Deploying a CF app as WAR file

I'd like to package an existing ColdFusion application as a
WAR file and deploy it on a J2EE server. I've been trying to test
this out locally without success. If you have a magic bullet,
you're disco-superfly. If you just have a suggestion for further
troubleshooting, you're still double cherry pie. Gruesome details
follow... (Thanks!)
PACKAGING:
I've got a developer version of MX7 running on Windows XP. I
threw together a demo CF app, "SimpleApp". In the administrator, I
go to "Packaging & Deployment" > "J2EE Archives (.ear/.war)"
and create an archive (SimpleApp.war).
DEPLOYMENT:
I've tried this on both JRun and several versions of Tomcat
without success. On each server, I have been able to deploy a WAR
file from a previous project created straight from Java/JSP - just
not the one created in the CF administrator.
JRun4:
In the administrator, I "add" the web applications in the
"J2EE Components" section and everything looks okay. When I browse
to the webapp created in native Java/JSP, everything looks
beautiful; but when I browse to
http://127.0.0.1:8100/SimpleApp/
I see a "403 Forbidden" error. Server log default-event.log is at:
http://www.google.com/base_media?q=hand3802261193274630671&size=8
Tomcat 4.1 running on J2SDK1.4.2_12:
Native Java WAR deploys and runs fine.
I copy SimpleApp.war to the Tomcat webapps\ folder and the
archive is extracted successfully; but Tomcat fails to start the
application.
Server logs:
localhost_log.2006-09-22.txt:
http://www.google.com/base_media?q=hand-2475548630705385852&size=8
stdout_20060922.log:
http://www.google.com/base_media?q=hand-6363724281182167089&size=8
I notice an error mentioning "Invalid <url-pattern>
*.cfml/* in servlet mapping" so I go into the extracted webapp,
comment out the Search Engine Safe URL mappings in web.xml and try
again. Now get an error about not being able to find a
configuration file flex-config.xml... Tomcat still can't start the
webapp.
Server logs:
localhost_log.2006-09-22.txt:
http://www.google.com/base_media?q=hand301238759104060090&size=8
stdout_20060922.log:
http://www.google.com/base_media?q=hand-8426419238544575272&size=8
I heard that MX7 only works with Java versions through 1.4.2
and Tomcat has it's own compatibility requirements; but I thought
I'd try other versions of Tomcat...
Tomcat 5.5 running on JRE1.5.0_06 and bundled SDK:
Native Java WAR deploys and runs fine.
SimpleApp won't start (problems similar to above).
Tomcat 5.5 running on JRE1.4.2_12 (with compatibility patch)
and bundled SDK:
Native Java WAR deploys and runs fine.
SimpleApp won't start (problems similar to above).

Dear jarviswabi,
Could you believe I just ran into the same problem you had in 2008, and STILL there are no documented solution to this issue.
I am trying to deploy a simple CF code using Tomcat 7.0.20, and it just does not work!
How did you ever resolve this error in Tomcat? It is supposed to be pretty staright forward, but it just does not work.
Any ideas? been looking for days...
Appeciate any insight yo may have into this problem.
Thanks!

