Deploy Soap on iPlanet 6 web server

Hi everyone, I'm having problem trying to deploy SOAP on iPlanet 6 web server. Does someone have any docs or kindly give me some directions to set this up. I need to get this working ASAP.

Please post your web server related issue to the web server fourm:

  • IPlanet Enterprise Web Server hosting a portal server

Has anyone tried to port the Plumtree portal server component to iPlanet Enterprise Web Server (aka SunONE Web Server, v6.0 or later)? Plumtree doesn't support this, but I am trying to merge a custom SSO authenticator to the Plumtree portal (v5.0.1).
I have this working great in security mode 0 (with SSL turned off), but I am having a difficult time getting past one last issue in security mode 2 (full SSL mode). I can get the portal server to run fine in mode 2 through Tomcat on the same machine, using the same certificate and JRE. I can also get iPlanet to run other servlet applications fine with SSL turned on. However, there appears to be either: (1) an incompatibility between iPlanet's NSServlet plug-in that handles servlets and the Plumtree framework classes that set up replies via SSL, or (2) a configuration error in my setup somewhere. I'm hoping that (2) is the real culprit, but I've tried just about everything I can think of, and haven't been able to resolve this problem.
The server starts up fine and I can load non-portal content without a problem. But when I log in, the portal's main community page that should be returned is not being returned to the client. PTSpy doesn't indicate any problems, so I know the content is being built by the portal correctly, but the built page is never being sent back to the requesting client.
Here is the error that gets logged to iPlanet's error log:
[29/Dec/2003:15:05:53] failure ( 2772): Internal error: Unexpected error condition thrown (unknown exception,no description), stack: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javax/net/ssl/SSLSocket

It looks like a Java classpath issue, but I've verified (even in the same log file with java debugging turned on) that the SSLSocket class is getting loaded. I've even tried moving the specification of the jar file containing this class (jsse.jar, part of the JRE) to the beginning and end of my classpath setting.
I'm using the same JRE that is bundled with the Tomcat release supplied with my Plumtree 5.0.1 installation (1.4.1_02).
I've posted a similar message on a couple other forums (Java and iPlanet-related) and haven't found an answer yet. Does anyone have any ideas?
    John

In case anyone else experiences this, I have apparently stumbled upon an issue with iPlanet's handling a specified JRE/JDK instead of the supplied JDK in iPlanet (SunONE) Web Server v6.0, SP5, though I found a way around it to resolve my problem.
I had been specifying a different JRE to run with through iPlanet's administrative server manager. However, even though I was specifying to load all the JRE's jar files in my classpath setting, iPlanet was only loading the rt.jar file for my specified JRE. With verbose logging turned on, the error log was indicating that the other classpath specified jar files were being loaded, but apparently they were not being used. The JDK that was released with iPlanet appears to be being used for all other JRE classes outside of those defined in rt.jar. Since the JDK supplied with the iPlanet release didn't contain jsse.jar, which contains SSL support, it was not being loaded and was causing the problem I was seeing.
Instead of specifying the JRE of a different JDK that I was using, I changed the global setting in the administrative server manager to override the entire JDK. This has resolved my problem.
So if you specify a JRE to override the iPlanet supplied JDK/JRE, it appears that only the rt.jar file of the specified JRE will be loaded, and the jar files associated with the iPlanet-supplied JRE will be used for all other classes. Specification of a complete JDK to override the supplied one will resolve this, and the portal server appears to work fine now in any security mode setting when hosted on iPlanet Web Server (SunONE), even though Plumtree doesn't support that as a host server application.

  • Error message when deploying war file to sun web server 6.1

i've been trying to deploy an application developed locally in tomcat to a local install of sun web server 6.1, and can't seem to get it to work. the error message i am getting now is:
[05/Dec/2008:12:44:08] config ( 1640): for host xxx.xxx.xxx.xx trying to GET /cart/index.jsp, handle-processed reports: HTTP2205: The request method is not applicable to the requested resource.
but that is the only error showing up. i've found some other forum topics involving memory issues (not the case here) and mime.type issues (not the case here), but nothing where this is the only error message showing up.
    any ideas? anyone?

I deployed the application using a WAR file I created and the Server Manager.
I've been able to get a JSP running in the $INSTALL_DIR/docs directory (database connectivity, result set printing, session data storing) but not outside of there.
I switched to "finest" error reporting, but that isn't really helping much either.
I even deployed one of the sample WAR files that came with the installation (webapps-simple.war), and it failed too, the error message I got was:

  • How to deploy .war on Sun ONE Web Server 6.0?

