Database hange for a while

Hi All,
These are my envirnment:
Database: Oracle 8i
Platform: HP Unix -11
Database Size: Production less then 100GB
My database get hange for while during the day time . Total hange time less the 5 to10 minutes. During that time, nobody can login in to it. Even I can not log in to it as sysdba. After few minutes it comes in to regullar mode. I can not see any alert in log file or even does not generate any trace file. I do not know the exact time, but it hange three or four time a day.
I have cheked CPU performance, it had equall load on all the CPU.
If you can provide me query to trace my database and advice, I will be appreciated your help.
Thanks in advance.
Raj

Hi Raj,
I can not see any alert in log file From HPUX? Can you tail the alert log?
Total hange time less the 5 to10 minutes. There is some resource shortage, you need to check the OS layer first:
- Check for RAM swapping:
http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_tuning_cpu_usage_vmstat.htm
Detecting Potential I/O Bottlenecks in AIX is easy. Using IBM's AIX dialect of UNIX, an I/O bound database server is usually evidenced by a high value in the wa (wait) column of vmstat.
Below, we see that 22 percent of the CPU time is being used waiting for database I/O.
root> vmstat
kthr     memory             page              faults        cpu
r  b   avm   fre  re  pi  po  fr   sr  cy  in   sy  cs us sy id wa
0  0 217485   386  0   0   0   4   14   0 202  300 210 14 19 45 22It is important to note that a high wait value does not always signal an I/O bottleneck. The CPU wait could be due to other factors, and this metric simply means that the CPU is waiting for external OS services.
Now that we understand the basics of the vmstat utility, let's explore an easy method for capturing vmstat data, storing it inside an Oracle table, and producing server performance reports.
If I had to guess, it's a RAM shortage, that would explain why nobody can sign on.
It's also a problem when you cannot get onto the database to see why it;s hanging!

  • Oracle 8i database hangs for the same amount during JDBC calls.

    Hi all,
I have a Oracle 8i database on solaris. The database hangs for exactly 61 seconds for a random jdbc call from my Java application, i mean there is no particular pattern or a JDBC call for which the database hangs. If i choose to wait for 61 seconds it returns the results from the database but if i try to access the database with another query(SQL Plus) the first query starts executing immediately. Is that a database configuration problem or some thing else.
And i also get some exceptions occasionally( Maximum Open Cursors exception). Are these two related?
    Any feedback is appreciated.
    Thanks

    I have uninstalled Oracle 8i.
Removed all the services from Windows services by deleting corresponding registry entries and deleted the Oracle folder.
I have reinstalled Oracle 8i, this time i changed the name of global database to oracledb.
I channged the tnsnames.ora file from DevSuite appropriately as:
    # tnsnames.ora Network Configuration File: C:\DevSuiteHome_1\network\admin\tnsnames.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
    EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = mscserver)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = ORACLEDB)
Still it can't login using scott/tiger authentication.
What may be the problem? Please help.

  • JFrame getting hanged for a while

    Hi,
I have a swing application. It has got two text fields for getting the input files. And on the click of a button, an actionEvent has will be triggered which will validate these files.
My question is if these files are huge, I mean if it takes around 5 minutes for validating these files, for that particular period of time, the Frame goes into an hanged state.
Is there any workaround for this.

The icon in the upper right of the screen (assuming you are using the Mail app) that looks like a square with a pen is the new message button. Tap that to create a new mail message.

  • Why does Firefox on my Windows 7 PC hang (become unresponsive) while it waits for most pages to load or run scripts?

Firefox hangs (becomes unresponsive) when accessing many sites including Gmail. Eventually, when hung, Firefox will throw up a window saying "WARNING: A script has become unresponsive" or, in the case of Gmail, the page itself will say "Some Gmail features have failed to load due to an internet connectivity problem."
IE8 and Google Chrome are working normally. I've tried Firefox in safe mode, re-installing and even running Firefox portable from a USB thumb drive. Each time with the same result—Firefox hangs or becomes unresponsive while it waits for most pages to load or run scripts.

Your problem sounds like the one that a co-worker and I started to have about the same time. Check your Symantec client management control log. You might see a line like the following.
Date and Time Severity Level Action Test / Production Description API Class Rule Caller Process ID Caller Process Parameter User
2012-07-30 10:48:09 AM 15 Block Production Unauthorized NT call rejected by protection driver. System Built-in rule 1608 FlashplayerPlu FuncID-B6H, R... None
At first we thought that it was a Javascript problem until we noticed this log. The key words are 'Block' and 'FlashPlayerPlu'. This problem recently started for us, perhaps with a software push 1-2 weeks ago. Internet Explorer does not hang when accessing pages with Flash.
The Flash page does eventually load after a long time. However, since the whole browser hangs for a while, for the most part having the Flash plugin enabled makes Firefox unusable if accessing pages with Flash.
Disabling the Flash plugin solves the hanging problem, but I do not know what is causing the problem, nor do I know when a combination of Windows 7, Flash, and Symantec will work. Your later version of Symantec shows that we might have the problem for a while, but I do not know what customization CSC did with Symantec. My coworker did run a complete virus scan, uncovering nothing. Another co-worker is running Windows XP. She does not have the problem, but I do not know what other versions of software she is running.

