Database Transaction - Rollback

Hi,
I am trying to insert values in 3 tables - A, B and C.
if by some reason there is an exception during Table C operations. I want to roll back all the transactions.
How can I do this in BPM.
Regards,
Lovin.V

Hi,
I'm using DynamicSQL package to execute queries. I'm also having a requirement to insert into multiple tables. I've tested and found that, auto rollback happens when my second or further queries does not complete. I think the commit happens at activity level.
Still you may check and observe.

  • Database session rollback.

    How can I issue a database session rollback from within an ADF jpanel?
    Here are a few things I tryied:
    I used:
    panelBinding.getOperationBinding("Rollback");
         -->This does not seem to rollback anything.
    panelBinding.releaseDataControl();
    panelBinding.getApplication().getApplicationModule().getTransaction().rollback();
         -->This two look like they do rollback and release all data everywhere, not just in the panel it was issued, so all my pages will have to bind again (re-query) which makes the app very slow.
    This is supposed to be a read only app.
    I guess what I am looking for is to possible issue a session rollback when exiting an ADF jpanel, without forcing re-binding, equerry of all my ADF views and ADF view links.
    Or probably set a JOB parameter which would make the entire app read only and would never attempt update if any rows displayed were changed my mistake.
    Your input is most appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Thanks for you response.
    This is a read only app, all the object views are based on read only SQL, but because I have defined in the object view the field displayed to be always updatable so it can be highlighted, and copied into clipboard, so it would be easy to copy and paste stuff into email or other documents, sometime this copy and paste process causes a field to be modified accidentally, so I need to include a rollback statement every time an ADF jpanel is closed, just to clean up and rollback these type of situations.
    You wrote:
    “A rollback is on the transaction, which is held by the Application Module. If you only want to rollback partial changes then you need to first set a savepoint in ADF BC and recover to this savepoint”
    I understand that and I do want to rollback every thing that the application module might have accidentally modified, but once I issue the rollback using the following:
    panelBinding.getApplication().getApplicationModule().getTransaction().rollback();
    This causes the app to rebind, meaning all my ADF object views and pages will have to bind again (re-query) which makes the app very slow to navigate. Is there any way to avoid this? Meaning rollback but do not re-bind, requery or refresh the rows already displayed?
    Thanks.

  • Database transaction management in Web services

    Hi,
    I am using Oracle8i and firing some database queries from my web services. I want to do the transaction management for the same i.e. When one of the queries fail, i want to rollback. But when i write my own transaction management, it gives me an error :
    java.sql.SQLException: Cannot call Connection.commit in distributed transaction.Transaction Manager will commit the resource manager when the distributed transaction is committed.
    Can anyone please help me out as to how to perform the database transaction management in web services.
    Thanking in advance.
    Prashant

    Unfortunately to manage transactions over web services there is no viable solution available in market. All implementations come with restrictions e.g. Metro works with only EJBs on Glassfish, JBossTS works on JBoss but not with JAX-WS, Atomikos supports only Axis as of now.
    1. See explanation above.
    2. Yes, it can be but conditions mentioned above are applied :-)

    4. Unfortunately as of now I do not see an easy way to this problem.

  • Transaction rollback or commit

    Hello to everybody...I'd need a solution for a probem that I 'm not able to resolve.I have a session bean on the server ( WeblogicServer 8.1 Sp3 ) and a Java Swing client.I need to break and rollback a long process on the server by client swing button pression.I have thought to create a user transaction (under a client thread process) on the client and I try to propagate it to the container ( Container Managed Transaction).Now I have to break the long time server operation at certain moment by make a rollback on the client trasaction,after the button pression.The problem is that the rollback DOES NOT ARRIVE to the server and the sever process continue to operate.How this is possible?I think that I make basic mistake,but which?Can Anyone help me please?
    thanks for help and sorry for bad english.

    whaqt I need to do is to break and rollback the transaction ( REQUIRED on the container ) by the client when I want....Whit this prototipe now I try to pass the transaction rollback operation from the client to the server,bt now the message on the server is the following:

