Dbms_output size limit in child report?

Is there a hard limit on the size of the DBMS_OUTPUT that can be displayed in a CHILD report? If so, can it be increased in a future version?
I have a user defined report that shows active sessions in the top (i.e. master/parent) report. The report has a child tab that show the EXPLAIN plan for the selected SQL statement using DBMS_OUTPUT. It works great unless the Explain Plan is too large, in which case I get an error.
I just tried to duplicate the problem but nothing that is running now generates a plan large enough to hit the limit, which isn't surprising because the limit was pretty large.
The SQL for the Child report is below. Note that is it all in one line because at one time it didn't work if there were embedded newlines in the SQL (I don't know if that is still the case). So, it is ugly, but like I said it works well and is very useful.
DECLARE v_predicate VARCHAR2(200) ; v_sql_hash_value VARCHAR2(100) := :SQL_HASH_VALUE ; v_plan_hash_value VARCHAR2(100) := :PLAN_HASH_VALUE ; v_inst_id VARCHAR2(2) := :INST_ID ; v_child_number VARCHAR2(3) := :SQL_CHILD_NUMBER ; BEGIN v_predicate := 'HASH_VALUE = ' || v_sql_hash_value || ' and PLAN_HASH_VALUE = ' || v_plan_hash_value || ' and INST_ID = ' || v_inst_id || ' and CHILD_NUMBER = ' || v_child_number ; dbms_output.put_line( '<pre>' ) ; FOR nxt IN ( SELECT substr(plan_table_output, 1, 255) as rec FROM table (DBMS_XPLAN.DISPLAY( 'GV$SQL_PLAN', null, 'ALL', v_predicate ) ) ) LOOP dbms_output.put_line( nxt.rec ) ; END LOOP ; dbms_output.put_line( '</pre>' ) ; END ;

What database version?
The default size of the buffer for dbms_output used to be limited in the database. it may be that you are hitting that.
What is the error message?

    Hi,
    I hope you can send 2MB ,if your getting any error try to increase rows in your instanceconfig.xml file kindly do the below things
    You need to increase the size and need to include one tag in instanceconfig.xml to increase the size and restart the presentation services.
    by default delivers will send only 250 records.
    take a original backup and the do it
    insert the following code into instanceconfig.xml.

  • Child Report Window Size XI 3.0 SP2

    Hi All,
    I know that you can do this in javascript, i.e. create a child window of a smaller size when clicking a hyper link, I think the parameters called window.resizeTo(X,Y).
    I know there is no BO supported open doc parameter for this, but was wondering whether anyone had got this to work, some how .
    Idea being, the ability to spawn pop up Windows, containing metadata or hsitory about a selected KPI, without losing visibility of the parent report.
    Cheers,
    Mark.

    Hi Suresh,
    Thanks for the response.
    I have already done the linking, that is not the problem.
    The question is the ability to resize the child window, i.e. so the child report part does not fill up the whole screen.
    I believe that without a custom jsp page that this is not possible. If someone has done this, via jsp, from within BOXI, maybe they could respond and let me know the method.
    If you know any different, let me know....
    Cheers,
    Mark.

  • Dbms_output in child report

    Hi,
    I've been trying to create a report with a child report of type "dbms_output" which does not seem to be working.
    The child report by itself (in another report) works correctly, but if it's the child of any other one it doesn't. I have tried both using bind variables and without using them.
    The message I get is the typical syntax error even when the code is somethin as simple as this:
    begin
    dbms_output.put_line('Hello');
    end;
    Perhaps I just didn't find some very simple option, but it looks like a issue with reports to me.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    > For me (WinXP SP2, 10gR2, 12.1 - 32.13) it doesn't made difference...
    Both worked.
    I have this report:
    Master Name: dept
    Master Style: Table
    SQL:
    select deptno
         , dname
         , loc
      from dept
    order by deptno
    Child Type: Detail
    Child Name: dbms_test
    Child Style: plsql-dbms_output
    SQL:
    begin dbms_output.put_line(:DNAME); end;No other report attributes are set.
    This version works fine. But if I change child SQL to
    begin
    dbms_output.put_line(:DNAME);
    end;I get
    ORA-06550: line 1, column 6
    PLS-00103 found '' but expected one of the following:...and the same messages for line 2, column 30.
    WinXP SP2 (czech), 10g rel.10.2.0.3.0, SQLDev 1.2.1.32.13.
    Could you compare my and your report attributes, please? Thanks.

  • How do I change the attachment size limit in Calendar Server 6.3, UWC, IWC?

