Details of web.xml

This is what I have written in my version of web.xml,
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
<!DOCTYPE web-app
     PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Web Application 2.3//EN"
    "http://java.sun.com/dtd/web-app_2_3.dtd">
<web-app>
<jsp-file>/sampleapp/login.jsp</jsp-file>
</web-app>But on typing http://localhost:8080/sampleapp
I get the directory structure.Why's that?
help appreciated
As

First, don't use /sampleapp/login.jsp... just use
login.jsp. The purpose of the welcome file list
(which I think is a little misleading due to it's
name) is to define one or more default files to use
when the URL refers to a directory. Instead of giving
the directory listing (which can be disabled
elsewhere), it'll give the first of the files in the
list (there can be more then one <welcome-file> in
<welcome-file-list>). It's not the file to show for
any URL that is a directory, it's the file to look for
in the specified directory.
I did change the jsp-file tag to welcome-filetag,...
Did you include the <welcome-file-list> tags around
the <welcome-file> tags?Thanks for the reply.I did include the <welcome-file-list> tag around the <welcome-file> tag and changed the contents of the web.xml to include only login.jsp.But it still gives me the directory structure.Any help

  • Eclipse, WTP, Servlets and Web.xml

    I wonder if you could help me.
    I am using Eclipse and Web Tools Platform.
    In eclipse, when I create a Servlet, I believe the servlet details (such as name, class, url-pattern) should be included into web.xml file automatically. However, this is not happening.
    Would you know how I can configure Eclipse and WTP to automatically write Servlets details into web.xml files.
    Thanls

    Thanks for the reply
    I have Eclipse 3.2 and WTP 1.5
    Yes, I am creating my Servlet in a project under the Dynamic Web Projects.
    I deploy my WAR file using the 'Export' menu.
    Now, I have manually added the servlet details into the web.xml file:
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name>HelloWorld</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>com.mycom.HelloWorld</servlet-class>
    </servlet>
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>HelloWorld</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/HelloWorld</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    I am accessing the servlet as:
    http://localhost:9090/MyFirstServlet/HelloWorld
    But I still get HTTP 404 error when accessign HelloWorld servlet. I am not sure what I am missing.
    Thanks

  • Client-cert auth impl in web.xml does not work in Oracle Application Server

    Hi,
    I am new to implementing security features on the web applications.. I have developed a new web service using jdev1012 and deployed in OAS 10.1.2. Its working fine according to the business requirements, but I am in need of implementing client-cert authentication to enable the web service available to only those who have client certificate.
    My server details are:
    Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2)
    Server certificate is in place and SSL mode have been already enabled.. able to access my web service through https://<mydomain.com>/myws/TreqWS as well able to see the WSDL file through https://<mydomain.com>/myws/TreqWS?WSDL.
    I tried to include the following in my web.xml file as part of implementing CLIENT-CERT authentication.
    <security-constraint>
    <display-name>SecurityConstraint</display-name>
    <web-resource-collection>
    <web-resource-name>WSCollection</web-resource-name>
    <url-pattern>/*</url-pattern>
    </web-resource-collection>
    <user-data-constraint>
    <transport-guarantee>CONFIDENTIAL</transport-guarantee>
    </user-data-constraint>
    </security-constraint>
    <login-config>
    <auth-method>CLIENT-CERT</auth-method>
    <realm-name>WSCollection</realm-name> <!-- am not sure about this realm-name and its purpose -->
    </login-config>
    It is not woking as expected, though I have restarted my oc4j container after including this content to the web.xml file. i.e, I am able to invoke the web service though my sample java client program, though I donot have client certificate/keystore.
    I believe I am missing something..Can anyone help me in this regard to implement CLIENT-CERT authentication successfully?
    Thanks,
    Ms

    I am having the same problem with doc and xsl. I have added this
    <mime-mapping>
    <extension>xls</extension>
    <mime-type>application/vnd.ms-excel</mime-type>
    </mime-mapping>
    <mime-mapping>
    <extension>doc</extension>
    <mime-type>application/msword</mime-type>
    </mime-mapping>
    to my web.xml. I even restarted the server. I still see doc and xsl in binary.
    Is there some other setting that needs to take place?
    I am using WL6.1 with fixpack 1.
    I can see the doc and excel files in the browser if I don't go through the weblogic
    server. That just confirms it's not my browser.

