Databse connection when an application module is checked out

Hi,
I have an application module pool and database connection pool,
Documentations suggest that, when an application module is released in stateless mode irrespective of the jbo.doconnectionpooling property the connection aquired by the app module will be released.But this is not happening.What could be the reason.Is this a BUG in BC4J!!!!!!!!.
Also whenever i check out an app module, 2 database connections are getting opened instead of one. What is the strange problem!!!!!!!.
Can anybody guide me.
Thanks,
Dutt..

BD - I have a hunch that it has more to do with cvs in a multi-user environment ... but cannot test that out right now since the multi-user component of this problem happens to be out of the office until Monday ;-) I'm thinking it's possible that, since we have slightly different paths to the residents in our workspace, we're fighting over configurations upon committing and updating.
I'll be sure to post steps in recreating this problem very early next week.

    hi
    i was wondering if there is someway to retrieve the Connection object from the application module. something like:
    java.sql.Connection conn = appMod.getConn();
    i'm using JDeveloper 9.0.3.4

  • When the application module starts the trans?

    Hi,
    For ADF application module, when does it start a trans?Is it the case the AM method(even read only method) exposed to view layer, then the trans starts automatically when the page is loaded? Or when getDBTransaction() is called? or even latter when actual update or some specific method is called from the trans? Just wondering whether a commit/rollback is expected when even an exposed method is called by view layer even it is readonly.

    Thx, Tim.
    We are use optimistic in the AMs. We have some AMs just do data query. But there is VPD on one of the table, query on the table will trigger the VPD table updates from database, and if db side detects the parent query sql has transaction associated, the vpd related update will not be committed and expects the parent trans will be commit/rollback But if the AM is cached, and no explicit commit/rolback was issued. Will the underlying VPD updates stay there not commit/rollback

  • JBO-30003 The application pool to check out -- MySQL

    Maybe not the right forum (JHeadstart would be better) but maybe some opinions on this forum:
    I'm deploying an application (JHeadstart) with OC4J.
    The connectstring to connect to an Oracle database is:
    jdbc:oracle:thin:scott/tiger@localhost:orcl
    This works fine !
    As I'm using MySQL I though it would be something like this:
    jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/opa?ultraDevHack=true&?user=root&?password=ROOT (--> also tried root)
    But this results in JBO-30003
    Maybe is this specific for JHeadstart, but no try is no answer at all !

    Thanks, I'm getting closer (I assume)....
    I put the MySQL Driver .jar in oc4j\j2ee\home\lib directory. But now I'm getting an error about creating the connection.
    It's so weird. The BC4J Tester works fine....

  • BC4J: How get Connection from Application Module

    I've written a custom method for my Application Module for using by the client tier. In this method I call a JPUblisher created class, that accesses a PL/SQL procedure. For this JPublisher created class I need a connection context. The class calls DefaultContext.getDefaultContext() but that seems to be null.
    How can I get the current Connection of the Application Module, so that I can create a DefaultContext?
    Unfortunately Transaction has no getConnection method.
    Thanks,
    Robert

    We don't make the Connection directly available because in some sense it's a rope on which you can hang yourself if you are not careful. Since BC4J AppModules are most often used from a pool, and you might be using connection pooling in addition to application module pooling, in general it is not safe to get hold of the raw JDBC connection and "hang onto it".
    If you make careful use to always get the current JDBC connection before you use it, and not try to cache it, then you should be ok. Often, you can avoid the need to get the raw JDBC connection by calling getDBTransaction().createPreparedStatement(...) or the analogous createCallableStatement() or createStatement() that are also on the DBTransaction interface.
    Here is a little function you can add to your application module impl class to retrieve the Connection:
      private Connection getCurrentConnection() {
        Statement st = null;
        try {
          st = getDBTransaction().createStatement(0);
          return st.getConnection();
        catch (SQLException s) {
          s.printStackTrace();
          return null;
        finally {
          if (st != null) try { st.close(); } catch (SQLException s2) {}
      }It basically creates a (dummy) statement, gets the current connection from the statement, then closes the statement.
    I tried using this in a custom method in an AppModuleImpl class that invoked a JPublisher-create package-wrapper class like this:
      public void callStoredProc() {
        try {
          // Empservice is package wrapper class created by JPublisher
          Empservice e = new Empservice(getCurrentConnection());
          BigDecimal sal = e.lookupsalary(new BigDecimal(7369));
          System.out.println(sal);
        catch (SQLException s) {
          s.printStackTrace();
      }and it works for me.

