DB2 Table locks after SAP Gui crashes

Hi,
I have a really annoying problem. Since my SAP Gui crashes sometimes, when I have nearly the limit of sessions open, I get serious problems with table locks in DB2.
Background:
When I run a program, which is updating/deleting/inserting data in SAP tables and the SAP Gui crashes, the table entries, which have been processed at that time get locked. So when SAP is then doing the roll back, the locks still exist!
The SAP basis guys have restarted the system for me, when I got this problem before, but it's really annoying, when this happens again...
I mean, of course the SAP gui shouldn't crash, but anyway the locks should be deleted by SAP during roll back, right?
Does anybody know this problem and does anybody know how to solve it without restarting the machine?

true, the SAP Gui is also an issue I have to solve... But anyway the table lock should not occur.
If you think about some other situations, where the process can be interrupted:
- Calling a BAPI synchronous via RFC, which is updating/inserting/deleting table records
- Windows bluescreen
- etc....
Whatever, it is really annoying to be in the need of restarting the system, when a process is going to be interrupted...
Any ideas to this anyone?

SAP GUI Crash and/or hung up

We have an application that emulate the user interaction with SAP application and use SAP GUI scripting (GUI for window) from VB module to interact with SAP application and perform various operations on SAP window. The operation performed during that exercise are inputting values, search a node in tree, search a value in table, input value in a table cell, click on button, send virtual keys to sap window, interacting with context menu etc etc.. Operations that need to perform on SAP GUI are organized into 'tests" and are performed in a serial fashion. A same test (sequence of operations) can be performed any number of times on a given SAP application.
Lately, we have seen that either SAP Gui crashes or become unresponsive at random when a set of operations (test) are being performed iteratively on SAP GUI. The same test executed correctly many times but at random iteration it become completely unresponsive and hung up.
Although, SAP Gui hang up occurred at a random iteration but we've noticed that if there were two sap instances on the machine then this behavior is noticed much earlier and it is almost certain to get to this sate if an ECATT is running in another sap window but still not able to establish a particular pattern and some time same tests were executed correctly in all the above mentioned scenarios. However, when problem occurred, it usually happen just after the operations that have caused SAP GUI to do a server round trip like click on button or scrolling a table etc but still it was quite random and was unable to establish a pattern.
When SAP GUI hung up then not only it becomes completely unresponsive, but it also hung up any application they tries to interact with SAP GUI scripting object. At this point, any attempt to make any references to any scripting object or even a fresh attempt to connect to scripting object model also hung up that application. The only way out at that point is to kill SAP Gui from the task manager and once SAP Gui killed then all application that was previously hang up start to resume execution!
SAP GUI for Window 7.1 patch 7 and path 11 are being used.

You could also reach a point where your backend ABAP instance Kernel version plus SAP-BASIS component will have problems with a unsupported SAP GUI. Your W2's will leverage an Adobe Document Server, ADS, or smart form technology. You will experience rendering issues eventually.
It's a vicious circle of Desktop Office Integration. With Microsoft 8.1 and Microsoft Office 2013 there were a lot correction's pushed out in SAP GUI 7.30.

Can't find the created queries in SQVI after SAP GUI Upgrade

After the upgrade, I can't find anymore the queries in SQVI. The liste is totally emptied...

Thank you for your reply, but the situation didn't change... it's really strange...
We used the same PC to logon with 720, I'm sure that the parameters of SAP GUI are good, everything works correctly except SQVI. No problem with LSMW or SCAT... The most important point, this problem appears on all PC with 720 upgrade! So, it's not a local problem...but we didn't touch anything on server...maybe it was just a coincidence, somebody did something on the server in the same time of SAP GUI Upgrade...
For now, we copied the lost queries from QUALITY (it's not the last version T_T but it's better than nothing!) And we still don't know where is the source of problem.

Deactivate table locks for SAP courses

Hello,
when visiting SAP courses in Walldorf, I observed that it was possible that all participants where able to maintain the same customizing table without getting informed that the table is locked.
How can this behaviour be achived? Usually only one user is able to maintain a table at a time, however, especially for SAP courses it would be great to deactivate this.
Any ideas?

I found this page http://****************/Tutorials/ABAP/Lock/Page1.htm where they explain how to create a special report that will call the customizing view for a specific table in a different mode.
The report will delete the general table lock and create row-based locks (based on key fields) instead, allowing at least several users to work with the same table - as long as they edit entries that have different key fields.
I haven't tried it yet, but it looks promising...

