Datapump files: how to analyse

This thread is about methods of analyzing the contents of Oracle data pump dump files.
In my company we have a support department routinely receiving export dump files from our customers that are imported locally in order to conduct reproduction of issues and providing support on configuration. These dump files can be anything like Oracle datapump dumps, old-style Oracle dump files or non-Oracle database dump files. An in-house tool conducts operations like importing, reloading and exporting. So far this tool cannot handle datapump dumps. I am currently defining specs for a new version of our tool in order to support data pump too.
This situation means that when a dumpfile X is offered for processing by our tooling the systems knows very little of the file. In fact not even if it is an Oracle dump file or not. In the era of Oracle only having traditional export available not that much of a problem: with the first few lines of a old-style Oracle dump being more or less readable text it was possible to conduct a quick test whether it is a Oracle dump or not. Largely regardless of the size of the dump file.
And now for Oracle data pump...
I am aware of the possibility of generating a sql file based on a datapump file (CONTENT=METADATA_ONLY option and pl/sql equivalent).
Multiple drawbacks:
#1: The result is a .sql file that needs to be interpreted too;
#2: The file must be copied to a database server; to a Oracle directory before conducting the test. For multiple GB files copying over the network takes time and creates network load.
#3: The database server doing the analysis must be of equal or higher version than the dump file. In case an Oracle 11 server is doing the analysis but it turns out to be an Oracle 10 dump it mus yest once more be copied over the network to the corresponding database server.
So what I would like to know is whether there is some kind of fixed header in a datapump export file that can be read and interpreted without the involvement of a database server. Even the possibility of getting basic property values would help. Like 'is it a datapump file or not' or 'what Oracle version did create the dump'.
I did search for this quite extensively as I would expect something like this to be available but without success so far.
Any ideas, anybody? If so please share.

Yes I did. And it indeed comes the closest to what I want so far. Only drawback is that this still requires the dump file to be copied to a Oracle server and a connection to Oracle needs to be made. While in this stage of our process I am not even certain it is a Oracle dump, let alone data pump. It might even be a dump of another database vendor in this stage.
So my question is really about finding some 'fixed header format' or alike that can be used for a quick test. Preferably without having the need of copying files over the network or having an Oracle server available.

For example, in Notes, I have written three notes; however if I click on 'All On My Mac' on the side bar, I see about 10 different versions of each note I make, it saves a version every time I add or delete a sentence.
I also noticed, that when I write an email, Mail saves about 10 or more draft versions before the final is sent.
I understand that all this journaling provides a level of security, and prevents data lost; but I was wondering, is there a function to clean up journal logs once in a while?

Are you using Microsoft word? Microsoft thinks the users are idiots. They put up a lot of pointless messages that annoy & worry users. I have seen this message from Microsoft word. It's annoying.
As BDaqua points out...
When you copy information via edit > copy, command + c, edit > cut, or command +x, you place the information on the clipboard. When you paste information, edit > paste or command + v, you copy information from the clipboard to your data file.
If you edit > cut or command + x and you do not paste the information and you quite Word, you could be loosing information. Microsoft is very worried about this. When you quite Word, Microsoft checks if there is information on the clipboard & if so, Microsoft puts out this message.
You should be saving your work more than once a day. I'd save every 5 minutes. command + s does a save.

With an API like Xerces you can parse an XML document into a DOM tree. You can do modifications on that tree manually and then write it back out as XML data.

Just drag the small window to the top right below the toolbar, you'll see the area highlighted and when you drop it the file should dock.

After you merge the files or combine files ,click on the Page Thumbnails panel on the left hand side.
In the Page Thumbnail panel ,right click and you will get a drop down list .Select the option "Number Pages".
You will see a dialog box with several options .You can renumber the pages from there as per your requirement.

I’m using version 11.0.10. So where the Menu resides in a folder ready to be burnt on to a CD, that same folder is where the links point to.

Do a backup.
Take notes of all account information or take screen shots. You may need to set the accounts up again. Quit Mail.
Copy the line below.
~/Library/Mail/V2
Select Go/Go To Folder from the Finder menu bar. Paste the line into the window. You won't see it.
That should show you the accounts. Select the appropriate inbox and dig around in the folders until you find the e-mail matching the number. Try to delete/move to the trash. If successful, launch Mail and test.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.

You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after every update. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

Did you download it from Adobe or a pop up? If it was a pop up do not open it. Make sure you only get it directly from Adobe here:

There is some malware that poses as Flash, in pop ups.
Then do as macbig explained double click on the file,
After you open and install the .dmg reboot your computer to complete the installation
