Date format doesn't follow my International settings

In System Preferences > International > Formats, I have set up my date format to be yyyy/mm/dd but the date format options available in Numbers don't include this. Numbers only gives the American mm/dd/yyyy option for an 8-digit date format.
Surely this is a bug? Is there any way to set the formats in Numbers to obey System Preferences?

Hello
Two problems in fact.
- 1 - from what does Numbers grab it's default date format?
I set the International prefPanes to "Long date" with years on four digits but Numbers defaults to 1 déc.07. Here I'm afraid that this is a bug. Maybe one linked to localization.
- 2 - Numbers offers a menu giving us the ability to change the used format but alas, the ISO format is not available. Here it's not a bug. It seems that they simply ignored this format.
*Go to "Provide Numbers Feedback" in the "Numbers" menu* and describe what you wish.
I already asked Apple about that because it's really surprising that the ISO format (which is the international rule) is not reachable in Numbers.

  • Java.sql.SQLException:ORA-01801:date format is too long for internal buffer

    Hi,
    I am getting the following exception when i trying to insert data in to a table through a stored procedure.
    oracle.apps.fnd.framework.OAException: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01801: date format is too long for internal buffer
    when execute this stored procedure from ana anonymous block , it gets executed successfully, but i use a OracleCallableStatement to execute the procedure i am getting this error.
    Please let me know how to resolve this error.
    Is this error something to do with the Database Configuration ?
    Thanks & Regards
    Meenal

    I don't know if this will help, but we were getting this error in several of the standard OA framework pages and after much pain and aggravation it was determined that visiting the Sourcing Home Page was changing the timezone. For most pages this just changed the timezone that dates were displayed in, but some had this ORA-01801 error and some others had an ORA-01830 error (date format picture ends before converting entire input string). Unfortunately, if you are not using Sourcing at your site, this probably won't help, but if you are, have a look at patch # 4519817.
    Note that to get the same error, try the following query (I got this error in 9.2.0.5 and 10.1.0.3):
    select to_date('10-Mar-2006', 'DD-Mon-YYYY________________________________________________HH24:MI:SS') from dual;
    It appears that you can't have a date format that is longer than 68 characters.

  • International Date Format Doesn't "Stick"

    I have tried to set the international date and time format to "medium" for both the Dates and Times sections, but no matter what I do the change doesn't stick. Upon restart, the setting has reverted to "short". What can I do to get the "medium" setting to stay?

    Hi Jason -
    Not sure if this will work but try deleting the presets that are present, then select 'medium' then add the numerical bits that you want into the empty space by dragging them over. Don't forget to hit OK. After this try logging out to see if it stuck or not.

    first off, you've got to_date(to_date(...)) - NEVER do this - you're forcing an implicit to_char which can cause all sorts of problems!
    What is the data type of your column val_5? If it's DATE then your query is simply:
    select UPPER(t.val_10) "TYPE",
           count(val_3) "Number of Transfers"
    from   table1 t
    where  t.is_active = 1
    and    t.val_4 = 'INBOUND'
    and    val_5 between to_date('01/08/2008','DD/MM/YYYY') and add_months(to_date('01/08/2008','DD/MM/YYYY') ,1)
    group by UPPER(t.val_10)
    order by UPPER(t.val_10)If it's a varchar2 (why, oh why, oh why, ...?!), then your query should be:
    select UPPER(t.val_10) "TYPE",
           count(val_3) "Number of Transfers"
    from   table1 t
    where  t.is_active = 1
    and    t.val_4 = 'INBOUND'
    and    to_date(val_5, 'mm/dd/yyyy hh:mi:ss AM') between to_date('01/08/2008','DD/MM/YYYY') and add_months(to_date('01/08/2008','DD/MM/YYYY') ,1)
    group by UPPER(t.val_10)
    order by UPPER(t.val_10)Remember that dates in DATE format are stored in an internal Oracle format - in order for you to tell Oracle that your string is a date, you need to use to_date. When you want to retrieve a date, you need to use to_char to put it into the format you want to see it in.
    Remember also that your nls_date_format defines the default format that you'll see a date, which is what is used in the implicit conversion that oracle does when you select a date:
    SQL> alter session set nls_date_format='dd/mm/yyyy hh24:mi:ss';
    Session altered.
    SQL> select sysdate from dual;
    SYSDATE
    26/03/2009 11:01:53
    1 row selected.
    SQL> alter session set nls_date_format='mm/dd/yy hh12:mi:ss AM';
    Session altered.
    SQL> select sysdate from dual;
    SYSDATE
    03/26/09 11:02:24 AM
    1 row selected.It doesn't make sense to convert something that's already in a DATE format into a DATE format - in order to do that, oracle has to first change the date into a string, and it does that by using the nls_date_format parameter setting - if you're working with dates-in-strings that are in a different format, then all sorts of problems arise, as you have found out!

