Design view becomes corrupt in Dreamweaver CC

Whenever I edit code in split view or scroll the window in design view, the design view window content becomes corrupt with page elements randomly appearing and moving on the screen.
It's only the view that's affected, the page I'm working on doesn't change, it's just the way Deamweaver displays it.
This makes design view useless for all practical purposes and must be a bug.
Has anybody else experienced the same issue?

Hi kushalgupta,
I a not sure what you ment with "reset the settings" but based on the Adobe Help file I deleted the the Dreamweaver CC folder in /Users/Your User Name/Library/Application Support/Adobe as well as the Dreamweaver preference file in
/Users/Your User Name/Library/Preferences to restore preferences in Dreamweaver CC.
Unfirtunately this didn't solf the problem for us. Maybe you ment something else with "reset the settings"?

You also do not have a site selected in your Files window. That is an extremely important step in DW.
If you haven't defined a site, and/or aren't working from a defined site, you'll run into all kinds of problems with Dreamweaver. You'll notice in your screen shot, you have a Files window in the bottom right. The  dropdown in that window (currently showing Desktop) needs to have a site selected. If you haven't defined a site yet, follow the instructions here...

  • Design view not displaying in Dreamweaver

My website is displaying fine in all the major browsers but I cannot get the design view to come up anymore. It started when I updated the header, a php include. The error must be in the include file because I cannot see the entire site in design view now.
Here is the link to the include file: http://environmentaltrademission.org/_nav.php
This is the link to the index page of the website: http://environmentaltrademission.org/index.php
Thanks so much for any help you can offer.

I just looked at your _nav page and sure enough it has way more stuff than it should.  This is all it should contain.

The page contains PHP markup, but it's not any that should interfere with your seeing something in Design view.  What is interfering with that is some invalid HTML on the page.  For example -
    <font size="1">American Telecommunications Certification Body</font><br></td>
                    </td>
(note the </td> followed by another </td>)
If I remove that extra </td> then your Design view becomes visible.  There are at least two other problems on this page -
There is no doctype - thus, the page will be rendered by all browsers in QUIRKS mode.  That's a bad thing.  You should use an HTML 4.01 Transitoinal doctype on this and other pages.
There is an improperly nested <font> tag here -
    <b><font size="2" color="#FF0000">BuildAPlane Announces Teachers’ Day at AirVenture! >></b></font>
I'd fix all of these if I were you.
The page also contains PHP scripting that is connecting to an online database, and extracting information that is used to populate the <select> tag in the projects form.  You will not see that tag populated with options in Design view.  To see it, you would need to have Apache and PHP installed, and have a testing server defined for this site.  Even then, you would only see that tag populated in Live view or on Preview, not in Design view.

  • Can't see design view after changing connections file from localhost to a remote host & back again

I was using localhost to test files before changing the connections document over to a remote host, since I couldn't get dreamweaver to connect to the remote host, I changed back to localhot. My files are all .php files. This is a dynamic site. After I changed my connection back to my local host my design view no longer works. It's competly grey with 3 small icons at the top on the left. I can view in live view and I can view in the browser. But no longer in design view after being able to for 6 months. The 3 icons are a hard drive case, a document, and a link symbol . When I click in code view the design view turns grey when I click in design view it turns white. I am using wamp for the localhost, Windows XP home, Dreamweaver CS5. Can someone please tell me how to go back to design view. This happens with any & all files including non dynamic .html files. Also having a problem connecting to my remote host. using godaddy, and they have tried with me for 2 hours to connect, I just keep getting password is incorrect. Thank you for any help, Stacey

I would also recommend clearing the Site cache, which may help with the connection failure. To do so, choose Site > Advanced > Recreate Site Cache.
After doing so, be sure to go back into your Site Setup, and make sure the FTP address, user name, and password are all correct. (Click the Test button in there to verify.)
If that doesn't help with getting connected to your server, you might try an alternate FTP client (e.g. FileZilla) to just make sure you are entering the right connection information. It could be that GoDaddy is having some issue, or maybe you just mistyped something (I know I do this often when I type too fast).
As for the issue with Design View, try clearing the Dreamweaver cache. Instructions are here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/494811
You might also try toggling the location of Design View. That is, when in Split View, choose View > Design View On Left. Then, choose that menu option again to reset the location back to the right.
Resetting the workspace might also be recommended. Window > Worksapce Layout > Reset 'name of current workspace'