SAP MMC not showing SID after sap gui install and reboot of the server

Hi, after SAPGUI 7.10 install on our server and rebooting of the same, SAP MMC says u201CMMC could not create the snap-inu201D.
We are desperately trying to find a solution. We did the following: Uninstalled the gui.
1) Uninstalled the SAPMMC snap-in
2) Re-installed it with the sapmmc_2-20005866.msi.
3) This automatically created all the required dlls..especially the main ones ..sapmmc.dll, sapstartsrv.exe in c:\WINDOWS\system32
4) Copied librfc32.dll from a working system to c:\WINDOWS\system32 of the system that is having issues
5) Did the registry setup, by doing REGSVR32 sapmmc.dll, and further did sapstartsrv   -t and re-created the service with the following parameters:
    <SID>
    01
   START_D*_hostname
   .\SAPService<SID>
   Password:*****
6) All the services are up and running.
7) Also did a re-boot, just to check if the registry update needed it, for the changes to be active.
Still facing the same issue "SAP MMC could not create the snap-in"

App-V 5 SP1: Error with SAP GUI 7.3

We work on a project to use SAP GUI 7.3 with latest fixes with App-V 5. This works fine so far with the exception of only one transaction in SAP - SWDD. This windows shows no icons on top. After waiting for a while this transaction stops working and SAP
GUI crashes. SAP support says it's an error with App-V. So we tried to find some error with process monitor. We are able to see many of these errors:

The Name not found indicates that it is looking for a registry key (location is the path) and not finding it. That may not be a problem, as it usually traverses multiple locations (HKCU and / or HKLM, native and virtual..).
First question is;
On a machine with SAP installed natively - is there an entry named;
HKLM\Software\Classes\CLSID\{3BE786A0-0366-4F5C-9434-25CF162E475E}\ExtendedErrors
or
HKCU\Software\Classes\CLSID\{3BE786A0-0366-4F5C-9434-25CF162E475E}\ExtendedErrors
If yes, does it exist in the package?

SAP GUI 7.10 PDF toolbar

Hello,
We have a user that recently have updated is SAP GUI for Windows from 6.40 to 7.10
Before this upgrade he could open from SAP Client invoices in PDF format and in the launbched embeded pdf viewer he has some aditional toolbar with buttons that allow him to modify that document. He has installed Adobe Acrobat 9 pro that may allow him to creaste and modify pdf documents.
This aditional toolbar have disappear after SAP GUI for Windows upgrade.
He can save the document from embeded pdf viewer and reopen it with Acrobat 9 pro and then he can see that missing toolbar options.
Does anyone know why now he can't modify, because he has not that aditional toolbar buttons, generated pdf documents from SAP GUI for Windows 7.10?

Problem with 'SAPGUI_PROGRESS_INDICATOR' in SAP GUI 7.10

About session abnormal termination, table locked question.

i test some table lock,after i run this statement:
select * from testt for update nowait;
i abnormal terminate session, then the table testt will be locking until after 20 minutes,
i checked some document, the parameter of SQLNET.EXPIRE_TIME = 5 in sqlnet.ora file can release that lock, i set with 5,and then test again, but still wait 20 minutes the lock can release, why?

I've changed this now to use the URL variable. I am used to using that to go from a results page to a details page where the recordset on the details page is used. I hadn't realised that you could just set a link to:

where there is no recordset on a page, just for the purposes of passing the variable. (Yeah, I know - this is probably really basic!)
I do have one last question on this though - my form action is:

And then the link to a NominationAdded page is in the php code at the top of the AddNomination page:

What would be useful would be to pass the URL variable through again, so that on the NominationAdded page I can have a link back to the same Lodge to add another Nomination without finding the Lodge again.
But I'm not sure what the syntax would be, as it included some PHP within existing PHP, so not just:

I assume this must be possible, but not sure of the exact syntax?

SAP GUI 7.2 Crashing after server selection

I'm having an issue with one of our users. It has been working fine before. Windows 7 32bit. Whenever she selects a server to log in to it just closes out SAPGUI. I have tried reinstalling, updating to the latest patchlevel and removing everything SAP related off the machine. This is only happening to one user. You may be lucky if it installs. By the time Windows 7 came out SAP had de-supported SAP GUI 7.20. The SAPSetup.exe release may not be able to recognize any recently updated Microsoft OS DLLs necessary for installation.
However, I would recommend you check the services file to ensure the necessary ports are correct and that either your local firewall or network firewall isn't blocking any of these ports. This should clear up the error: "Cannot connect to message server".
I can also see there is a permission issue with open, write read with %sfile. Can you ensure this has administrator permission's or permitted to do these activities.