  • How to configure ADF application to use OAM Identity Assertion ? web.xml

    We have a web application developed using ADF (application development framework) and deployed on WebCenter 11.1.1.2 (weblogic 10.3.2)
    OID Authentication and OAM identity assertion is configured in WebLogic 10.3.2 .
    How to configure security in ADF application (web.xml or weblogic.xml) so that it uses OAM identity assertion (already configured as authentication providers in weblogic server)
    Any pointers or documentation so that application (developed using ADF) check for identity tocken and verifies it with one of identity assertion providers.

    John,
    I have to concur. With OAM you don't need this. OAM intercepts the calls and inserts a cookie for WLS to get user information from.
    I strongly advise to go through the above mention OFM Security Guide. Esp. Chapter 10 tells you in every detail how to implement OAM SSO with WLS (with or without OHS as a proxy).
    Reading this chapter saves you time and turnarounds on this topic...

  • Problem in Configuring web.xml or portlet.xml

    Hi all,
    We are developing an application on the VAP 7 using Portlets.
    Can some one tell me, how to trigger a servlet from the Portlet? Rather how do i configure the web.xml or the Portlet.xml to make it identify the servlet that has to be called on load of the jsp.
    I have tried this the regular jsp and xml way (i.e. without using the Portlets and calling it from the JSP)
    I have the web.xml where i have the mapping for the single jsp ( this has the call servlet within the SRC attribute of the IMG tag. ) , also with the mapping details for the servlet to be called and this way it works fine there.
    How do i do the same for Portlets.?

    are you very new to servlets..
    ok then.

  • Success_URL in web.xml not working - Need help

    Hi:
    I developed my whole application in Jdeveloper 10.1.3.2 and all the security are done through custom module. Everything is working fine except one of the part that is success_url in web.xml.
    1. There are total 10 pages in my application independent of each other.
    2. I configured the custom login procedure and it is working fine.
    3. From Jdeveloper if I run any page (i.e. one of 10 pages) it is prompting me to login and after login it is redirecting to the page I ran.
    My issue is that after the login is completed as in step 3, I want the page to be redirected to predefined page called UserResp.jspx. I don't want to redirect to the page from where the login page was called. As per the notes in the ADF document, I configured the success_url in the adfAuthentication servlet as below. But after login it is not redirecting to the success_url but it is redirecting to the page from where the login was prompted.
    Do I need to perform any other step for this success_url to work. Could you please guide.

    Hi All:
    Thanks for all your help regarding the adfAuthentication success_url. Now I am able to configure to make this work. But now I am facing another issue i.e. I am getting 401 Not authorized message when the success_url is pointed to the jspx page.
    Note: I am using custom login module similar to DBProcOraDataSourceLoginModule so my roles are stored in the custom Role class. So I am not sure how to pass this role info to the security in ADF in order to authorize the page to be viewed.
    Could you please help and can you point me to any specific link.
    Thanks & Regards

  • Web.xml clarification

    Hello,
    in a servlet we would like to read web.xml sections which are not accessible through the servlet/context-getParameter methods. So we wrote a utility to get access to these elements. The problem is, that we receive an error, if the parser has no access to the DTD defined in the DOCUMENT section of the web.xml file (which is normal in an intranet).
    Error: javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilder.parse(Unknown Source)
    If we remove the DOCUMENT part then the parser works correctly but the application does not start and we receive
    SAXParseException: Element type "web-app" must be declared.
    We do not get this error even if there is no access to the Internet!!! How does the application server handle this situation?
    Question: What is the usual proceeding
    a) make a copy of the DTD file and store it locally?
    b) is it possible to switch the validation off (I tried this and failed code below).
    Any suggestions and clarifications welcome.
    Regards, Rainer
    ----------------------- code snippet ------------------------
    DocumentBuilderFactory factory = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
    factory.setIgnoringComments(true); //No need for comments
    factory.setIgnoringElementContentWhitespace(true); //No need for WS
    factory.setNamespaceAware(true); //No need for Namespaces
    factory.setValidating(false); //No need for DTD ??????? DocumentBuilder builder = factory.newDocumentBuilder();
    Document document = builder.parse( FileName );

    You've added these to a <servlet> element right? And I'm assuming that this isnt' your servlet or you'd have seen them being used in the code.
    Basically, they're initialization parameters that are passed to your servlet via the ServletConfig object and which you can access.
    For example, you could define your DB URL ( though that would probably be better off as a <context-param> instead ) here, in your web.xml and then use the string in your servlet instead of hardcoding it. This way, changes would be easier.
    In your case, you're adding two parameters, debug=3 and detail=3. When you use ServletConfig.getInitParameter("debug") or ServletConfig.getInitParameter("detail"), you'll get values of 3 and 3.

