Desktop ETS & Realtime RAM Limit

Hello,
I have a Desktop ETS system that is running Labview RTOS version 8.2.  The computer currently has 3 GB of Ram in three Dimms (1,2,&3).   When I try to add the fourth stick of Ram, I get a bunch of errors mostly containing random letters and numbers.  The last error states "ETS Monitor halting with error code 200D."  I am not sure what that means but I have a feeling that it has to do with the memory limit that RTOS can handle in 8.2.  I searched on Ni's website but did not find anything, or even anything documenting the system requirements in terms of Ram.  All four of the Ram sticks are of the same model and make.  So if someone could point me in the right direction and shed some light on this subject I would greatly appreciate it.  Thank you.
Michael

Have you run a memory test on the last stick to make sure it's good (lookup memtest86+)
Anyway if ETS is like windows the last ~.5GB to 1GB is used up by devices, and can never be used. The only way around it in on a 32 bit x86 system is if the OS supports PAE (I think all current hardware physically supports PAE) and the memory controller can remap stuff so the devices and ram don't overlap, In windows PAE is only on the really high end versions (like data center or XP pre SP2, PAE was removed because a lot of device drivers couldn't work with it and that would cause a lot of problems). Note: windows may say that PAE is active when it really isn't (they need part of it for DEP). I'm not sure if PAE is enabled on ETS but I doubt it. Also in windows a single process could normally use a maximum of 2GB of memory (unless it was has the LARGEADDRESSAWARE flag enabled which raises the limit to 3GB (4GB if it runs under a 64bit os), but that only works if you also have the /3GB boot.ini flag enabled (not meaningful under 64 bit). AWE could be used to access more than 2GB (but I doubt you can use it in LabVIEW, and from what I've heard it's a pain to work with).
Basically what I'm saying is most likely (since I'm not sure how different the memory system is between ETS and Windows) if you have one process your can't use over 2GB of memory, and if you have multiply processes you can't use over 3-3.5GB, so the last stick of ram probably won't help you even if it did work.

    Hello
I have a macbook pro 2.33 ghz intel core 2 duo with
    2 GB 667 MHZ DDR2 SDRAM
What is the RAM limit i can install? 3GB or 4GB?, how do i know that? I dont have the manual.
    thank you
    Leo.

What is the RAM limit in a macbook pro 2.33ghz intel core 2 duo.?
3GB. You can install 4GB. The computer will only utilize approximately 3.3GB though.

  • Desktop ETS systems

    Hi All,
Would anyone who cares to post the specifications (brand, form factor, speed, any trick to use to get it going) for their Desktop ETS systems?
Frequently people struggle with finding a compatible target, but if we chip in we can give our colleagues a starting point. If you remember, list how long ago you prurchased the target hardware.
This is only for Desktop ETS systems, as described here: http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/4480
    Thanks!

    Hello,
Customer experience issues with a industrial PC that uses a motherboard from Rocky based on the Intel 865GV chipset. Another customer reported issues running RT on a motherboard using the very same chipset and the manufacturer were Rocky once again.
More detailed information from the customer on what they have done and what kind of motherboard they are using:
“I've attached the datasheet for the CPU board we're using (an IEI ROCKY-4786EVG-RS-R40 industrial PC), which gives all the information you should require.  It's being used with a 2.8GHz Pentium 4, 2 GBytes DDR400 SDRAM, 2 x 500GByte PATA hard disks (one FAT32 which we plan to use with RT, one NTFS which we planned to use with Windows, but only very occasionally), NI PCI CAN XS2 board and a number of other peripheral boards, all made by NI, apart from two North Atlantic PCI-76CS1 resolver to digital converter cards which are crucial to the operation of the system.
To crash the system it is enough just to start the LabView RT, then switch off the PC while RT is running. Starting up after this always results in the system remaining dead (fans and PSU LED's on OK, but no POST beeps, no video output, no indication that the CPU is actually running).  It doesn't matter whether we have executed any RT applications or not, the result is the same.
    We have found two workarounds:
    •          If we press the hardware reset button and then switch off power to the PC a second or so later, usually it will come back to life when powered up again afterwards.
    •          Also unplugging and re-plugging the main 220V power cable will usually bring the system back to life
However, these do not always work, and then we have major problems in restarting and this is of course the nightmare, and why we need to fix the problem.”
    What they have done:
    ·         Both motherboard LANs are disabled and we are using a PCI LAN card using the Intel PRO/100 S chipset.
    ·         USB legacy support is disabled
    ·         Serial support is disabled.
    ·         Parallel support is disabled.

