Detect server node processing a http request

Is there any way to detect which server node is answering a http request? For debug purposes I would like to add the cluster element to the output of a jsp. Maybe it is also possible to force a jsp being processed by a given node?
Thanks in advance for your answers!
Best regards,
Frank

Hi Violeta,
Thanks for your answer! This has been very helpful indeed.
However, I´m still a bit puzzled. Replacing the saplb cookie forces the load balancer to use the given server, but the JSESSIONID does not change. Looking at the application data I know that I´m talking to a different server, but I still don´t seem to have a way to tell which server ansered - except my expectation that the saplb cookie might have been taken into account by the server.
Isn´t there a more sophisticated way to access this kind of information? Escpecially, getting a list of all available servers would be great, as this would allow to choose the server having a look at.
Best regards,
Frank

    Hi Ivan!
    The fact the this code worked fine yesterday or is working fine in Dev but not in another system proves nothing. On the contrary, the stack trace confirms that the problem stems from your custom code com.vatti.mes.common.web.BaseServlet.doError(BaseServlet.java:61). The obvious thing is that the method here is called "doError" that likely means you either face some error there or intentionally generate error message. After that the system tries to log the error message but it looks as if com.sap.me.frame.Utils.getStackTrace method gets null as an input parameter e. How does it get triggered and what is passed into - this is a question to your developers.

  • EP7.0 - Adding server nodes (processes) and managing all the logs

    First, can anyone confirm whether the Template Configuration Tool is used with Portal 7.0 (NW2004s)?  All of the documentation I find is for Portal 6.0.  If you use the Template Configuration Tool, it will match the resources available on your server to the type of J2EE you will be running which is the route I prefer to take.  Otherwise, I'll add the nodes manually with configtool.
    Second, is it a best practice to just stick to one server node (server0) on your DEV system?  I would think that would make analyzing all of those fun logs much easier.
    Third, are there any best practices for managing all of those logs if you start adding additional nodes.  I have server0 on the QA system with 2048MB of Heap.  I plan to add server1, server2 and server3 ... all with 2048MB of Heap.  But then the number of logs is 4 times for everything.  The Portal Tuning guide suggests turning off unnecessary logging which I will do but our developers want a convenient way to do research and we don't want them overwhelmed with logs.
    We are setting up Solution Manager Diagnostics now so I haven't seen it's functionality.  Will it make log anaysis more streamlined and easier to find relevant data even if you have 4 server nodes?

    Hi Richard,
    A1: NO!!! do not use the Template Configuration Tool on NW7.0 as it sets properties that are not valid or optimal anymore.
    A2: I don't know if there is a best practice about it but I do know that it is best practice to have atleast 2 servernodes per instance because this helps you top optimize your resources when 1 servernode is in Full Garbage Collection the other still can use the CPU to process (Presented on SAP Insider Infra & Admin in Orlando 2008).
    A3: Regarding the logging This is just how it is made... every servernode logs for itsself...
    Use NetWeaver Administrator (/nwa) to auto consoldate the loggin info. It's slow but eventualy it does the job. You can give developers an NWA read-only role (shipped by default) to look at the logs.
    A4: SMD makes central monitoring and diagnostic possible for your complete landscape.
    You can configure a central NWA on the SMD host. The solution as proposed by A3 is already helping you to manage your issue (consolidating logs of multiple servernodes.. >2 )
    Good Luck!

  • How to detect the two Enter in  HTTP Request Line"

    I'm writing a HTTP Server. I want to ask how can I detect the "two <Enter> press" when the client finishes his request.
    Suppose the client typed the following:
    GET /xxx/index.html<ENTER>
    <ENTER>
    (Response header and Entity body here)
    if the user typed:
    GET /xxx/index.html<ENTER>
    If-Modified-Since:xxxxxx<ENTER>
    (Response header and Entity body here)
    How can I solve the above two cases?
    I have used the folowing statement but it fails, why?
    BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(socket.getInputStream( )));
    String request = null;
    request = in.readLine();
    Another problem in my WebServerThread is the output to the screen as shown in below:
    java.net.SocketException: Connection reset by peer: JVM_recv in socket input stream read
    at java.net.SocketInputStream.socketRead(Native Method)

    A second <ENTER> following directly after another will appear as empty line when you use in.readLine().

