Dataguard  log replication

We have a site HP-UX PA-RISK and the stand by site has Itanium, can I make physical or logical standby., does it support.

  • Event Log Replication on Cluster Server (MS Server 2003)

    Please help me about the EnableEventLogReplication on SERVER 2003. I just saw the recommended on MS support about it.
    "If the EnableEventLogReplication registry entry is set to 1, the cluster node replicates events in the event log to all other nodes in the cluster. Tools that monitor multiple
    servers, report a single event multiple times, one time from each node. "
    I have got the problem about event logs replicates and hard to summary event logs on all nodes. If I want to disable this function I would like to know the effect about this one. it will not replicates events and will not get any worse cases on the server
    that my customer using? Could you please advise?

    As you mentioned, if you disable EnableEventLogReplication, Event Log Replication will be disable for one or more node in the cluster or the entire cluster. One or more cluster node is down or has experienced a failure, and preventing Event Log Replication
    from taking place.
    Note: if you disable the replication at a specific node, replication of events from that node to other nodes is disabled. Other nodes that have the EnableEventLogReplication property turned on still replicate to that node. This only replicates the System,
    Application and Security event logs.

  • Dataguard for replication

    Hello there,
    If I am using external Netapps storage and snapmirror to replicate data to my storage array at the DR site do i still need to use dataguard for log shipping?
    I am a little confused where both fit. Are they basically both replication technologies, dataguard being at the database level, and netapps using storage level replication
    Advice would be much appreciated
    Cheers
    C

    Oracle data guard is more for high availability and data redundancy hence it was designed and to be used for that purpose. Like you can only open the database for reading (both logical and physical standby, you have a little bit freedom in logical standby where tables that not being maintained through regenerated SQL transactions allow read/write access)
    Base on your scenario I don't think data guard is good fit for you. As Oracle Relication and Stream are designed for your purpose.
    One of the primary uses of Stream is Data Warehouse Loading .

  • AAA server logs replication

    •1.       We have two locations and require Cisco ACS 5.x for each location.
    •2.       Both locations are connected via MPLS link.
    •3.       Need to deploy both ACS in Active-Active OR Active-Standby.
    •4.       The idea is that users in network A will have their primary ACS as ACS A and secondary ACS as ACS B.
    •5.       Similarly users in network B will have its primary ACS as ACS B local to their LAN.
    If ACS in network A goes down, then users in network A should be able to authenticate using ACS B in remote network and vice versa.
    •6.       Now what we got to understand by reading ACS documents is that incase one of ACS goes down, the accounting logs do not get replicated to secondary ACS and vice versa.
    •7.       I would like to have a kind of setup where in  Accounting logs are also replicated between ACS servers. The idea is that, I should have complete logs of both the servers up to the time till one of the ACS breaks down.
    Kindly let me know if the accounting logs can be replicated in the manner as mentioned above.
    Also let me know the typical bandwidth utilized during replication of ACS A to ACS B.
    We have around 500 users combining both sides.
    Our proposal is dependent upon working of the above solution…kindly see if ACS5.x will work in the above scenario as we need to propose the same.

    I hope I get your question correctly. The AAA group tag is local to the AAA Client and has nothing to do with the AAA Server (e.g. ACS). It is meant to group more than one TACACS/RADIUS server.
    Proxy Distribution Table is used when you have Multiple ACS servers and you want to route incoming AAA requests to particular server(s) based on pre-defined criteria. Like user1@NY should be redirected to the NewYork ACS.

  • Dataguard logs

    Hai
    i have some confusion in the redo logs creation for the standby database.
    i would like to know whether we should copy the logfiles along with the datafiles and put it in the standby database location or we have to create the standby logfiles and after that we have to place it in the standby database location
    if we have both logfiles copied and the standby logfiles created in the same standby location will it cause any problem?
    Regards
    orauser123

    You will not be able to copy the logfiles if you create the standby DB from hot oracle backups.
    Standby redo logs are a different concept from redo logs and they are created for supporting the MAXPROTECTION/AVAILABILITY modes and also for run time replications. It will be nice to have it on primary and standby DB in case you want to configure switchover operation. For just configuring failover standby redo logs needs to be created only on standby DB server.
    Also if you create standby DB without redo logs being copied to standby DB, then once you create the standby DB try bouncing the standby DB and you will find that redo logs are being created by oracle in the location as specified in control file of standby DB. Try checking this scenario at your end as well.

  • Oracle Dataguard - Logs apply issue

    Hi,
    Due to some issue our archives logs are not applying from production to standy. we had our standby at London. i dont see any error messages. not sure what is happening, i had case open with oracle support.
    we need to shutdown all our production and DR last sunday. once it is back up it stopped sending logs. our production server is a 3 node RAC.
    i just need how to apply archive logs from production to standby which is in london.
    appricate your quick response.
    Thanks

    Hello,
    Please post the result:
    SELECT MAX(SEQUENCE#), MAX(COMPLETION_TIME), APPLIED FROM V$ARCHIVED_LOG GROUP BY APPLIED;
    and
    SELECT * FROM V$ARCHIVE_GAP;
    also you can copy them from the primary to the standby and apply them one by one:
    ALTER DATABASE REGISTER LOGFILE 'LOG_FILE_NAME';
    if the gapsequence is so big like 20 or 30 days i will recreate the dataguard using and clone it using rman.
    Kind regards