  • From the RAM limit to the CORE limit...

I was thinking that Bidule (Plogue) is a good way to expand RAM Logic limit, but at the end it definetely shrinks to to be a way to add 2 or max 3 instruments to Logic possibilities (because of Rewire one core limit). If I use an Ivory and an Omnisphere plug I already get the Rewire core meter of Logic going near the top
(I have a 2x3 Intel Xeon Quad Core)
So, from the RAM limit to the CORE limit.....
And I think also that the hard criticised Spectrasonics Atmosphere and Trilogy plugins wrappers, now reveal very very useful for saving my Logic RAM expansion possibilities...
And about Logic 9..nothing mentioned on 64 bit support....

If file size is the biggest concern, once you've cleared out
    all items
you don't need any longer, try:
    1. Doing a Save As, then a Save As again. Often, for whatever
    reason,
this finally gets rid of old, unused objects.
    2. Create a new project and import the existing project's
    slides. This
    can have the same effect.
In my experience, the first is better for reducing file sizes
    and the
second is better for getting rid of any playback anomalies.
Otherwise, a better approach for what you're doing, again in
    my
experience, would be to cut up the audio outside of Captivate
    into one
file per slide (using a tool like Audacity), import them all
    into the
library, then add each individually. That's our standard
    process and
we've yet to experience these huge, bloated CP files (knock,
    knock).

You need to click on EACH program to read the requirements for THAT program

  • Ram limit in macbook pro core duo

    hi
I was wondering what the limit of the macbook pro core duo is. I know it says 2 gb but has anyone tried a 2gb chip + 1gb chip? I also know the core2's can do 3gigs.
I have had laptops that thave worked with way more than the specs said. My pismo's limit according to apple was 512mb ram I have had 1GB in that for many years. I think the 512 mb chip was the larges one at the time the computer was released so thats what was reported. is it the same thing with the first generation macbook pro's?
    thanks
    t

According to Apple's specs the limit for the MBP CoreDuo is 2 GBs. The limit of the Core2Duo is 4 GBs although only 3 GBs is user accessible.
The spec limit for the Pismo is 1 GB (512 MB per slot.) When new models are released sometimes there isn't RAM available to suit the limit of the model, so Apple can only certify a max based on what's currently available. You will find this is true of many older Mac models such as the Pismo.

  • Realtime Ram Preview Fail in Color Management is on

Hi. I m work with Ari Alexa footage as shown VIDEO: After Effects and Alexa - The Expurgated Version by ChrisZwar And I enebled mercury transmit in video preview preferences. When I want to ram preview After effects does not preview in real time. In info window appearce red text fps: 0,6/25 (NOT realtime) Note: project working color space is on
What should I do in this case

BeraT, if you disable Display Color Management (View menu > Use Display Color Management) and Mercury Transmit, do you get real-time playback during RAM preview?
Display color management and video preview in After Effects both impose a processing burden. As each frame is sent for display, additional work must be done to apply a color transformation or a dimensional transformation, respectively. If you have both color management and video preview enabled, both transformations are applied, plus an additional color transformation for the Mercury Transmit monitor. None of these transformations are cached, they are done live, on-the-fly and require additional processing at playback time.
The net result is that both color management and video preview require more processing power during playback. Larger frames, higher frame rates, and higher color bit depth increase the amount of processing power required, due to the increased memory requirements of the frames.
A faster processor would help give real-time playback more often, but you can also increase playback speed by lowering the memory requirements of the RAM preview frames: reduce the resolution in the Composition panel or the playback resolution in the Preview panel, reduce the project's color bit depth setting, or reduce the Frame Rate or increase the Skip rate in the Preview panel. Disabling the Use Display Color Management option will also help, as it removes one of the processing steps.
All of that aside, if you aren't able to achieve real-time playback when both Display Color Management and Mercury Transmit are disabled, that tells you the problem is coming from somewhere else. You'll need to provide more information about what's happening in your comp.

  • VS Ultimate with MSDN RAM Limit

    Hi,
Currently we are using Microsoft Azure - VS Premium with MSDN Licence and get hit with 512 MB RAM roof and site get suspended.
In our company we do have VS Ultimate with MSDN Licence, in case we change this Microsoft Azure hosting under the VS Ultimate with MSDN Licence the RAM will be revised to higher value?
Please clarify what is the limit difference between Premium Vs Ultimate subscription.

  • Envy DV7-7244DX RAM limit???