  • Cannot process an HTTP request to servlet [DTRServlet]

    Hi NWDI experts,
    I just installed a completely new NWDI 7.4 SR1 (SP05) on Windows 2012 R2 and Oracle 11.2.0.4.
    When I try to access DTR I receive error "500 Internal Server Error". In defaultTrace the system reports problems with initialization of DTR. Multiple entries exists in the various log-files and traces, which concerns the problem. I've therefore attached logs and traces to this discussion. After downloading the file rename it to .zip instead of .txt.
    The error seems to be caused by a NullPointerException in oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleStatement.m_batchItems.
    I've searched extensively on SCN, Notes and Google, but have not been able to find any answers to what the problem is. Also I've looked at note 774339 - Internal Server Error in DTR, but have not been able to find a useful solution.
    Has anyone experienced the same error and how where you able to solve it?
    Best regards,
    Jacob

    Good morning Ervin,
    Thank you very much for your answer. I had a suspicion that the error was deeper in the belly of the system and not caused by DTR.
    In the note you mention, it says that a new version of Oracle Client software will be delivered, which should fix the error, but do you have an idea on when it will be available for SAP customers to download?
    Just as a temporary workaround I've replaced the ojdbc6.jar for 11.2.0.4 with the one from 11.2.0.3 and I'm now able to access and browse the DTR.
    Best regards,
    Jacob

  • Application Web Service Control Manager detected AWEBSVC is not responding to HTTP requests

    Hi,
    We are using SCCM 2012 sp1 cu5 with one primary in the datacenter and a number of local DP's which are presently servicing 200 users, but will rise to 12,000. The Application Catalogue is installed on the primary server.
    Once a day we get the above error and the message id is 8101, and sometimes a user will have to click on install twice, with the first one failing (the ones that fail are normally with dependencies which are quite large in size around 250MB)
    I'm just wondering if this is something I should be concerned about, especially since we will be ramping up user numbers in the next few weeks, and if it could be down to volume of traffic, although the apps are downloaded to the users local DP.
    Also, does this design look suitable to service this amount of users, or should I have local application catalogues? The WAN bandwith between the datacenter and the user sites has recently been upgraded and is pretty fast.
    Thanks
    Jaz

    Hi Torsten,
    Message ID is in the SMS_AWEBSVC_CONTROL_MANAGER status log and equates to "Application Web Service Manager detected AWEBSVC is not responding to HTTP requests. The http error is 12002.
    Then, about 1 hr later in the same monitoring log I get Message ID 8102 "Application Web Service Control Manger detected AWEBSVC is responding to HTTP requests.
    At the moment it isn't doing this very often, just once a day at different times normally, but it has also logged this a couple of times as well. I guess it may correspond to multiple users accessing the web portal at multiple times, but wondered if
    anyone else has seen this behaviour and how it was fixed.
    Thanks
    Jaz

  • DTRServlet - 500 Internal Server Error is returned for HTTP request

    Hi everybody,
    I've got a Problem with my DTR.
    Recently we've set up the new CE 7.2 System.
    The DTR has run until about 3 hours ago.
    I don't know what I've done that this error occurs, but I'm nearly shure that I haven't done anything that depends on the dtr.
    I went through the set up wizzard of "Connect Design Time for Visual Composer with NWDI" again, but nothing changed.
    Can you please help me with this issue?!
    Thank you and best regards

    Hello Julian
    This is a known problem.
    Cause
    - A user may have been added to a group in another ldap tree with a name, that is already existing.
    - When DTR retrieves the group from UME, we get 2 similar group names, but the groups may be different.
    - DTR cannot handle this and throws "Internal Server error"
    Resolution
    If you change parameter "ume.ldap.unigue_grup_attribute" to 'uid', DTR doesn't use the groupname,
    but the group-uid, therefore the group is unique.
    1. open Visual Administrator
    2. choose Services
    3. choose UME Provider
    4. Reset "ume.ldap.unigue_grup_attribute" with 'uid'
    5. restart the system
    Thanks
    Kenny.

