Developer folder missing

I recently reinstalled my entire OS, and after having done so I noticed that my Developer folder which was located in my root directory hadn't been able to migrate over from my system back up so I have gone and downloaded XCode from the Mac App store again and installed the additional downloads. Now here id the part i don't get how come even though I redownloaded xcode the developer folder is still missing from my root directory? and if it isn't in my root directory with the file path /Developer where is it? the fact that it is missing is causing programs like CodeBlocks, CodeLite, and CodeRunner nonfunctional since all three require the use of the code libraries and compilers which had been stored within this directory. Can anyone tell me how to solve this problem?

Hello everyone, so I am having the same issue with the missing Developer folder as quantumori00 has described.  I am not sure I understand how this was resolved.  What exactly do I need to download and install from https://developer.apple.com/downloads/ to get the Developer folder back.  My current version of XCode is 4.3.2.  Thank you.

  • "wdp" folder missing under the bin folder

    Hi All,
I have no clue whats going on.
I have been successfully developing my WD application and deploying it on the server. But recenetly i added a few Value Nodes and value attributes to the Component Controller and tried to deploy the application but the deployment terminated in between without any messages.
I the rebuild the project and saw a lot of errors pertaining to my Import Statements in my java files which i am using for writing my business logic.
The unresolved import is the Interface file of my component controller. On checking further inside the bin folder in the navigator view I found that the "wdp" folder itself is missing.
I even deleted all the Value nodes and attributes that i had created but it didnt solve the problem. The "wdp" folder is created internally by the system.
I even created a new WD project and pasted the contents from the previous project but the same wdp folder went missing again.
Can someone tell me whats happening. Why is the "wdp" folder missing and how i can regenrate it so that my application may work again.
i am not being able to slove it at all.
    Warm Regards
    Krishna

    Hi,
Remove the project from workspace. Import it fresh, check component controller for errors.
    If there are errors,
    a) Go to the location of project in folder strcture
    b) Check properties of files : .project and .classpath
    c) If they are read only, change them explicitly to - read only false
    d) reload & rebuild the project
    regards,

  • Applications folder missing from Dock and Finder

I was a little confused to find my applications folder missing from the Dock on my Macbook Pro today - I can't think of anything which I may have done to actively cause it to go missing. I opened up the finder and dragged the applications icon from the LHS of the finder onto the RHS of the dock, but rather than reappearing in the doc it just disappeared.
When I went back to the finder to try again I discovered that it had vanished from there as well. I ran a search in the finder for "applications" and found the applications folder in the results, but when I try to open it I get the following error message "The alias “Applications” can’t be opened because the original item can’t be found."
Does anyone have any ideas on what might have caused this or on how I get my Applications folder back on the Dock? Any help would be really appreciated!

The Applications folder on the dock is a shortcut, or more specifically, an alias.
It sounds like what you did was to drag the Applications item from the Finder sidebar...which is also an alias. By dragging it from the sidebar, it's as if you'd dragged an icon off the dock. It poofs and disappears.
To get them back, open a Finder window and navigate to Macintosh HD (or whatever you've named your hard drive). At the root level of the drive lives your Applications folder (the actual folder, not an alias). Drag that one to the sidebar to replace that shortcut, and drag it again to the Dock to replace that shortcut as well.
If you click on Macintosh HD and all you see are System, Library, and Users and have no Applications folder, then something terrible has happened.

  • Albums folder in iPhoto Library folder missing

The Albums folder in iPhoto Library folder missing. This means when I try to sync photos to my iPod (video) in iTunes, none of my photo albums show up (though I can seclect a specific folder useing year, month day, etc.). It also mens that I must navagate through the date folders to find photos when trying to attach them to e-mails.
I am running a G5 with the latest version of OSX, iPhoto, iTunes.
How do I recreat this folder?
    Thankd for any help.
    Cheers__ Heath

    Hi Heath,
iPhoto 5 now stores the Album information in a data xml file. The Albums folder within the iPhoto Library folder is no longer used. At some point, usually after a rebuild, you will no longer have that folder in the Finder.
If you need to access photos from an album it is very difficult for a third party application to navigate the iPhoto Library in order to find the photo you need. You will have to know the date of import in order to find the photo.
There are some third party applications that can read the xml file and can navigate the iPhoto library and show you the Albums. Hopefully more applications will be revised to read this file.
Until then you will have to Share/Export the photos to the desktop. You can then navigate to the desktop to use the photos (example: web uploading from online photo site)
If your application supports drag and drop, you can drag the photo from an open iPhoto Library window into your application.
For email you can also use the email icon within iPhoto to open a message with the highlighted photo attached.
You can also use spotlight to find images in an Album...
This is what I have done using Spotlight to find my images that are in iPhoto albums without opening iPhoto..
In iPhoto, select the album, then select all, go to Photos/batch change.
Change the comments to text. In the text field I put the name of the Album.
    Do this for each album.
    Close iPhoto.
Open Spotlight and put in the name of the Album ( you have to remember the names of the albums or have then written down)
In the spotlight search results. click on "show all"
Under "Images" click on the "xx more" to show all the images in the album.
Make sure you have it in icon view, the icon view box is the last one on the blue images line.
Now you can control click on the image to "reveal in finder", open in iPhoto or Mail, etc.
I am not sure if this is going to make you happy and it is a little more work, but you can find images in albums and even view them in a slideshow (by clicking the play arrow at the end of the Images highlighted blue line) using Spotlight, all without opening iPhoto.
One important thing to know is you can set up a graphic program to be an external editor (when you double click an image in the library} such as PhotoShop or PS Elements. You set up that within iPhoto Preferences. Just make sure you save the image flattened and with the same name. The edits will then be relected in iPhoto when you hit "save".
Two Apple kbs for you to read
Don't tamper with files in the iPhoto library folder
    About the iPhoto Library folder
Also, when you choose a folder to sync for your iPod, choose iPhoto in the drop down menu in iTunes, then choose the Album you want to sync. Do not choose a folder on your hard drive and then the Albums folder in the iPhoto Library folder.

