Dealing with complex beans

Hi there!
I'm developing an app in NetBeans that has a 'complex' object/backing bean structure. For example a CalculationBean has an ArrayList of ProductBeans.
How can I make it so that the user tells how many Products he wants in the Calculation, after that the application creates the Beans, and shows the productForm bound to them? ( Also, is it possible to show the productForm-s on the same page, created dynamically? )
Any help will be appreciated!
Daniel

I would also suggest Tomahawk's dataList component, if dataTable is not to your liking.

  • Custom finders in CMP dealing with BMP Beans as parameters

    Hi all,
    I need to create a custome finder method in a CMP Bean which has a parameter of type EJBLocalHome which is a BMP bean that has been already built. The problem is, I can't understand how to write the EJB-QL part of the finder. I will give some examples of my situation :
    CMP Finder definition :
    findByCustomer(CustomerLocal customer);
    The CMP bean which I want the finder to be implemented has a CMP field for the Customer's primary key which is of type Integer. But, I need to pass a CustomerLocal object to the finder. How can I write a EJB-QL to this situation ?
    Is there any known patterns for CMP-BMP relationships...?
    Thanks.
    Indy.

    Hi,
    Your first point is, I think, is out of the question because, if you call a business method, then the bean will be loaded. That will lose the sole purpose of finders.
    Second Point : There may be situations or projects that have to deal with CMP as well as BMP Beans together in a single project for reasons like the BMP beans coming from an already existing development. So, I can't really agree on your point saying that our design is questionable. We had to do it because, we had no other alternatives like changing all the BMP's into CMP's..
    So, still my question seems to be unanswered....!!!!!!
    Thanks anyway,
    Indy.

  • Dealing with complex rules - best practice?

    hello,
    I am currently involved in a project to develop BRFplus rules for a new social security benefit.
    some ofd the legislation is complex. for example:
    if ( A = true) AND ( (B = true) OR (C = true) OR (D = true) OR ( (E = true) AND (F= true)) ) then
       Result = true
    Else
       Result = false
    Endif
    My question is, what is the best/most efficient way of developing this rule?
    is it to develop one rule with a very complex condition?
    what are the alternative/preffered approaches?
    Thanx in advance.

    You can create "named" rules for each sub-rule (the condition A, B, C,...) and then use them in a master rule. This would improve the readability and hence maintenance by breaking the complexity down into simpler modules and would also let you re-use the sub-rules at other places.

  • How to deal with complex SOAP responses when calling web services ???

    Hi all,
    I have an issue when calling a web service that returns a complex
    SOAP response message. With simple responses (e. g. array of strings) it
    worked.
    I created the PDF as an Interactive form with Livecycle Designer 8.2.
    The Javascript looks like this:
    var cURL = "http://blabla";
    var cTestString = "too";
    SOAP.wireDump=true;
    var response = SOAP.request(
         cURL: cURL,
         oRequest: {
              "http://blabla.com/:complete" : {
              arg0: cTestString
              cAction: "http://bla.com:50000/"
    var resp = response["http://blabla.com:serviceResponse"];
    console.println("lenght:"+resp.length);
    var myns = "http://blabla.com/namespace";
    for (var nItem in resp.return)
      console.println("" + nItem + " " + resp.return[nItem] );
         for (var ConceptView in resp.return[nItem])
           console.println("  "+resp.return[nItem].length);
           console.println("  "+ConceptView+" "+resp.return[nItem][ConceptView] );
           if (ConceptView == myns + ":Response")
              for (var item2 in resp.return[nItem][ConceptView]){
                  console.println("    "+item2+" "+resp.return[nItem][ConceptView][item2] );
    I call the service and when I realized that I do not find out the type of the object returned, I used the nested for-in-loops to iterate through it. But it seems that there is just one item in the Javascript object returned, although the SOAP message clearly shows that there are more than one item.
    Can you help me?
    One key problem when analyzing this issue is that I do not know at all
    the Javascript type of response. We suspected it might be an array, but it is not
    because the method .length returns "undefined". It would already be
    helpful to know at least the type of this object and to know callable
    methods and so on ...
    Best regards
    Christoph
    P.S. As mentioned I used Livecycle Designer 8.2 and displayed and
    debugged the document using Acrobat 9.

    Christoph,
    Firstly LiveCycle Designer 8.2 is still not supported to develop forms as per my knowledge. The latest version compatible for SAP Interactive Forms is ALD 8.0.
    There is a difference between Acrobat based forms and LiveCycle forms and based on your coding it looks to me  that you are trying to create a LiveCycle based form with coding of Acrobat which is not supported in LiveCycle Desginer, which is why you may be getting the error.
    I hope that does not confuse you, so may check this [link|http://www.acrobatusers.com/articles/2006/08/designer_or_forms/index.php] for some clear information on what point I was trying to make.

  • Web service data control with complex input parameter problem

    Hi!
    I'm making ADF web app, using JDev 11.1.1.2.0. I have to call a web service (using a data control), which has complex input parameter (array of complex objects).
    I followed steps from Susan Duncan blog: http://susanduncan.blogspot.com/2006/09/dealing-with-complex-input-params-in.html , but I ran into a problem.
    As Susan wrote, I changed submit's button action binding to an operation in a managed bean, which returns array of objects and everything works fine. I can call a WS and my table shows the result.
    The problem is, that after I change button's action binding to my manage bean, row selection in result table doesn't work anymore (I allways get NullPointerException).
    What can be done here?
    Can somebody please help?

    Hi,
    I also have similar type of problem where I need to invoke a Web service with Complex input parameters.
    I followed Susan's blog but I stuck at a point where methos getItem is created.
    Can anyone tell me how to get that method for my requirement.
    If possible can you guys share your solutions here.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Little help with complex XML data as data provider for chart and adg

    Hi all,
    I've been trying to think through a problem and Im hoping for
    a little help. Here's the scenario:
    I have complex nested XML data that is wrapped by subsequent
    groupings for efficiency, but I need to determine if each inner
    item belongs in the data collection for view in a data grid and
    charts.
    I've posted an example at the bottom.
    So the goal here is to first be able to select a single
    inspector and then chart out their reports. I can get the data to
    filter from the XMLListCollection using a filter on the first layer
    (ie the name of the inspector) but then can't get a filter to go
    deeper into the structure in order to determine if the individual
    item should be contained inside the collection. In other words, I
    want to filter by inspector, then time and then tag name in order
    to be able to use this data as the basis for individual series
    inside my advanced data grid and column chart.
    I've made it work with creating a new collection and then
    looping through each time there is a change to the original
    collection and updating the new collection, but that just feels so
    bloated and inefficient. The user is going to have some buttons to
    allow them to change their view. I'm wondering if there is a
    cleaner way to approach this? I even tried chaining filter
    functions together, but that didn't work cause the collection is
    reset whenever the .refresh() is called.
    If anyone has experience in efficiently dealing with complex
    XML for charting purposes and tabular display purposes, I would
    greatly appreciate your assistance. I know I can get this to work
    with a bunch of overhead, but I'm seeking something elegant.
    Thank you.

    ENDIF.
          ENDLOOP.
          SOURCE_PACKAGE[] = IT_SOURCE_PACKAGE[].
        ENDIF.

  • Best practice for dealing with Recordsets

    Hi all,
    I'm wondering what is best practice for dealing with data retrieved via JDBC as Recordsets without involving third part products such as Hibernate etc. I've been told to NOT use RecordSets throughout in my applications since they are taking up resources and are expensive. I'm wondering which collection type is best to convert RecordSets into. The apps I'm building are webbased using JSPs as presentation layer, beans and servlets.
    Many thanks
    Erik

    There is no requirement that DAO's have a direct mapping to Database Tables. One of the advantages of the DAO pattern is that the business layer isn't directly aware of the persistence layer. If the joined data is used in the business code as if it were an unnormalized table, then you might want to provide a DAO for the joined data. If the joined data provides a subsiduray object within some particular object, you might add the access method to the DAO for the outer object.
    eg:
    In a user permissioning system where:
    1 user has many userRoles
    1 role has many userRoles
    1 role has many rolePermissions
    1 permission has many rolePermissions
    ie. there is a many to many relationship between users and roles, and between roles and permissions.
    The administrator needs to be able to add and delete permissions for roles and roles for users, so the crud for the rolePermissions table is probably most useful in the RoleDAO, and the crud for the userRoles table in the UserDAO. DOA's also can call each other.
    During operation the system needs to be able to get all permissions for a user at login, so the UserDAO should provide a readPermissions method that does a rather complex join across the user, userRole, rolePermission and permission tables..
    Note that f the system I just described were done with LDAP, a Hierarchical database or an Object database, the userRoles and rolePermissions tables wouldn't even exist, these are RDBMS artifacts since relational databases don't understand many to many relationships. This is good reason to avoid providing DAO's that give access to those tables.

  • What's the best way to deal with floating point errors?

