Deploying Sun Java - and controlling settings centrally

Hello.
We are trying to deploy Sun Java to corporate PCs (XPsp2) silently and also to ensure the settings are correct for our environment.
Deploying silently is easy (documented here and using SMS).
Some settings appear to be stored in the registry, and so we can control these by creating Active Directory Group-Policy templates.
However, some settings are stored in "document.properties" in the users profile - and this file is not accessible via normal centralised management techniques.
We want to set the downloaded Java folder (deployment.user.cachedir) to, say, c:\temp on all PCs. We cannot have the default option of having it installed in the user profile, as users profiles are quota'd and are cross-site roaming, so it is key to keep them small.
We would also turn off updates; tray icon etc etc.
We could manually modify this file in everyones user profile - but this is far from ideal, and indeed quite messy.
Is there a separate install package available to corporates where options can be determined in advance? Or is there a way we can apply this?
Many thanks!

I'm going to take a guess here... It's a known situation that, within a single instance of Internet Explorer, you can't have two different kinds of JVM running. So, for example, if you started a new instance of IE, and ran a forms session using JInitiator for a while; then came out of forms but, staying within the same IE instance, started an app using Sun JVM - you'll get a very nasty crash.
However, there should be nothing to stop you simultaneously running separate IE instances, one running JInitiator, one running Sun JVM.
Something to be aware of is that you can have multiple IE windows open, but all existing under the same IE process. For example, if you do CTRL-N from an IE window, you get a new window, but it's still part of the same process - you can see this by checking Task Manager. You can also get multiple windows sharing one process when a link opens in a new window, or you use a desktop shortcut when IE is already open. To guarantee a whole new IE process, the simplest way is to just start IE from the desktop / start menu.
You state that the order in which people open the two apps makes a difference. I wonder if the different order affects whether a new process is started or an existing one shared?
Good luck,
James

  • Sun Java DS Control Center Problem

    Hi,
I've installed DSEE 6 on solaris 9 x86 and setup communication express which is working fine.
I'm even able to login into control center but it does NOT show any directory servers.
how do i get my Director server listed in webconsole to manage?

Supposing you've installed DS with Java ES 5 installer, there is a default instance of DS created under /var/opt/sun/dsins1 (Linux / HP-UX) or /var/opt/SUNWdsee/dsins1 (Solaris)
To be able to manage this with DSCC, use :
    dsccreg add-server /var/opt/sun/dsins1
    or
    dsccreg add-server /var/opt/SUNWdsee/dsins1

  • Incompatiility among the SUN JAVA and IBM JAVA

    Hi,
There are Cryptographic policy files present in jre/lib/security. The
default policy files are not capable of using stronger encryption
    algorithms like AES 256.
In order to use them we need to install unrestricted policy files.
The unrestricted policy files provided by Sun works fine but the Sun
JRE is not compatible to the IBM JRE from the following scenario.....
If I use the unrestricted policy files from IBM in the Sun JRE 1.6 the following exception occurs.....
Caused by: java.lang.SecurityException: Cannot set up certs for trusted CAs
    at javax.crypto.SunJCE_b.<clinit>(DashoA13*..)
    ... 9 more
Caused by: java.lang.SecurityException: Jurisdiction policy files are not signed
    by trusted signers!
    at javax.crypto.SunJCE_b.a(DashoA13*..)
    at javax.crypto.SunJCE_b.i(DashoA13*..)
    at javax.crypto.SunJCE_b.g(DashoA13*..)
    at javax.crypto.SunJCE_b$1.run(DashoA13*..)
    at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native
    Method)
    ... 10 more
So is Sun Java compatible to IBM java or not?

If I use the unrestricted policy files from IBM in the Sun JRE 1.6Did somebody say you could do that?
So is Sun Java compatible to IBM java or not?Of course is it. But nobody said that if you combine elements of both of them, the result will work, did they?
    I've deleted your four crossposts.

