  • How to delete files from an attached camera after downloading?

New to Aperture 2. I am sure to have a lot of exploring to do but for now I am looking for a way to delete files from an attached camera after downloading like you can with iPhoto. Is this possible?

While I might be a bit paranoid, I prefer to format in the camera after verifying that the import came out OK. It is a small price to pay to make sure that my images are actually on the computer. I don't do anything fancy, just make sure that the thumbnails come up correctly, and maybe perform an edit.
While it was not my images, thank goodness, I did get bit in a similar fashion. I use a "watch fob" style GPS unit for Geocoding. I have hoodahgeo configured to delete my tracks after import. Well, after one session I forgot to update my images with the gps information. As you can guess, when I re-opened HoodahGeo to try and re-geotag, the tracks were gone, so I was out of luck.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output andWi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Let ff auto delete file from c:windows\temp after download?

Say you download a rar file. firefox builds the file first in C:\windows\temp as it download to completion. Then FF COPIES this file to the destination folder which could be on another drive. BUT FF never deletes this temp-file in c:windows\temp after copying. And you can NOT delete this file temp-file until you close FF. Deleting browser history temp files using ctrl-shift-del does not work.
    Why is this?
Say I download many rar files at once. After each file completes firefox cCOPIES them to the destintaion directory. Again they go to another drive. BUT FF never deletes the temp-files form c:\windows\temp after completion of download and copying to the destintaion folder. UNLESS you close firefox.
Meanwhile this can clog up my small SSD drive which is only 20GiB
    Need workaround please?

OK you developers are such autistic a**holes. I just tried to manually delete the temp files FF makes when downloading files from c:\windows\temp. This did not free up space there's still the same amount of space left (163MB) on my SSD as before deleting the tempfiles form this dir. WTF is this?

  • How to delete a file from my hard drive through iTunes?

I want to delete a file through my iTunes. Whenever I do, it just gives me a dialog window telling me that it will delete the file from the library and my iPod. It does NOT delete it from my hard drive. I do NOT want to let iTunes manage my music.
How can I delete files? It seems crazy that I wouldn't be able to.

hmm. for some strange reason after doing that it just simply warns me that in deleting the song(s) it will ruin my playlists/mess up songs currently on my ipod.
im just trying to delete all the songs that are under a minute from various albums because they take a lot of room, yet are pretty useless. but they are strung out over multiple files and i simply would love to be able to delete them all from the library where they are arranged. do you know of any other techniques to fix it?

  • Can't permanently delete song file from external hard drive

    Hi Guys,
I want to be able to delete actual song files from my external hard drive as well as from my iTunes library in one easy, lazy step, via the iTunes window. I am not interested in finding and manually deleting the files through my external hard drive.
When I hit delete it only deletes the song from my iTunes library but not the actual destination music file aswell (from my external hard drive). I am aware this is because my external hard drive is not the original "Music\iTunes\iTunes Music" destination that the apple crew have designed and so I am not offered the option of sending the file to the recycle bin or "trashing it" when I hit the delete key (this permanently deletes the file).
I am also aware that I can find the music file destinations and delete them through the iTunes window by hitting "CTRL & R" or by the "show in windows explorer" command. I am not interested in these options either.
Basically, I have 20,000 songs to clean up and don't want to have to take my laptop with me to my grave...
I suspect there is some way of changing things around, possibly via some particular parameters to be set in the "Edit" > "Preferences" > "iTunes Music Folder Desintation" command area but still haven't been able to crack it.
Any help would be welcomed with open arms.
    Cheers.
    Labia.

    Camoracer,
You are right. Pardon me. The majority of the music that I was trying to delete off my external hard drive was in a separate folder (on the external hard drive), not in the directory specified in my iTunes preference settings.
    Problem solved!!!
This should also be a lesson to those who believe a one step delete function (from iTunes library and actual music file) is not possible when the music files are stored on an external hard drive (or other storage medium for that matter). I have read a host of other forums who say a one step delete function is not possible without additional software.. Perhaps these posts were from the authors of the software trying to make a $.
    Cheers.

  • How to delete backup files from old backup drive?

    Hi,
I recently changed the backup drive used by Time Machine, from /Volumes/vast4 to /Volumes/vast2 (for example). Time machine now happily backs up to vast2 and shows available backups going back to the date of the change from one drive to the other. I no longer need the old backups on /Volumes/vast4, and I do need the 2GB of space they occupy. These old backups are not visible in Time Machine - it sees only backups on the new backup volume. Completely manual deletion of /Volumes/vast4/Backups.backupdb, with rm -r in a terminal, gives "Permission denied" even when I have admin privleges. Is there a way to do this deletion from within Time Machine, or at the command line? Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jason

First try to use Disk Utility to repair that disk permissions. Then you can also get info on that folder and take a look at what sharing and permissions are set there. If you don't see your name there (your user name, not the admin) then add it by clicking on the plus sign. Set the permissions to Read & Write. Now try to delete the folder.