    What's the best way to deal with the decimal number errors in Flex?
    Lets say I have:
    var number1:Number = 1.1;
    var number2:Number = 1;
    var result:Number = number1 - number2;
    trace(result);
    I get "0.10000000000000009".
    What's the best way to deal with this so that i get the right result?
    Using the trick: result = Math.round( result * Math.pow(10,13) ) / Math.pow(10,13); is not useful as such when using big numbers.
    For example, If number1 = 100000000001.1, and number2 = 0.2, I get "100000000000.90001" as result. The previous rounding fixes rounding errors after 13th decimal, but here the first rounding errors come after 4 digits.
    The toPrecision method in Number and NumberFormatter dont seem be of use by themselves because of the same reason.
    So I'd have to check how big the number is, and then round the number based on that.
    So far I've constructed a method that does that with logarithms like this:
    public function floatFix(number:Number):Number{
          var precision:int = 14-Math.floor(Math.log(Math.abs(number))*Math.LOG10E);
          var precisionFactor:Number = Math.pow(10, precision);
          return Math.round(Number(number*precisionFactor))/precisionFactor;
    It just seems rather odd that one would have to create and use something like that to just count 1.1-1; There's a lot of calculating in that method, and i'm guessing that having to use that in a loop could slow down a program quite a bit.
    I think there really should be a pre-built method in flex for something like this, but I can't find any.
    Anyone know any better/faster ways?

    Use the application server database pooling services to create a datasource that can be access using JNDI.
    Move the database access code to a Servlet so that a JSP submits a form to the Servlet that does the database access and packages the data into a bean which is passed to another JSP to be displayed.

  • How to deal with Memory Leaks, that are caused by Binding

    Hi, I recently noticed (huge?) memory leaks in my application and suspect bindings to be the cause of all the evil.
    I made a little test case, which confirms my suspicion:
    import javafx.application.Application;
    import javafx.beans.property.SimpleStringProperty;
    import javafx.beans.property.StringProperty;
    import javafx.scene.Scene;
    import javafx.scene.control.Button;
    import javafx.scene.layout.VBox;
    import javafx.stage.Stage;
    public class TestAppMemoryLeak extends Application {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            launch(args);
        @Override
        public void start(Stage stage) throws Exception {
            VBox root = new VBox();
            Button button = null;
            for (int i = 0; i < 100000; i++) {
                button = new Button();
                button.textProperty().bind(text);
                button.textProperty().unbind(); // if you don't call this, you can notice the increased memory of the java process.
            root.getChildren().add(button);
            Scene scene = new Scene(root);
            stage.setScene(scene);
            stage.show();
        private StringProperty text = new SimpleStringProperty("test");
    }Now the problem is, HOW can I know, when a variable is no longer needed or overwritten by a new instance.
    Just an example:
    I have a ListView with a Cell Factory. In the updateItem method, I add a ContextMenu. The textProperty of each MenuItem is bound to a kind of global property, like in the example above. I have to do it in the updateItem method, since the ContextMenu differs depending on the item.
    So every time the updateItem method is called a new ContextMenu is created, which binds some properties, but the old context menus remain in memory.
    I guess there could be many more example.
    How can I deal with it?