  • Using Application Module outside ADF Application context

    I am trying to run application module using a standalone java class. Trying to use Application Module outside ADF Application context.
    I have created a jar file on my standalone java class, and added my ADF application jar files to the classpath while running my standalone java file as a Jar file.
    I could connect to the application module and I am able to get the response from my application module.
    Below is the code I used to invoke my application module method from my standalone java class.
         public static void main(String[] args) {
              System.out.println("Testing .....");
             String jdbcURL = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:XE";
             Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
             env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, JboContext.JBO_CONTEXT_FACTORY);
             env.put(JboContext.DEPLOY_PLATFORM, JboContext.PLATFORM_LOCAL);
             try {
                 Context ic = new InitialContext(env);
                 String defName = "com.org.model.BatchJobAppModule";
                 ApplicationModuleHome home = (ApplicationModuleHome)ic.lookup(defName);
                 ApplicationModule mbApplicationModule= (ApplicationModule)home.create();
                 mbApplicationModule.getTransaction().connect(jdbcURL, "HR", "HR");
                    ((BatchJobAppModuleImpl)mbApplicationModule).connectToDatabase();
             } catch (NamingException ne) {
                 // TODO: Add catch code
                 ne.printStackTrace();
    {code}
    I am getting following messages.

    How to get connection from a datasource, to avoid supplying database credentials which will vary from one environment to another.
    Please let me know if any one has pointers.

    Thanks Shay for your response.
    When I run the standalone java class from jDeveloper 11.1.1.5.0, I am able to get application module and also able to get the out put from application module method. While running the java class jdev is exectung the class with javaw command. I tried to execute the same from commnd prompt, it didn't print anything on the command prompt. So I tried to execute java command with "java followed by class path" as below.

  • Configuration of Application Module

    Is it possible to run an ADF Swing application in JDeveloper, using JDBC DataSource Connection Type for Application Module configuration? If yes, anyone has a demo application for this?
    In SRDemo sample application, there are 2 application module configurations, one is SRServiceLocal using JDBC DataSource and the other is SRServiceLocalTesting using JDBC URL. Can JUnit testing be done with JDBC DataSource? If not, what are the reasons?

    Hi,
    you can use the J2EE datasource inly if the ADF BC model is deployed as an EJB. If you run ADF Swing stand-alone with ADF BC deployed to the client then this is not an option

  • Passivation of Application Module before session timeout

    Hi,

    I have an application (ADF BC and ADF Faces) built with jsff fragment and I have set user session time out in 4 hours.
    After some time (even before 1 hour of inactivity) I receive following error and unable to work on the page. I have to log out and login again to proceed.
    After approx 20 minutes of inactivity I can see the following log messages:

    Is there any way to keep the session alive and keep the application state alive till session times out (4 hours in this case).
    Do I need to setup any other parameters etc.
    Thanks in advance.

    You should read http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15523_01/web.1111/b31974/bcstatemgmt.htm#sm0318 and http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15523_01/web.1111/b31974/bcampool.htm#sm0299 as these parameters control when the application module gets passivated.
    However, if you see this kind of problem it points to a general problem with activation/passivation in your application modules. I strongly recommend that you test your application with application module polling turned off. Then the application module is passivated after each request and errors in this region should pop up even on the developer pc.
    For more info read http://tompeez.wordpress.com/2011/07/08/jdev-always-test-your-app-with-applicationmodule-pooling-turned-off/

  • Is it proper for an application module has 300 views in the data model?

    Based on my understanding, all view object instances are initialized at the same time as the application module.
    It follows that when an application module is associated with a user session, the queries of each view object in the data model are executed.
    ie. if the data model has 325 view object instances, 325 queries will be executed.
    This doesn't seem efficient:
    1. As each user session only need to access a subset of the view objects (for examples 35 views), the rest of view objects need not be instantiated for that session.
    2. Performance may be slow on executing all 325 queries at one time, even worse when some queries are complex queries.
    Am I correct on this?
    In this case, will it be better to instantiate the view objects using the view object definition at runtime instead of adding all of them to the application module at design time?

    No, that's not the default behaviour.
    Assuming you're talking JDev 11, the AM on it's General tab as a Tuning option where you can set the loading of the VOs to Lazy or Non-Lazy, Lazy is the default. In turn each VO on their General tab also has a Tuning option of similar nature.
    Online documentation says:
    Lazy LoadingSelect to choose lazy loading. In this case, the application module instance is created without any of its components. Your view object and nested application module instances will not load until the first time they are used. For example, when lazy loading is enabled, a view object is instantiated only when the application accesses it. This will make start-up time faster.
    Non-lazy Loading
    Select to choose non-lazy loading. Your view object and nested application module instances will load when the application starts up. For example, suppose the application module you are editing defines three view objects and two nested application modules (which appear in the Application Module Instance section of the Data Model page over the application module overview editor). When lazy loading is disabled, the application module instance is created together with all three view objects and both nested application modules.>
    So in essence as you describe for each session, if we're using the Lazy setting, even though you have 325 VOs within an AM, if the user within the session only visits 35 queries, only 35 queries should fire.
    Does this help?

