.sleepycat.db.internal.db_javaJNI.Db_exists(Native Method)
at com.sleepycat.db.internal.Db.exists(Db.java:323)
at com.sleepycat.db.Database.exists(Database.java:584)
</pre></blockquote>
In the call to Database.exists I am passing null for the txn parameter, just like the call to Database.get did.
If I construct a Transaction object and pass that in the call to Database.exists, exists works correctly.
Looking at the Berkeley DB source code for Database.exists shows the Java wrapper adds a flag if the txn parameter is null:
<blockquote><pre>
return OperationStatus.fromInt(
db.exists((txn == null) ? null : txn.txn, key,
((txn == null) ? autoCommitFlag : 0)));
</pre></blockquote>
The autoCommitFlag is initialized to DbConstants.DB_AUTO_COMMIT by the Database class if transactions are enabled for the database, which they are in our case.
The method __db_exists in the Berkeley DB C code does not accept the DB_AUTO_COMMIT:
<blockquote><pre>
     if ((ret = __db_fchk(dbp->env, "DB-\>exists", flags,
     DB_READ_COMMITTED | DB_READ_UNCOMMITTED | DB_RMW)) != 0)
          return (ret);
</pre></blockquote>
In the Berkeley DB Reference Guide found here:
[http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/db/ref/upgrade.4.4/autocommit.html]
There is this statement concerning the DB_AUTO_COMMIT flag and changes in 4.4:
<blockquote>
In previous Berkeley DB releases, the DB_AUTO_COMMIT flag was used in the C and C++ Berkeley DB APIs to wrap operations within a transaction without explicitly creating a transaction and passing the DB_TXN handle as part of the operation method call. In the 4.4 release, the DB_AUTO_COMMIT flag no longer needs to be explicitly specified.
</blockquote>
It also says:
<blockquote>
No related application changes are required for this release, as the DB_AUTO_COMMIT flag is ignored where it is no longer needed. However, application writers are encouraged to remove uses of the DB_AUTO_COMMIT flag in places where it is no longer needed.
</blockquote>
Maybe the situation has changed since 4.4, but that text from the reference manual seems to indicate that the Berkeley DB Database.exists Java code should not be passing the DB_AUTO_COMMIT flag and the Berkeley DB C method __db_exists must ignore DB_AUTO_COMMIT if it is passed.
Does this represent a defect in Oracle Berkeley DB, or has the situation changed in 4.7?
Thanks for any help!
Greg

Hi Greg, thanks for the thorough diagnosis! You've definitely found a bug in BDB, we are currently validating a patch and hope to have it available for you soon.

  • BMR-SS backup fails with error "the specified network name is no longer available"

    We are running DPM 2012 SP1 on a Windows Server 2008 R2 system, backing up a Windows Server 2012 system that is a DC.  The agent version is 4.1.3417.0.  Both the DPM server and the DC are physical systems - brand new HP Proliant 360's.
    When creating the replicas for the 2012 server the first time, the backups work fine, and then for a day or so after that.  After a couple of days, the BMR-SS backups fail with the error "the specified network name is no longer available".
    I can watch the backup happening in the Windows Server Backup console on the protected server - the BMR backup goes up to 99% and then fails.  BMR backups on all the other servers are working - we have a mix of Win2008R2 and Win2012.
    Here is what I have tried:
    I can connect to the UNC path on the backup server without a problem during and after the backup is happening.
    Tried reinstalling the DPM agent.
    Tried backing up directly from the protected server to another server's network share, which worked.
    I can copy multiple gigabyte files directly from the protected server to the DPM file share without a problem (the same one that DPM uses for the replica)
    Tried turning off the SCEP real-time protection during the backup.
    Any help would be appreciated - thanks.

    llo Boudewijn
    I followed Boudewijn's suggestion.
    The Windows 2012R2 servers had no recovery partition in disk C. I created one (400MB) following http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2930294/en-us and
     DPM system restore worked. But just once.
    So this is not the solution to the problem......
    Is no one else having issues with DPM bare metal protection of Windows 2012R2 servers?

    Hi All,
    I am trying to install Hyperion 11.1.2.0 on my laptop. Though the requirements document says the supported OS is windows 2003 or 2008, I have read that people are able to get it working on other OS' as well.