    I've dealt with this situation and created a Jira issue for it, but I also have a work-around that is a bit unwieldy but works. I'll share it with you.
    The bug that deals with this (in part atleast): http://javafx-jira.kenai.com/browse/RT-20616
    The solution is to use weak invalidation listeners, however they are a bit of a pain to use as you cannot do it with something simplistic as "bindWeakly"... and you need to keep a reference around to the wrapped listener otherwise it will just get garbage collected immediately (as it is only weakly referenced). Some very odd bugs can surface if weak listeners disappear randomly because you forgot to reference them :)
    Anyway, see this code below, it shows you some code that is called from a TreeCell's updateItem method (I've wrapped it in some more layers in my program, but it is essentially the same as an updateItem method):
    public class EpisodeCell extends DuoLineCell implements MediaNodeCell {
      private final WeakBinder binder = new WeakBinder();
      @Override
      public void configureCell(MediaNode mediaNode) {
        MediaItem item = mediaNode.getMediaItem();
        StringBinding episodeRange = MapBindings.selectString(mediaNode.dataMapProperty(), Episode.class, "episodeRange");
        binder.unbindAll();
        binder.bind(titleProperty(), MapBindings.selectString(mediaNode.dataMapProperty(), Media.class, "title"));
        binder.bind(ratingProperty(), MapBindings.selectDouble(mediaNode.dataMapProperty(), Media.class, "rating").divide(10));
        binder.bind(extraInfoProperty(), Bindings.when(episodeRange.isNull()).then(new SimpleStringProperty("Special")).otherwise(episodeRange));
        binder.bind(viewedProperty(), item.viewedProperty());
        subtitleProperty().set("");
    }This code makes use of a class called WeakBinder -- it is a helper class that can make Weak bindings and can keep track of them. When you call unbindAll() on it, all of the bindings it created before are released immediately (although they will also disappear when the Cell itself is garbage collected, which is possible because it only makes weak references).
    I've tested this extensively and it solves the problem of Cells keeping references to objects with much longer life cycles (in my case, the MediaNode passed in has a longer lifecycle than the cells and so it is important to bind weakly to it). Before this would create huge memory leaks (crashing my program within a minute if you kept refreshing the Tree)... now it survives hours atleast and the Heap usage stays in a fixed range which means it is correctly able to collect all garbage).
    The code for WeakBinder is below (you can consider it public domain, so use it as you see fit, or write your own):
    package hs.mediasystem.util;
    import java.util.ArrayList;
    import java.util.HashMap;
    import java.util.List;
    import java.util.Map;
    import javafx.beans.InvalidationListener;
    import javafx.beans.Observable;
    import javafx.beans.WeakInvalidationListener;
    import javafx.beans.property.Property;
    import javafx.beans.value.ObservableValue;
    public class WeakBinder {
      private final List<Object> hardRefs = new ArrayList<>();
      private final Map<ObservableValue<?>, WeakInvalidationListener> listeners = new HashMap<>();
      public void unbindAll() {
        for(ObservableValue<?> observableValue : listeners.keySet()) {
          observableValue.removeListener(listeners.get(observableValue));
        hardRefs.clear();
        listeners.clear();
      public <T> void bind(final Property<T> property, final ObservableValue<? extends T> dest) {
        InvalidationListener invalidationListener = new InvalidationListener() {
          @Override
          public void invalidated(Observable observable) {
            property.setValue(dest.getValue());
        WeakInvalidationListener weakInvalidationListener = new WeakInvalidationListener(invalidationListener);
        listeners.put(dest, weakInvalidationListener);
        dest.addListener(weakInvalidationListener);
        property.setValue(dest.getValue());
        hardRefs.add(dest);
        hardRefs.add(invalidationListener);
    }Let me know if this solves your problem.

  • What's the deal with the video format?

    Hello! What is the deal with the video format? Does it mean I have to code the videos for 640*480 ? It won't accept any other size? What size do I need to select for widescreen format?
    With Quicktime pro I've been able to encode videos with a very nice resolution and small size, then try to synch them to the ipod touch and then the error, it can't be played. I use the .mov format, I like it more but if I have to use .mp4 then I'll use it.
    Thanks for the help!

    According to Apple's Specification, these are your video choices
    H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats.
    H.264 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 3.0 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats.
    MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats.

  • Working with complex data types in web services ...

    Hi All,
    I have created a webservice and created an interface for that in ADF. Now as my web service returns a complex data type, i followed the steps given in this article "http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/howtos/1013/wsadf/adfcomplexwstypes.html" and it works fine, my results also get displayed. But only issue is i get a warning "JBO-25009: Cannot create an object of type:java.util.calendar with value:2008-09-23T23:51:30.000+05:30" and if i replace all the java.util.Date with oracle.jbo.domain.Date then i get a warning "JBO-25009: Cannot create an object of type:oracle.jbo.domain.Date with value:2008-09-23T23:51:30.000+05:30". Now i am unable to understand this although i believe it is a data type mapping issue, but not sure how to rectify it.
    Anybody knows the wayout?
    Regards
    Lokesh

    Andre,
    Thanks for youe response. I also tried makeing data type as string in place of date in data control.xml and it worked fine. So it confirms that i am facing with exactly similar issue as yours.
    I tried solution 2 mentioned in Frank's mail but its not helping[in fact i am already using web proxy as i am delaing with complex data types]. I created a web proxy and in java bean i placed break points to check the control flow[in order to check the root cause] but control never reaches the java bean!! I am not sure about the cause for it...control should pass through java bean isn't it??
    I am quite new to SOA...so can somebody just elaborate on how to rectify this using web proxy. I have been using this rl "http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/howtos/1013/wsadf/adfcomplexwstypes.html" to work with web proxies" to work with proxies.

