DATABASE IMPORT IN THE DEFAULT TABLESPACE OF USER

Hi,
I have exported database into a dump file ,the exported database was using the system table space.
Now i am trying to import database from the above dump file into the new user which has default table space specified, but its the import is happening in system table space rather then the default tablespace.
On the command prompt command i am running this command to import:
imp user/password@netservicename file=filename fromuser=x1 touser=xyz ignore=y

You have to create the table in the tablespace you want before importing the datas in.
Do you know the ALTER TABLE MOVE command to move a table from one tablespace to another ?

  • Schema not imported to the default tablespace of the user

I exported a schema. Then when I tried to import it in an existing schema, all the objects are successfully imported. But they are not imported in the default tablespace of that particular user. Why? How can I force the import to the default tablespace of that user?

Did you attempt to import the objects into a new schema or into the existing one? If you are attempting to migrate the objects to a new schema you need to use the parameters:
    fromuser=<old_schema> touser=<new_schema>
Or if you are attempting to migrate the objects to a new tablespace pre-create them as described above and import with the ignore=y.

  • Importing objects in default tablespace

    Dear all,
We have our UAT and PRODUCTION environment having the same structure (same tablespaces, same amount of users) ..our application mainly runs with only one user called APPSDT. we have the
same user in our UAT also..
user APPSDT have objects created in all the tablespaces of the PROD environment. When we are
refreshing the schema APPSDT with that of the schema in UAT , IMP imports the objects the
objects in all the tablespace (since the tablespace name is the same in UAT as well in PROD)
I've allocated a big file tablespace as the default tablespace to the user APPSDT in UAT.
When am doing the import , all the objects have to be imported into the default tablespace
and not to user anyother tablespace ?
    Any idea ?
    Kai

    KaiS,
If you have allocated quota only one tablespace which is default tablespace of the schema user, then all the objects pertaining to that user will be created in default tablespace. And if you have allocated quota on other tablespace then objects will spread over the other tablespaces (same tablespace as in your production server).

  • Should Default Tablespace for User DIP be "SYSTEM" or "USERS"?

Oracle Enterprise Manager is giving me a warning about some non-system users who have a default tablespace of SYSTEM. One of the users is DIP. Is it OK for me to change the default tablespace for DIP to USERS, or should it remain SYSTEM?
    Thank you,
    Bill

To the best of my knowledge user DIP was created automatically by Oracle software when I upgraded my database from 8i to 10gR2. In my mind that means it is needed for managing some system function in the database. That is why I hesitate to change the default tablespace from SYSTEM to USERS.
If user DIP is tied to use of Oracle Directory Integration and Provisioning then I am not knowingly using the DIP account. I do not know what Directory Integration and Provisioning is and read about it only when researching this tablespace question. That being said, I expect that Oracle software does a lot of things internally that I am not aware of.
I was hoping someone familiar with user DIP could tell me that changing the default tablespace to USERS for this Oracle supplied account would do no harm.
    Thank you,
    Bill

  • Can we change the default tablespace of a table?

    Hi All,
Can we change the default tablespace for any TABLE while it contains any data? If yes, how it works? If no, any workaround?
    Thanx,
    Zaaf

instead of moving your table after the import you could:
1)execute an import with the parameter ROWS = N
2)move the empty tables to the correct tablespace
    3)execute an impot with ROWS = Y and IGNORE = Y
This way you will only have to move empty tables which will probably be much faster also there is no need to rebuild the indexes.

    Eric,
To fix the problem, log into SQLPLUS as MANAGER
increase the table size by giving
    ALTER TABLESPACE <name> ADDFILE '<fullpathfilename>' SIZE <value e.g 50M>

  • Want to change the default save location- users have networked home dirs

I am doing some work for a school which is still using iMovie HD because it allows them to save their movie projects wherever they want. The issue is that iMovie 08 and 09 do not allow you to change the location in which they save their movies. Currently all users/students have network home folders, so their home directory, documents, etc all pull across the network. All students are limited to 1GB of space, and the system is an older G4 Server- 2GHz with 1GB of RAM and 2x 500GB hard drives. Since the students can make some large projects transferring that data back and forth can kill the server. Currently they are staying with iMovie HD so they can save it to the local hard drive, and when the student comes back in for class they sit at the same machine- thus giving them access to their stored movie files.
This summer they plan to upgrade both Xserves, but again internal storage in the Xserve is a joke and in my opinion not planned out properly. Which might require them to use one of the Apple Promise RAID units- major financial burden on a school.
I wanted to see if there was a way to change the default save location for iMovie 08 or 09 to the local storage rather then the "Home" folder for each user.
    Thanks so much!