    After reading a similar post in OTN which suggested this could be due to OHS not installed correctly, I reinstalled OHS successfully.
    I still get this error. Can anyone help me how to get around this issue.
    thanks,

    I got the same problem with you. If you check in your physical directory, you wouldn't find F:\OracleBI11G\modules\org.apache.ant_1.7.0. Maybe when the installtools installed the EPM System, it detected that apache had been installed by OBIEE. Maybe you'll find F:\OracleBI11G\modules\org.apache.ant_1.7.1. The way I took to make configtools worked was by copying F:\OracleBI11G\modules\org.apache.ant_1.7.1 to F:\OracleBI11G\modules\org.apache.ant_1.7.0 and re run the configtools.
    Now I got the other problem when I tried to deploy foundation service to weblogic. It gave me EPMCFG-10067 : Failed to get admin user name for the domain.
    Try to copy F:\OracleBI11G\modules\org.apache.ant_1.7.1 to F:\OracleBI11G\modules\org.apache.ant_1.7.0. Maybe after that you can help me solving my problem.

  • LiveCycle ES Database Initialization Failing with Bootstrapping error

    I did non-turnkey installation of LCES on windows XP and deployed the adobe-livecycle-jboss.ear on Jboss-4.0.2 app server. Also created databases called adobe and adobe_meta in MySql and grant all permissions to adobe user.
    Then configured datasource as per deployment guide with jndi-name as IDP_DS and put the adobe-ds.xml file in server/all/deploy folder.
    When I try to initialize the database using Configuration Manager, the following error occurs:
    com.adobe.livecycle.bootstrap.BootstrapException: ALC-TTN-103-000: Bootstrapping request failed on server
    ALC-TTN-002-001: JDBC datasource lookup failed for resource reference [java:comp/env/jdbc/
    IdpDs]. The most likely cause is that a datasource having a JNDI
    name of [IDP_DS] does not exist or is misconfigured. Check the application
    server's configuration.
    In server console it shows javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: XAConnectionFactory exception.
    I am getting LiveCycle Administration Login page but could not loging since database entries have not done yet.
    If anybody could help me out of this issue that would be really appreciable.

    The issue with LiveCycle ES Database Initialization has been resolve and I am able to login to the administration console.
    It was an issue with Jboss which was giving some parsing exception. When removed the option ( -Djava.endorsed.dirs=%JBOSS_HOME%/server/all/lib/endorsed ) from the run.bat script, the server started smothly enough to complete the deploy process
    Thanks to all and I appreciate the support I got from the forum.
    Cheers.

  • Create materialized View fails with "table or view does not exist"

    DB: 10.2.0.4
    OS: Win 2003
    Hi,
    Here in my tests, i have 2 databases (A(source) and B(backup)), and i am trying to create an mview in database B to replicate data from one test table from database A, only for test purpose. I'm getting the error "table or view does not exist" when i try to create a mview with REFRESH FAST. Here is my code:
    CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW TESTES.TAB_TESTES_REPLIC_MVIEW_02
    REFRESH FAST
    START WITH TO_DATE('21/02/2012 18:50:00', 'DD/MM/YYYY HH24:MI:SS')
    NEXT SYSDATE + 1/24/60
    WITH PRIMARY KEY
    AS SELECT REGISTRO1,
    REGISTRO2
    FROM TESTES.TAB_TESTES_REPLIC_MVIEW_02@DB_LINK_ORA10;
    The dblink is workig fine(dblink user has select privilege on TESTES.TAB_TESTES_REPLIC_MVIEW_02), and i have created the mview log on database A.
    Where is my mistake.
    Thanks a lot.
    Edited by: Fabricio_Jorge on 21/02/2012 19:06

    I found the solution.
    I had to grant SELECT on the mview log. The name is avaiable in DBA_MVIEW_LOGS

  • Duplicate database command fails with RMAN-06023

    Hello,
    I am trying to test out the duplicate database command in RMAN and am running into some issues.
    I did a backup of my test database, copied the backup files to a second server, and now I'm trying to run the duplicate command and I get RMAN-06023 errors for all of my datafiles.
    I did crosschecks on my backupsets and they showed as available. They are in the same location on the new server, with the same permissions. There are no recent archived logs, as this is a very quiet environment.