  • Nested Application Module

    I have this problem, and I wish I can find a solution.
    I have two application module, am1 and am2, am2 is nested in am1, and I'm using <jbo:ApplicationModule> tag to open a connection for the application module.
    I have this case, I want to access page that insert into a table but this insertion should not be committed until another operation is committed, and these two operation occurred on two different views in the 2 application module, so I want to know how can I get the application module am2 using <jbo:ApplicationModule> tag, and making it using the transaction context of application module am1.

    Omar,
    there is a getRootApplicationModule()method on the ApplicationModuleImpl class, did you try this ?

  • "This document could not be checked out." SharePoint 2010 checkout action using IE8

    I am setting up a two-server farm, and most everything works, except the checkout action for a document.  This problem occurs in both site collections, one of which requires checkout, and the other does not.
    Here are the options I've tried:
    Snow Leopard, Firefox 3.0.1 - works
    Snow Leopard, Safari - works
    Win 2003, IE 7 - works
    XP, Firefox - works
    XP, IE 8 - "This document could not be checked out.  You may not have permission to check out the document or it is already checked out or locked for editing by another user."
    In IE8, I am able to open a document as read only then use the button presented by Word to check out the document.  I cannot use that as a workaround, as not all users have a version of Office that will allow checkout in that way.
    Checkin works fine.  I need to resolve the checkout error.

    I was having the same problem mentioned here. I noted that this problem only appears when I use the FQDN in the URL ex 'http://hostname.domain.com/default.aspx'. If I access the Sharepoint site using the URL 'http://hostname/default.aspx', then
    I do not have any problems checking files in or out.
    I ran into this same error pattern when trying to do a document edit (library is set to force a check out), or do a direct check out via the ribbon menu or item context menu.  Oddly enough when we would use the 'Edit Properties' ribbon button (which forces
    a check out) we did not get an error and the document's status would change to 'checked out'.  Below are the two messages we would receive when trying to do a check out:
     IE error message - "This document could not be checked out. You may not have permission to check out this document or it is already checked out or locked by another user." - Click OK
     IE Error message - "The document could not be opened for editing. A Microsoft SharePoint Foundation compatible application could not be found to edit the document." - Click OK
    After trying several different suggestions I realized that I wasn't having the problem when I was accessing the site locally via FQDN but only when I was using the Public Site URL (via https).  Turns out we were getting the error because we did not have
    an AAM currectly setup.  Once I changed our AAM for the Internet zone with the Public URL value instead of the FQDN the error went away.
    Hope this helps anyone else trying to track this down.  Oh and this was SP2010 w/SP1 (Patch version 14.0.6106.5001) on Win2008 R2 with clients running both Win7 and WinXP using IE8.

  • After userA check out a page, edit the page and save, Sharepoint prompt userA have checked out the page

    In one of site collection at our SP2013 farm, we have "SharePoint Server Publishing" site feature and "SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure" site collection feature activated.
    One of user (UserA) create a page in a page library. The new page is marked as "checked out by UserA". It is fine.
    Then UserA open the page -> edit page -> key in something and "save". Then the page prompt him "The file Pages/subfolder/test001.aspx has been modified by i:0#.w|test\userA on 8Aug2014 xx:xx:xx" and ask him to choose "Leave
    this page" or "say at this page".  The date time is exactly the time he was editing the page.
    Whatever he choose will save the page and return to "View" mode (non-edit mode).
    It is not the only problem. When userA want to edit the same page again and save, it prompt him that "The page could not be saved because your changes conflict with recent changes made by another user. If you continue, your changes will be lost."!
    When userA choose continue or "check out". Follow screen show up:
    What can we do? In summary, userA cannot edit a page because userA have checked out! We have tried for different users have exactly same issue.

    We are having the same problem, the one thing we have found is if we use the Save Icon on the top right hand side of the page in the ribbon (next to follow), that Save works just fine.  What is causing the issue is when trying to use the Save Icon on
    the left hand side of the ribbon that has the dropdown options to 'Save', 'Save and Keep Editing' or 'Stop Editing'.  It doesn't matter if you just click on the main Icon or choose any of the dropdown options, they all cause issues with the pages.
    Thoughts?

  • How to show the checked-out symbol in list of files in a folder

    Hi,
    When the folder is selected it is showing all the files in that folder. But, the user would not know which file had been checked out. In general it should show the lock symbol (As similar to Documentum, webtop) when a file had been checked out by some other user.
    How to show the lock/key column in list of files. Any other way to find a file had been checked out or not instead of going into the content information.
    Also, how do we add additional columns like author etc... to the list of files screen in UCM?
    Please help

    You should double check, but I don't believe that the check-out info is in the resultset. Because that information isn't available, the state of each row in the search results table cannot be defined. So, the first hurdle would be to add that info to the dataset.
    The second hurdle would be to alter the UI to leverage that info (e.g., the key icon when checked out).
    If you're looking to alter the folder views, then look to the COLLECTION_DISPLAY service & related template. Other views (e.g., search results) have different templates and backing services.
