• Change date format in BEx report

There is a date field in report which is character type.
ZCOMDAT - compensation date (CHAR 8)
The output of this file in report is YYYYMMDD (20110422) format which is char
This should be converted to 22-APR-2011 in BEx report.
This object is used in many reports but only in this report it should be converted.
How can this be achieved?

Hi akshara,
Apart from the above mentioned approaches i have one strange solution . You might want to consider this .
You said you have an infoobject ZCOMDAT of type char(8) .
Proceed like this :
1) In the infoobject maintain medium text for this . Insert this characteristic as an infoprovider .
2) Now since this infoobject will have the dates in the master data and hence in /BIC/PZCOMDAT table .
Create a generic datasource on this table : /BIC/PZCOMDAT .
Now create a transformation between this generic datasource & the text master data of ZCOMDAT.
map date and objvers to the text in the transformation .
And write the following routine at the field level :
If SOURCE_FIELDS-OBJVERS = 'A'.
year = SOURCE_FIELDS-/BIC/PZCOMDAT+0(4).
mon = SOURCE_FIELDS-/BIC/PZCOMDAT+4(2).
dd = SOURCE_FIELDS-/BIC/PZCOMDAT+6(2).
if mon = '01'.
      mth = 'JAN'.
ELSEIF mon = '02'.
      mth = 'FEB'.
ELSEIF mon = '03'.
      mth = 'MAR'.
ELSEIF mon = '04'.
      mth = 'APR'.
      ELSEIF mon = '05'.
      mth = 'MAY'.
      ELSEIF mon = '06'.
      mth = 'JUN'.
      ELSEIF mon = '07'.
      mth = 'JUL'.
      ELSEIF mon = '08'.
      mth = 'AUG'.
      ELSEIF mon = '09'.
      mth = 'SEP'.
      ELSEIF mon = '10'.
      mth = 'OCT'.
      ELSEIF mon = '11'.
      mth = 'NOV'.
      ELSEIF mon = '12'.
      mth = 'DEC'.
      ENDIF.
CONCATENATE DD '-' MTH '-' YEAR INTO RESULT.
CLEAR:DD,MTH,YEAR.
endif.
After this load the the data . Now your text of this object will be having the date required in your format.
3) In the query level display text for this infoobject .The date will appear in the format as you desired .
You have to include the above flow in a process chain .
Using the above method will not effect your query performance also as the calculation are happening during loading .
Hope the above reply was helpful.

• Date format in Bex report

Hi All
In Cube we have the date format like "1.1.2007".
But i have to display this date like "1-jan-2007".
is it possible ?
if posible please suggest me how to do this.
Thanks
Krishna

Hi,
I don't know if it is possible but you can try modifiying the infoobject text descriptions. You can create a routine to create the descriptions and show the data as a text in the bex.

• Date format in BEx

dear all,
i have a rather simple but puzzling question on my mind regarding date format in BEx reporting.
here's the problem... in SU01 the date format for my users are MM/DD/YYYY.
So for example, a variable in my BEx report, will only accept this value "03/2007" (month/year)
question is,
what settings can i make to allow different date formats for both 03/2007 and as well as 03.2007. Note the slash (/) and decimal (.)

Hi SCHT,
In SU3 make the properties for date as MM.DD.YYYY and then log-off and retry.
Bye

• BW Macros for Advanced Formatting of BEX Reports

Hi BW Gurus,
Would like to bring to ur attention for a small solution which i have proposed for SAP Tech Ed. As a BW consultant, you would have come across a situation where you had to decide a reporting tool that was flexible, reliable, user friendly, less expensive and that can be used with less training but still have all the features of Excel.
Topic : BW Macros for Advanced Formatting of BEX Reports
Abstract : The workshop will help you to provide advanced formatting with Bex Reports. You will also learn how to add and retain Formats in Bex reports with BW Macros. Advanced formatting includes retaining of formats with excel shawdow boxes, automatic print settings, comments, hiding rows or columns, adding calculations, changing color, maintaining report titles. etc.  The solution will help the business users/ power users to maintain different formats of a report without going for any 3rd party tools like Crystal or Business objects. As most of the business users are familiar with Excel, it would be easy for them to maintain or change the reports rather depending on IT for each change.

