Design view empty!

I'm using Flex Builder 3. While creating a UI within the
source view, I occasionally switch over to design view to see how
things are looking. At a certain point, all my controls disappear
from the design window. Everything's still fine within the source
view and the app actually compiles and runs just fine. After a
while, the Designer just gets itself into some state where it no
longer displays controls (nor can controls be added to the UI using
the Design view).
Is this a known problem? Is there a workaround?
Many thanks!

Most of what Flex does well is work with data. When you're in
Design view
you don't have access to the data, so you get a very
truncated picture of
what you're going to get when data is present. Since that's
the case, if
you're using Flex for what it's intended for, you're not
going to find
Design view very useful.
That being said, I've heard other developers with similar
complaints, and I
think it has something to do with the java version in the
eclipse part of
builder. You might want to try updating eclipse, or
uninstalling and
reinstalling Builder.

  • Why bolding or italicizing in Design View, it strips wanted empty span tags?

I do not know if this is a bug, a setting, or whatever, but when I edit in Design View my empty span tags with class are striped. I actually want that span tag to stay, because the span will eventually displays an icon via CSS.
For example, I have the following code in the code view:
    <p><span class="icon-dropbox"></span> Titles Goes Here</p>
When I bold or italicized a word using the keyboard shortcuts (ctrl+b or command+b) inside the <p> tag while in the Design View, it strips out the <span class="icon-dropbox"></span>.
Is there a way to prevent it from stripping empty span tag with class when in design view? I personally hate editing in design view, but I got some people who do (because looking at code give them headache). BTW, I am using Dreamweaver CC 13, and this issue is on both Mac and Windows platform.

That looks like a bug to me. It does it in DWCC 2014 as well. I've never seen it come up before here, but you have some fairly specific things going on there.
Here's where you report that: Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form
As a work around, you could add your bold and italic as classes themselves and use those rather than the old <strong> and <em> tags. Also, putting any content (a non breaking space works well) between those <span></span> tags also appears to stop the insanity.

I'm able to see the html/cf code in the code view, but in the

    Any ideas?

Hi everyone, I am new to these forums and new to dreamweaver,
I have a problem which I have no idea how to fix.
I have been using the program (in my limited ability) saved
my work, then when I opened it today, I have no design view in Code
and Design view. The top part is fine but all I have is lots of

The actual website seems fine, but just means I can't make
any changes other than in code view, which I a not skilled enough
    to do.
    Please help.

  • Can't edit in Design View

When I click Live View, I can see my page, and it shows up in a browser just fine, but I can't edit in that mode.  However, when I click Live View again, I just get a gray, blank page with the tag, meta, sytle, script, and link icons at the top left.  I've been tinkering with it for the last two hours, and nothing I try is getting the page to appear in Design, or Split view.  It's driving me nuts. Any suggestions?

    Here's the code.

    1) Padding is only placed on the top and/or bottom of the div. The elements within this div have padding on their sides. This saves you from any "box model math". Keep in mind, if you add any side padding or border to the div itself, it will be added to the width you define to create the total width. You may also choose to remove the padding on the element in the div and place a second div within it with no width and the padding necessary for your design.

Be aware that the CSS for these layouts is heavily commented. If you do most of your work in Design view, have a peek at the code to get tips on working with the CSS for the liquid layouts. You can remove these comments before you launch your site. To learn more about the techniques used in these CSS Layouts, read this article at Adobe's Developer Center - http://www.adobe.com/go/adc_css_layouts .</p>
        Layout
Since this is a one-column layout, the .content is not floated.
        Logo Replacement
An image placeholder was used in this layout in the .header where you'll likely want to place a logo. It is recommended that you remove the placeholder and replace it with your own linked logo.
Be aware that if you use the Property inspector to navigate to your logo image using the SRC field (instead of removing and replacing the placeholder), you should remove the inline background and display properties. These inline styles are only used to make the logo placeholder show up in browsers for demonstration purposes.
To remove the inline styles, make sure your CSS Styles panel is set to Current. Select the image, and in the Properties pane of the CSS Styles panel, right click and delete the display and background properties. (Of course, you can always go directly into the code and delete the inline styles from the image or placeholder there.)

  • V3.0 freezes changing from source to design view

Is anyone else having this problem? I'm using v3.0 (Build 532 JDK 1.2.2) on Windows 98 with 192MB memory. I start with a new empty project. Go to file, new and add a new Frame. I pick the defaults for Class, Package and Extends and leave everything else blank. I double click on the JPanel object and it opens up the source editor. I switch to design view and add JButton1. I go to events and double click in first entry picking the default method name. This puts me in the source editor in my new event procedure. I enter the line "this.setTitle("Test"); then click on the design tab. The screen partially shows the design info then it freezes. At this point all I can do is end task. There is no signs of activity on the PC and I've waited 10-15 minutes for it to come back but it's locked up good. Any ideas?

However, I have found something which helps a lot:
    - clean project (Project>Clean)
    - save whole project, close it
    - reopen project
    - open Design view
This is much faster than just opening desing view without cleaning, saving, reopening

  • Hiding things in Dreamweaver Design view

Hi, I have this huge Flash object on my page that is covering
up roughly 75% of the page view. It is on a floating layer and I
need to insert text under it. However I can't draw a new layer to
do this, nevermind the fact that this huge gray box makes it

  • After applying a template to a page design view is blank - I can only edit in code view.

When I apply a template to a page everything is fine. I can see the page elements in design view and code view. I can edit the page and upload it and all is fine. However, when I save the page with a new name or close the page and then reopen the design view is empty, the code view is normal. I would like to be able to see the page in the design view and cannot. I don't know what to do. I hope someone has an idea for me. Thank you.
I am using DW CS5 and pages are ASP.

