Deploying Servlet using JAXP in 9iAS 9.0.2
We are trying to get a handle to the xml parser using JAXP. We are not
writing code specific to a particular parser. Is the 9.0.2 release
compatible with JAXP? It is in this area of the code that the class is
not found. I don't see where this is relative to a particular J2EE
version.
If JAXP is supported, how do we identify to the app server which parser
JAXP should use? Is there one already defined in 9iAS? For example, to
tell JAXP to find the Xerces implementation of the parser, we set a system
property in a static initializer in the servlet:
System.setProperty("javax.xml.parsers.SAXParserFactory","org.apache.xerces.jaxp.SAXParserFactoryImpl");
System.setProperty("javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory","org.apache.xerces.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl");
Then, to get a handle to the JAXP DocumentBuilderFactory, we use:
dbf = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
This is where the exception is generated.
Should we not use JAXP and write our code specific to a particular parser?
Could this be the cause of the problem?
Thanks!!
Oracle9iAS/OC4J 9.0.3 supports JAXP 1.1 (and not 9.0.2) . Please look at http://otn.oracle.com/tech/java/oc4j/htdocs/oc4j-fov-903.html

Error 500 while deploying Servlets using Weblogic 5.1
hi,
i have followed all the intructions on how to run servlets in weblogic 5.1 server.
till yesterday i have done nearly 10 servlets which worked perfectly. but today
when i coded a new servlet and started running using internet explorer it gave
"Error 500--Internal Server Error
From RFC 2068 Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.1:
10.5.1 500 Internal Server Error
The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling
the request. "
can u please give me the solution .
regards,
anitha
how this newly coded servlet is different from the other servlets?
Http 500 errror means some "internal error" happened while processing your request.
Do you see any error messages or stack trace on the server console?

Has anyone successfully deployed servlets using WAR file?I think I did everything right. The WAR file was deployed. But I can't accesss it.
I use .war files for deploying servlets in WLS 6.0 - they are much easier
than exploded dirs...
Usually, when I have a problem accessing the servlet once deployed, it's
almost always the deployment descriptor.

Unable to deploy a simple servlet using WAR file on Oracle9iAS v9.0.3
Hi All,
I am facing problem while deploying a simple servlet using WAR file on Oracle 9i App Server.
I have installed Oracle9iAS J2EE and Web Cache v9.0.3 on Windows 2000 server.
It includes:
- Oracle HTTP Server
- Oracle9iAS Containers for J2EE
- Oracle9iAS Web Cache
- Oracle Enterprise Manager
The release of installed Oracle9iAS is Release 2 (9.0.3)
I referred following link to Deploy Applications Using WAR file:
http://otn.oracle.com/products/ias/daily/sept12.html
As mentioned in this documentation I have followed following steps to deploy WAR file:
1] I have created a war file by name SimpleServlet.war. In SimpleServlet.war, there is a servlet by name Simple which prints time at which servlet was accessed.
2] I have modified <ora9ias_home>\j2ee\home\config\application.xml and added following web module entry:
<web-module id="SimpleServlet" path="../../home/applications/SimpleServlet.war" />
3] To make this module accessible from over the web, I have modified file
<ora9ias_home>\j2ee\home\config\default-web-site.xml and added following entry:
<web-app application="SimpleServlet" name="SimpleServlet" root="/SimpleServlet"/>
4] I saved both the files and started Oracle HTTP Server and accessed page as below:
http://<server>:7777/SimpleServlet/Simple
where Simple is servlet in SimpleServlet.war file.
In the browser, The page cannot be found is shown to user. I have verified that SimpleServlet.war is extracted to SimpleServlet folder under <ora9ias_home>\j2ee\home\applications folder. I found that Simple.class is stored under WEB-INF/classes folder and web.xml contains correct entry for url pattern for servlet Simple.
What else could be the problem? Am I placing the war file in wrong place or modifying application.xml or default-web-site.xml in a wrong directory?
This is very urgent. Please help me with your valuable comments on this.
Thanks in advance.

Also check your url binding of you application at Farm > Application Server: infrastructurehost > OC4J_instance > Application: appname > Web Module: modulename
Good luck!