  • Reg MDB transaction rollback

    i have an MDB deployed on weblogic 8.1 sp6 server. My confusion here is how the MDB handles transaction rollbacks. E.g suppose if the MDB is designed to do the below action.
    1) read an xml message from a jms queue
    2) insert some database records
    3) generate some xml message, post it to some other jms queue
    suppose if step 1 and 2 is completed, and its on step 3, at this point weblogic server shutdowns suddenly, once i restart the server, it reads the xml message again from the jms queue, but this time it errors out, because it finds the data already entered in step 2.
    My question is when the weblogic server shut down while the mdb was at step 3, why didnt it removed all the db entries it made in step 2. This behaviour apears to me as partial rollback. I have given the mdb descriptor below.

    General information on message-driven beans can be found here: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E12840_01/wls/docs103/ejb/message_beans.html
    To transaction configuration is discussed here: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E12840_01/wls/docs103/ejb/message_beans.html#wp1162058
    Looks like you have to set the transaction-type to Container and the trans-attribute to required. Also see the note:
    - However, if you make this configuration error, the MDB will not run transactionally—if a failure occurs mid-transaction, updates that occurred prior to the failure will not be rolled back.

  • Database Transaction in xMII ?

    Is it possible to ensure a Database Transaction in xMII ?
    To clarify further, let me take an example :
    Suppose I have 2 tables : Tab1 and Tab 2 and I want to insert data simultaneously in both tables. The PK of Tab1 is a FK to Tab2. Is it possible to ensure that an insert into Tab1 will fail/rollback if there is an error in inserting dependent data in Tab2 without me doing an explicit rollback ?

    Very few applications are really database independent.  In fact, the ActivePortal and QualityPortal infrastructure in xMII is not.  It uses database-specific templates to achieve certain specific functionality.
    Quite often, database "independence" means a compromise in functionality, performance, or unnecessary coding to work around the incompatibilities.
    Instead, what you might consider is providing "template sets" for each of the databases you plan to support.  You can simply use an xMII BLS global variable to define the current database type, and use incoming links to the QueryTemplate property to dynamically choose the correct template(s).
    Also, if you wanted to use the database-agnostic code generated if you create a class in the NW Java IDE, you could create custom action(s) to insulate the user from the database specifics.  In version 12.0, you could even share JDBC connection pools between your custom action(s) and xMII (and other WebAS applications).

  • Deadlock - can you make both transactions rollback?

    My understanding of Oracle (11.2.0.3) is that if the engine detects a deadlock, it picks one transaction to rollback and one to succeed.
    Is it possible to configure a system or session setting that would instruct the engine to roll back both transactions?
    Long story short...I'm being asked this question because developers' code isn't perfect

    Hi Raindog,
    > My understanding of Oracle (11.2.0.3) is that if the engine detects a deadlock, it picks one transaction to rollback and one to succeed.
    It is not the engine - it is the database session itself. The documentation states, that the session is picked randomly, but this is not true in fully manner. The session, that is waiting the longest time will do the statement level rollback and raise an ORA-00060. Why? The timeout for enqueues (in that context) is 3 seconds and so the sessions that are waiting for that enqueue will wake up every 3 seconds and check the lock states. However as all of the other guys already mentioned "a statement rollback is performed" and not a "full transaction rollback". So it is up to your application to react on the ORA-00060 and do something useful (which is not that easy).
    > Is it possible to configure a system or session setting that would instruct the engine to roll back both transactions?
    No nothing "by Oracle default", but ideally your application reacts on the ORA-00060, identifies the other session and kills both for example (which performs an implicit rollback).