  • Trouble deleting trash files from an external drive?

They are from my passport for MAC.
I have tried doing from terminal as well and most did delete however there are a lot of files that won't. I am getting a message pop up then when I click continue it just disappears and trash is still full.  Would love some help on this please.

    Apparently;
    error
    -50
    paramErr
    error in user parameter list
Not sure what it means though.
I usually use rm -rf as it ignores permissions errors I think. Or at least attempts to.
The man page for the RM command is below.
    NAME
rm, unlink -- remove directory entries
    SYNOPSIS
         rm [-dfiPRrvW] file ...
         unlink file
    DESCRIPTION
The rm utility attempts to remove the non-directory type files specified
on the command line.  If the permissions of the file do not permit writ-
ing, and the standard input device is a terminal, the user is prompted
(on the standard error output) for confirmation.
         The options are as follows:
-d          Attempt to remove directories as well as other types of
                     files.
-f          Attempt to remove the files without prompting for confirma-
tion, regardless of the file's permissions.  If the file does
not exist, do not display a diagnostic message or modify the
exit status to reflect an error.  The -f option overrides any
                     previous -i options.
-i          Request confirmation before attempting to remove each file,
regardless of the file's permissions, or whether or not the
standard input device is a terminal.  The -i option overrides
                     any previous -f options.
-P          Overwrite regular files before deleting them.  Files are
overwritten three times, first with the byte pattern 0xff,
then 0x00, and then 0xff again, before they are deleted.
-R          Attempt to remove the file hierarchy rooted in each file
argument.  The -R option implies the -d option.  If the -i
option is specified, the user is prompted for confirmation
before each directory's contents are processed (as well as
before the attempt is made to remove the directory).  If the
user does not respond affirmatively, the file hierarchy
rooted in that directory is skipped.
         -r          Equivalent to -R.
-v          Be verbose when deleting files, showing them as they are
                     removed.
-W          Attempt to undelete the named files.  Currently, this option
can only be used to recover files covered by whiteouts.
The rm utility removes symbolic links, not the files referenced by the
         links.
It is an error to attempt to remove the files ``.'' or ``..''.
When the utility is called as unlink, only one argument, which must not
be a directory, may be supplied.  No options may be supplied in this sim-
ple mode of operation, which performs an unlink(2) operation on the
         passed argument.
The rm utility exits 0 if all of the named files or file hierarchies were
removed, or if the -f option was specified and all of the existing files
or file hierarchies were removed.  If an error occurs, rm exits with a
         value >0.
    NOTE
The rm command uses getopt(3) to parse its arguments, which allows it to
accept the `--' option which will cause it to stop processing flag
options at that point.  This will allow the removal of file names that
begin with a dash (`-').  For example:
               rm -- -filename
The same behavior can be obtained by using an absolute or relative path
         reference.  For example:
               rm /home/user/-filename
               rm ./-filename

  • Delete PDF file from a folder

    Hi!
please help me this is urgent..
i try to delete pdf file from my local pc how to do that ??
can some one help me i need it by today please help me ..
    thanks to all of you...
    from:
    newbie

First you open a File to the specified file, and then you call delete(). Easy
    File file = new File("path/filename");
file.delete();Of course if you want to make your application cross-platform you will need to build a correct path somehow. Check out the static attributes of the File class to help you (fx. File.separator).

  • .DS_store won't let me move files from one external drive to another

I am trying to move some music files from one external harddrive to another.  They are both connected to my mac mini.
In the "from" harddrive I have a folder with a bunch of music files in it and it also has a new file in it called DS_store. When I open this folder and select all, it naturally selects all of my music files and this DS_store file.  When I try to drag all of this to the "destination" harddrive I open the folder that I want to drag them to which already has some music and it has the DS_store file too, it won't let me drag the files to it   It says something like there is already a DS_store file there.  So I tried deleting that file from each external drive and it just reappears.
If I create an empty folder in the destination drive, I can drag all of the files to it.  The problem is I want the new files to be in the same folder with the older files.
In addition there are a few other ghost type files that have shown up too.
Any suggestions would be welcome.  Thanks.

If you're copying from a FAT-formatted volume, do as below.
    Back up all data.
Select the text on the line below by dragging across it. Don't include the blank space at the end of the line. Only the text should be highlighted.
    dot_clean -m
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Now switch to the Finder and and select the icon of the FAT volume. Drag into the Terminal window. More text will be added to what you entered.
Click in the Terminal window to activate it, then press return.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear. Then quit Terminal and try the copy again.
