Deleting songs form my harddrive

I am wanting to dump all my songs from my harddrive so I can bring in more music. I Have about 20 gigs on my hardrive that I have backed up and want to remove it because my hardrive is full. In doing so itunes tells me that they will be deleted from my ipod if I update it and the songs are gone. How do I keep the songs I have on my ipod and dump them off my drive so I can add more to my ipod? I don't want to loose it all. Thanks

You can do this if you turn off automatic synchronization. Connect your iPod and click the iPod Options button at the bottom of iTunes (or control-click on the iPod icon in the Source list). Click the Music button and select "Manually manage songs and playlists." It will then not automatically remove the tracks from the iPod if you delete them from iTunes. You'll have to drag songs from your library or playlist to iPod in the Source list to add new tracks.
Note that it's not a good idea to depend solely on your iPod to have your only copy of tracks that you've purchased from the iTunes Music Store or that would otherwise be difficult to replace. I strongly recommend that you make a backup copy of such tracks (on CD, DVD, or an external hard drive) before you delete them from iTunes.

  • Deleting songs form pc via itunes

hi there, i have a question: a few weeks ago i had to restore my music libary by uploading the songs from my ipod back to my computer. that worked pretty well, but know i want to "clean up" the music on my computer. the problem is the files that where uploaded from my iPod are named "FXQUEW" (for example) when they are not imported in itunes. is there a possibility to change the set up of iTunes, so that it deletes the file completely from my computer when i erase it from my iTunes libary? because i cant import every file one by one to see if i want it on my computer or not, that would take weeks....
i hope you get what i mean, cause my english seems to be a bit crashy....

If you're trying to put stuff back onto iTunes from the iPod_Control folder on the iPod, try the following:
    1. Open iTunes, go to Edit>Preferences>Advanced, and make sure 'Copy Files to iTunes Music Folder when adding to library' and 'Keep iTunes Music folder organized' are both checked.
    2. Click OK.
    3. Go along the top of the screen and choose File>Add Folder to library, and choose the folder with all of the songs in it.
What will happen is that iTunes will put the correct information with the files in the My Music Folder, and will make almost everything show up correctly in iTunes. By doing this, it will copy everything to the My Music folder as well, so you can also delete the originals.

  • What will happen when I delete songs

I have an older gateway computer and with a 20 Gig hard drive. I just got a 60 Gig ipod (3X's the computer). My music library is 7 gigs. I want to sync up with itunes and transfer everything over to the ipod and then delete most the music off the computer to create more room. Will I run into any complications the next time i sync up with itunes and most the songs are gone. I am afraid to try this before I know what is going to happen.

You have to set up your iPod preferences in iTunes to update songs manually. If you are set to automatically update iPod and you delete songs from your computer then you will lose them on your iPod.
Now you will also have a problem with manual updates if you lose some or all of your music on your iPod. Unless you have the music backed up somewhere or have all the CDs to import music again this will be a problem. You will not be able to recover purchased music unless on a CD somewhere.
You might consider buying a bigger harddrive (Seagate has some great deals these days) or an external hard drive.
Hope this helps. Let us know.

  • Why can't I delete songs?

I have a problem I have an i-pad and i-pod that I share with my children and I've put on all the restrictions I feel are  appropriate, but certain songs are still in the library.  So I simply want tto delete those songs form these devices.  Why can't I delete the selected songs from these devices?  I do not have i-cloud sync turned on these devices.

    Hello Unsilenced,
You did the first thing I would have done as well by attempting to delete the content and re download it. If you have not already, I would suggest restarting the computer and see how it looks after that. IF the issue persists then I would recommend checking for 3rd party plugins that may be interfering with this article:

If the issue is not resolved after that, I think recreating the iTunes library would be the next best step here.

  • Upgrading Deleted Songs/Albums???

Over the years, I have deleted from both my iTunes library and my hard drive a number of songs and albums that I purchased through iTunes--either because I bought the music on CD or because I didn't care for it anymore. Inexplicably to me, these deleted songs and albums are still listed on my "upgrade to iTunes Plus" page. Since I rightly don't want to have to pay to upgrade music that I don't even possess anymore, I was wondering if there is any way around this problem. Although I suspect that I'm S.O.L., any suggestions would be appreciated.

I believe that the Upgrade feature goes by the Purchase History in the iTunes Store, not by what is currently on your hard drive, so I don't know if there's anything you can do. But contact the iTunes Store Customer Service department using the form at the bottom of the Purchase Issues FAQ web page and explain the problem to them. Perhaps they will have a suggestion.
    Regards.

