Database problem want to solve using oracle.

I am new to database managemnt so kindly coordinate.
I have a database in excel (employees name, address)and its relational . now i have another database(employees ID ,number) which is relational in sense to first database.
I want to link those two database to create a single file using DBMS
. Can you tell me the detailed step wise procedure for doing this including from installation of oracle and which features in oracle can i use to do this.
Thanking you .

you'll probably find more useful answers to your questions in the Database - general forum here:
General Database Discussions
there are also quite a number of helpful sites if you Google "installing oracle" or the like.
I have to raise these questions though, and please don't think that I'm being condesending or anything:
do you realise that oracle is generally designed for very large (compared to excel) databases?
do you realise that there are other database products out there that are slightly easier to use and on a smaller (and cheaper) scale such as Microsoft Access (it has it's own Graphical Interface and development environment) and MySQL (it's free and quite good if you need a more robust database server).
I'd have to say that MS Access sounds far more suited to your needs, and you probably already have it on your computer.
if you still have your heart set on converting an Excel spreadsheet into an oracle database then by all means go for it!

  • Problems with Drive Mapping using Oracle Drive

It seems as though we are having some trouble with oracle drive. The install was a piece of cake, as was the configuration. The problem arises when at times we connect with the proper credentials, Oracle Drive logs the user in, but then the appropriate drive does not map. Nothing shows up under "My computer". The window will launch for the user to use Oracle Drive, but they get error messages including, "Cannot support long file names." (AKA, anything longer than 8 characters).
Has anyone else come across these issues? Any ideas how to resolve. The issues we get with the long file names seem to only be when the drive doesn't properly map.
    Any thoughts would be helpful.
Also, I have heard rumors of a Production version of Oracle Drive. Anyone have some news on that?

We are very pleased to announce the Production Release 10.1.2.0 of Oracle Drive.
You can download the software from here:

    Note:
    - This version is production for English only. Other languages are Beta.
    - Oracle Drive 10.1.2.1 for ALL languages is expected soon.

    Hi,
there are 2 ways to set your environment:
    1) Make amendments to your profiles in .profile
As with every Oracle installation you need settings for different Oracle instances, so you can have your options:
    echo
    echo "Available Oracle environments are:"
    echo " 1 - Head Office                 (Oracle10g)"
    echo " 2 - Oracle Application Ser. (Oracle10gAS)"
    echo

    then
        C=1
        echo "Default set to ${C}."
    fi
    case $C in

  • Help Using Oracle (In General)

I am new to Linux and Oracle, so please bear with me.
I finally was able to install Oracle 11g on my CentOS computer. (This took a long time...I'm a slow learner).
Now I'm trying to create an database or just trying to USE Oracle. Where and how do I create an new database?
I searched around this forum and saw that you should use the command "dbca" to create a database.
If this is true, I have several questions:
    1. Where do I type this command (on root or on oracle user)?
    2. Do I need to be in a specific directory?
    3. How exactly do I use the command "dbca"?
I appreciate any help I can get. But please I need step by step solutions; providing me with a link to an Oracle documentation guide hasn't helped me.
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14231/create.htm#g1034097 <--This guide is very confusing and not clear in it's directions.
Or maybe, does anyone know of an Oracle Tutorial for Dummies? This would help too. ;-)
    Thanks again.
Note: Remember, I am new to Linux AND Oracle. Thank you!

Reading installation documentation and following it always makes things work better.
    1. The docs are at http://tahiti.oracle.com
    2. Use a supported operating system (free) such as Oracle Enterprise Linux (download at http://otn.oracle.com)
    3. If you find you are confused by some aspects of the docs there are many of us that have posted examples on the web.
Mine are at http://morganslibrary.org/library.html under "Linux" with different demos for the most recent 3 versions.

There is IMP utility which provides me data as graphical way. But i need extract data in such a way so that i could able to use in my application.

    Hi,
    EdStevens
Actually I was using SQL Developer. Sorry for the wrong define question. Now the real problem is:
I want to read or extract data in a txt file from Oracle Dump (.dmp) file without using Oracle sqlPlus or Oracle Database.
No need to say that i am able to extract dump data using sqlPlus. But for that, there is a little burden to install oracle database
    or sql Developer.
I also listen about Oracle Loader a little bit. Is it a tool for providing extraction of data from Oracle dump file.
    Thanks for your previous reply,
And now waiting for your suggestion.

  • Problem about using Oracle Form 6i to connect Oracle Database 10g express.

Sorry to interrupt all of you.
I have encountered a problem about using Oracle Form 6i to connect Oracle Database 10g express.
    As I would like to
I use Oracle Net8 Easy Config to create a connection.
    According to "tnsnames.ora", the paramater of connection is as follows;
    XE =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 127.0.0.1)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = XE))
Unfortunately, when I use Oracle Net8 Easy Config to test the connection, an error message is prompted as follows:
    Connecting....
    The test did not succeed.
ORA-03106: fatal two-task communication protocol error
There may be an error in the fields entered
or the server may not be ready for a connection.
You can check the server and retry, or continue.
After I google it, I still have no idea how to solve the problem. I would like to ask, could anyone mind providing some hints or solution to address the issues.
Thanks for your assistance in advance.