    How do I properly increase or decrease the attachment size limit with Calendar Server and all supported user interfaces to it such as WCAP, UWC (Communications Express) and IWC (Convergence)? From my experience with the Outlook Connector, there seems to be some limit imposed by cshttpd on the size of a file upload (I believe I actually got an HTTP error code back on the wcap request indicating something was too big, sorry I don't have it handy, I'll have to re-test). Additionally, it seems UWC imposes additional limits (Example: http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-4440/6n6jfgcjh?l=en&a=view&q=fileSizeHardLimit) but I can't seem to get those to work at all. I found many different web.xml related to UWC and I'm not sure which one to change, I tried a couple but had no success because UWC would always report this error if I uploaded between 4-5 megs: com.iplanet.jato.util.WrapperRuntimeException
    Root cause = [java.io.IOException: Request cancelled because file input field
    "importFile" size is over the configurable limit of 4194304 bytes; see filter init
    parameter fileSizeHardLimit]
    And it would complain about requestSizeLimit I think if it was over 5 megs, claiming that limit was 5242880. IWC gives a generic error when the upload is too big and rejects it.
    I fear that a 4 meg limit will be too imposing and of limited value, so I would either like to raise it, or consider lowering it to 0 bytes so attachments cannot be used at all. I have been looking high and low for information on how to do this and all I can find is the UWC examples. I plan to support the Outlook Connector, UWC, and IWC so the limits should ideally be the same across each. Some of the Exchange data we wish to import does have some attachments so it would be good to continue support for that. I did see some other posts about quota RFEs but at this point I am not concerned about the disk consumption. Can anyone help? Thanks. Please let me know if there is any more information I can provide. I am running SCS6u1 on Solaris 10 SPARC.

    Fred@egr wrote:
    Thanks!!! This is working with IWC and I am pretty sure it will work with Outlook. I didn't think to look at config options for mshttpd since I don't have it installed and ics.conf doesn't list the http.service.maxmessagesize and service.http.maxpostsize by default.http.service.maxmessagesize is only relevant to mshttpd, not cshttpd. service.http.maxpostsize applies to both.
    UWC is still limiting me though; I'm sure I can reconfigure UWC if I just know which file to edit and if I need to redeploy anything. I'm using the same install paths as the SCS6 Single Host example and I'm not sure which the "uwc-deployed-path" is supposed to be. Again, thanks.If you have deployed UWC/CE to Application Server you would edit the following file and restart application-server:
    /opt/SUNWappserver/domains/domain1/generated/xml/j2ee-modules/Communications_Express/web.xml

  • LabView RT FTP file size limit

    I have created a few very large AVI video clips on my PXIe-8135RT (LabView RT 2014).  When i try to download these from the controller's drive to a host laptop (Windows 7) with FileZilla, the transfer stops at 1GB (The file size is actually 10GB).
    What's going on?  The file appears to be created correctly and I can even use AVI2 Open and AVI2 Get Info to see that the video file contains the frames I stored.  Reading up about LVRT, there is nothing but older information which claim the file size limit is 4GB, yet the file was created at 10GB using the AVI2 VIs.
    Thanks,
    Robert

    As usual, the answer was staring me right in the face.  FileZilla was reporting the size in an odd manner and the file was actually 1GB.  The vi I used was failing.  After fixing it, it failed at 2GB with error -1074395965 (AVI max file size reached).

  • Child reports for a PL/SQL Parent?

    Hi forum,
    I would like to create a parent-child report based on a given package.
    Unfortunately I (guess I )need to have a PL/SQL DBMS Output parent, and I'm searching to create a child based on some rows of this.
    a slightly simplified example:
    I have a type and a package with a procedure & function (I can not change the package):
    create or replace TYPE         SimpleStringArrayType AS TABLE OF VARCHAR2(2000);
    create or replace PACKAGE  MyPackage AS
    procedure get_filelist(vReturnArray OUT SimpleStringArrayType);
    function get_file(filename in varchar2) return clob;
    My idea is to get a list of filenames with procedure get_filelist in the parent report, and in the child report I show the content of the file according to function get_file.
    the current PL/SQL script is (simplified)
    DECLARE
      VRETURNARRAY SimpleStringArrayType;
      v_cnt number:=0;
    BEGIN
      dbms_output.put_line('<html><body>');
      GET_filelist(vReturnArray => VRETURNARRAY);
      v_cnt:=VRETURNARRAY.count;
      dbms_output.put_line('<br>');
      dbms_output.put_line('<table>');
      dbms_output.put_line('<tr> <th><th>file</th>');
      for i in VRETURNARRAY.first..VRETURNARRAY.last loop
        dbms_output.put_line('  <tr>');
        dbms_output.put_line('<td> ' || VRETURNARRAY(i) || ' </td> ');
        dbms_output.put_line('  </tr>');
      end loop;
      dbms_output.put_line('</table></body></html>');
    END;
    again, I can't change get_filelist to a function.
    Any suggestion is highly welcome!
    Martin

    And syntax (basic or otherwise) is covered in the pl/sql manual:

  • Is there a practical size limit on JPEG format image files?

