Declaratively adding a custom component

I have extended a OAFlowLayout bean. When I add a region, the region style can be stated declaratively in the properties of the region. I would like my region to be added to that list. I imagine that I am extending JDeveloper and what it shows in the dropdown list that is displayed. I am wondering what I need to do so my component can be added to that list and used.

The requirement is to have tabs underneath the subTabLayout. It is understood that subtabs nested in subtabs are not allowed. My current solution is to subclass a layout and add the component programically. The number of tabs can be variable. Any ideas on how to do this is appriciated.

Daryl

I want to add this component in Datagrid. I have tried a lot on net. I didn't find any help. I read books as well.
Please help me. I found somewhere on the site one liner answer : write grid renderer. I don't how to write grid renderer and pass the data values to it.
I will be more thank full someone gives me pointer to sample grid renderer or code.

Do you want to pop-up a JSP in a window to prompt the user for extra information before submitting the check-in form? If so, you need a custom component to override the resource that draws the "submit" button on the form.
Or, do you want to execute something like a web service during the check-in process? If so, do a validateStandard filter. See the 'DynamicPrefix' comonent in the howtocomponents:

• Adding a Custom Component to Check-In Operation

Hi everyone,
Our technical knowledge is very basic in UCM and ECM.
We are trying to add a JSP component which must have some interaction with the user just before a Check-in operation which should be consumed in the client's web browser.
Can anyone please point me in the right directions for creating such a schema. We are learning stuff such as Custom Components, Component Wizard, presentation of UCM data through JSON, JSP components, Dynamic Server Pages. We have found the product amazing so far just like every other Fusion Middleware product.
But still it is too early for us to decide what we should go with. Any info would be so much appreciated. I thought we could try a trigger before a Check-in operation through Content Profile, which would open a custom JSP added to UCM as a custom component. But it is very in-mature as you can point out.
Thanks.

• Component property declaration in a Custom Component

Hello everyone,
I have a question related to a custom component. I will define a use case and how I want to define a property.
e.g.: I develop a custom component using Flex Library Project, with all manifest.xml, design.xml, locale etc. My component name is CustomList, now in this component, I define a property with following getter/setter.
// defaultState
private var _defaultState:CustomState;
[Bindable( "defaultStateChange" )]
//I have tried defining type property as CustomState, doesn't works
[Inspectable( category="General", name="Default State" )]
public function get defaultState():CustomState
return _defaultState
public function set defaultState( v:CustomState ):void
if ( _defaultState!= v)
_defaultState = v
dispatchEvent(new Event("defaultStateChange"))
Here, CustomState extends MXMLObjectAdapter and defines a id property and few other property. and In mxml I can define it like this,
<CustomList ....>
<defaultState>
<CustomState label="" icon="" />
</defaultState>
</CustomList>
Now, what I want to achieve is, I want to define property something like this:
<CustomList ....>
<defaultState label="" icon=""/>
</CustomList>
Can someone tell me how to achieve this and point me to some description about it.
Thanks in advance.

@Ryan:
Thanks for your reply. For type property in Inspectable metadata tag: http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/gumbo/html/WS2db454920e96a9e51e63e3d11c0bf680e1-7ffe.html#W S2db454920e96a9e51e63e3d11c0bf69084-7a21
It can have values like Boolean, Array, String etc. I am trying to have a custom one. But I notice that I have to close the property tag, even if it is a string or html for e.g. text property in TextInput, I have to write something like this:
<mx:TextInput>
<mx:htmlText>
<![CDATA[
]]>
</mx:htmlText>
</mx:TextInput>
and
<mx:TextInput>
<mx:text>something</mx:text>
</mx:TextInput>
But I still think, it should be there. Not sure

• How to add default values when adding custom component to design view?

I have a set of custom components (usually) extending Spark components. But when adding our custom component onto design view, how can I define defult values (in AS3).
For example, s:Button has default label = 'Button' when added to application, or mx:DataGrid has 3 columns predefined, but when using custom components there are no predefined values like this.
I can put this values in constructor, but they are not visible in design time, only runtime.
Any ideas? Thanks
Esmin

yes, I am. By the way I've found the solution. Someone might find this usefull.
In design.xml having
<component name="ExtendedTextInput" namespace="mynamespace" category="beta" displayName="ExtendedTextInput"/>
use this
<component name="ExtendedTextInput" namespace="mynamespace" category="beta" displayName="ExtendedTextInput">
<defaultAttribute name="text" value="ExtendedTextInput"/>
</component>
so when adding this component to design view, it will have text setted to value ('ExtendedTextInput' in this case).

• Decode function not called for a custom component

I know this problem happened in the past - in the EA2, EA4 and I believe the beta version as well, but does anyone know if it has been solved for the release ?
In short - I'm working with the release, created a menuBar component and the decode method in the renderer is not called after I submit the page. In the past, there were rumors that this happened due to relative paths in the JSP (for js files, images, etc.).
Does anyone else have this problem ? or better , know how to solve it ?
Thanx,
Netta.