  • Transaction rollback failure for a function

    My aim is to have two sql 'inserts' in one function. The function is covered by the 'Required' attribute in the xml file. The data source is used from the 'ejb-location'. If one insert fails , the container rolls back all the other database inserts in the function. But the code working in the J2EE implementation is not working in the OC4J one. Do I have to go for a 'resource ref' in the xml file, is it because of this the transaction fails? Because in all the examples everyone accesses the data sources using the jdbc/XXXXX which is there in the data sources.xml directly.
    the code is shown below.
    <data-source
    class="com.evermind.sql.DriverManagerDataSource"
    name="OracleDS"
    location="jdbc/OracleCoreDS"
    xa-location="jdbc/xa/OracleXADS"
    ejb-location="jdbc/OracleDS"
    connection-driver="oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"
    username="scott"
    password="tiger"
    url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@192.168.0.5:1521:dcom"
    inactivity-timeout="30"
    />
    The code in the bean (Session)
    InitialContext ic = new InitialContext();
    DataSource ds = (DataSource)ic.lookup("jdbc/OracleCoreDS");
    Connection con = ds.getConnection();
    I have two updates in one function (setDBItems()). I have put a 'Required' attribute for it in the ejb-jar.xml
    <container-transaction>
    <description>no description</description>
    <method>
    <ejb-name>MyCart</ejb-name>
    <method-name>*</method-name>
    </method>
    <trans-attribute>NotSupported</trans-attribute>
    </container-transaction>
    <container-transaction>
    <method>
    <ejb-name>MyCart</ejb-name>
    <method-name>setDBItems</method-name>
    <method-params>
    <method-param>java.lang.String</method-param>
    <method-param>java.lang.String</method-param>
    <method-param>java.lang.String</method-param>
    <method-param>java.lang.String</method-param>
    </method-params>
    </method>
    <trans-attribute>Required</trans-attribute>
    </container-transaction>
    The problem here is that the first update occurs but when the second fails the first does not rollback.
    As per my understanding any problem in one of the database transactions in the function rolls back al the others
    in the same function.
    Any clue on this? If you have some example code on this, could you please send it to me?
    Thanks in advance

    If you want to use the "ejb-location" data source, you should refer the "jdbc/OracleDS" which is defined in your data-sources.xml instead of "jdbc/OracleCoreDS" that is "location" datasource.
    Besides, maybe you could use a "resource-ref" to lookup the data source in your code instead of using its JNDI location. The JNDI location is defined by deployer at runtime, but the resource-ref could be defined by developer in source code and J2EE standard deployment descriptor during development procedure. It's not hard coded.
    Good Luck!

  • Database transaction throught pages

    Hello !
    I need to write web application that will use database transaction within different pages. Ie. the user changes the data in several pages, and after that clicks commit or rollback buttons.
    Is there any standart solution for my problem ?
    Is it good idea to store the database connection as the session attribute ? Can I get the connection from pool, or rather create my own connection ?
    Regards,
    Kamil

    Perhaps you can keep track of all the database edits/changes using objects stored in your session and then perform the update after the last page.
    or maybe you can use a temporary session table in your database and update that table as the user navigates bewteen your JSP pages, then when they get to your last page with the submit and rollback buttons if they choose submit you can update your main table with the data from the session table. If they choose rollback then you just clear or drop the temp table.
    Any any event transactions are handled in java by turning off autocommit and then calling commit on your connection object when you want to save the changes. And two, its a good idea to use connection pooling if you are going to opening and closing lots of connections. You can store your connection pool in the application scope or use JNDI. That will allow you to easily retrieve a connection from all your servlets or JSPs.

  • Database transaction management with MDB

    Hi all,
    I'm working on an Online Order Processing system. One of the functionalities that we've developed is mass order upload, that consists of one CSV file with a lot of orders inside.
    To have concurrent processing on the processing of an order upload file (as the orders present in file are independent of each), we've implemented a Message Driven Bean that receives an order to process in a request queue, processes the order and answers with the processed order in a response queue. The flow is like:
    1- Struts action is invoked to handle order upload.
    2- A method on a session bean is called to process the file.
    3- The session bean parses the file, separates all the order lines by origin customer (one order for each customer in the file) and sends messages to the request queue.
    4- For each order, an instance of the MDB will receive the message, process the order and send the processed order via response queue.
    5- After the Session Bean sends all the requests with the orders to process, he will wait for all the responses in the response queue until all the orders are processed and provide a valid answer, according to the whole process result, to the online user.
    My doubt is how can I manage efficiently transactions (mainly database transactions) so if inside a bunch of 200 orders processed concurrently one fails, I am able to rollback all the database transactions used by the MDB to process all the orders?
    As the failure of an order can be related to some error in the file, I want to rollback everything, give a message to the user to fix the file and allow him to upload the whole file (fixed) again.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Campos