    I have noticed when working with Photoshop v7.0 on Windows XP that, when creating a JPEG format image file from a very large scanned image (more than 800 Mb, maybe), the .jpg file will usually be saved on disk at any of the possible compression ratios available, without any reported error, yet when the saved file is re-opened, an error is reported - something along the lines of "missing or corrupted end of file marker" - and the image cannot be loaded.
    If before saving the original image is substantially reduced in size, e.g. by reducing the resolution of the image, a viable JPEG format file can be created, which will subsequently load successfully, though technically with data loss.
    This appears to happen only with JPEG format files - PDF format files can be saved from the original image at similar JPEG compression ratios, without error on reloading.
    I do not know if this also occurs with any other Photoshop versions.  I am working with Adobe Photoshop v7.0 on Windows XP, although we are preparing to upgrade to CS (which version I don't know) in the near future, for different reasons to those which are detailed above.
    Does anyone know if there is a technical explanation for this behaviour?  Is there a file size limit for writing viable JPEG files (which Photoshop does not report as an error when exceeded)?
    Thanks

    Chris Cox wrote:

    that's what I gathered from "JPEG cannot [...] in Photoshop (code difficult to replace)".
    But if you say this is in the works right now, that's good news indeed.

  • Procedure varchar2 parameter size limit? ORA-6502 Numeric or value error

    Hi ALL,
    I am trying to create out parameters in a Procedure. This procedure will be called by 4 other Procedures.
    PROCEDURE create_serv_conf_attn_cc_email
    ( v_pdf_or_text varchar2,
    v_trip_number number ,

    v_multi_email_addresses out varchar2,
    v_multi_copy_email_addresses out varchar2
    When I call that procedure in another Procedure I am getting following error, which is caused by one of the out parameter being more than 255 characters.
    I found that out via dbms_output.put_line(ing) one of the out parameter as I increased its size.
    ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error
    I thought there was no size limit on any parameters passed to a Procedure.
    Any one know of this limit of 255 characters on varchar2 Procedure parameters? Is there a work around keeping the same logic?
    If not I will have to take those parameters out and resort to some global varchar2s which I do not like.

    Yes,
    You can also go for a 10046 event tracing...
    ACCEPT sid PROMPT 'Enter SID: '
    ACCEPT serial PROMPT 'Enter SERIAL#: '
    ACCEPT action PROMPT 'Enter TRUE or FALSE: '
    EXEC sys.DBMS_SYSTEM.SET_SQL_TRACE_IN_SESSION(&sid,&serial,&action);
    prompt Trace &action for &sid,&serial
    exec DBMS_SYSTEM.SET_EV(10,20,10046,12,”);
    Then you can check your dump file and see whcih events are higher......

  • Book of Reports attachment sizes in the Explore Report Repository

    Does anyone know if there's a file size limit for attachments that can be added to a book of reports? We are on version 11.1.1.3.5. Our business units each have a book of reports that they run each month for their reporting packages. Each month, they attach supplemental information (pdf's) to the books (so they are opening the book in editor mode and attaching the pdf's). When trying to run the book using 'Complete book in PDF', it sometimes just doesn't work and the users will receive an HTTP error or it will say 'Unable to Process Request'. What we've found is that the attachments they are including in the book are sometimes too large because as soon as they remove them, or break them up into smaller attachments, the book runs fine.

    Looking at your options then the smartview route look spretty slick if possible and we've certainly delivered a smaller scale pack to that.
    The bursting does not allow for excel that I am aware of, so exporting mght need to happen.
    What about using the Essbase excel add-in and then VBA to automate, not sure if it is an option for you.
    Hope this helps

    Can anyone tell me if there is a limit on the size of a data item that you can retrieve into a report column. I have in the back of my mind that there is a limit of either 30k or 32k but I can't find it documented anywhere.
    Many thanks.

    Hi Everyone;
    I am running advanced analysis reports on HANA as datasource and I am getting the message Size Limit of Result Set Exceeded whenever I have a larger output. I have noticed that in the admin guide and in other SCN posts about this setting in Windows Registry:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\SAP\AdvancedAnalysis\Settings\DataSource]
    "ShowBicsSample"="True"
    "ResultSetSizeLimit"="-1"
    But I am having hard time finding this setting in my windows registry; can someone help me understand why I don't have it in my registry? and how to find it and change this setting?
    FYI...I am using Office 2010.

  • Lite 10g DB File Size Limit

    Hello, everyone !
    I know, that Oracle Lite 5.x.x had a database file size limit = 4M per a db file. There is a statement in the Oracle® Database Lite 10g Release Notes, that db file size limit is 4Gb, but it is "... affected by the operating system. Maximum file size allowed by the operating system". Our company uses Oracle Lite on Windows XP operating system. XP allows file size more than 4Gb. So the question is - can the 10g Lite db file size exceed 4Gb limit ?
    Regards,
    Sergey Malykhin

    I don't know how Oracle Lite behave on PocketPC, 'cause we use it on Win32 platform. But ubder Windows, actually when .odb file reaches the max available size, the Lite database driver reports about I/O error ... after the next write operation (sorry, I just don't remember exact error message number).
    Sorry, I'm not sure what do you mean by "configure the situation" in this case ...

    Hi,
      If you are using Business Objects XIR2, there is a performance parameter in the Web_Intelligence Report Server where you can increase the size of that file. The parameter is Maximun Character File Size. Go to the CMC>Server>server.Web_IntelligenceReportServer in the Properties tab you will see it.