  • Dataguard log switch question

    Wonder if anyone can help me with a question?
    I am new to data guard and only recently setup my first implementation of a primary and standby Oracle 11 g database.
    It's all setup correctly, i.e no gaps sequences showing, no errors in the alert logs and I have successfully tested a switch over and switch back.
    I wanted to re-test the archive logs were going across to the standby database ok, unfortunately I performed an alter system switch logfile on the standby database instead of primary.
    No errors are reported anywhere, no archive log sequence gaps or errors in the alert logs, but I am wondering if this will cause a problem the next time I have to failover to the standby database?
    Apologies for my lack of my knowledge I am new data guard and only been a DBA for a couple of years, have not had time to read up on the 500 page Data Guard book yet.
    Thanks in Advance

    First you have to know what happens when log switch occurs either manually or internally.
    All data & changes will be in online redo log files, once log switch occurred either automatic or forcefully, these information from online redo log files will be dumped to archives.
    Now tell me. Where will be the online redo? There is no concept of online redo data on standby, in case of real time apply you will have only standby redo log files, even you cannot switch standby redo log files.
    First this command on standby won't work, it's applicable only for online redo log files. So onions redo exists/active only in primary.
    So nothing to worry on it. Make sure environment is sync prior to performing switchover.
    Hope this helps.

  • System Replication(DR): procedure to monitor the difference among the 3 different log modes

    Is there any procedure to check the influence of the selected log replication mode (sync, syncmem or async) to the primary system?
    Details about the replication seem to be provided only in the  system view M_SERVICE_REPLICATION. Which kind of queries might be useful to track the difference?
    And taking about the view M_SERVICE_REPLICATION: what are the “Delta Replicas” and why are they triggered if logs are replicated after an initial full replication?

    Hi Sue,
    I am setting DB_LEGACY for all sites. I loop over the list of sites, create a dbsite object and do this:
    209 int eid;
    212 DbSite *dbsite;
    213 m_env.repmgr_site(e.host.c_str(), e.port, &dbsite, 0);
    214 dbsite->set_config(DB_BOOTSTRAP_HELPER, 1);
    215 dbsite->set_config(DB_LEGACY, 1);
    216 dbsite->get_eid(&eid);
    217 dbsite->close();
    221 m_replication_info.replica_map[eid] = e.host;
    Here is a full code listing https://github.com/hypertable/hypertable/blob/master/src/cc/Hyperspace/BerkeleyDbFilesystem.cc, the relevant code is in the constructor BerkeleyDbFilesystem::BerkeleyDbFilesystem(...) starting on line 74. The same code is run on all the replication sites simultaneously.
    Is there some other logging flag I should enable to get more debug info?

  • Asynch Hot Log mode does not use hot (online) redo logs

    Version 10.2
    We have just set up a test of the Asynch Hot Log replication according to Chap 16 of the Data Warehousing guide.
    We can see data put into the change table. However, it seems that data gets written to the change table ONLY after a log switch. This would suggest that the capture process is not reading the online logs, but is only reading the archived logs.
    I don't think this can be correct behavior because the docs indicate that Oracle "seamlessly switches" between the online and the archived redo logs.
    Is there a flag or something to set to cause the online logs to be available to the capture process? Or is this a bug? Has anyone else observed this behavior?
    Thanks for any insight.
    -- Chris Curzon

    According to the 10g Dataguard docs, section 2.5.1:
    "Physical standby databases do not use an online redo log, because physical standby databases are not opened for read/write I/O."yes, those are used when database is open.
    You should not perform any changes in Standby. Even if those exist online redo log files, whats the difficulty you have seen?
    These will be used whenever you performed switchover/failover. So nothing to worry on this.
    Is this a case of the STANDBY needing at least a notion of where the REDO logs will need to be should a failover occur, and if the files are already there, the standby database CONTROLFILE will hold onto them, as they are not doing any harm anyway?Then oracle functionality itself harm if you think in that way. When they not used in open then what the harm with that?
    Standby_File_management --> for example if you add any datafile, those information will be in archives/redos once they applied on standby those will be added automatically when it is set to AUTO if its manual, then it creates a unnamed file in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs location later you have to rename that file and recovery need to perform .

  • Dataguard in a replicated environment

    Folks,
    Has anyone implemented dataguard(standby database) in a replicated environment
    or
    worked in an environment where replication (updateable snapshots) are in place already along with dataguard?
    Are there any complications I need to be aware of whilst setting-up dataguard with replication on?
    Thanks
    Amit

    That is entirely due to the checkpoint delay. Depending on variations in hardware,
    I/O configuration and workload, it can take clients longer to flush their caches than
    the master. You can adjust the delay, which is 30 seconds by default, by calling
    the DB_ENV->rep_set_timeout API with the DB_REP_CHECKPOINT_DELAY flag.
    If you set it to 0, there will be no delay.

  • Comparision between Multimaster replication and data guard

    Hi,
    I have some questions regarding Multimaster Replication and Data Guard. Like
    *1.)* I have a web site having database in oracle 10.2.0 and multimaster replication configured on it. But whenever i need to change the structure of the tables i
    need to stop replication. So my web site is unavailable but my first priority is availability. So will it be useful for me to configure data guard.
    *2.)* I have configured data guard for testing . My Database is Named as Gard and physical standby database is like stan.
    it is working fine.
    suppose my main database server get corrupted i have no option to start main database server. Now i left with only standby server how i can start standby server
    as database main server.
    *3.)* Is there any if main database stop working Standby database start working as main without dba intervention.
    Thanks
    Umesh
    Edited by: Umesh Sharma on Jan 14, 2009 4:17 AM

    Hi Umesh,
    first of all you should be aware that Dataguard and Replication are two completely different things.
    While the database where you replicate to is always up and open in read write mode, a physical standby can either be recovering or open in read only mode.
    1.) I think from what you are telling you probably should consider using dataguard with a logical standby database, but be aware that there will be some limitations regarding datatypes.
    2.) you can do a failover or a switchover, depending on your database version switchback may not be possible
    3.) have a look at dataguard broker, you can use it to automate the failover