  • Dealing with abstract classes and interfaces with XMLBeans

    I'm quite new to XMLBeans and would like some help. I've got things working when
    you are only saving concreate classes as XML, but when it comes to clesses containing
    interfaces I am running into problems.
    I basically have a collection of XY objects (see below) that I want to save as
    XML.
    I want to convert the following java classes to an xml schema:
    public class XY{
    X x;
    Y y;
    public interface X{
    void setA(int a);
    int getA();
    public interface Y{
    void setB(int b);
    int getB();
    public class X1 implements X{
    void setA(int a);
    int getA();
    //other data to save
    public class X2 implements X{
    void setA(int a);
    int getA();
    //other data to save
    public class Y1 implements Y{
    void setB(int b);
    int getB();
    //other data to save
    public class Y2 implements Y{
    void setB(int b);
    int getB();
    //other data to save
    What would be the best way to convert these to XML Schema? I've looked through
    all the XMLBeans documentation, but it doesn't say anything about dealing with
    interfaces/abstract classes. Is there anywhere else to look?
    Thanks in advance,
    Andrew

    Andrew,
    Could you please paste/attach a sample of the code you are using to convert
    Java bean classes to XMLBeans?
    In the current release the goal of XMLBeans technology was to convert
    from
    XML Schemas or XML files to XMLBeans. The focus was not towards conversion
    of Java beans to XMLBeans.

    I'm quite new to XMLBeans and would like some help. I've got thingsworking when
    you are only saving concreate classes as XML, but when it comes toclesses
    containing
    interfaces I am running into problems.
    I basically have a collection of XY objects (see below) that I wantto
    save as
    XML.
    I want to convert the following java classes to an xml schema:
    public class XY{
    X x;
    Y y;
    public interface X{
    void setA(int a);
    int getA();
    public interface Y{
    void setB(int b);
    int getB();
    public class X1 implements X{
    void setA(int a);
    int getA();
    //other data to save
    public class X2 implements X{
    void setA(int a);
    int getA();
    //other data to save
    public class Y1 implements Y{
    void setB(int b);
    int getB();
    //other data to save
    public class Y2 implements Y{
    void setB(int b);
    int getB();
    //other data to save
    What would be the best way to convert these to XML Schema? I've lookedthrough
    all the XMLBeans documentation, but it doesn't say anything about dealingwith
    interfaces/abstract classes. Is there anywhere else to look?
    Thanks in advance,
    Andrew

  • Strategies for dealing with large forms

    I've created a dynamic form that is about 30 pages long. Although performance in reader is OK, when editing, every change takes about 10 seconds to be digested by Designer. I've tried editing parts and then copying them across, but formatting information seems to be lost when pasting.
    What are the practical limits to how long a form can be, and are there any suggestions for how to deal with longer forms?
    Many thanks
    Alex

    Performance may be okay in Reader 8, but a 30-page dynamic form will probably by unusable in Reader 7. I have done work with very large forms before, and I have maintained each page in a separate XDP and then brought them together once all the kinks are worked out. I don't know why you would be losing formatting information.
    There is a technique that I have used where you use dynamic subforms to show only one page of the form at a time. That approach allows a very large form to be used in version 7 with acceptable response time. However, it's a very complex approach, and I have come to think that it's too complex for comfort. The more complex your approach is the more likely it is to fail in a future version of Reader.

  • How to deal with relation

    Hi
    I am trying to import two beans(TestBean and HelperBean)into my Web Dynpro project to create a model. These beans are dealing with a List(ArrayList). This List is considered as a Relation. I am facing problem in handling this relation.
    I am having both the TestBean and HelperBean in the same package. Below is the code of TestBean. This bean is in turn calling HelperBean ,which is returning a List.
    I am getting an error while creating model -
    <b>[Error]: There are one or more relations unresolved. Importing the model without resolvoing the relations might result in erratic output.</b>
    <u><b>Code For TestBean</b></u>
    public class TestBean implements Serializable{
         private List customerList= null;
         HelperBean helper = new HelperBean();
              public void execute(){
              try{
                                            customerList = (ArrayList)helper.getCustomerList();
                   catch(Exception ex){
                        ex.printStackTrace();
          * @return
         public List getCustomerList() {
              return customerList;
          * @param list
         public void setCustomerList(List list) {
              customerList = list;
    I am new to Web Dynpro and don't know how to deal with relation.Please inform if there is some solution.
    regards,
    Sujit

    Sujit,
    Not every bean becomes model class during import. So your HelperBean is irrelevant here. But you miss other bean, namely Customer bean. You must add it as model class during import, then select problematic 0..n relation and resolve it to model class Customer.