    ignoring C:\JDeveloper9iRC\jdev\mywork\MIS_IntranetWS\mis_intranet\public_html\WEB-INF\web.xml; not on sourcepath
    I cannot deploy but for what reason I don't know. Am wondering if this is related at all
    Thanks

    The web.xml file is the standard deployment descriptor for a J2EE web application (or "web module" when it is part of a J2EE Application). The full details of what the web.xml is for is described in the Servlet 2.2 spec (if you're using J2EE 1.2) or the Servlet 2.3 spec (if you're using J2EE 1.3). You can download the Servlet spec from http://java.sun.com/products/servlet/download.html
    The web.xml file is used when deploying a WAR file to a J2EE app server. However the message you cite isn't indicating a deployment failure. When you get a deployment failure, you should see a message in the JDev Log Window indicating the reason for the failure. Be sure the Log Window is visible by selecting View | Log Window from the main menu.

  • SDK : web.xml file, what for ?

    Hello,
    I designed a new web service using the SDK, I noticed a file named web.xml, with some authority settings in it.
    What's the purpose of such file ? Is it to define which roles is required to be able to call a WS ?
    Thanks

    Thank Ivan, can you give me more details ?
    Here is my file content :

    What the purpose of the <role-name> node ? Is it referring a NW role needed to call WS ?

  • Using error code in web.xml

    hi I have following servlet ..
    sevlet :
    PrintWriter out = res.getWriter();
    out.println("<p>I will throw a ServletEexception now....</p>");
    //res.sendError(404, "messagge");
    In the above code res.sendError(404, "messagge"); is commented and i get the result as expected, when i call above servlet.
    After that i un-comment res.sendError(404, "messagge"); and get error.jsp, since web.xml contains :
    <error-page>
    <error-code>404</error-code>
    <location>/error.jsp</location>
    </error-page>
    But if i open a different browser and access the above servlet , then i am getting The page cannot be found.

    Hi my web.xml error entry looks like
    <error-page>
         <error-code>404</error-code>
         <location>/404.jsp</location>
    </error-page>
    Want I want to do is that is user asks for WEB_URL/anypage.jsp or anypage.html
    and if the page does not exist in the web application then the control shall be transfered to the jsp page which will display the error details (and do some processing as well)

  • Problems with jsp-error page in web.xml

    Hello everybody, I have a confusing problem concerning the use of jsps as error pages for 404-errors.
    I inserted the following lines in my web.xml file:
    <error-page>
    <error-code>404</error-code>
    <location>/personal404.jsp</location>
    </error-page>
    The problem is: when an 404 occurs, instead of showin the personal404.jsp, the browser tells me that it tries to download a file which it can't (it tries to download the mis-spelled file). When I try to redirect the 404 to a static html-page, as in
    <error-page>
    <error-code>404</error-code>
    <location>/personal404.html</location>
    </error-page>
    everything works fine.
    Please, does anybody have any idea or suggestion, what I am doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance,
    Sebastian

    Hi Ivan,
    I tried it, but there wasn't any difference.
    I'll try to explain in more detail what happens:
    Imagine my application has the following root-path
    http://myServerName:port/mainRoot/
    When I try the following URL:
    http://myServerName:port/mainRoot/pageThatDoesNotExist.jsp, the browser tells me, it tries to download the file pageThatDoesNotExist.jsp from myServerName and that it can't find that file.
    The same happens, when I type http://myServerName:port/mainRoot/pathThatDoesNotExist/pageThatDOESExist.jsp, except that the browser tries to download the file pageThatDOESExist.jsp which (again) it can't.
    I have located the files 404.jsp and 404.html in the same directory, so I don't think this is a path-related problem, because everything works fine, when I specify the 404.html as the target error page (i.e. the browser displays the 404.html when I type the URLs shown above).
    I don't know if I'm making this clear, but maybe you get the idea.
    Sebastian

  • Error deploying when web.xml contains similiar security-constraint elements

    I am receiving an error when I include similiar security constraints in my web.xml descriptor.  I actually have many security-constraint elements defined but I have narrowed it down to the following two that appear kind of similiar which are causing the problem:

    Has anyone seen anything like this?  Have I defined something wrong in my web.xml?  The exact same web.xml file does work in several other application servers.

    I am not aware of such document for the preview release.
    About the concrete problem your investigation was enough detailed so we managed to reproduce and fix it.