  • Compatibilty Between SUN Java and IBM Java

    Hello all,
This is my 1st post in this Forum.
I build a Desktop application compiling my project with IBM J9 VM (build 2.3, J2RE 1.5.0 IBM J9 2.3 Linux Java.
The application runs on a windows pc that has the SUN Java version 1.5 installed, but it does not run on a pc that has the SUN Java version 1.6 installed.
I assume that there is a compatibility issue. Could it be the case that :
IBM Java Version 1.5 is only compatible with SUN Java 1.5 ?
    Thanks,
    Helen

You'll need to check the IBM site for a bug reports, I doubt Sun is going to be concered with a bug in IBM's implementation.

  • Sun Java and Linux PPC?

I've installed yellowdog linux on a Mac Mini and it seem that sun doesn't provide any installations for linux-ppc. IBM does and it works s this is not a big issue but a link or something to IBM could have made my life easier.
Now I go for the NetBeans installation and this is a binary file probably x86. Why cant you provide the installation using a java application or someting other than an executable?
Is there any way to install NetBeans on ppc based linux?

Hi ! I saw the message only now ... I think the class files are loaded from JVM which has to be correlated to the platform (32/64 bit) so I think the only preoccupation is to find netbeans in archive format !
See this link http://www.netbeans.info/downloads/download.php?a=n&p=1 here you can find the q-builds in tar/gizipped or zipped archives. These ones are development versions. Try these ones ! Bye !

How do i configure my messaging server to send outgoing mails through existing gateway and recieve inbound mails from the same gateway? There is two steps to this.
To configure outgoing emails to be relayed through a gateway, you need to modify the <msg_base>/config/imta.cnf MTA configuration file and add "deamon <gateway hostname>" to your tcp_local channel configuration e.g.
    ! tcp_local
tcp_local smtp mx single_sys remotehost inner switchchannel identnonenumeric subdirs 20 maxjobs 7
pool SMTP_POOL maytlsserver maysaslserver saslswitchchannel tcp_auth missingrecipientpolicy 0
    loopcheck daemon mygateway.com
tcp-daemonTo allow the gateway system to send emails to your host unconditionally, modify the <msg_base>/config/mappings MTA configuration fail and add the gateway's IP address to the INTERNAL_IP mapping table e.g. (where the gateway has an IP of 1.2.3.4 and your system has an IP of 192.168.1.20)
    INTERNAL_IP
      $(192.168.1.20/24)  $Y
      $(1.2.3.4/32)            $Y
      127.0.0.1  $Y
      *  $NOnce you have done this you will need to rebuild the MTA configuration cache and restart the MTA processes.
    <msg_base>/sbin/imsimta cnbuild
    <msg_base>/sbin/imsimta restart
Currently my server is connected to the internet directly i am able to send a mail to an external domain for example gmail. Can anyone help me out in understanding the default functioning of external mail routing and how do i point to a gateway? For the understanding, you will need to read-up the manuals. Messaging server is a flexible and powerful product for sending/processing emails, but with that flexibility comes complexity. I suggest you start by reading the Messaging Server Administration Guide:

  • Sun Java System Portal Server 7 Problems with IE7

    Hello,
I have just finished deploying Sun Java System Portal Server 7 on a Sparc box when I try to log in on IE6 or IE7 nothing happens.
What could be the problem and how do I get the logs of what could be going wrong
    Thanks

is the problem only w/ IE6 and 7? or is that just all that you've tried? :) on a *nix platform, you can find the portal logs at:
    /var/opt/SUNWportal/logs/...and
/var/opt/SUNWportal/portals/<portal-id>/logs/<instance-id>/...there is also the web container log, the location of which varies depending on the vendor. for example, for SJS app server 8.2, the logs are at:
    /var/opt/SUNWappserver/domains/domain1/logs/hope this helps.

  • Highest supported Sun java for forms 10.1.2.0.2?