  • I cant delete songs from my iPhone

I have songs on my iPhone that I cant delete. I have tried unchecking them everywhere in my library, checking the Sync only checked songs, etc, I've tried to delete them by hand on my phone. Its as if they are a corrupted version of the song and stuck in my phone. Ive downloaded my music a dozen times trying to get these songs off and they always are there. They arent even whole albums, just one or two songs form an album. Ive checked the manually manage music button, Ive searched for duplicates in my library and Ive run out of ideas.
    What is the problem here?

Thank you for the suggestions. In response to the playlist possibility, I don't have a playlist made. I intentionally deleted it thinking that might be the problem.
As far as swiping the songs to delete them, I was able to delete the majority of the ones I didn't want by doing this. But these particular ones will not delete by swiping to the left. If I try that they will begin to play.

  • Deleting songs but memory space stays the same??

Hi I've had my new Nano for about a week now. I've had a look at the apple iPod manual site and I've read through a lot of threads in this forum but I still can't seem to find an answer to my problem:
When I transfer music to my iPod Nano I have no problem but if I want to delete any songs from my Nano list through iTunes my memory capacity still stays the same.
    Sorry I have a 2 gig Nano.
If I fill my ipod with songs and then if I get sick of some of them and want to delete a few here and there why does my memory capacity stay the same? I have used the update to take my Nano back to factory settings just so I can put new songs in my Nano, but its annoying that I have to keep doing that.
Am I doing it wrong? If you have any suggestions to help I would be happy.
    G.

G'day Colin. Thanks for your reply.
When I first got my Nano I filled it up to the max 2 gig. A few days later I deleted a few songs form my ipod but the disk space stayed the same. I then did a (Restoring iPod to factory settings) which wiped my Nano clean and back to a full 2 gigs. I
I have manual syncing as I have about 20 gig of songs in iTunes and only a 2gig Nano.
My question is: my Nano is maxed out with music to its full 2gig capacity if I were to delete say 20 songs from my Nano I should have some disk space available to add some different music but my nano's disk space doesn't change. If I delete all my music through I tunes the disk space in my Nano still says I have no space to add new songs.
At the moment if I want to delete and add some new music I have to reset my ipod back to factory settings just to add new music to my ipod. Surely the must be some way I can just plug in my Nano delete a few tunes and add new ones without having to (Restoring iPod to factory settings) all the time I want to add new music.
    Thank you. Graham.

    Hi Sam,
CRMToolBox gives you an option to work on webresources. Alternatly, You can export the webresource, work in Visual Studio and use the browse button on the webresource editor to upload the updated file.

    Hello audreywisc,
Songs can be removed from your iPhone by tapping 'Songs,' then swiping the song, then tapping Delete.
Remove a song from iPhone. Tap Songs, swipe the song, then tap Delete. The song is deleted from iPhone, but not from your iTunes library on your Mac or PC, or from iCloud.

  • HT1849 After I delete songs manually from my iPhone 5s, when I try to pick a song, it will not chose that song but some song above it.  How far up depends on how many I've deleted.  How can I stop this so I can pick the correct song the first time?

After deleting songs manually from my phone, (say, I have a song on there twice and only want one or I realize I don't want a song on my iPhone) when I try to manually pick a song in the music app on my phone, the song that plays will be one that is a number of songs above the one I chose.  If I delete a number of songs, it may be four or five songs above the one I want to play.  It continues after I sync it in iTunes.  How do I stop this?  Thanks,  Gregg

    Hi Gregg,
Have you tried resetting the device (nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the Home screen redisplays, see if your Music app is behaving normally.
    Cheers,

    Hi, Mrs.Frankie57.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you want to delete a song from your iOS device on iOS 7, tap Songs, swipe the song from right to left, then tap Delete. The song is deleted from iPhone, but not from your iTunes library on your Mac or PC, or from iCloud.

    A Espinoza,
The iTunes Media folder is set in Preferences > Advanced, and is the key to most iTunes folder organizational activities.  So I doubt that the automatic deletion will work for files that are somewhere else within the folder structure.
However, I have not experimented with that issue in quite a while, so you are welcome to give it a try in iTunes 11.

  • Delete songs from ipod touch

how do you delete songs from ipod touch if can help me that would be great.

planb77 is wrong. There is a way to delete songs, artists, albums, and playlists directly from your ipod touch. Simply click the song, artist, album, or playlist you want to delete but dont let go and slide your finger to your left (or right) and a red button will pop up to the right of the song, album, artist, or playlist title saying "Delete". Simply click it to delete it. To cancel and hide this button or option, simply slide right or left again or tap your finger anywhere on the screen away from the "delete" button.
BTW I am not absolutely sure if this will work on all previous versions of the Ipod Touch. I am running iOS 5. iOS 5.0.1 to be excact.