• Unable to deploy a simple servlet using WAR file on Oracle9iAS v9.0.3

Hi All,
I am facing problem while deploying a simple servlet using WAR file on Oracle 9i App Server.
I have installed Oracle9iAS J2EE and Web Cache v9.0.3 on Windows 2000 server.
It includes:
- Oracle HTTP Server
- Oracle9iAS Containers for J2EE
- Oracle9iAS Web Cache
- Oracle Enterprise Manager
The release of installed Oracle9iAS is Release 2 (9.0.3)
I referred following link to Deploy Applications Using WAR file:
http://otn.oracle.com/products/ias/daily/sept12.html
As mentioned in this documentation I have followed following steps to deploy WAR file:
1] I have created a war file by name SimpleServlet.war. In SimpleServlet.war, there is a servlet by name Simple which prints time at which servlet was accessed.
2] I have modified <ora9ias_home>\j2ee\home\config\application.xml and added following web module entry:
<web-module id="SimpleServlet" path="../../home/applications/SimpleServlet.war" />
3] To make this module accessible from over the web, I have modified file
<ora9ias_home>\j2ee\home\config\default-web-site.xml and added following entry:
<web-app application="SimpleServlet" name="SimpleServlet" root="/SimpleServlet"/>
4] I saved both the files and started Oracle HTTP Server and accessed page as below:
http://<server>:7777/SimpleServlet/Simple
where Simple is servlet in SimpleServlet.war file.
In the browser, The page cannot be found is shown to user. I have verified that SimpleServlet.war is extracted to SimpleServlet folder under <ora9ias_home>\j2ee\home\applications folder. I found that Simple.class is stored under WEB-INF/classes folder and web.xml contains correct entry for url pattern for servlet Simple.
What else could be the problem? Am I placing the war file in wrong place or modifying application.xml or default-web-site.xml in a wrong directory?
This is very urgent. Please help me with your valuable comments on this.
Thanks in advance.

SandeshHave you restarted you http server and then tried to load it again? Are you using the right port; maybe you have to use port 7778? Check you server settings in the http server instance. Also check your url binding of you application at Farm > Application Server: infrastructurehost > OC4J_instance > Application: appname > Web Module: modulename
Good luck!

• How to deploy the .ear and the .war file

Hi all,
I am using Jdev 11.1.1.0 and weblogic 10.3.1 and I want to deploy a very simple application.
I have successfully deployed it to an ear file, so I have in my folders two file: a .war file and a .ear file.
Now, what steps have I to do to deploying my application on WebLogic Server?
I have searched in the forum and in the manual, and this link ( http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12839_01/web.1111/b31974/deployment_topics.htm#CHDFJADJ ) but I can't find nothing that help me
Thanks
Edited by: user10799119 on 25-ago-2009 7.45

Thanks, I have just read http://radalcove.com/blog/?p=34 and http://radalcove.com/blog/?p=48.
I am in my weblogic console, I have clicked Install --> I have choose my ear file --> activate changes, but I had this error: No credential mapper entry found for password indirection user=myUser for data source myConnection.
I have read some post in the blog and I have unchecked Auto generate and sinchronize weblogic-jdbc.xml descriptors during deployment.
Clicking in activate changes, it works, and the deployment is in the state "prepared".
When I click on start I have this error: No credential mapper entry found for password indirection user=myUser for data source myConnection (without the final DS).
I have seen that in myJDBCConnection --> configuration --> connection pool, I have not the user name and the password. I have inserted them, but I have the same error.
Any ideas?
Thanks again

• Deploying MBean with ear/jar/war files

Hi!
I'm working on a project where we plan to use jmx to manage our web(servlet) application.
I have created a simple test MBean, and try to create the MBean with MBeanServer.
When i try this, i got a ReflectionException(ClassNotFoundException).
I have try to deploy the MBean together with the war file(inside ear), create
a jar file and put it into myserver classpath(web console)...
Nothing works...

I have try to deploy the MBean together with the war file(inside ear), create

then you have to put the MBean classes in the server classpath. This
is probably the best approach, if you want a centralized admin MBean
to do management from the WLS admin server across a domain.
If you want an MBean instance per managed server, then you can have
your application (during initialization) instantiate the MBean and
register it with the MBeanServer. This approach lets you package your
MBean classes with your application ear/war/jar.
You might want a combination of both approaches. An admin MBean
manages across the domain, and an MBean on each managed server listens
for attribute change notifications from the admin MBean to deal with
propagating configuration changes to the application running across
the cluster. Unfortunately, I have not found any examples or
documentation on how to get MBean invocations and notifications to
work remotely. (You know it's possible because the WLS MBeans do it!)

• Error in J2ee .war file deployment using ASC

Hi,
When I deploy a .war file using Application Server Control web interface, after
30 min or so, it gave me an error: "Processing has already completed". But when
I checked, no application was deployed. Sometimes the same war file deployment
finished successfully if I repeat the deployment process several times. The whole application is in a single .war, the war file size is about 52 MB. Looks like this is a
deployment timeout issue when server is very busy. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Richard

I have seen this before when the file names in the archive aren't case sensitive. I
suspect you're using NT, so the direct access to the file system is case insensitive by
default.
Make sure that the META-INF directory in the archive is in upper case, and check the case
requirements for the other files in the archive.
Regards,
Peter.

it in war file and deploy it.Here comes the problem :- I have packaged the application
in a war file using jar command and copied it under applications directory but
when i restarted the server(wls 6.0 sp1) ,i found in console the application is
deployed under applications node and not under web applications node-why? Agian
unpacked the war file and deployed it in exploded directory format now the console
shows it under web app node then why does not it deploy it as web application

• Default data adaptor error when deploying a war file in weblogic

Hi All,
Newbie here with a few questions regarding the deployment of OPA 10.1. Really hoping you guys can help...
1) I'm attempting to deploy an unexploded web-determinations.war file on WebLogic. Thanks to this forum I've got past the issues of "rulebase directory not found" etc. However, i'm now faced with an issue which I can't find any info on. Please see below.

I've got the following entry in the application.properties file too...
# Default XDS data adaptor file path
#xds.file.path =data
From what we can see we believe the code is getting a null pointer because of the following method in the WebDeterminationsServletContext class.
public String resolveFullPath(String path)
File f = new File(path);
return f.isAbsolute() ? f.getAbsolutePath() : this.servletContext.getRealPath(path);
We believe the getRealPath(path), highlighted in red, is returning null. Any ideas how we can resolve this?
2) The second issue I'm facing is with regards the plugins.libraries property in the application.properties file. I've got the entry as
plugin.libraries =DataAdaptor.DA;
which should point to our customised data adaptor. However I'm getting the following error.
4242994 [[ACTIVE] ExecuteThread: '2' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'] WARN com.or

A
3) Also, does anyone know if it's possible to deploy a web-determinations.war file containing additional internal application code? What we're attempting to do is deliver a single war file which not only holds the web determination code but also all the code for an application which wraps the OWD within it. At present this just isn't working. I'm not sure what the conflict is exactly. The only way i seem to be able to get this working is by deploying the code in two seperate war files.
Any help on these issues would be greaty appreciated.
Thanks,
Taj

(2) is being caused because your data adaptor plugin is not installed properly. The jar that contains your plugin needs to go in the WEB-INF/lib directory and you must specify the fully qualified class name in the plugin.libraries property of the application.properties file.
If you haven't provided a custom data adaptor, Web Determinations will configure and attach the default one for use instead, which is file based. If you are deploying to WebLogic as an unxeploded war, you must configure the directory the default data directory the plugin will uses by specifying an absolute path that your instance of Web Determinations has read/write permissions to in the xds.file.path property of the application.properties file. In your case (1) is basically being caused by (2) since if the your data adaptor was loaded correctly the default one wouldn't load at all.
As for (3) yes it's likely possible, provided you don't have library conflicts. How it's done really depends on what these additional customisations consist of.

• Error message when deploying war file to sun web server 6.1

i've been trying to deploy an application developed locally in tomcat to a local install of sun web server 6.1, and can't seem to get it to work. the error message i am getting now is:
[05/Dec/2008:12:44:08] config ( 1640): for host xxx.xxx.xxx.xx trying to GET /cart/index.jsp, handle-processed reports: HTTP2205: The request method is not applicable to the requested resource.
but that is the only error showing up. i've found some other forum topics involving memory issues (not the case here) and mime.type issues (not the case here), but nothing where this is the only error message showing up.
any ideas? anyone?

I deployed the application using a WAR file I created and the Server Manager.
I've been able to get a JSP running in the $INSTALL_DIR/docs directory (database connectivity, result set printing, session data storing) but not outside of there.
I switched to "finest" error reporting, but that isn't really helping much either.
I even deployed one of the sample WAR files that came with the installation (webapps-simple.war), and it failed too, the error message I got was:

Hi,
A war file is okay if you are using servlets & JSP, WAR means Web Archive.
So you can very well go ahead with a war file, incase you are thinking of EJB's
then a .ear file will help you.

Hi
Plz see the following .
Creating a War File
Prerequisites
The structure of your Web Module project QuickCarRentalWeb is currently displayed in the J2EE Explorer.
Procedure
1. Choose the project node QuickCarRentalWeb in the J2EE Explorer.
2. Open the context menu and choose Build Web Archive.
3. Confirm the message that files were generated successfully with OK.
Result
The archive file QuickCarRentalWeb.war has been created. It contains all the classes in the referenced Web project and the two deployment descriptors from the Web Application project. The archive file is added to the project structure as a separate node.

• Deploying an existing WAR file into the Portal

I have downloaded the Enterprise Portal and the SAP Netweaver Developer Studio (NDS) and have succeeded in creating a couple of projects of the ‘Hello World’ variety and deployed them on the Portal! So far, so good.
The problem I have is that need to deploy on the Portal an existing JSP/Struts application of ours which is available as a Web Archive (WAR) file.
The problem is that I cannot find a way of deploying an existing WAR file on the Portal – either via a Project or otherwise. I have found an entry in the Help files with the NDS which sounds promising, as it is entitled ‘Import a .WAR File into a new project’. However, the menu entry it says you should use (File ‑> Import ‑> MDK: Import a web archive (.WAR) into a new project) this last entry does not exist on my installation of NDS.
Any ideas or suggestions?

Hi Mustafa (and All) - thanks you very much for your answers, which has enabled me to make good progress.
I have created a project in the Deploy Tool, imported a simple WAR file into it, loaded to project and depployed it on my instance of the Portal - or at least I have deployed it as far as the Deploy Tool is concerned.
However, when I try to find it in the Portal in order to assign it to an iView in the Portal content, I can't find any evidence of its existence!!
As another 'tack' in the NDS I have created an 'Enterprise Application Project', into which I appear to have imported the WAR file - but I cant package this as a PAR file, which is what I seem to need to do to get it into an iView on the Portal. To create a PAR package I seem to need to create a 'Portal Application Project' - but I can't find a way of getting the WAR file into that!!
Any further advice would be greatefully received.
Thanks for your help to date and thanks in advance for any more you may be able to give.

Dave

• Extract WAR file while deploying

Anand,
Can you give a context for this question? Are you packaging your J2EE modules

• Sharing sessions between web applications (WAR files)

I am using weblogic 6.1. The opinion I have read indicates that
sessions cannot be shared between WAR files. That is, I cannot put an
attribute on the session from a servlet/JSP in one WAR file and read
it out from the other. The only justification I've seen is "security".
Now, I find this rather difficult to accept for several reasons:
1. I cannot fathom what kind of "security" would prevent me from
sharing the session between two web applications that I wrote myself.
Let's say I want to write a system that I divide up, for
modularity/separate deployment purposes, into 5 different WAR files.
Why should I not be able to just sign on once and pass that logon
information in the session from one to the other? (I know, I can use
cookies or URL rewriting - but that doesn't seem to be to be a good
solution. And if you can share information through cookies, why not
through sessions?) What about other user information like currently
selected language?
2. Several app servers (iPlanet and I have heard two others) allow you
to share sessions between WARs. Why not weblogic?
Thanks for any information you can give me. I have not been able to
find anything in weblogic documentation about this. If I am
misunderstanding the server capabilities, please enlighten me.