When you say "template" are you talking about the .dwt Template file from DW?
If so, you may be using it incorrectly. Once you create the .dwt, all of your new pages need to be created via File > New > Create Page From Template and then saved to your site. If you are using the .dwt file and doing "Save As" to create more pages, you're going to run into all sorts of problems.
Do you have a link we could look at?

  • Design View and overwritten methods in subclasses

    Dear all
DESIGN VIEW DOESN'T WORK WITH OVERWRITTEN METHODS IN SUBCLASSES
I am developing a reasonably large applet-based menu using
JDeveloper. Because much of it varies only in small details, I
had planned to create a base class to hold all the common
elements, which would then call an emtpy method from jbinit().
Each menu applet would then extend this class and overwrite the
empty method to initialise components specific to their needs.
This worked fine when implemented in a few test menus and viewed
    in a browser.
However, problems arise when I try to work with the individual
sub classes in JDeveloper's Design View - they don't appear!
This means I will probably have to revert to "cut and paste" to
create further menus unless anyone can point me in a better
direction, or show how to get around this. Any help much
    appreciated.
    Thanks.

    null

    Nick,
I know of a similar situation when trying to use your own
designed JavaBeans which has the same problem -
thus I am suggesting the same solution.
The problem is that JDeveloper IDE uses a ClassPath
    (IDEClassPath).
Your code ( Project Output Path) is NOT in the IDEClassPath.
    (for good reason).
So, my suggestion is as follows:
    Exit JDeveloper
    Edit <JDeveloper>\JDeveloper.ini
    Locate: IDEClassPath
    Add ;..\classes
to the end of the line.
Run JDeveloper, open your workspace, project.
    Select menu: Project | Properties.
    Switch to 'Paths' tab.
    Change Output root directory to:
    <JDeveloper>\classes
    Press OK
    Rebuild your project.
Validate you can go into design mode on the base class.
Validate you can go into design mode on derived classes.
Please post follow up message (success or failure) so we
can file a bug if necessary.
    Thanks,
    John.

  • Code hints and Design view preview missing

Using FB with Flex sdk 3.3 and AFCS SDK 0.91. I installed the
SDK per the instructions in the ACFS dev guide. I then added the
FP9 afcs.swc to my project build path and compile for fp 9.0.124
The sample apps do compile and run.
    However
    1. I am getting no code hinting for the acfs classes
    2. IN design view, the components show as white rectangles
with red x's and obscure the flex components
    3. The design view>components view, the acfs folder is
empty, while the "custom" folder is full of acfs components.
Any idea as to what might be incorrect?
    Thanks,
    Will

    Hi Will,
I think it turns out we made a slight error in the dev guide
in the setup instructions - we mention that you should link the
AFCS source into your project in order to debug. Unfortunately this
seems to override the useful metadata baked into the SWC which
makes the SDK work with FB more seamlessly.
Advice : Remove the source path, then go to the library
path. Where you see AFCS.swc, expand it and select "source
attachment". Hit the edit button and add the source path there.
This seems to do the trick, allowing you to debug into the code
    without overriding the swc itself.
We'll get the docs fixed up to reflect this better way to
    set up the SDK.
    thanks

  • Yahoo Maps drives CPU up to 99% in design view

This problem is happening to both myself and my co-developer
on two separate, but similar PC's.
The sun is shining, the sky is blue, all is happy in the
source view, but upon adding a YahooMap component to an application
when I go into the design view, FB3 (sa or plugin doesn't matter)
slamps the CPU up to 99% utilization and will not respond anymore.
My first though was that it was something I was doing with the
component. So, I created a new empty project hooked in all the
Yahoo Astra stuff and then added just the Map component to my empty
application. Instantly the CPU flew up to 99% and Eclipse stopped
    responding.
    HELLLLP!!!!
    --Nick

My initial guess was correct. The YahooMapService sets its
"source" property to a mapURL that causes design view to go into an
infinite update loop. You can make a small change to
YahooMapService.as (and rebuild the SWC) to work around the
    problem.
In YahooMapService.as draw(), check the designTime flag
before setting the source property as follows:
    if (!UIComponentGlobals.designTime)
    this.source = mapURL + "?&swfDomId=" + swfDomId +

  • Going back to Flash builder 4 on Mac because of the design view

I've got installed the Flash builder 4.6 in a Mountain Lion Mac.
I have imported a project that I did some years ago with Flex 3. Everything seems to be ok until I try to see the design view. I can't see anything, it is just empty. I know that it is not necessary but it helps me a lot.
I've been searching in this forum and my conclusion is that I've got to go back to Flash Builder 4.
I would be very grateful if anyone could help me with the next questions:
1- Can I work with Flas Builder 4 with my current serial from flash builder 4.6?
    2- Should I uninstall 4.6 before using 4?
    Thanks!

    Hi Chris
    Thanks for your reply.
I had already seen that post, and the answers were not applicable to me. But thankfully I have found the solution now!
I Googled the error message: "org.apache.xerces.dom.DeferredElementImpl.getTextContent()Ljava/lang/ String", and came across the following bug report:
    http://code.google.com/p/alkwarel/issues/detail?id=10
As suggested in the link above, I deleted the xerces.jar  located in user.home/Library/Java/Extensions/. I then cleaned my project, and FB4 for Mac finally exported the release build!
That bug has been annoying me for MONTHS. I'm so happy it's fixed now!
    All the best,
    Zabeen

Nothing that I have written. I just created an empty project. It was supposed to show an empty windows phone screen in the XAML designer view. Instead it threw an Exception which was like:
