Detail ViewObject in AppModule won't retrieve data

I have a viewobject called BidView that is called BidByPK in my AppModule. There is another viewobject called PoolDetailView and is a child of BidByPK and is called PoolDetailsForBid in the appmodule. (I have defined a viewlink between BidView and PoolDetailView)
If I test it through my application module, I get see the correct children for the parent record.
However when I execute the project the appmodule won't retrieve the children.
Once I set the where clause on BidByPK I DO get one row as expected but the PoolDetailByPK view object instance is always empty..

Jitendra,
Could you clarify the following statement?
However when I execute the project the appmodule won't retrieve the children.Did you make changes to master when you execute? Is this after you set the where clause or before you change the where clause on BidByPK?
Thanks,
Yvonne

  • How to expose master-detail ViewObject of AppModule to service interface.

    Hi all,
There is two VOs(master-detail), One is deptmentVO and the other is emloyeeInDeptVo. and a view link between departmentVO and employeeInDeptVO, the relationship is master detail.
Now, I want to expose the custom method to web service, i.e createEmployee(EmployeeInDeptViewRowImpl employee).
I perform the steps in Fusion ADF guide(+11.2.6 How to Support Nested Processing in Service-Enabled Master-Detail View Objects+).
such as generate the SDO, and set the SERVICE_PROCESS_CHILDREN=true of the viewlink property.
But when I publish the method in service interface, I cant get operation of the nested VO(employeeInDeptVO), only the master ViewObject is available.
Any one have suggestions on this.
    Thank in advance.

I have a similar scenario, and I'm seeing the same thing. The detail view isn't available for selection in the edit "Service View Instances" dialog of the "Service Interface" tab of the related application module. In my case, I have a view link based on an association that is rooted in a foreign key relationship between the underlying DB tables. The view link includes accessors in both the master and detail views. Based on the developer guide, I should be able to service enable the detail view, but this doesn't seem possible. My master view is service enabled, but my detail view isn't.
Has anyone ever successfully service enabled a detail view in a master-detail relationship?
    Thanks

  • Failed to retrieve data from the database. Details: [Database Vendor .....

    Hello,
I hope that is the right forum for this issue.
We have the application 'Lodestar' for some years.
The frond-end is ASP and the database is Oracle 9. Lodestar has its own backend language "Rules language". The crystal version is 10
Now we have a new version of Lodestar with ASP and ASP.NET, Oracle 11g and Crystal 11.
But when we run some reports with the new version we get the error "Failed to retrieve data from the database. Details: [Database Vendor Code: 1652 ] Failed to retrieve data from the database." When I google on this error then it seems that it has something todo with tablespace.
We have changed the tablespace volume from 32Gb to 100Gb, but we still get this error.
Has anybody an idea what the cause could be?

    Thanks all for you're reaction.
Oke we have changed the temp space from 30 Gigs --> 200 Gigs, but still the problem occurs. To make the temp tablespace is not the good direction, this is what the dba'er told me.
I'm not a guru with SQL/Oracle, but what for me hard to understand is" why does it work with the old version and not with the new version anymore?
It is a very difficult view with unions (I'm not the developer of this view), and I think I'm gonna try to break-down this view in different small parts and try to find where it goes wrong. I don't see any other way to investigate this problem.
(I see now the reaction of upul indika.)

Have you been able to resolve this yet?  I don't have any reference to Oracle error codes but would suspect a quick Google of something like 'Oracle error code 997' should result in good information, since it is an Oracle error...

  • Duplicate the details section when I retrieve data from Delivery notes

    Hey all.
I built a query that retrieve data from ODLN and it works fine.
But, when I have a Delivery Notes Document that has items from some different orders (that I copy them to Delivery notes of course) it duplicate my rows in the report
I run the query at SQL server and it's work fine (on the same document)
Is someone knows why this is happen?