    Hi,
    Where is you RMAN catalog? I think you forgot to connect to it.
    To duplicate a database check that folowing applies:
    1-the auxiliary instance is mounted
    2-the listener for the auxiliary db is up
    3-the backup pieces that RMAN is going to restore ARE AVAILABLE on the
    secondary/auxilary server with SAME NAME the have on the primary server (you can use NFS to avoid the copy of the pieces from primary to auxuliary box)
    Remember to be conected to both: target and auxiliary db.
    I have extracted the folowing lines from an RMAN script I used to create an standby database with the DUPLICATE command (the RMAN catalog was in the primary db controlfile, and the command was run on the primary server:
    $ rman target / nocatalog auxiliary sys/pwd@standbycard log=crCARD.log
    RMAN> duplicate target database for standby nofilenamecheck dorecover;
    I hope this helps

  • OBIEE 11.1.1.7 external database authentication fails with hashed passwords.

    Hi .
    I use an external database ( Oracle database 11g  release 11.2.0.1.0) to authenticate user with OBIEE 11.1.1.7.
    I configured  SQL Authentication provider as my provider ,It works OK with :enabled  Plaintext Passwords Enabled option and password  is stored as plain text.
    But It fails when I disable this option and want to authenticate with hashed passwords.It gives Authenticate Denied error.
    In Provider Specific tab there are some parameters which might need changes:
    1-Password Algorithm:??
    2-Password Style:??
    3-SQL Get Users Password:SELECT U_PASSWORD FROM USERS WHERE U_NAME = ?
    How can I find correct values for options 1 and 2 form my external database?
    And Is it need to rewrite query in option 3 ?

  • Import fails with ORA-01435: user does not exist?

    I have a dump of a 8i database done with FULL=Y. I have tried to import this into an XE beta 3 instance with FULL=Y, but I keep getting ORA-01435: user does not exist. Is this expected behavior because of some XE thing or is it me being an idiot? I would have expected the imp program to ignore that the tablespaces are not the same and just stuffed everything into the default tablespace of the current user (SYSTEM) and creating unknown schemas whenever one was encountered.
    Regards Pete

    Peter,
    could you please post the command line of the import and the logfile, so that we can get a bit more of information?
    Thanks,
    ~Dietmar.

  • New database connection failed with oepe

    Hi everybody,
    @http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E27086_02/help/oracle.eclipse.tools.common.doc/html/install.html#install_oepe
    Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse Installation Guide says:
    "You can install OEPE using any of the following ways:
    Download, and then unzip OEPE plugins directly into the Eclipse dropins folder and restart Eclipse."
    This is what I have done,
    then when I create a new database connection, and I press the button "test connection" i got a pop up saying "Ping failed" giving details:

    Did I miss something?

    The documentation is out of date. The unzip to dropins method is no longer supported. The OEPE zip you downloaded is actually an archived repository. You can follow the instruction for installing using Eclipse Update Manager and point to the downloaded zip instead of the online repository.
    I will follow up to get the docs updated.

  • Order Import failing with error "The specified subinventory is invalid to use, the profile option INV: Allow Expense to Asset Transfer is set to No. Change the profile option to Yes or choose a valid subinventory."

    Hi All,
    I am getting this error while importing an internal sales order.
    “The specified subinventory is invalid to use, the profile option INV: Allow Expense to Asset Transfer is set to No. Change the profile option to Yes or choose a valid subinventory.”
    I have tried to set mentioned profile as ‘Yes’. But still getting same error.
    Also, provided subinventory is present and active in given inventory organization.
    Please share if anybody encountered this before and have a solution.

    What else could I have missed?
    Running my client, I am getting the following error in the

    Again, what could be the problem? Thanks for any help.
    Andreas

    you might need to add it as a resource for your bean in your ejb-jar.xml file, as follows
    <enterprise-beans>
    <entity>
    <ejb-name>RaceControllerBean</ejb-name>
    <resource-ref>
    <res-ref-name>jdbc/Cloudscape</res-ref-name>
    <res-type>javax.sql.DataSource</res-type>
    <res-auth>Container</res-auth>
    </resource-ref>
    </entity>