    Hi Everyone
I have been trying unsuccessfully to deploy a .war application using Sun One Web Server 6.0.
I only installed Sun ONE for the first time this morning and don't know much about web servers - yet.
I deployed the web application from the web-based admin console. I'm not sure exactly what to put in the URI field. I just deployed it on the only existing "virtual server". I don't really know anything about virtual servers.
Also: I installed with the defaults, what port should I try to access my app from?
The documentation doesn't help much - so please don't give me a URL to some docs i won't understand.
I miss the autodeploy offered by other tools. I have deployed this app before on other servers.
    thanks in advance

The URI is the "virtual path" at which the web application is accessible. For example, if you deploy a web application at the URI /foo, you would access the web application by requesting http://server.example.com:port/foo/.
Unfortunately, I can't tell you what port your Web Server instance is listening on as that's configured at install time. If you don't remember the port you selected, check the server.xml configuration file. The port is recorded in that file.

  • Environment property on iPlanet/ Sun web server

We are migrating an application from tomcat to the Sun Web Server / iPlanet . Earlier in the tomcat server, our applications used context xml files and in them we had a setting as follows
    <Environment name="instanceNum" value="100100"
    type="java.lang.String" override="false"/>
What is the equivalent of the above in the iPlanet server?
    Thank you

This would be non-trivial in WS6.0. Additionally, WS6.0 is end-of-lifed, and has known security problems that are NOT going to be fixed. You should consider upgrading.
URL re-writing (and much more) is a native feature of WS7.0.

    Hello Ram,
To resolve the issue, I donwloaded the NWDS 7.1 version. Now I am able to deploy the BPM process successfully.

  • IPlanet frontend Web Server to backend WebServer

I am working on a project which has IPlanet 4.1 Web Server
on the front end and IPlanet Web Server 6.0 as the
middle tier. At the moment we have a front end Servlet
which deals withe forwarding requests to the App Server box.
Getting the results and displaying the necessary web pages.
The box that the 6.0 Web Server is on is a more powerfull box
so we would like to push all the java code to this box and have the frontend box route the requests using IPlanet web server software.
Is there any plugin to do this
We also have the option of upgrading to IPlanet 6.0 if neccessary

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought that the file
input box only allows for files to be transfered from
the clients machine to the destination (for obvious
security reasons), so unless the client is running the
browser on one of the servers, this method will not
    work.
If you own both webservers, you could use sockets to
read and send files to each other and use the web
pages to select the file and send the "send file"
    instruction.

  • Oracle Reports Integration with iPlanet Application/Web Server

Do any body know if we can integrate Oracle Reports with iPlanet Application Server or Web Server?

Theoretically yes, in Reports 6i there is either a CGI or servlet to set up, in 9i there is a servlet interface.
In practice through this is not simple, at least in the 9i case, and with Oracle 9iAS a reports server comes configured out of the box.

Has anyone tried to port the Plumtree Corporate Portal v5.0.1 portal server component to iPlanet Enterprise Web Server 6.0 (aka SunONE Web Server, v6.0 )? Plumtree doesn't support this, but I am trying to merge a custom SSO authenticator to the Plumtree portal (v5.0.1). In case anyone else experiences this, I have apparently stumbled upon an issue with iPlanet's handling a specified JRE/JDK instead of the supplied JDK in iPlanet Web Server v6.0, SP5, though I found a way around it to resolve my problem.
I had been specifying a different JRE to run with through the administrative server manager.
Specification of a complete JDK to override the supplied one will resolve this.

  • How to find what version of Iplanet Web Server is running on System

    Hi,
I am trying to find a command which i can run to find out what version of Iplanet Web Server am i running on my Solaris System.
Example: if i ran command it should return something like: Iplanet Enterprise Web Server 4.1 SP8
    WIll appreciate any feedback
    Thanks

You can go to server_root/bin/https/bin and run "./ns-httpd -v" command:
    # ./ns-httpd -v
    Sun Netscape Alliance
    iPlanet-WebServer-Enterprise/4.1SP8
For the current 6.x versions, you can use the start script of the instance like follows:
    # ./start -version
    Sun Microsystems, Inc.
    Sun ONE Web Server 6.1SP1 B12/19/2003 22:19
Please note that 4.1 version is no longer supported. You
should plan to upgrade to a supported version like 6.1.
    Thanks
    Manish

  • Can anyone tell me how to speed up the image downloads in iPlanet Web Server 6.0?

I am running iPlanet Enteprise Web Server v6.0 SP1 and I have a page that has quite a few images and they load extreemly slow. If I load the same page and images on version 4.1 SP7 it runs really fast. Help?

Just a suggestion: Try using iWS6.0SP2, it has some performance improvements.

  • Problem in starting the web-server after configuring .so on AIX

I am trying to configure a .so file in iplanet fasttrack web server 4.1 on AIX 4.3. I have build the .so file on IBM AIX 4.3. But while starting the web-server it failed to start. It fails when I include the following in obj.conf "Init fn="test-init" config="ConfigFile". While starting web-server I got the following :
server terminated (signal 11): watchdog is restarting it
    failure: server initialization failed
Any pointers on this would be helpful.

I got similar errors in the past when the web server process was running in the background. Sometimes shutting down WAS does not work.
Before you start WAS ensure that no java process is running or better try rebooting.