  • Connecting specific server node from portal

    Hello,
    I am trying to access specific server node with URL "http://<Server>:<Port Number>/irj/portal;sapj2ee_irj=<Node ID>"
    I am able to access portal page through the above URL, but even while entering incorrect Node ID, portal page is accessible which should not happen ideally.
    I am trying to configure an alerting mechanism so that I can know which server node is up and whiich one is down when users try accessing portal.
    Please provide me steps to access server node through portal and also if there is some specific portal parameter which controls the above mentioned anomaly.
    Regards,
    Anuradha

    Hi Anuradha,
    Please use something like:
    http://<Server>:<Port Number>/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.portal.navigation.portallauncher.default;sapj2ee_*=<NodeID>.
    You can use
    java_scriptj<colon>alertOpenparentesisdocument<dot>cookiecloseparentesis
    to find out if you connected to the proper node.  Note the sapj2ee_* parameter is optional so if the value provided is not correct it will connect you to one of the available nodes.  Remove the underscore from java_script.
    Replace:
    java_script with javascript
    <colon> with :
    Openparentesis with (
    Closeparentesis with )
    SCN would not let me post the symbols

    You can also use the HTTP-DC project.... You don't
    need Web Enterprise for this. From what I can tell,
    this is available in L.x on....
    There is api documentation in M.2 (with scant
    examples.)
    There's a special process to put the project in your
    repository (it isn't installed in the repository in
    the standard install,) the documentation in M.2
    (probably in M.0 too, AFAIK) that tells you how to do
    this (look for HTTP-DC in the online help.)
    I haven't done much with it yet, I've just installed
    it. If anybody out there has examples, that'd be
    great. I'll try to contribute more the moment I get a
    chance to explore it....

  • How to Implement HTTP Request Status Code Processing

    I actually have two questions. First, I wondering how to add multiple status code processing to an http request. Secondly, I was wondering how to go about using alternate http requests to different servers in case the primary server is down. What kind of parameter would the program use to determine that the server is unavailable and switch to another server??
    Currently, the program I've written calls an rdf server (http://www.rdfabout.com/sparql) using a sparql query,
    the server returns an xml string, the program parses it, and calculates numbers
    from the string. The program works, but the problem is that the server is down occasionally.
    When the server is down, we need to add calls to another server to
    increase reliability. So, the next task is to call this server:
    http://www.melissadata.com/lookups/ZipDemo2000.asp
    I need to do exactly the same things I did with the rdf server. The
    difference will be constructing a request and a bit different parsing of
    the response.
    current SPARQL query is defined as follows:
    PREFIX dc:  <http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/>
    PREFIX census: <http://www.rdfabout.com/rdf/schema/census/>
    PREFIX census1: <tag:govshare.info,2005:rdf/census/details/100pct/>
    DESCRIBE ?table WHERE {
    <http://www.rdfabout.com/rdf/usgov/geo/census/zcta/90292> census:details
    ?details .
    ?details census1:totalPopulation ?table .
    ?table dc:title "SEX BY AGE (P012001)" .
    }current HTTP Request is defined as follows:
    import java.net.*;
    import java.net.URL;
    import java.net.URLConnection;
    import java.io.*;
    import java.io.DataOutputStream;
    import java.io.BufferedReader;

             int zip;//zipcode is declared as integer format
            //User defines zip through input