  • Date format in Finder

    Swedish Leopard 10.5.2
    In the Finder's list view, is it possible to alter the date format shown? In the system settings, there are 4 different date strings available to alter (I don't want to start by altering them if I don't need to). Loosely translated from Swedish, they are called "Short", "Normal", "Long" and "Full".
    Finder displays the "Full" date format, followed by the time. I would like to change this to display the "Short" date format instead. Is this possible somehow? I know I can turn off showing dates as "Yesterday" and such, but that is NOT what I'm after. I want to display the date as set by the "Short" date format in the system settings.
    Is this possible to somehow achieve with some "defaults write" command in the terminal? I am new to OS X, but not afraid to fiddle with things like this.
    Thanks for any response on this.

    There are four different date formats in International, System preferences.
    The Finder seems to use all of these depending on the width of the time column.
    I myself don't like the appearance of the date and time changing with the width of a column.
    In particular I don't like the date with names for months; it's annoying for comparison.
    The only way to always get the same date/time in list view of the Finder is to make all date formats
    (short,medium,long,full) the same. That's what I have done and now I have what I want.
    It won't win a beauty contest.

  • URGENT !!!!   Problem with Date format MM/DD/YYYY in oracle database to BW

    Hi
    I am wondering if somebody can help me urgently.
    I have oracle database where date is of the format MM/DD/YYYY and I am loading data into BW. DATE data type
    Date in oracle database: 3/30/2007
    First when I used InfoObject ZDATE (with 0DATE) reference (DATS data type) data load failed saying that
    'Value '30-MAR-0 ' of characteristic 0DATE is not a number with 000008 spaces'
    Then I created ZDATE InfoObject as CHAR Type (Length 10) with PDATE Conversion Routine.
    when I created datasource using DB Connect and checked the contents using 'Display Table Contents' after creating data source the data field distorted as
    AR/-0/30-M
    After data load. when I checked PSA
    The Date records look same as AR/-0/30-M
    In cube the field appeared as  30-MAR-0  (last digit of year disappearing)
    In BEx report also it looks like 'AR/-0/30-M'
    Can somebody help me as quickly as possible.
    What should I do if i want to still use DATS data type for ZDATE?
    should I change date format in database if so to what?
    If I should use CHAR type with PDATE or any other routine can somebody give me the routine to have the date in the report exactly as it appears in database?
    I also tried changing date format in user profile...settings. But still its the same.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Snrella,
    You can solve this by converting the date format from oracle to the SAP internal date format  using an ABAP routine in the transfer rules.
    Assuming the oracle data field name is ZODATE then here's the ABAP you can use in the transfer rules. Create an ABAP routine transfer rule from ZODATE to your ZDATE infoobject, and then put this ABAP code there. (this code assumes that the format of the date from oracle is MM/DD/YYYY).
    concatenate tran_structure-/BIC/ZODATE+6(4) tran_structure-/BIC/ZODATE(2) tran_structure-/BIC/ZODATE+3(2) into result.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to specify date format in a schema

    I got the following error when try to write data to a flat file using file adapter. I think it's because my variable's date format doesn't match what's in the xml schema. I defined the xml schema by using 'Define Schema for Native Format', but I can not specify date format there. How do I know what format the system will read and how to define my own date format?
    file:/D:/OracleSOA/bpel/domains/default/tmp/.bpel_FileWriteTest_1.0_098a8d5cd6b8965868766a3fbb25be3c.tmp/FWrite.wsdl [ Write_ptt::Write(Root-Element) ] - WSIF JCA Execute of operation 'Write' failed due to: Translation Error.
    Error while translating message to native format [Caused by: Invalid text '10-09-2006' in element: 'LastUpdateDate'].
    Thank you,

    Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\HOME{X}
    NLS_DATE_FORMAT = 'dd-mm-yyyy'
    You could also change the database date format :
    SQL> alter system set NLS_DATE_FORMAT = 'dd-mm-yyyy' scope=spfile;
    and restart the DB.