  • ADF 10.1.2/10.1.3: Preventing eagerly querying of detail viewobjects

Ever since we started developer ADF applications we had issues with database queries being performed when we didn't expect it. It turned out that this is the default behavior of the master-detail synchronization in ADF 10.1.2 and 10.1.3 (haven't tested 11 yet). I've come up with a solution of our own, which I want to share with you all. I also want to check if anybody here sees any drawbacks in this approach.
First some background info: Whenever the master view object is requeried or navigates to another row it requeries all detail view objects that have been queried previously. Detail view objects that are in their initial/clean state are not touched.
So, on the very first page of your application you might need DEPT and EMP, and they are automatically queried (since the ADF bindings are refreshed). However, when you navigate to the next page it might only use the DEPT ViewObject. If you navigate to another DEPT, the EMP query is also re-executed even if this next page doesn't have a binding for EMP.
Steve Muench described a possible workaround (number 74) at
    http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/stories/2004/09/23/notYetDocumentedAdfSampleApplications.html
Although his solution works, we didn't really like it. Here's a summary of his approach:
    <ul>
<li> add a method <tt>enableDetailsForViewInstances()</tt> to the ADF BC Application Module. This accepts an array of view instance names representing the views used on the current page. It then enabled/disables the master-detail synchronization for each viewlink based so that only the viewlinks relevant to the current page are enabled.</li>
<li> add a custom <tt>JSFPageLifecycle</tt> class that overrides the <tt>prepareModel()</tt> method.
This methods assembles a list of all view instances used by the iterator bindings of the current page. It then calls the method on the ADF BC Application Module to enable/disable the viewlinks</li>
    </ul>
The Application Module disables master-detail synchronization by calling <tt>removeMasterRowSetIterator()</tt> on the detail viewobject. This removes the master-RowSetIterator from the default RowSetIterator of the detail VO, effectively breaking the link. The old master-RowSetIterator is kept in a HashMap. Later, when both the master and detail VO are used on the same page the link is restored by calling <tt>setMasterRowSetIterator()</tt> on the detail with the master-RowSetIterator stored in the HashMap.
The main objection we had to this approach is that you are pushing the relevant viewobjects from the View layer to the Model layer. We would like the Model not to be too knowledgable about the View layer. Also, this means things break if you get a hold of a detail viewobject some other way, for instance by calling findViewObject on the AppModule or by having an old reference to the detail VO. If you get hold of such a VO instance without calling <tt>enableDetailsForViewInstances()</tt> it would not have a master-rowsetiterator and an exception is thrown about the bind parameter from the viewlink being null.
I tried to find a solution that is transparent to the View layer or other client. I wanted a solution where the eager master-detail navigation is disabled and the detail would only be requeried/refreshed when explicitely called for. This could either be your custom code calling the ViewObject or the JSF View layer having an ADF binding to the ViewObject. Basically I want to try to reset the detail ViewObject to its initial/clean state as the master VO won't requery the detail VO's that are in the initial stage. It only requeries the detail VOs that have a default RowSet and RowSetIterator.
After quite some digging around I came up with:
    <ul>
<li>clear/close the <tt>RowSetIterator</tt> on the detail <tt>ViewObject</tt> when navigating to another row in the master <tt>ViewObject</tt>. To do this, we use a <tt>DetailClearingListener</tt> class that implements the <tt>RowSetListener</tt> interface.</li>
<li>The <tt>DetailClearingListener</tt> class implements the <tt>navigated(NavigationEvent event)</tt> method. This gets executed when the (master) ViewObject navigates to another row. In this <tt>navigate()</tt> method I iterate over <tt>ViewObject.getViewLinks()</tt> to find all the links where the navigating ViewObject is the source (=master). Then I look at the ViewObject from the destination (=detail) part of the link.
For each detail ViewObject I get the RowSetIterators by calling <tt>ViewObject.getRowSetIterators()</tt>. Then I close all these RowSetIterators by calling <tt>closeRowSetIterator()</tt> on them</li>
<li>The tricky part was to properly register this listener with the master ViewObject. As it turns out, you can call <tt>addListener()</tt> on the ViewObject, but in fact it is just relaying this to the default RowSetIterator of the ViewObject. It's the RowSetIterator that registers the listeners and calls them when required. This proved to be a problem, when a ViewObject is both the detail in a master-detail relationship and also the master in (another) master-detail relationship.
With the DetailClearingListeners in place, the first (highest) master-detail relationship will close the default RowSetIterator on it's detail VO when navigating the master. Unfortunately this also destroys the registered listeners on this default RowSetIterator that need to managed the lower master-detail relationship.
The only workable solution we could find is to override the <tt>getDefaultRowSet()</tt> method in the ViewObject and register the listener there. This means that whenever the default rowset (and rowsetiterator) is requested, we make sure we register the DetailClearingListener before returning the rowset. Since we can't test if the listener is already registered it does mean we frequently register the listener even when it is not necessary. Luckily enough the internal implemention does prevent duplicates and will ignore any new listeners that are already registered. This is why we are creating only a single instance of the DetailClearingListener and store it in a private member variable of the ViewObject. That way, we use the same DetailClearingListener instance each time and duplicates are prevented.</li>
<li>The big benefit of this approach is that only relies on changes to the ViewObject. This can easily be implemented by giving all your ViewObjects a common superclass that implements this solution. In most cases, you already have an application- or enterprise-wide ViewObjectImpl class that is the basis for all your ViewObjects. In that case, you can just implement the solution in that global class.</li>
    </ul>
We've tested this solution in ADF 10.1.2 and 10.1.3 applications and found dramatic performance gains. We had one application were page requests took 10-15 seconds once you visited all pages in the application (thereby activating each ViewObject at least once). It was not uncommon for a navigation to another row in the master ViewObject to trigger 70-100 queries, since all the detail (and detail-detail, etc) ViewObject where eagerly requeried. With this new approach, page response times have dropped below 1 second.
So, at least in our situaton, this solution seems to work. I'm just wondering what the downside of closing the RowSetIterator is. There must be some drawbacks to this approach, but it seems I can't find any so far. Hopefully some of you can suggest what the danger/drawback is in closing a RowSetIterator.