I don't believe the Net8 Easy Config (NEC) will create a compatible entry in the tnsnames.ora. I have Forms 6i running successfully against a 10g Express database, but I did not use the NEC - I created the entry myself. Here is the entry I use:
    XE=
      (DESCRIPTION=
        (ADDRESS=
          (PROTOCOL=TCP)
          (HOST=<<servername or IP address>>)
          (PORT=1521)
        (CONNECT_DATA=
          (SERVER=dedicated)
          (SERVICE_NAME=XE)
      )Hope this helps,

  • Problem in connecting to database using oracle jdbc thin driver

    hi
i am trying to connect to a database using oracle thin driver.
    i am getting following error:
java.sql.sqlexception:Io exception: the network adapter could not establish the connection
Io exception: the network adapter could not establish the connection
the connection string has the property of using a dedicated server
for this reason i have put USE_DEDICATED_SERVER=ON in sqlnet.ora file...
we did not face this problem while connecting to other databases which do not have the property of dedicated server in their connection string in tnsnames.ora file.
please suggest a solution for this.
    thanks and regards,
    asif

If you are using the thin driver, sqlnet.ora does not come into play. None of Oracle networking does. That is one of the great things about using the thin driver, no need to have the client installed.
That error is due to incorrect connection info you are supplying or the machine you are connection from can't ping the machine it is trying to connect to.

  • Problem finding data in an Oracle Database using CMP beans

I am having a problem retrieving data from an Oracle database that has a date as
part of the key. This data was loaded into my database via a batch process writing
in java using java.sql.Date to store the date information. When calling the findByPrimaryKey
method of a CMP Entity Bean I continued to get the FinderException. I know this
data is in my database because I can view the data via SQLPlus and Microsoft Access.
Has anyone ever experience problems with CMP beans accessing data from an Oracle
database that had a date as part if the key or with accessing data in the database
that insert via another method outside of your CMP bean. I desperately need some
    answers.

    Hi Dave,
You should probably post this type of question in the CMP or JDBC section
for best results. Chances are that the date is suffering from a rounding
problem (it could be a date/time in the database with a different time zone)
or is not the date that you think it is (wrong century or millenium). I've
seen both. You need to write a quick piece of code that loads in those
values as both Java timestamps and dates and makes sure that they are what
    you think they are.

  • Problem with database control returning multiple rows as Array  using Oracle

Has anybody using Oracle gotten a Database control that
returns multiple rows to work returning an array?
The only way I can seem to return multiple rows is by returning
a RowSet. Returning an array gives me a NullPointerException
(when called within a pageFlow). When calling a database control
that returns an array from a web service I get a
"java.sql.SQLException: ResultSet has no more data." error.
The samples using the pointbase database seem to work, but when I
converted the CustomerDBClient web service to use Oracle, it starts
failing on calling the database control that returns an array
with: "java.sql.SQLException: ResultSet has no more data."
Has anybody gotten this to work using Oracle?
I'm also having some problem returning an Iterator. It seems
to work when called from a web service, but returns nothing
if called from a page flow.
    I'm using Oracle 8.1.7 and WebLogic 8.1.

Do you need a particular service pack installed to return an array of custom object?
I am getting a ResultSet contained no data error when trying.

There shouldn't be a problem with returning an array of objects out

wrap the array in an Iterator implementation.

It is really frustrating because I can't use much of the built-in control

that WLW provides. All I did was create a data pool for Oracle and a
    datasource.
I modified the sample app in C:\bea81\weblogic81\samples\workshop\SamplesApp\WebApp\callJavaControl
to point to that datasource and I get the error that Eric reports above.

  • Cannot connect to database using Oracle Forms 10g

    hi,
I had installed Oracle 10g database and Oracle Forms 10g on Windows Vista Home Basic. However, I was unable to connect to
the database in Oracle Form using scott/scott for database "orcl", with the following error message:
ORA-00604: error occured at recursive SQL level 1
    ORA-01009: missing mandatory parameter
However, I could access to the database using this set of username and password. Am I missing something? Thanks.

    Hi,
After a successful installation of forms 10g in vista, I'm about to run OPatch Universal Installer for the patch 7047034
in order to fix the form bugs. However, I cannot run the command "opatch apply C:\oracle_form\Patch26_Rel_10105\7047034"
with the error "The Oracle Home c:\devsuitehome_1 is not registered with the Central Inventory.". Then I try to create a
oraInst.loc file, but not much change still. The situation is that oracle 10g is installed before oracle developer suite
10g, and when I try to set oracle_home to oracle 10g's path ("C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1") and run "opatch lsinventory",
it returns the correct result; when oracle developer suite 10g's path ("c:\devsuitehome_1") is set as the oracle_home,
the same command would return a different result as "LsInventory: OPatch Exception while accessing O2O".
I've verified through Oracle Universal Installer that the Central Inventory has included both as oracle_home (oracle 10g
and oracle developer suite 10g). I'm very confused now, though it seems that the problem could be solved by registering the
Central Inventory with oraacle developer suite 10g's path. Thanks.