    wrong info.
iM08/09 has a different file concept than iMHD6.
Both versions allow to store Events (=huge files) 'anywhere' to usb or firewire connected, hfs(+) formatted harddrives. the Project files (=small files) can be de-located from 'internal' drive with vers09, for 08 you have to use a socalled symLink to de-locate Project files.

  • How do I change the default timezone for user calendars?

The default timezone for new calendars is "America/New_York." How

    Colin,
You may substitute any text you like for the "Placeholder Text", as it is called, in Pages. Click on the existing placeholder text and type something more to your liking. Do this in as many places as your particular template of interest demands. Then, Format > Advanced > Define as Placeholder Text. Lastly, File > Save as Template.
Now that you have defined a Custom Template to your liking, you can go to Pages Preferences and under the General tab's first section, define the new custom template as your default for each new document.

  • Importing from the "default package"

    Hi,
I've got a class ("A") which contains an inner class ("Inner") in it, and I have another class ("B") which needs to use the inner class. To make the code more readable I would like to import the inner class directly into class "B", so that I could write something like: "Inner in = ...", instead of "A.Inner in = ...".
The problem is that all of these classes are placed in the "default package", and Java won't let me import without specifying a package in the import path.
Is there any way to make a reference to the "default package" and use it inside an import?
    Thanks...

I think that you should avoid using the default package whenever possible, and in this situation you have to avoid using it. I'm curious, what argument do you have against using packages? Also, why not pull that inner class out if it's to be used by other classes? I think that your code will be more readable and maintainable this way. But then again, I'm kind of new myself, so I'd be interested to hear what others have to say.

  • How to start a database by copying the files(tablespace, redo, ctl files)

    Hi,
I have two databases called Q1 and Q2. I am planning to copy from a cold backup files from Q1 to Q2 database.
could anybody will provide the steps involved in how to copy from one database to another and how to rename the target database after copying and renaming the files in the target database to up and run?
    Please help.
    Thank you.

For Oracle version from 9i the steps are :
Perform Cold Backup of the Production database
    1. Note down the datafile, controlfile and redologfile locations on proddb
    2. Shutdown the production database Ensure clean shutdown.
    3. Copy the database files (datafiles, logfiles, controlfiles and parameter file) into the clone destination.
    4. Modify the parameter CONTROL_FILES in the pfile for clonedb to reflect
the new path of the control files.
    1. Mount the database and rename the datafiles and redolog files.
    export ORACLE_SID=clonedb
    DB02> sqlplus / as sysdba
    DB02> startup mount
DB02> alter database rename file '/u01/<path_to_proddb_files>/<filename>' to '/u01/<path_to_clonedb_files>/<filename>'
    2. Rename the database with the dbnewid (nid) utility
    3. Edit the pfile and update the new database name
Modify parameter DB_NAME to reflect the new database name.
also ensure you make necessary changes to the environment for ORACLE_SID, ORACLE_HOME
    as needed.
    4. Open the clone database.

  • Export - import to a different tablespace ??

I have exported a schema from 8174 from production as the user itself.
    exp user/user ........
I am trying to import it into development.
Only one table i am importing it from the dump. But this table structure is already existing in a tablespace different from production.....
say if t1 is in tbs1 -- Prrod.
    t1 is in tbs2 -- dev.
so while import the data is going into this tbs2... and not tbs1 of dev.
The default tablespace of user is tbs1.
So how can i import it intot tbs2?
    Please help me ...

Is t1 in development (the target database) already in the appropriate tablespace?
If not, correct that by doing:
    alter table t1 move tablespace tablespace_where_t1_should_live;
Then do the import with "ignore=y".
That ought to take care of it.

What prevents you from doing this yourself and seeing for yourself what the behavior is?   (How do you think the 'gurus' got to be 'gurus'?)
If, after conducting your own test, you see behavior you don't understand, I'm sure someone here will help explain the behavior you observe vs the behavior you expected.