  • SAP Business Objects 4.1 - American Date Format Issue

    This issue is something that keeps arising, if your viewing a crystal report, or building a new Webi report in 4.1 and viewing it, the date format seems to come out as M/D/YYYY HH:MM:SS, this never happened in 4.0.
    I will give an example, today I updated a 4.0 to 4.1 using the update path in a development server, and updated to 4.1 SP03 which is the latest. When I decided to write a Web Intelligence Report or create a Crystal report and publish this, all the date formats came out in American date format, and not the standard English one DD/MM/YYYY HH:MM:SS anymore. However if I go to the Live server which I haven't yet updated and is still on 4.0 SP04 Patch 11 and perform exactly the same its in English format as it always was.
    Can someone please enlighten me to what has changed from 4.0 to 4.1 in terms of configuration regarding the date formats changing.
    My server regional settings are English, and using the default GMT date time, so is my machine. 4.0 works 4.1 doesn't work the same.
    I have tried changing the .prm files in the connectionserver\dataaccess folder as well, this doesn't seem to make a difference and also used LOV's in universe objects and when using these in prompts you get ameican format. I have also changed the preferences in the BI Launch Pad to view English locale and the GMT date time for Greenwich Mean Time.
    Please can someone advise or suggest where I am going wrong here and how to solve this.
    Many Thanks

    Thanks for your quick response. I have done the check on the universe design tool. I have tried the options - Migration forced and set English (UK). I purged the LOVs and refreshed. No luck as yet. Checked the locale and seems to be fine. When i change the BI launchpad - Web Intelligence preferences to HTML, then the LOV displays correctly - dd/mm/yyyy. The behaviour only occurs when displaying LOV in Applet mode. Maybe will have to look at some Java settings. Thanks
    Added Update- I created a variable =GetPreferredViewingLocale() and tested in WEBI Report with a date object. When I use the BI launchpad Web intelligence Preference to HTML - it display EN_GB. When  I use the BI launchpad Web intelligence Preference to Applet - it display EN_US. It seems to be taking preferred viewing locale as US in applet mode is there a way to fix this please.
    Added Update - It was a bug on Infoview and has been resolved on SP4 . The ADAPT Ref is ADAPT01718291. Just finished testing on UAT, going Live next week with SP4.

  • Date Format Issue IN BEX REPORT

    Hi Experts,
    we are working on BW 3.5.
    we have a ODS where data is uploaded through flat file and there are 5 to 7 date field all made of Z infoobjects.
    So now the user is putting the data for these Date fields as 20110901 = 1st sep2011. but in report its coming as 09/01/2011
    when i checked all the Z fields that are created for this date fields have reference character as Date
    only one field is character so it is coming correct as given by the user
    but rest all are appearing in different format . In ODS also the date is coming as 09/01/2011
    now the user want all the data to be in the same format as given by HIM.
    I cant even change the properties of these Z info object removing the reference info object 0Date and make them character string.
    so now please suggest how to upload the date given by the user as it is without changing the format and also how to change the format for the back data as its flat file so No data can be deleted.
    thankkkkkkkks

    hello
    Bex analyzer is an excel add-in. Date formats are based on your regional settings.
    If you want to have a different date format in the sap gui then you have to change your user profile in sap system.
    Flat file upload needs the date format in a database format (YYYYMMDD).
    You can transform the date in the transformation step with rules or with a routine( abap coding).
    Thank you

    I am facing problem in validation data in FDQM.
    When I am trying to validate data,I am getting an error as ' An Error occured.Please verify that SQL Date Format Mask is correct'

    I did not have this problem earlier in validating data.This problem is occuring now only and also this error is coming for few entities only.
    Could any one suggest me on how this can be resolved.
    Thanks

    Hi Kelly,
    I checked periods in control tables and there are no duplicates.
    The Period Date Format Mask is MMM-YYYY where as the SQL Date Format Mask is YYYYMMDD.
    These settings are there since the time I created application.Has it got anything to do with database.
    Appreciate your quick response

  • Wrong date format when setting Smart Album

    I've got my date format set to the standard UK settings, eg. DD/MM/YY, but in Aperture when I create a smart folder the date settings are in the US format of MM/DD/YY. Is there anyway I can fix this - I've got System Preferences correctly set to UK formats.

    There are folders and there are smart albums but I don't believe there are 'smart folders'.
    If you could describe a bit of what you are doing to would be helpful in trying to answer your question.