  • Corrupt design view in Dreamweaver 2014

Is there a solution for the corrupt design view in Dreamweaver 2014. Adobe continues to fix this and it has not changed. My pages are all distorted and the elements/divs are all over the place. It is perfect in live view.
    PLEASE...does anyone have a solution,
    Thanks,
    Kathy

    Kathy,
Design view in Dreamweaver has always been very problematic, it amazes me that it has been OK for you in the past.
With DWCC14, live view has greatly improved and it will not surprise me if Adobe decide to drop Design view in future releases.
To answer your question, in DWCC14, I would not use design view at all. You can now use Live view where you could not use it in previous versions of DW.

  • Dreamweaver CC automatically deletes code in code view and elements in design view

When I open a file in Dreamweaver, it automatically shows a * next to the filename - showing it has been edited.
Then often when I select some code in code view, or an element in design view (such as a table, an image, some text) it is suddenly deleted.
The problem is especially bad (happens without fail) if I am switching between programs. But also happens when I'm not switching.
I do not have this problem on a different user account.
I have reinstalled Dreamweaver three times now. Also renamed preference and configuration folders. Tried with a wired mouse and keyboard. Nothing has worked.
I can't think what I did to cause this. I installed MAMP recently - but have uninstalled it correctly I think.
I had an issue with one file in which there were about 30 Spry collapsible panels. I kept getting this warning:
"A script in file Macintosh HD:Applications:Adobe Dreamweaver CC:Configuration:Shared:Spry:DesignTime:EditingUtils.js has been running for a long time. Do you want to continue?"
I have to click 'yes' many times to get into the file, and the warning keeps coming up while the file is open.
However, my big issue of DW CC deleting code and elements happens whether or not this particular file is open.
So this may have nothing to do with it.
    Any ideas anyone?
Adobe's customer service has not helped. In fact, I have not even been able to get through to anyone on the phone - having waited literally hours listening to music, and getting shunted from person to person. And then their promised 'call backs' never happen.
    Thanks,
    - Greg

You've got a bad/corrupted user account.  Create a new one with Admin level priveleges and delete your old user.

  • Design view in Dreamweaver CC (update Oct. 2014)

Design view in Dreamweaver CC (update Oct. 2014)  shows renders fonts and elements as huge making it impossible to work in that view. In live view it goes down to normal. And is there a way to switch of the blue tag inspector wrapping around the elements in focus? It's driving me nuts!
What am I doing wrong, or is there a setting I'm unaware of?

I have a sneaking suspicion that the "fix" is going to be the complete removal of Design View and a much more robust implementation of a Live View editor. I don't have anything to back that up, it's just the vibe I get from the direction DW seems to be taking.
If there is a single web design/editor/developer application that even comes close to the features and power of Dreamweaver, I have yet to find it. And I test everyone I come across. Dw truly is the last great web design powerhouse. One of the main features that makes it so powerful, is its rich WYSIWYG editor for producing and managing large sites with tons of content - otherwise known as the inappropriately named Design View.
As design surfaces go, apps like Macaw, Webflow, and Reflow nailed it. They're brilliant when it comes to prototyping designs and building & styling structures. Dreamweaver just can't compete with those types of visual workflows. Live View is barely a design surface at all, and its workflows are preposterous. That may change over time. Live View might be useful someday for prototyping designs and building & styling structures, but I would be very surprised if Live View's design surface ever... ever... ever becomes a useful content production and management surface.
If Adobe allows - or forces - the Dw team to remove Design View, leaving us without a decent WYSIWYG editor, then where does that leave web designers like myself who produce and manage corporate sites with lots of content? - It's a rhetorical question.

  • Dreamweaver crashes when i drag my div tags in design view

    Hi
Ive just encountered a problem with dreamweaver cs4 at work.
I was creating a website using CSS and creating multiple div tags to house my images around the page. I normally position them using the CSS style sheet, but on this occasion, I grabbed the div tag whilst in design view and dragged it manually, and dreamweaver crashed! See image below It does so everytime I try the same thing again. Ive even restarted my PC. Anyone know why?