    Hello everyone,
According to Oracle's "client platform statement of direction 10gr2" web page, the highest officially supported version of Sun java for our environment (XP, IE 6, Forms 10.1.2.0.2) is 1.5.0_06. Is this indeed correct? The Sun site has info that this version has the 2007 USA DST changes too.
We are looking into moving from jinitiator to Sun java and we want to make sure we stay supported. I have tested with 1.6 and my app worked ok, but if it's not offically supported, the powers that be will not allow it.
    Thanks for any info,
    Gary

I believe you need to install forms/reports patchset 3 10.1.2.3 for sun java, plus support for new browsers and vista IE8. going forward no more jinitiator anyway

  • Import a certificate into Sun/Java/Deployment/security/trusted.clientcerts

Hi I'm trying to make a java applet, it has to add a certificate in the Keystore Sun/Java/Deployment/security/trusted.clientcerts.
The problem is that to store, I have to enter a password. I enter "". ToCharArray () but when I try to view the certificates, it does not appear in the java control panel.
And when I try to import a certificate from the java control panel throws the following error "keystore was tampered with or password was incorrect".
    Code:
    private void guardarKeyStore(KeyStore ks) throws KeyStoreException, IOException, NoSuchAlgorithmException, CertificateException{
    FileOutputStream out = new FileOutputStream(System.getenv("APPDATA").replace("\\", "/")+"/Sun/Java/Deployment/security/trusted.clientcerts");
    ks.setCertificateEntry("someAlias", decodeCertificate(somebase64));
    ks.store(out, "".toCharArray());
    out.close();
    }

    Francisco26 wrote:

This certificate have to appear in the java control panel. (Security->Certificates->user->client autentication)
Why that? Because i need to do an applet that download a certificate response from a request to a CA.Which to paraphrase EJP is undesirable, insecure and untrustworthy. What you are asking would allow an untrustworthy site to declare itself trustworthy.

  • Help needed with Sun Java Studio Creator and EJB in a Portlet Project

    Hi
I have created an web-application with JSF in Sun Java Studio Creator 2. The web application uses a lot of EJB's which acts as the dataProviders. In a typical jsp page i have more that one data providers(the EJB's) getting used. When i run the project everything opens up properly in the browser and the application seems to be fine.
But when i create a JSP 168 Portlet project and do exactly the same thing for some reason the Apache Pluto(comes as the default Portlet Container with Studio Creator) conks off.
Then i started going ahead step by step:
    1. First i created a portletpage and added only one dataProvider(EJB) and ran the project...It gets deployed properly in Pluto and the browser comes up and everything shows up fine.
    2. Just to re-confirm i did the same thing with another dataProvider(EJB). So still we have just 1 EJB in the portlet page. As expected it also worked fiine.
    3. Then when I added more that one dataProviders(EJBs) in the porlet page the Apache Pluto conks off(saying that Pluto is not available)
I tried doing a lot of things but nothing works...Surprisingly the same thing works when u create a JSF web Application project but the same thing does not work when u create a JSR 168 JSF Portlet Project...
Did anybody face the same problem..Is it a bug in the Studio Creator...Any help would be highly appreciated.

As I mentioned before, the war created with 7 did not cause this and the application behaved normally.
    Any insight would be appreciated.
I am going to look at the diff between the two wars.

  • How can I deploy JBI Application in Sun Java System Application Server 9?

I developed a demo "Loan Processing Composite Application " in Netbeans.org(http://www.netbeans.org/kb/55/loanprocessing.html).
The guide only show the deployment using Netbeans6.Now I want to deploy it directly using Server9 , how can I do?
How to deploy a soa application in Sun Java System Application Server 9? Is there any doc?
    Please~~I'm puzzled.

To deploy a JBI application to Sun's App Server, you will need a JBI compliant ESB installed. OpenESB would be my first choice here. Then as far as installing your components without Netbeans, there are two choices. 1) Copy your SA's to the JBI/ESB autodeploy directory and you binding components and service engines to the JBI/ESB autoinstall directory. 2) Use the ant tasks that the JBI specification (http://jcp.org/en/jsr/detail?id=208) requires for all JBI implementations. OpenESB's JBI tasks are detailed here: http://wiki.open-esb.java.net/Wiki.jsp?page=JBIAntTaskReference. These ant tasks can be wrapped with maven goals if needed.