It's not that simple - The component is getting rendered, all the encode methods are called and the decode is called also , but only the first time the form is submitted.
I added this custom component to the guessNumber application, and I have a menuBar in the greeting.jsp that leads to the response.jsp and vice versa. it looks like this in the greeting.jsp page -
<!-- Start Menu -->
<t:MenuBar id="bar1" styleClass="myClass" >
<t:Menu id="menu1" name="menu1">
<t:Menu id="menu2" name="menu2">
<t:MenuItem id="item2_1" name="item2_1" action="/mytest/guess/response.jsp"/>
<t:MenuItem id="item2_2" name="item2_2" action="http://www.msn.com"/>
<t:Menu id="menu3" name="menu3">
<t:MenuItem id="item3_1" name="item3_1x" action="http://www.msn.com"/>
</t:Menu>
</t:Menu>
</t:Menu>
<t:MenuItem id="item3" name="item3" action="http://www.cnn.com"/>
</t:MenuBar>
<!-- End Menu -->
In the response it looks like this -
<!-- Start Menu -->
<t:MenuBar id="bar2" styleClass="myClass" >
<t:MenuItem id="item3" name="item3" action="/mytest/guess/greeting.jsp"/>
</t:MenuBar>
<!-- End Menu -->
and every time a menuItem is clicked on, the JS calls submit form.
Since the menus are rendered, I assume there's nothing wrong with the rendererType and any other renderer problem. Since the decode is called only once, I assume the right form is being submitted.
So, what can cause it to stop calling the decode ???
Could it be that becase I go directly to the page and not through the navigation rules ( I call window.open directly from the JS), it creates a problem ??
Please help, I've been wasting so much time on this !

• Adding custom converter to custom component ?

Hi,
I have created a custom component in JSF 1.1 that extends HtmlInputText.
The component works as it should. My Problem is that when I apply one of my own custom converts to it, the converter is never invoked ?
<ps:custInputText id="text1" validator="#{pc_Start.validateText1}">
<f:attribute name="fieldReference" value="ref_text1" />
<f:converter converterId="ps.trimAllSpaces" />
</ps:custInputText>Does anyone know that's wrong ? Maybe it is not possible to to apply custom converters to custom components ?
Thanks in advance.

Try by adding value attribute to ur custom tag, it might work.

• Best practices for adding components in a composite custom component

Hello,
I am developing a custom, composite JSF component need to dynamically add child components in my renderer class. I've noticed that people add components to a custom component in many different ways. I'd like to follow JSF best practices when developing this component - of the following approaches, which would you recommend? Or is there yet another approach I should be using?
1) in the encodeBegin method of my renderer class, create a new component, add it to the component tree, and let the page life cycle take care of the rendering:
HtmlDataList dimensionStateGroupDataList = (HtmlDataList) app.createComponent( HtmlDataList.COMPONENT_TYPE );
//set properties on dimensionStateGroupDataList
component.getChildren().add(dimensionStateGroupDataList);
2) in either the encodeBegin or encodeEnd method, create a component and encode it:
HtmlDataList dimensionStateGroupDataList = (HtmlDataList) app.createComponent( HtmlDataList.COMPONENT_TYPE );
//set properties on dimensionStateGroupDataList
dimensionStateGroupDataList.encodeBegin();
dimensionStateGroupDataList.encodeEnd();
Both of these methods are functional, and I prefer the first (why encode children if you don't have to?), but I am interested in other people's take on how this should be done.
Thanks for your help.
-Christopher

My bad, sorry, wasnt concentrating, Im afraid I have no experience with portlets, but I would have thought that you can mimic the outputLinkEx in you renderer by encoding your own links?
If you were to bind a backing bean variable to an outputLinkEx what would it be? Not understanding portlets, or knowing what an outputLinkEx is may be hindering me, but you should be able to create an instance of it in code like (this example uses HtmlOutputLink, you would need to know which component to use):
HtmlOutputLink hol = new HtmlOutputLink();
hol.set....Then set any attributes on it, and explicitly call its encodeStart, encodeEnd functions. Is that way off the mark.

• Access data in custom component.

Hi Everyone,
I am new to Flex soo pardon me if my questions are quite basic. I have searched a lot before posting here, might be I was not looking in the right direction. Please redirect me to the path that leads to the solution of the problem. I really appreciate any help that I can get.
I'm followiing this video tutorial.
http://www.gotoandlearn.com/play.php?id=100
All was going fine, until the tutor wanted to add custom component in the application. He added the HBox which I couldn't find in Flash Builder 4.6 so I added HGroup instead in my new component. Now when I want to use the data that was fetched in the parent component in custom component it gives me error. Here is the code and their file names.

When I use source to be source="{data.link[1].href} ... it gives the error,
Multiple markers at this line:

What needs to be done to use the item renderer right in custom component ? Please tell me the solution to it... I'm stuck on it for quite a few time.
Thanks

Hello Ravi,
one option is the create a public attribute to share your value note data with other components.
Another option is a function group with two function modules "SET_" and "GET_".
I´m sure one of the webclient UI Gurus here in this forum could share less "dirty" ways with you.
Kind regards