How to run JAXP in servlet using JSWDK?
Hi,
I am trying to parse xml to html using JAXP API within a servlet. But an error message showing ' java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javax/xml/parsers/ParserConfigurationException ' is displayed in the web brower. But when I parse the xml to html and output the html text to the standard output, the program works. So, how can I run xml parsers within JSWDK?
Thanks a lot.Hi,
The problem is you don't have jaxp.jar in your classpath. JAXP Package is the implementation of the specification of XML processing in Java. The xml.jar contains implementation of Sun's(called Project X) XML Parser and related utilities that does not deals with JAXP Specs. The xml.jar is meant for the JSWDK to process the xml files(configuration files). I have not found any documentations for XML Utility classes in xml.jar.
The solution for your problem is; download JAXP api and get the jar files(3 jars) into the classpath. While setting classpath for the jars in JAXP check out that thing named crimson.jar appears first before any other jars in classpath, else it would throw a SecurityException.
Hope this helps.

Error on deploying a Web Service on 9iAS release 2
Hi, somebody could help me on deploying a Web Service on 9iAS release 2?, I have applied the UDDI patch through the orauddi.zip file downloaded from otn web site. But on the J2EE Web Service Deploying Wizard (OEM Web Site), at the Web Service configuration stage, a message is displayed telling me that a Web Service must be deployed if the 9iAS instance which has an infrastructure connection, and this is not my case (I don't want to install the infrastructure. The UDDISYS schema was installed on a simple 9i DB release 2 successfully and for the orauddi application deployed I had created a Data Source for this user).
On trying to do the same task from JDeveloper 9.0.3, an error ADM is displayed advincing the searching of errors in the log.xml file located on IAS_HOME/dcm/logs directory. Below I have copy the last part of this file, corresponding to the error day.

But, I can deploy this Web Service in the OC4J embedded on JDeveloper, successfully (from JDeveloper). Any idea?
Thanks a lot in advance,
Pablo.Because you do not have an infrastructure database, you will not be able to deploy your web service from OEM as one of its steps is to register the service in the UDDI registy - the Web service deployment and UDDI registration are tied tightly together in OEM right now.
All is not lost, however. You have two routes to deploy the Web Service on Oracle9iAS:
1. Use DCM, which is the command line interface to deploy applications/webservices/wars/ears on Oracle9iAS. It does not have the dependency on UDDI.
To deploy a Web service using DCM, say your Web service ear file were named test.ear your deployment command would look something like:
c:\oracle\ora903\dcm\bin\dcmctl deployApplication -file test.ear
See the doc for much more detail to let you tailor DCM to do all the stuff that is available through EM or specific to your application:
http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/A97329_03/core.902/a92171/dcm.htm#643834
2. In JDeveloper 9.0.3, there is a DCM Servlet that lets you do remote deployment to Oracle9iAS:
http://otn.oracle.com/products/jdev/htdocs/readme_9031.html#viadcm
I suspect your deployment problem from Oracle9i JDeveloper may be (this may be an incorrect assumption) due to trying to use a connection that is setup as if Oracle9iAS is a standalone OC4J.

Deploying BC4J JSP app to 9iAS (via EJB?)
Hello. Please help a newbie (new to Java, JDev, JSP, and 9iAS R2).
I've just built my first BC4J JSP app in JDev, and I've even setup a remote DCM connection to my 9iAS R2 server.
1. JDev release notes say that BC4J deployment from JDev to 9iAS R2 is not supported. Confusing. What is the best way to deploy this app?
2. I've created an EJB .ear file in JDev 9.0.3 and deployed it using the EM from OC4J_home. It seemed to deploy okay, but I don't know how to find it via an http path (I know, sounds dumb). Do I need to include a port number? Do I still point to my JSP page, or do I point to a servlet? What would a sample path look like?
3. Can you recommend a good book, something like "Oracle 9iAS and JSP Apps for Dummies?"
Thanks in advance.
-Tony.Hello - I've just asked one of the BC4J team to take a look at your questions, so please keep a lookout for a response.
I am not super familiar with BC4J, but since it's deployed as a J2EE application it should work in the following way:
When you deploy an EAR file which contains a Web application module, you have to tell the server what URL pattern it should use to know when to send the request to the Web application. The deployment screens in OEM prompt you to enter these URLs when the deployment is done.
Once the deployment is complete (and assuming that you've not modified the HTTP server port) you should then be able to access the application using
http://<server-host>:7777/<url>
where <url> is the pattern you entered for the Web application during the deployment process.
cheers