Shay's question about experience is a good one. If you're not already proficient at UIX then I would choose JSF. If you've done very little J2EE/Java/JSP/HTML development work, you've got a couple of months of ramping up to be able to accomplish much tangible.
I've been working on a project for a couple of months using ADF BC on the backend and JSF/ADF Faces for the View. The enticement was built on the expectation that 10.1.3. would be going into production very soon, and it seems that this is true, from what little hints and clues I can pick up from these tight-mouthed Oracle guys. ;-)
The disadvantage of going that way is that the documentation sucks for doing anything but the most basic, declarative user interface development, especially if you want to use ADF Faces (there's some decent resource out in the world for JSF development, although even that is pretty thin). This is promised to be much improved with the production release.
For the business services development, unless you already know ADF Business Components I strongly recommend grabbing a copy of the Oracle JDeveloper 10g Handbook. It fills in many of the gaps that otherwise leave you at a loss for how to tie the backend pieces together.
    Good luck!

  • Show master and detail viewobjects in the same jsp

I have two viewobjects which have a master-detail relationship (a viewlink between them).
What I want to do is to show both the master and the detail data in the same jsp, i.e for every row in the master viewobject I want to show all the rows in the detail viewobject.
I tried to drop the master vo on the page from the component palette and then the detail vo next to the master vo, but then only the first row in the detail vo is shown on the page. I want all of them to be shown.
Can anyone please point me in the right direction here?
Ps: I'm using JDeveloper version 9.0.5.2
    Thanx a lot
    Tom

I dropped both viewobjects as read-only tables and they both have the rangesize set to -1.
I think I made myself a bit unclear when asking my question. I do not want a "normal" master-detail view in my jsp where you see one masterrow and all the detailrows. I want my page to show all the masterrows with all their corresponding detail rows listed under the master row.
The pseudocode may look like this:
for each row in MasterViewObject loop
    <<display data in MasterViewObject>>
for each row in DetailViewObject loop
    <<display data in DetailViewObject>>
    end inner loop
    end outer loop
As you see I have a double loop here. Is somehing like this possible without "manually" doing all the stuff?
    Thanx

  • Retrieve data from a synonym in oracle database through db connect

    Hi Everyone,
I have created certain synonym for some tables in oracle. I want to retrieve data from it through db connect but where through source system and then selecting database tables, only tables and views are available.
Synonyms are not available to create data sources and retrieve the data from it. Why is it so. Is this a limitation of db connect.
Can anyone please let me know about it.
    Thanks,
    Joshua.