    Hi,
    1) As Of Version 4.6 C BAPIs has autocommit.ie Once you call a BAPI from anywhere before it returns it commits.So, we no need to worry about that.
    But some BAPI's doesn't in that case only we need to make COMMIT call.
    2)Transaction doesn't depend on Client object.
    3)No.

  • High 'transaction rollback' (statistic# = 172) investigation

    Hi,
    I'm trying to investigate what could cause high transaction rollback .
    First think was ora-0001 unique constraint violation but I can't see any err=1:
    grep err=1 ora_1544382.trc
    in trace file .
    Do You have any idea what else can cause hight transaction rollback problem in JDBC connections (maybe somekind of timeouts) ?
    There is no clue in 10046 trace with lvl 12 maybe other trace ?
    Connections are made throught connection pool from Websphere Application Server dont know if thats relevant.
    Maybe some JDBC properties interfere, can't see thing in trace files.
    Database is 9.2.0.8

    What did you do to record the appearance of the "transaction rollbacks". Was this taking a snapshot of the session's statistics as the trace file was generated ?
    Essentially any transaction that rolls back and clears the undo segment header will report as a "transaction rollback" - including some internal transactions.
    Example 1) Inserting a row into a "child" table when the "parent" doesn't exist will error with ORA-02291 (parent not found). If this was the first DML of a transaction the resulting rollback will show as a "transaction rollback".
    Example 2) An index leaf block split picks an unsuitable block off the freelist and starts an internal transaction; when Oracle realises it was an unsuitable block the transaction rolls back.
    One quick cross-check for Dom Brooks' idea: if this is the front end code deliberately starting a transaction and rolling it back, then "user rollbacks" will be similar to "transaction rollbacks". If it's not user driven then you may have more transaction rollbacks than user rollbacks. Unfortunately, if the front-end issues a rollback after every query (i.e. without starting a transaction) then these rollbacks will show as user rollbacks but not transaction rollbacks and confuse the issue.
    Having checked your trace for error 00001, you might as well check just for "ERR".

    Hello All.
    I am sorry,i don't know whether this location is the correct location to post my question or not
    I have developed one application using complete vb only. That is completly desktop appliation and not suitable for centralized database. Is there any facility to keep my front end as same (vb application) and for the database transaction can i use jdbc? Is there any possibility to do that like View is vb based application and the database connectivity is only jdbc
    If my thought is wrongplease execuse me.

    Hi,

    When I encounter an RuntimeException I do a transaction rollback manually.
    my try/catch is like the following:
    try {
    } catch (JDOFatalException e) {
         throw new MyException();
    } catch (RuntimeException e) {
         trans.rollback();
         throw new MyException();
    I am using JBoss3.0.3 with kodo.rar, using JDO's transaction interface.
    Should i be doing a trans.rollback manually() when I get a
    JDOException thrown i.e. should I have a separate catch for
    JDOExceptions? A lot of examples I see look like the above code.

    Can you give a little more information about the context of the rollback?
    Are you invoking trans.rollback() yourself, or is it happening
    automatically
    because of a SQL error? It looks like you're using managed transactions?
    Are you using them through the local JDO transaction interface?
    Through CMT?
    Thanks for the report, in any case...

  • How make a transaction rollback?

    Hello to everybody...
              hoew can I call a server transaction rollback ( Session Bean ,CMT ) by the client?

    Hi ,
    Call transaction SICF and Navigate to "webgui" service; then right-click and select option "Activate".transaction will work definitely.
    This should enable the WebGui functionality in your WAS.