            String response = "";
            URL url = new URL("http://www.rdfabout.com/sparql");//designates server to connect to
            URLConnection conn = url.openConnection();//opens connection to server
            // Set connection parameters.
            conn.setDoInput (true);
            conn.setDoOutput (true);
            conn.setUseCaches (false);
            // Make server believe we are form data…
            conn.setRequestProperty("Content-Type","application/x-www-form-urlencoded");
            DataOutputStream out = new DataOutputStream (conn.getOutputStream ());
            // Write out the bytes of the content string to the stream.
            out.writeBytes(requestPart1 + requestPart2 + requestPart3);
            out.flush ();
            out.close ();
            // Read response from the input stream.
            BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader (new InputStreamReader(conn.getInputStream ()));
            String temp;
            while ((temp = in.readLine()) != null)
                 response += temp + "\n";
            temp = null;
            in.close ();
            //parsing stuff is taken care of after here
    }What remains now is to:
    1) add status code processing: notify if the server is not available, ect.
    2) add ability to connect to additional server if primary server is down.
    I'm thinking an if/else statement, which I've tried a few different ways,
    but I don't quite know how to implement that...Also trying to add the
    status code processing/error handling, but I'm not sure how to do that
    for multiple/different errors, such as 404, 503, 504, ect.. try/catch statements?
    So yeah, just been scratching my head on this trying to figure out how to work it..
    If you can help me out on this, I've been going nuts trying to figure this out...

    I think your issue comes form the fact that you are not casting URLConnection to HttpURLConnection.
    Doing the cast would allow you to use getResponseCode() - among other methods - and test for a response different than 200.

  • Weblogic server to server loadbalancing for Http requests

    Hi
    we have a domain consisting of 3 clusters (weblogic 9.2 mp3)
    FE--> has a monolithic app using both JSPs ejb
    JMS--> Provides Messgaing services to FE and hosts dsitributed JMS destinations
    security --> provides security services to FE (This is a new cluster we are adding to the existing domain)
    Our clients interact with FE through a h/w load balancer and IIS hosting IIS plugin.
    FE interacts with JMS using comma sperated url list
    Now , new requirement is for The FE cluster to send http requests to the security cluster
    How do I load balance these requests and have failover in case one node in the security cluster goes down?
    Traditionally these methods are used for client to server load balancing but our use case is different so I am wondering how to accomplish this.
    Options I came up with are
    using a HttpCluster servlet (but you hav eto run a separate weblogic instance just for that)
    using another h/w load balancer in front of this security cluster
    I am trying to see if there are any other options to accomplish this .Also trying to understand pros and cons and which of this is reccomended for Production environments
    Appreciate any comments/feedback on this
    Thanks
    Best

    Using HTTPClusterServlet is not recommeded to be used in Prod.
    To load balance the request going to the security cluster, you can simply use a webserver infornt of the cluster.
    Failover is taken care of by the Cluster itself so you dont have to worry about that....

  • How to intercept Http requests by writing an App Server plugin?

    Hi all,
    My requirement of "Application Server plugin/filter" is to intercept all Httprequests coming to an
    Application Server instance (and not webserver), get the related information from the request, do whatever
    i want to do and then forward the request based on the info available in the request header to any
    webapplication or EAR deployed in the application server.
    I do not want to implement as a Servlet filter in a webapp. which is intrusive to the webapp.
    as we are aware, Servlet Filters can be attached to resources in a Web application and are configured in the
    web.xml file.
    I have tried out my requirements in Tomcat as follows, it works:
    In Tomcat, Valves are attached to a Tomcat container and are configured using a <Valve> element in the
    server.xml file.
    We have modified RequestDumperValve Filter ( source available) class extending Valve to intercept Http
    requests.
    I perform whatever i want to do in this custom Filter and then able to forward to the next valve in the valve
    chain of Tomcat container. I have Configured this valve in server.xml and it works fine.
    My queries are:
    1. Can i do it the same thing in WebLogic application server or other IBM Websphere application server ?
    2. Do the commercial appservers expose their APIs ( e.g. like Valve or Filter in Tomcat ) such that i can
    implement an application server plugin ?
    i.e. Are there any such Filter classes available which will intercept the Http request processing pipleine
    in application server ( precisely, its web container )
    If so, can you pls provide pointers for WebLogic application server and IBM Webpshere application server
    3. Is this against J2ee specs ?
    Appreciate if you can provide me any clues, tips, solutions, pointers regarding this problem.
    thanks and regards

    Try proxyHandler property and implement a custom ProxyHandler.
    ex:
    <property name="authPassthroughEnabled" value="true"/>
    <property name="proxyHandler" value="com.sun.enterprise.web.ProxyHandlerImpl"/>
    null