    Hi,
You want to import data from an external Oracle database into your BW 3.X. To do this, you can connect the external database to the BW 3.X release as a source system using the external database connect. BW 3.X here represents BW 3.0, BW 3.1 and BW 3.5 because in other (DB relevant) parts, all 3 versions are based on the same source code.
    General information
The above function allows you to load data from an external Oracle database (not a BW database) into your BW 3.0 system.
There may also be constellations which cannot be used directly through the DB Connect access. However, it should be possible to find an adequate, customer-specific solution for most of these scenarios.
In such situations, the resulting work falls into the area of Consulting and cannot be handled via Support.
Successful implementation of a connection requires corresponding expertise and experience in the use of the source database in the areas:
                    - Tools
                    - SQL syntax
                    - DB-specific functions
Corresponding knowledge of the source application is also required to ensure that semantically relevant data arrives in the BW system.
    Procedure
You should execute the following steps to connect the source system (Q) to the BW system (BW):
Installing the client software on an BW application server
Of course, you only need to install the client software if you are using BW with a non-Oracle database.
Use the Oracle setup program on the database CD (runInstaller on Unix) to start the OracleInstaller. Follow the program instructions and the DB installation instructions to install the Oracle Client software on BW.
Testing connection setup from BW to Q
After you install the client software on BW, try to set up a connection from BW to the server on Q. You may need to adjust the tnsnames.ora or sqlnet.ora files for this, to introduce the Oracle systems (to which contact should be made) to BW. You can test the connection by executing the command "tnsping QDB" on BW to check whether the client has established contact to the QDB database on the Q system.
    Creating a separate U user in Q
We recommend that you create a separate U user in Q for connection to BW. This means that authorization and administration questions can be solved centrally.
Displaying data sources in Q for the U user
To provide U data for users other than U, you can create views on other user tables as user U:
CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW viewname AS
                           SELECT * FROM QDB.tablename
You may have to grant SELECT privileges to user U in the QDB schema:
GRANT select ON QDB.tablename TO U
Of course, you can also restrict or reformat data in the view arrangement (for example, change from internal date format into the SAP date format). JOIN operations using several tables are also available.
!!! Synonyms do not yet work!!!
Synonyms that you can create as described below are another option for providing a complete table for the user U:
                           CREATE SYNONYM synoname FOR QDB.tablename
!!! Synonyms do not (yet) work!!!
After you have displayed the require data for user U, you can simply use
                           SELECT * FROM <view or table>
on the Q system to check which data is returned.
You can now open a link to Q as user U in the BW system with SQLPLUS and check, using the same SELECT, whether this data is also seen in the Oracle client. If this is not the case, there is probably a connection problem.
Creating a connection from BW to Q in BW
Including data sources of user U user in Q in BW.
    Solution
Supported BW, Basis and BW 3.0B database versions, Basis 6.20 Support Package 2 (or higher)
Oracle 8.1 (or higher, see below)
    Possible problems
    - Synonyms do not (yet) work!
Up to now, only tables and views have been used as data sources for the DB Connect from the R3 Basis. As soon as synonyms are also used in the Basis, you will be able to convert created views (or even replicated tables) to synonyms as a workaround.
With Basis 6.40 at the earliest, therefore as of BW 3.5, you will also be able to use synonyms. Until then, the following will help:
CREATE VIEW <view_on_synonym> AS SELECT * FROM <synonym>
    - The source DB must have at least the release version of the BW DB.
Oracle only ensures the support of client-server links if the version of the client is not higher than that of the server. So if BW has Oracle version 8.1 and, as in the case of Dbconnect, is run as a client against the server of the source database, the source database must have at least release Oracle 8.1 or higher.
Of course, you have the option to install the Oracle client software of a lower version and then use this for the DB connect. This is also the procedure used to work with a DB connect on external databases of other vendors.
Furthermore, the implementation of the DBconnect function in BW uses SAP Basis functions. Specifications of Oracle 8.1 database catalogs are used here. The source database must therefore have at least Version 8.1.
    - Oracle Client Software Version
If you want to connect from an Oracle BW DB to an Oracle source DB, for the DB connect you naturally use the client software that you already installed on each application server.
If you want to connect from a non-Oracle BW DB to an Oracle source DB, check item 3 of note 521230 to see which Oracle client software version is released with your BW R3 kernel and use this version.
    - Date and time fields in Oracle and their conversion into SAP-compatible column formats
    Example with a DATE field:
Since a SAP table does not have a DATE field (date values are NUMC(8) and time specifications are NUMC(6)), we will use the Oracle DBA_TABLES system table as an example.
        SQL> desc dba_tables;
The Oracle DBA_TABLES system table has a LAST_ANALYZED field. This is a DATE type field and is recognized as a date field of 7 characters by DBA_CONNECT. However, the import does not work because the DATE is a 7-byte conglomerate of "...century, year, month, date, hour, minute and second." (extract from the Oracle documentation).
To make this DATE field legible for DB connect, you must use the TO_CHAR function in a VIEW. This should display the following examples:
    SQL> select LAST_ANALYZED from dba_tables
          where table_name like 'RS%' and rownum < 10 ;
The formatting used here is the default used implicitly by SQLPLUS.
    SQL> select  to_char(LAST_ANALYZED,'YYYYMMDD') as dat from dba_tables where table_name like 'RS%' and rownum < 10 ;
The result now has the SAP compatible format YYYYMMDD and should be loaded correctly by the DB connect as a date.
    SQL> select  to_char(LAST_ANALYZED,'HH24MISS') as tim from dba_tables where table_name like 'RS%' and rownum < 10 ;
The result now has the SAP compatible format HHMMSS and should be loaded correctly by the DB connect as a time.
You can use the following example for more detailed experiments:
    SQL> select  to_char(
           TO_DATE('03-FEB-2001 04:05:06','DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS'),
           'YY-MM-DD HH24-MI-SS') as datim from dual;
    with the result:
      DATIM
      01-02-03 04-05-06
When you create a VIEW and use the TO_CHAR function (or other functions), you should easily be able to avoid problems with the interpretation of date/time specifications (and other reformatting).
Details about the functions and the formats are contained in the Oracle documentation.
    - Special characters
A words that contain special characters can only be imported correctly if the code pages in BW and in the source system are identical. If the code pages are not the same, DB Connect can be used if the characters to be imported appear under the first 127 characters of the character set.
The use of multibyte code pages in the source system for saving data using character sets with more than 256 characters (Kanji, Katakana, Hiragana, Korean, Chinese, Tagalog, Khmer, Arabic, Cherokee, and so on) can cause the characters to become corrupt.
For questions concerning the code pages, also refer to the FAQ note 606359 and question/answer 19 that appears there.