How to test servlet using Junit test????
Hello everybody
Does anybody know how to test an servlet class using Junit without using Cactus test . Is it possible to test a servlet using Junit without cactus test.Plz tell me the process how to test a servlet using Junit test .
Regards
srikant1) Do yoiu mean how to "run" your servlet code with sample parameter? This call manual testing with a sample run of you code. You need a web server(eg Tomcat), create a webapp with your servlet then deploy it there in order to run it.
2) httpunit and junit are framework to write test case code that can be automated and repeatable. Plz read their doc.
3) Your sample code me a very wrong way to retrieve and convert servlet parameters.
Get a java toturial and servlet tutorial book and read it over the weekend. You need to get at least the basic. -
Deploying servlets in the Sun One Web Server 6.1
Friends, Please let me know how to deploy servlets in the Sun One Web Server 6.1.
Thanks in advance,
Madan.You cannot get that behavior.
When an SSL client and server negotiate the connection, the client sends a list of all the cipher suites it supports. From that list the server will pick the most secure cipher suite which it also supports (if the server doesn't support any of the cipher suites proposed by the client, the connection establishment will fail).
RC4 (128bit) is more secure than 3DES (112 bit). Thus, a server will never pick 3DES above RC4_128 if both are valid options (i.e. when both client and server support both). If you really wanted to force use of 3DES you need to disable RC4_128 in the server (or all the clients; or both). -
Hot Deploy Servlet in JAR file problem
I've been playing with hot deploying servlets in WLS 5.1. I have SP2
installed. I have things working fine with individual servlet class files. I
decided to try hot deploying with jar files.
I created a servlet, added it to a jar file, and then added the jar file to
the 'weblogic.http.servlet.classpath'. I then restarted the server. I
started the console and was able to hot deploy the servlet. So far so good.
My next test is what failed. I modified the servlet, and rebuilt the jar
file. I went back to the console, selected the servlet and hit the redeploy
button. I went back to the browser and hit refresh - nothing, still the old
servlet.
It appears that WLS isn't reloading the jar file and the updated servlet.
Everything works with individual class files.
Does anyone know how I can cause the reload of updated servlets embedded
within a jar file?
Weblogic group - If there is no way now, will support be added soon?
Thanks,
Rick

Deploying Servlets developed in JDeveloper
I developed a simple database servlet using JDeveloper 3.0 and used Oracle JDBC thin driver for connection while developing. It is working fine when I run it from JDeveloper environment.
1)I want to deploy this servlet in Sun's Java Web server and test it.What are the files we have to copy, and where to put in the Java Web server.
How to use them.
2)If I want to use the servlets in IBM's websphere what is the procedure.
3)Do we have to down load Oracle driver and set the class path,if we are going to test all this in local machine. If so,where to keep the zip files in windows NT 4.0. In System variable class path OR we have to create a new classpath variable in user variable.
nullJDeveloper 3.0 release notes has detailed instructions of deploying DBServlets to
Oracle Application Server.
You can use this list and customize the steps for deployment to websphere.

Can i deploy servlet to iis server..?
Can i deploy servlet to iis server..?
if yes.. how..?to deploy servlets into IIS you need to use some connector which connects IIS to tomcat. Still you have to use servlet contrainer from tomcat only (as IIS serves you only web server functionality but not servlet contrainer ). use JK Connector for this bride.

Deploying servlets (not in jar/war/ear!) to OC4J?
I must be missing some very tiny but crucial issue....
For over 2 days now (shame) I have been trying but not
succeeding to deploy servlets to OC4J behind Apache. The 'behind
Apache'-part is easy. Just set up a proxy. This is because
Apache configuration is easy and well documented. But here is my
real problem. I am using JDev 3.2 (9i too large) and this is
what I want:
I want to code a servlet in Jdeveloper, compile it to a class-
file, not a jar, war, ear or whatever-r. Then I want to set up
OC4J in such a way that I can access my servlets from the
directory where the class files are. I do NOT want to use the
default-web-app subdirectory for obvious reasons. Please, how do
I set up OC4J to just look in my own classes-directory with my
own servlets???? No jar, no war, no ear.
I have been reading all sorts of information on this and tried
everything, but am not succeeding and getting all sorts of
error/not found messages.
Extra info:
I am using OC4J on windows. To start I use java -jar orion.jar,
to restart I use ^C and repeat the start command. Is that ok or
do I need to restart in a different way? I tried to setup OC4J
as a service but the link to runexecsvc went astray to judosoft
Any help will be greatly appreciated!Avi,
Thanks for your swift reply. I have indeed read the docs, but
the exploded directory format does not seem to work for one
reason or another (got some error messages on file not found or
something). Have you succeeded in deployment using exploded
directories? If so, I would be greatly interested in your xml-
files and directory structure!
But, please do not spend too much time on this, because I have
now decided that I will deploy using a war. I have written a
small script to make a war out of my whole project and copy it
to de OC4J file system. This works and everybody is happy.
Thanks again,
Martijn