• Date Format for the input Variable

Hi all,
I got an issue with Date format we enter in the input variable screen for the BEx Analyzer.
We have given a format of MM/DD/YYYY. But when the users accessed the report, it is not taking the format of the variable i.e MM/DD/YYYY but it is taking the format of the users system.
If the user's system format is DD/MM/YYYY, it is accepting the input inthe same format only.
Why this strange behaviour?
My questions are
Is the input for BEx system specific? or variable specific?
Rgrds
Kumar

Hi,
I think it is user specific... you can maintain the date format for user ....
Go to SU01 transaction or.. Go to SYSTEM -> User Profile -> Own data
Here in defaults tab you can see the date formet for user...
Hope this helps...
Thanks,

• Need to change the date format in Bex

HI All
In SAP BI I have created a BEx Query. We can see BEx reports in MS Excel. Date format in the report is DD/MM/YYYY and i want it to be displayed like YYYYMMDD. but only for one date column in the report the rest stay the same. Please help.

Hi Basson,
Goto t-code SU01
Enter you user ID details click on change --> select the Default TAB here you can find the option to change the date formats.
Or
In BW  goto Menu option System > User Profile>Own Data  > It will display the user profile parameters> in default tab page change date format there.
Its better to go for a routine .

• How to change date format for prentation variable

Hi experts
In my prompt the date format is MM/DD/YYYY . I have created one presentation variable for that but i want to use this in Formula as well in Title as: DD-MON-YY
So how can i achieve it..
Thanks in advance
Regards
Frnds

Hi
i think this can't be done through any code like oracle uses to_char, to_date function.
Just follow this
http://oraclebizint.wordpress.com/2007/12/19/oracle-bi-ee-101332-dates-dates-and-dates/
With this, wherever you have this column, you will be getting this format dates..
if you don't want in reports you can change it by mentioning the data format for that paricular column in report, but for the same column, if you want different format at different places (for prompts), you can't do that..

• Date Format Display on report

Is there a way to set a custom date format on a report column? I am trying to use a format mask and it doesn't appear to be working. Maybe someone can spot my mistake:
Query: Hours Worked = Clock_IN - Clock_OUT
Format mask for Clock In/Clock Out - DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI (from list)
Format mask for Hours Worked column: HH:MI (hand typed)

• En-CA Language has incorrect Date Format in SSRS report

When I set the Language on a Report to "en-CA", then dates are formatted as dd/mm/yyyy.
This differs from the OS default format of yyyy-mm-dd for en-CA.
Is there any way to tweak the date format for a specific Language in SSRS?
Please don't say I need to add Format() calls to all of the dates in the reports...  What I want to do is just give SSRS the correct date format for "en-CA" and let it do the work of formatting automatically.
www.spritehand.com | www.andybeaulieu.com

Hi Andy,
In Reporting Services, by default, formats for date are determined by the report server language at run time. The report server language is the language of the operating system on which the report server is installed. This language is determined by the regional
settings of the computer.
Generally, the report server language supports for all ten of the SQL Server languages. But the en-CA language is not supported by SQL Server. In this way, the report server uses the mostly closely matched language of the operating system as the language.
For example, the operating system is Canada English. Because Canada English and U.S. English are in the same language family, it chooses the SQL Server language resource that most closely matches Canada English (in this case U.S. English). So the date format
uses en-US format.

• Implicit date format conversion of report column

Hello,
The following expression defines date format for report column implicitly and doesn't reflect FSP_LANGUAGE_PREFERENCE with language independent format mask of the column attribute anymore:
decode(end_date, to_date('31.12.2047', 'dd.mm.yyyy'), null, end_date) closed
end_date is of TIMESTAMP(0) WITH LOCAL TIME ZONE type, format mask of the column attribute: DS TS
Is it expected behavior?

ThanksThe reason might be that you compare different datatypes in the SQL statement. The output of decode depends on those parameters.
You can cast the column to a specific datatype or you make sure that your wanted datatype is used during the decode.
example
decode(end_date, to_timestamp_tz('31.12.2047', 'dd.mm.yyyy'), null, end_date) closed
or
cast(decode(end_date, to_date('31.12.2047', 'dd.mm.yyyy'), null, end_date) as timestamp(0) with local time zone) closed