  • Retrieving data from a BW Query runs endlessly in Crystal

    Hi,
I have installed Crystal Reports 2008 SP2 with SAP BO Integration Kit 3.1. When I create a new file from a SAP BW 7 Query I everything works fine (field selction etc) until I run it and try to extract data from the database. I can enter the parameters and enter the login data for the BW connection. After that I can see the entry "retrieving data from the database" in the status bar and that's it. The screen kind of freezes and I don't get any result. I can wait for 2 hrs no result. In the end I cannot even get back to screen. I have to close it through taskmanager.
I have tested the query with transaction RSRT and the same parameter value I chose in Crystal reports and there I get a result. Therefore the entry values should be fine.
Did I install anything wrong, did somebody encounter this problem as well?
Thanks a lot in advance for any help provided
    Kind Regards,
    Melanie

    Hi,
I entered the SQL statement in transaction MDXTest but it is running since 7 minutes.
    >> Transaction MDXTEST has an option to generate a test sequence and is not there to test SQL statements. You need to enter a valid MDX statement.
    Function module "/Crystal/MDX_GET_STREAM_INFO" not found
    >> then I would suggest you make sure that all the Transports from the SAP Integration Kit have been properly imported - see the Installation Guide for the SAP Integration Kit for details.

  • I want to use Get Panel Image in Labview 5.0.1 and need details on how to save the BMP data generated

I am trying to generate an application that saves a copy of its front panel on completion. This is easy to do using an invoke node with Print VI to HTML but this does not work in an .exe format. I have seen elsewhere that you have to use the Get Panel Image method, but no details are supplied in LV 5.0.1 documentation of how to use the "image" data (1-D Unsigned Byte array) that is generated. I want to save this in a format that can then be read as a bitmap in any standard graphics package. Any assistance?

    Hi,
If you'd upgrade to LV5.1 or 6 you could use the 'standard' vi's for this.
You need a VI called "Write BMP File.vi". It's not shipped with LV5.0.1.
This vi only uses 3 subVI's, so perhaps someone at NI can convert it and
send it to you (sorry, I won't, it's copywrited).
If you cannot get this VI anywhere, you'll need to figure out the BMP file
format yourself. It's not too complicated, but still could take some days.
Perhaps someone figured it out before LV5.1 was released.
    Regards,
    Wiebe.

  • Failure to install SQL Server 2012 SP1 CU8/9 with a "Failed to retrieve data for this request." error

    Hi all,
Has anyone come across SQL Server 2012 SP1 CU8/9 failing to install with a “Failed to retrieve data for this request.” error.
The error is too generic for a useful search on web, for me at least anyway.
Had no problems patching a whole bunch of other servers in the same environment.
I’m no good at reading these error logs. For some reason the primary replica is referenced in the detailed log???
The CU8/9 patch has been run by both Domain Admins and local Admin with no luck.
We are trying to patch a secondary failover replica. (SharePoint 2013 is installed on this server.)

    Hello SQL Ranger,
Thanks for posting the detailed log. I dont have exact solution for this but I can give you some hint what could be reason patch has failed below message points to fact that there is some issue with account which is used to install CU patch.Have alook at
below log.It says that when patch was trying to get details from other node in cluster it was not able to.

IMO I strongly feel it is issue with the account. Microsoft has also documented about this for SQL Server 2008 .Have a look at following links
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-US;2000257
Please also assign privilege mentioned in below link
    http://www.bradg.co.za/?p=12
    Hope this helps