GUI seems to lock, but computer not crashed

II've got a Mac mini 2010 server, that now has 2 x 1TB SSD and 16GB ram (user installed, but , whilst I'm not an expert, it's not the first time I've installed components in a mac). I'm in the process of trying to set it up as a home server, however I've come across a really dod problem.
What happens is that after a period of time (sometimes ten minutes, sometimes twenty, sometimes and hour or so) graphical artefacts appear and then the front end/GUI locks. I can still usually move the mouse, but everything else is frozen. There have also been occasions where I get no artefacts and it just freezes.
There are two things that makes this odd (to me at least).
Firstly, the Mac mini appears to still be functioning behind this GUI crash. For example, if I'm doing a copy operation (as I was last night copying 300 GB of music over) it will still run. Or a YouTube video will continue to play with sound only. And when I SSH in to the mac mini, you can do top and see a list of running processes (note sudo killall [appname] doesn't effect what is displayed on screen and only sometimes kills the processes (I.e. They don't list in the top command anymore).
Secondly, this only happens when I physically interact with the computer for a period of time. If I leave it (not touch it whilst it does the process) copying files or downloading it will happily chug away and not lock up.
I can't see anything significant in the logs, and I've reseated the memory just in case. Am I looking at a graphics card fault here?

An update. Had a look in the logs and found the following. The crash happened at 20:31:21 – I'd completely forgotten I'd written the time down last night.

I'm also noticing that this happens when I am running chrome. Killing it via ssh will see the system return, after a period of time (again could be like 10-20 minutes though).

SAP GUI 7.20 Windows 7 Crash in some Tcode

Hi,
Just suddenly last week my sap gui 7.20 patch level 4 just starting to crash when i run Tcode VA05 with todayu2019s date. no error message is displayed the GUI is just gone.
I get this error i SM21
Connection to user 22243 (XXXXX ), terminal 63 (XXXXXX ) lost. but as i know this is not specific to my error just that the connection is lost without a proper logout.
What i have tried so far uninstall SAP GUI delete the remaining folders, reboot install again with antivirus deactivated. but still the same error.
Anyone with the same problem or know how to fix this?

I have a similar Problem with my GUI and
I also use the SAP GUI 7.20 with patch level 4 on a windows 7 64-bit system.
As soon as i try to start transaction SE80 the GUI is closed without any warnings.
I didn't change anything at the gui config or registry. Last week everything worked fine,
and after booting my system today, i face this problem. I can't remember active if any major windows updates have been made.
I also have installed the gui in my windows xp mode system and it works fine, also with the same patch level. Even installing the older sap gui 7.10 doesn't fix the problem. So it seams to be a windows 7 problem.
I also attached my log from sm21. Would be thankful for every hint.

Regarding locks in SAP ( concurrent access by two reports for a same table)

Hi All,
I have a problem regarding locks. I have designed a report using lock function modules to set locks and release them after the database operations and it works perfectly. There is another report which also does some DB operation on the same table but there are no table locks using enqueue function module implemented in this report and despite of lock set by first report on the table it is able to do the changes on the db table. I need to know how to overcome this problem.

lock procedure requires that all programs involved cooperate. Inconsistencies can occur if a program reads or changes data without having previously locked it. When a lock is set, the data records are only protected against changes by another program if this program also requests a lock before accessing the data.
Please check the above extract from [SAP help|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/cf/21eed9446011d189700000e8322d00/frameset.htm], to maintain data consistency, it must be ensured that all the programs should lock the data before changing.

SAP GUI 7.10 Blank Screen after Export

Hi,
We have an issue with our SAP GUI 7.10 patch level 12. User is trying to export a G/L Balance line item to spreadsheet in tcode FAGLB03. After data is downloaded, SAP GUI screens turns all white/blank. Sometimes the SAP GUI terminates automatically without any error message.

Hello AOT,
just a comment here: Patch 12 is nearly 2 years old and up to the current Patch 20 of SAP GUI 7.10 tons of crashing SAP GUI issue have been fixed. On top of that one should be aware, that version 7.10 of SAP GUI for Windows goes out of maintenance in April 2011.
So wouldn't it be a good idea to check with latest version of SAP GUI for Windows 7.20?