I've not see this before, so can't say why it would be happening.  Would the pc be low on resources?  but then again you say it happened even after a restart of the pc.
Maybe you could try the file cache and the personal configuration folder fix to see if it fixes any issues.

PS:  While I'm at it, it would be wrong for me to point out that using AP divs is not the optimum way to create a layout....  unless you know the repercussions of using them.
Here's why:  (from the Dreamweaver FAQ)

Does the page show correctly in a browser?
Dreamweaver design view is not very reliable  at renedering designs exactly the way you want them to look, especailly if you use more of the complex and up-to-date css, now available. Dreamweaver is always playing catch-up in that area.

  • After reopening dreamweaver files, the table and its contents are not shown in design view

I got a problem with deisgn view which has stucked me for the whole week. I've designed a webpage with dreamweaver CS4. After reopening this webpage, I got problem to see the tables and images inserted in dreamweaver (the sliced images from fireworks works well). Somehow this problem only existed in design view, but NOT is browswer view/ live view.  I thought it is the setting problem, but I tried to reopen the webpage I designed earlier... got no problem in either design or live view. I also tried starting over another new file, same problem existed (tables/images do not show in design view) I am really confused. Any thoughts?
I've already done my research everywhere, but cannot find solution.

Thank you so much... it works...
I should come here earlier... wasted lots of time !!

  • Dreamweaver 8 Design View render issue

I was wondering if anyone else has noticed a highly
irritating issue with DW8 that is apparently not an issue in the
Design View of DW MX 2004.
In DW 8 for some reason I'm getting an extra 150 pixels of
white space to the right of my #content container. It only appears
to happen when the content within the #content container does NOT
exceed the length of the content in my menu container (#priNav2).
In other words, if the content is longer then the menu, it renders
    fine.
    See here:
    Dreamweaver
    8
But, in DW mx2004 the exact same file shows up how it should.
    Dreamweaver
    MX 2004
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this issue
or have a clue as to why this is happening? It's really one of the
only bugs left preventing me from upgrading to DW 8 anymore.
    Thanks,
    - Paul

After some tinkering around and a call to Tech. Support I
eventually resolved this issue by pointing out a bug to Adobe.
Apparently the problem is the View / Visual Aids / Invisible
Elements option. If this is turned on, and you have a website set
    up similiarly to
    this one, you will
experience this sporatic, extranenous white space that shifts your
content around. It is not an issue in DW MX 2004, only DW 8.
The solution is to just simply turn OFF the "Invisible
Elements" option. Then the page will render the way it should.
A bug report has been submitted.

  • Dreamweaver CC crashes when switching from code view to design view

I am experiencing a recent problem with a file I am currently working. When I switch from code view to design view Dreamweaver crashes and requests a shut down. Other files seem to work without a problem. This particular files has 3 cascading EdgeAnimation CC files that are selected by media queries. I can test the page online without a problem but not in design or live view.

Since your new page didn't crash, this leads me to believe that you have some critical errors and/or conflicts in your other page(s).
Try running your code through the W3C validation tools.

  • How to hide content in design view within Dreamweaver?

How can I hide content in design view within Dreamweaver?
I have a tabbed content menu that uses some javascript. Everything looks great in Live view, but when I go to design view, all the content goes way beyond the div. How can I make it to where I can hide the content in that div in design view or wrap it completely inside of there? It's really hard to explain which is why I provided some pictures!
    LIVE VIEW
    DESIGN VIEW
Thank you in advance for all the help!
    Dalton

Humm....... you want to hide it in Design View whilst working on the rest of the site?
If that is the case set the menu container <div> to display: none; -
    <div id="menu" style="display: none;">This is the content menu</div>
Then either set it to display: block; when you're ready to view it live or remove the style completely.

    Any help would be appreciated.

There are several likely sources of corruption, and video card would be far down on my list of possible suspects.
The transfer from camera card to hard disk is the most likely place for problem, either the card reader or USB cable can go bad. Another likely source of problems is the computer's hard disk is starting to fail. The camera card itself may be bad. And lastly, the memory in the computer may be malfunctioning.