  • TOAD hangs, for the new Database

    Hi,
    My database version is:

    CORE     11.2.0.3.0     Production

    NLSRTL Version 11.2.0.3.0 - Production
    My TOAD version is:
    Version 10.1.1.8
We created a new database A and created a user schema.
When I login to the schema in TOAD and leave the session idle (even if I dont run any query) for a while and come back to it, TOAD gets hanged.
I get no error message or anything, it just hangs and I have to do alt+ctrl+del and end task everytime.
This does not happen with another database B.
So I assume this is not a TOAD problem.
Please advice where the problem lies.
    Thanks!!

I have a Pavilion a1657c using Windows XP.  I use a Kensington trackball and lately it has been hanging up on me. I switched to a Logitech mouse and it did the same thing. Now, I have both plugged in and if I switch usb ports one of them will work for a short period of time and then hangs. If I switch usb ports again, one of them will work for a while....I never know which one is going to work..very sporadic and it is driving me nuts. I am semi-literate with computers, but no whiz. Somebody help me of this road to nutsville..?

Hello icnhndlu, This appears to be a USB common issue, since you mention the issue occurs on different USB ports and devices.
This may be a hardware fault, but you might try uninstalling all the USB devices in the Control Panel, Device Manager. Then reboot the system and see if the operating system will detect new hardware and install the drivers for the new hardware.
The drivers are provided by Microsoft within the operating system.
Not sure this will work, but may be worth a try.

What the steps are useful for us while designing the database by Performance point of view.
Like Proper indexing and table assing to specific tbalespace etc

Oracle manuals would do the best for you. There is no step by step rules for tuning the database , had this be true , then Oracle must've write a programme , application or sql script to achive it . I would advise you to go through oracle performance and tuning guide .

My Iphone still hanging for 9 hours while doing security backup for actualization... Can anyone help?? And also cannot find backup file..

Now it's Wednesday (2 days since I originally posted) & my iPhone appears to have finally restored all my apps, but it still says it's restoring from iCloud backup.  If all my apps are restored, what else could it be restoring?  IS it actually restoring anything at this point, or is it still in 'glitch' mode???  I've tried turning it off & back on & it continues to say that it's restoring.

  • VISA Write hangs after running OK for a while

VISA Write function (VISA abc W) in my VI runs OK, with a Return Count of 4, for a while (100's to 1000's of times)  then it hangs.  The Return Count from this function is then 0.  The Error In and Error Out show no errors.  Clicking HIGHLIGHT EXECUTION shows the output wires from the VISA Write as colored grey, while everything else has normal color.
Clicking the VI red ABORT button, or any of the sub VIs red ABORT buttons, fails to abort or reset the VI even after 20 minutes.  Task Manager will stop LabVIEW, but then LabVIEW will not start up again without shutting down and restarting the computer.  Changing to a different Windows XP computer and a different PCI-GPIB, NI-488.2  board, as well as reinstalling LabVIEW 7.0, or using a different LabVIEW 7.0 serial number, has not solved the problem.
    Thank you for your help.

Thanks for your reply.  Attached is a PowerPoint file that shows info on our computer and LabView, and a For Loop
(Slide 3) that runs the VIs addressing one of our instruments (Hart 1590 Super Thermometer).  Slide 4 shows the
block diagram that is pretty much as downloaded from National Instruments.  The block diagrams for each of the
colored sub VIs contains a sub VI having a VISA abc W function as shown in Slide 5.  The only places this VISA
function hangs is in inside the While Loop, inside the yellow Meas. Status. VI or the blue Read Meas. VI.  The
Meas. Status. VI sends "new", and  the Read Meas. VI sends "tem" to the Hart instrument.
Also attaced are the VIs for the Measurement Status and the Read Measurement.  In the course of trying to fix this
problem I've added various time delays of 50, 100 msec, up to 1 sec, thinking that the Hart needed more time to
respond before receiving another command; none of this improved the situation.  I added indicators and arrays to
capture the last several strings that were input to the VISA function, but I saw nothing unusual.  All I've been
able to determine is that the VISA abc W function hangs as described in my posted message.

Is anyone aware of any issues with SQL Developer hanging for several minutes after being idle for several hours? After being idle for several hours (and probably minimized), when we bring up SQL Developer we just get a blank white window for several minutes before it becomes functional. Obviously, this isn't a critical issue, but sure is annoying when you run into it.

This is fairly typical java application behaviour. For whatever reason, they are particularly prone to being swapped out by the operating system and take time to swap back in.
There is an add-in around called "keepresident" which helps this but I thought it had been superceded in later JDK version.

The message had been raised to SAP from almost 15 days at very high. They every time ask the logs , and say that the data in log is nt providing much info for analysing the issue or cause of hang. Also enabled the traces of 10400 for trace level 1 ,10 some more traces also. But still the output is not helping even them to analyse the root cause.
Its my observation that this issue is occuring only on ABAP+JAVA systems(CRM &BIW)not in ECC.We are on oracle database 10.2.0.0.4 with latest patch set as suggested by SAP for the same issue.