Hey all! I got the Envy DV&-7255DX last weekend and it came with 6GB RAM pre-installed running Windows 8 basic. I am having trouble finding what the max limit is for memory. Surely it is more than 8GB? Any advice?
    Thanks!

    Hi:
Yes, the notebook can take up to 16 GB of PC3-12800 memory.
Please refer to chapter 1, page 5 of the service manual at the link below for the memory info.

  • Windows XP Pro - 2 GB RAM limit with Boot Camp

    Hello,
I have a MacPro running windows XP Professional, have Boot Camp 2.1 installed, and my computer only sees 2 gb of RAM when I have 4gb RAM installed. OSX sees all 4 gb. I am very frustrated because many of the applications I use only run in Windows. As I know this is an outstanding issue upon further research, has anyone found a way to amend this (aside from switching to Vista 64) or know if Apple is planning to fix this issue? I fear that Apple's intentionally done this
which makes it even more infuriating. This is NOT a Windows issue; we have other machines running XP with 4 GB RAM just fine, which leads me to believe that its a problem with Boot Camp or Apple's EFI (Bios).
Thank you in advance for your input !

    Hi,
it's a hard- and a software problem as well.
Since 32-bit Windows has a limited range of adress space (4GB) to use for harware (PCI-E) extensions to use, the avaiable memory to use is diminishing the more expansion slots there are.
With the Mac Pros 4 PCI-E slots which reserve their needed adress range whether they are in use or not, this leads to an avaiable memory of 2GB.
Since 64-bit Windows has not the 4GB limitation, therefor the PCI-E adress ranges do not delimited the amount of useable memory.
XP-64bit would also do this trick, but is not supported by Apple.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • 24" iMac and 3GB RAM limit issues

I have a legitimate concern with the 24" iMac and wanted to know if anyone else thinks it's an issue. Read Apple's tech note on late model 2006 iMacs including the new 24" model.
    http://developer.apple.com/documentation/HardwareDrivers/Conceptual/HWTechRAM/Articles/RAM_implementation.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40003899-DontLinkElem entID5
In order to use RAM in an interleaved fashion it states you must use matched pairs. Meaning same size and type. SO.....if the new iMacs will take a 2GB SO-DIMM then why won't it register 4GB total? You can configure your new iMac with 3GB of RAM but it won't be interleaved. On top of that 2GB SO-DIMMs are super expensive in the +$700 range. More then MacPro's FB-DIMMs.
I don't see anyone talking about this but it seems to be a legitimate concern.

That IS the point, what person paying $2000 for a computer would be willing to pay another $1500 for a 4GB RAM upgrade? I just think right now it's hurting Apple's sales of the 24". The 24" encroaches on the prosumer market and at this point in time an affordable 2GB of RAM may seem adequate now but most likely not in 6 years. Which is how long I had my Digital Audio Power Mac. So I think anyone in the prosumer market NOW, like myself, looking for a machine that will last a few years may look away from the 24" and steer toward the Mac Pros. My needs fall squarely in between the 24" iMac and Mac Pros but unfortunately my budget does not. I could live with the 24" even with the expensive cost of the 2GB SODIMMs. I would in fact wait until the prices fell. What I can't live with is the fact that the iMac will only ever be able to use an uninterleaved 3GB when the possibility of an interleaved 4GB seems to be there. I was only able to keep the Digital Audio because I squeezed every ounce of life I could out of it because of various periodic upgrades.
Reluctantly I'm going with the Mac Pro but I REALLY wanted to get the 24" iMac. Thats all.

  • 3.25 GB Ram Limit: Does it still exist?

    Hello,
I know my 32-bit Vista Ultimate system allows using only about 3.25 GB of the 4GB Ram that is installed. This is a known issue.
However, I had sworn recently my system showed the full 4GB was being used, but after a recent OS reinstall, it lists only the 3.25GB Ram. Is this correct? Or in my previous case, had a driver update or OS patch been installed that I am now missing? Obviously I should've paid more attention.
    Thanks!

  • Visualize Ram / disk usage desktop application

    Hey everyone,
I want to experiment with visualizing realtime ram usage / disk usage in the desktop background, it should also be a bit interactive (when the user moves his mouse the color could change for example) i want to start very basic.
Can someone point me in the right direction how to begin this? I can program in C#/asp.net, i saw some f# examples but i don't even know how to run them :)
Tx so much for any guidance.

    Hello Borrie,
you can use the PerformanceCounter class to get current RAM usage and disk usage(see
    [1] for more information).
For the visualization, you can use the DataVisualizetion package from the WPF ToolKit [2].
There is a sample project about visualizing ram usage at
