Delete a Midi device controller - Logic Pro X

Hello,
I got problems with Midi device controller. I've installed (manually) the driver of the Axiom 49 (2nd Gen) which is not working well. I decided so to change with the Impulse 49 by Novation. The problems I got is that I cannot delete the Axiom 49 device from the ; Logic Pro X > Controller device > settings >Delete.... nothing happens. furthermore at each start of Logic, I got a warning that the device is not connected.
I tried to reset all settings Midi drivers in the preferences of Logic Pro X but even with no success.
Thank you in advance to give me a way to get rid of this problem.
Regards,
Thomas

Typically you should do your research before you start throwing subs
Ummmm... maybe you should take your own advice?
I've seen this happen several times and in every case it relates to a specific driver installed and how it was installed..
It doesn't happen with other drivers.... which leads one to realize its probably not specifically a LP issue as such but more likely related to the specific driver itself....or a file/folder/User permissions issue..
Example.. I just went and deleted all my surfaces (various different HUI/Motu/Korg devices via the CSS GUI and each one deleted without issue.... and remained deleted...
Then I installed a Novation Impulse driver... tried to delete it and it didn't correctly delete.... I also re-installed a Logic Remote and Transport drivers and they all continue to delete as normal...
Again, this only happens with certain drivers and not all... so my suspicions are its more likely driver specific related (maybe permissions related too) than LP related though of course there is a possibility it is both.....
I'll post up screenshots in the following post....

  • I am trying to use 2 MOTU 896's as an aggregate device in Logic Pro 8

I am using Logic Pro 8 on a Macbook Pro OS 10.6.8.  I am trying to use 2 MOTU 896's as an aggregate device to have total of 16 inputs.  I am daisy chaining the 896's via firewire.  I can select channels 1-16 as inputs in Logic.  I am getting signal input in channels 1-8 in Logic.  However, I am getting no signal input in channels 9-16.  I've also tried using ADAT light pipe as output from the 2nd device to the 1st one and that didn't work either.  I have created the aggregate device under audio-midi setups and I've set the 1st 896's clock source to internal and the 2nd 896's clock source as the 1st 896.  I've also tried both 896's clock source as internal.  Has anyone had any success in using 2 896's as an aggregate device in Logic Pro 8?  I need to use this setup to record a large band.  I would greatly appreciate any tips that anyone has.  Thanks.

    David,
Learning is not a bad thing, I'm just saying what you thought MIDI did is in error, you're not the first.
Here's an article explaining what MIDI is and how it works, it probably seems less than you thought it capable of but the fact is, since it's standardization in 1983 it completely revolutionized electronic music. By the Way, the designers of the Prophet 8 (Dave Smith & Sequential Circuits) had a lot of input into the MIDI protocol, in fact, if you had to say one company/person came up with the basics of MIDI it was Sequential Circuits. They also came up with the first polyphonic, fully programmable analog synth. I had a very basic MIDI studio at the end of 1984.

  • Help needed in connecting two midi keyboards to Logic Pro.

Hey there, I would like to connect two midi keyboards to Logic Pro and enable each keyboard to trigger separate software instruments each. For example, one keyboard has guitar and the other has strings.
I realise this must have something to do with midi channels or ports, however my knowledge is limited.
At current, I just have the two keyboards connected via usb straight to the computer. Is it possible I need a multi input or output interface, so that Logic can recognise different ports, or channels? Perhaps there is simply something I need to do in Logic itself? the keyboards are basic M-Audio midi controllers, just a usb port - thats it, no other connections. Any help would be great, Brad.

    Hey Brad,
yes you need also to change the out midi of the keyboards.
in my case I have the Keysation 61 es, it's done this way:
    "Channel
MIDI data from the keyboard can be sent on any of 16 MIDI Channels. However, certain MIDI devices and MIDI software applications require
the keyboard to send data on a specified channel. If this is the case, you can change the channel the data is sent using the following
    method:
< Press the Advanced Functions button to engage Edit Mode.
< Press one of the 16 Channel keys from D1 to E3, according to the Channel that you need.
For example, if a device specifies that you need to send data on Channel 10, press the Advanced Functions button, and then key F2 to select
    Channel 10.
The Channel can also be assigned to the Octave “+” and “-” buttons. Once assigned, pressing “+” or “-” will increase or decrease the channel
incrementally. When Channel 16 is reached and “+” is pressed, Channel 1 will be selected. If the Octave “+” and “-” keys are selected to vary
the Channel, the lights above the buttons will not change, since it is not possible to have a Channel with a negative value. Pressing both the
“+” and “-” buttons together will recall Channel 1."
Can you please tell me what keyboards do you have?
this is for two players having a go on completely 2 different parts.
In case you want to record 2 tracks with the same content say a piano and a pad,
all you need to do is open the tracks and rec enable both and you have piano pad.
Anyway I believe you need to have two separate sounds for two players?
Give us some more input of what you want, there must have one or more solutions to what you need.
    Cheers mate,
    Jorge

I use Logic Pro to edit midi files. Unprocessed Midi-Files reproduced from the programm "Qmidi" with German letters ä, ö, ü ß. Once I have edited the midi-file with logic-Pro are not correctly play back the letters. This also happens when I have not made any changes in the midi file. In Qmidi I can the font / setting "Western (ISO Latin 1)" and enter these characters are correctly recognized. It must be because what makes Logic Pro from the midi file.
Thank you for your help in advance

  • DLS midi device in Logic

    Hi there!
Is there any way that I can use my DLS midi device in Logic? I have a brand new macbook 2GHZ, 2GB ram, and when I use Logic there aren't almost any orchestral instruments, aside from flute, trumpet, strings and litle else. I've searched on the list of instruments, and while there are a few hundred sounds (synths, electric guitars, basses, etc.) I can't find virtually anything orchestral. The DLS device has all the orchestral instruments I need, so there must be a way of using those sounds in Logic.
This must be very basic, but I'm new to Logic...
    Thanks for any help,
    Pedro

All good - updated GT100 firmware (http://www.roland.com/support/article/?q=downloads&p=GT%2D100&id=63080713), it was recognised as both an audio and MIDI input immediately after.

  • USB MIDI CONTROLLER- LOGIC PRO 7- I CAN SEE THE LIGHTS BUT NO SOUND OUT?

I just got logic pro 7.2 so i am very green, garage band automatically recognizes the usb midi controller and i can hear it,
in logic it recognizes it i can see the lights for sound levels but no sound is coming out, ive been trying to figure this out.

Heck, if loneliness is your thing... more power to ya!
now why cant i hear the midi
MIDI doesn't make a sound. You either need to assign a software instument to it or use an external device, all depending on the track you chose. If you, perhaps elaborate a little more as to what you did (typing with your caps lock released), there's a better chance of getting your problem solved. If you're hearing your recorded guitar, then there's a chance you selected the wrong type of track to record to as far as MIDI tracks go (there is a difference in Logic).

  • Connect MIDI device to Macbook Pro 2014 using Logic Pro X

I recently bought the newest 13" Macbook Pro (October 2014), and I am having trouble using the newest version of Logic. Before I got this laptop, I was using a 2011 Macbook Pro; I could just plug my MIDI cable into my old PSS-480, plug the USB into the computer, select "External USB/MIDI Track", and it worked perfectly. Now, when I select "External MIDI Device" it asks me to select the MIDI ports on the keyboard as output's or something. I don't know what preferences to select on Logic or my laptop to make it work, and I know that the computer and Logic are both recognizing my keyboard because I've set up the Audio MIDI app thing on my laptop. Can anyone tell me step-by-step instructions to help me fix this problem? Thank you!!

    Jim
Thanks for the advice. Unbelieveably I was sitting down to follow your instructions and the thing just worked in any case (after 2 days of trying!).
    All is well!

  • Audio to MIDI Conversion in Logic Pro X

Is there a way to convert an audio file to MIDI in Logic Pro X? It was possible in previous versions via Audio File Editor.

I have described this process in more detail, with screenshots, in this Ask Different answer. Here is a copy of my answer without screenshots:
record an audio clip to an audio track
double-click the clip to view it in the Editor panel
click the Show/Hide Flex button near the top left of the editor window, to the right of the menus
You will be asked ‘Do you want to turn on Flex for track “Audio 1”?’. Confirm “Turn on Flex”.
change the Flex pop-up menu at the top of the Editor from “Flex Time – Automatic (Slicing)” to “Flex Pitch”
right-click the audio area and choose “Set all to Perfect Pitch”
from the Edit menu of the Editor area, choose “Create MIDI Track from Flex Pitch Data”, at the bottom
This will generate a MIDI region with the notes Logic can detect from your audio. You can delete your audio track now.
You will probably want to quantize your notes too, which makes notes start on the beat. You can do this by viewing the generated MIDI region in the Editor panel, selecting all of the notes, and choosing a beat size in Time Quantize at the left. Or you could do it earlier in the process, with the Time Quantize section next to the Flex Pitch editor.

  • How do I record multiple midi instruments in Logic Pro simultaneously on separate tracks?sim

Hi. I am trying to record multiple midi instruments simultaneously into Logic Pro 9 through a MOTU USB Fas Lane so that it is similar to recording a live band.
    Essentially:
Track 1: Midi Keyboard - Motu Fast Lane Input A - Logic Pro - Software Instrument (Absynth)
Track 2: Midi Drum Kit - Motu Fast Lane Input B - Logic Pro - Software Instrument (Battery)
Neither Midi device can be set to a separate channel.
I would have thought this was a really common application (recoding from multiple live midi sources like a band would normally do) yet it seems unnecessarily complicated.
I gather what I would have to do involves:
    1) Going into the Environment.
    2) Creating a Physical Input
    3) Creating a Sequencer Input
    4) Placing a transofrmer between the Physical Input and the Sequencer Input
Where to go ffrom there I have not got a clue!
    Any help would be appreciated.
Incidentally I would also like to record two audio tracks at the same time as the midi track, but hoepfully that does not complicate things further.
    Thanks,
    Luke

I have it set to Performance mode which according to the owners manual: "This mode makes the XP-30 function as a multitimbral sound
source, and Performance settings can be modified. If you’re
using an external MIDI device to control the XP-30 in this
mode, it will function as a multitimbral sound source."

  • Does anyone use MIDI loops in Logic Pro to compose music?

Seriously, if anyone out there uses the MIDI loops to compose music in Logic, how the heck do you do it? Especially if you are also using audio loops, it seems almost impossible to me. The chord transpositions that you get from the chord track are not even to the right pitch, and the transposition behavior is different according to whether you drag the loops into the arrange area before or after putting the changes in the Chord track. The signature track is no better, as it doesn't seem to affect audio loops. So how do you get the bass loops etc. to play in the keys you want them to without going through extraordinary contortions? I looked at one of the Logic Pro books, and it said to transpose by using the transpose function in the inspector, but that only lets you transpose by octaves! Do you really go in and edit the loops by hand to transpose each note?
Any pointers on this would be greatly appreciated.

Put the mouse pointer on top of the transpose number, which is zero, hold down the left mouse button and drag up or down to transpose by steps. At the beginning of either the getting started or Logic manual there's an explanation of the different types of mouse/key behavior, if you're not used to using Logic it's a good idea to go over these.
Also, Logic does not always use simplified Mac conventions (thank the stars for that), as a result you have a lot more variety of data input, it varies according to the task at hand.

  • Mac mini mid 2011 and logic pro 9 in 64-bit?

    Hi,
I have a mac mini mid 2011 with a 2.7HGz intel core i7 processor and 8 GB of RAM. I have been using Logic Pro 9 in 32-bit mode and tried switching to 64-bit mode. I unchecked the "open in 32-bit mode" in the "get inf" section, but logic still opens in 32-bit mode.
My question is: Can my computer run Logic Pro 9 in 64-bit mode???
    Thankyou!

    Hi there jdtay2,
It looks like your model of Mac Mini does have a 64-bit processor according to the article "How to tell if your Intel-based Mac has a 32-bit or 64-bit processor"

As far as opening Logic Pro in 64-bit mode, you will first want to make sure that you have the most updated version, as 64-bit support was added in the v9.1 update. The article below has more information about Logic Pro and 64-bit mode.

  • Can't use .mid file with Logic Pro 9

I've been given a .mid file from someone I know but I'm not having any success trying to access the file in Logic.
The file should just contain a piano piece he had written.
When I first downloaded the file it automatically opened with QuickTime Player. I closed this then tried various ways of getting it into Logic. Firstly I went to File > Open, and chose the .mid file. This was the result:
"Damaged project or not a Logic Pro project!
    "Search for fragments?
"Damaged projects might create problems and crashes!"
    'Search' or 'Cancel'
When I click 'Search' I'm told:
    "Read error!
"This is not a Logic Pro project!
    "No tracks found"
    'Continue'
So, is the file empty (no tracks found)?
Or, because it was not created in Logic, it can't be opened in Logic. (I think he is using a PC, not confirmed yet - I also don't know what DAW he's using, yet)
That's ridiculous though, I thought MIDI was a universal language?
I also tried dragging the file straight into a Logic project, which tells me:
    "No tracks found"
Can someone please give me a little hand!? Thank you

Two ideas, have your friend check and make sure the mid file plays on his/her system.
    and/or
If the mid file checks out good on his/her system have them compress (ZIP) the file and resend as it could have become corrupted during transfer. It can happen.
Your description of the file (zero length) sounds like it missed the last few bytes.