  • Uninstalling Xcode 3.0: Is trashing the developer folder sufficient?

Hi. I'm not a developer. The only reason I attempted to install Xcode 3.0 was to tinker with the performance and diagnostic tools. Now I am ready to uninstall it. I've have uninstalled it once, using the provided script. It seemed to have cleaned out everything, (the developer folder was completely empty).
I thought I could install the package selectively so I tried running the CHUD package but it gave some sort of odd error. So I gave up and installed the whole developer package again. A few weeks later I was ready to uninstall it. I tried running the script but it gave me a few errors. When I checked the developer folder there was still some files left behind. The remaining files all appeared to be related to the CHUD component of the installation. I was a bit vexed. I tried reinstalling the whole package and running the uninstall script but the files remained.
When looking at the file installation list it appeared that everything was installed in the developer folder. I trashed what was left in the developer folder, being fairly confident that the entire installation was cleaned out. Though I'm not totally sure. Which brings me to my question.
Is there anything left behind from an Xcode 3.0 installation if I simply chose to trash the contents of /Developer? I suspect that some is left behind because the installation error from the CHUD package seemed to have changed something that prevented the uninstaller script from properly removing the entire installation. Sorry if I seem a bit fussy. Thanks for reading this.

Hi, thanks for answering. Actually I had attempted to use that script as mentioned in my post. It had worked reliably before but it did not work when I ran it a second time. I suspected that a botched installation using the CHUD package on the Leopard DVD had screwed up something in the bom, preventing the perl script from doing a proper job of cleaning out all the files.
Anyways, after looking around I found out that Apple has made available a separate installation package for CHUD. So I installed that and then tried uninstalling using the CHUD remover app. It seems to have removed everything except a CPU preference pane in the extras folder.
Anyways I'm pretty sure that my tinkering these last couple of days should have removed all the installed system files. I even selected a few random files per the xcode installation list and checked to see if they were still in the system. The scripts and app seem to do a pretty good job of cleaning up as far as I can tell. The fact that uninstaller did not always do a proper job of cleaning up the installation was always a pet peeve of mine from the windows world.
I've given up on making sure that every single file has been removed. My big concern is whether stuff left behind in the system folders would have a negative impact on system performance or would cause problems in systems operation.
Another thing is that I didn't see the point in giving up 2 gigs of HD space when I only planed to use only a small component of the SDK. Apple should have included the separate CHUD package on the Leopard DVD. Just my 2 cents.

  • Can't delete old developer folder: dashcode.app and xcode.app running

I installed XCode 4.3.3 and accepted when it offered to delete the old version, XCode 4.2.1 I think.
The Developer folder was moved to trash but unfortunately I had the file compare tool runing at the time and that's perhaps why things have become messed up.
I shut down the file compare tool, but still when I tried to empty trash it reported that DashboardCleint.spp and xcode.app are running.
I can't find any way of stopping them, or even seeing them listed as running applications anywhere.
    Any suggestions?
    Cheers.

OK, yes this worked but I thought in a unix based system like MacOS there would be an way without a restart.
Need to start getting into unix again.
    Cheers.

  • Installed Xcode but no Developer folder

I'm trying to access the Developer folder that's usually installed as part of the Developer Tools. I thought Apple had consolidated everything into the Xcode download on the Mac App Store, but even after installing Xcode there isn't any Developer folder in my root hard drive directory. How can I get these other Developer Tools?

Every thing you need is enclosed inside the Xcode folder (the one masquerading as an application). To get to the tools, you need to run Xcode and install all available documentation and downloads via the preferences window. Read the info at the Mac App Store.

  • Home/Library folder missing among other things (Lion 10.7.1)

Since I upgraded to Lion, my 1 year old iMac has been running incredibly slow. It takes forever for any apps to open. Printing takes forever, and Preview - forget about it.
Versions worked right after the install, but not since.
Today, an application which I have been using for a long time (but not every day) stopped working. I went to update some plugins, but to do so I had to go into home/library/application support/ ... That's when I found the folder missing!
I imagin this is why my system is so slow and wonky. If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it.
    Thanks, in advance, Fran

Thanks so much for this! Any suggestions on the cause of the slowness and missing parts of Lion - like Versions? It's probably staring me in the face (like the "missing" folder).

  • Mail complaining Mail folder missing in the User Library

Has anyone encountered this issue? I ran a recent update for Mountain Lion and after the update Mail could no longer find the Mail folder in the User Library even when the folder is still there and coughs up the Mail folder missing error message. I've tried rebuilding permisions even replacing the Mail Folder to no avail. can anybody help?

    Bee,
Thanks for the reply. Bee, I am aware that the user library is hidden. That isn't the issue I'm afraid.
What is happening is that when I launch Mail, it coughs up an error message saing that it cannot find the Mail folder in the ~/user/library. The weird part is that the folder does exist but Mail just doesn't see it.

  • Is it safe to remove "Developer" folder?

I never use the developer tools, so can I just drag the "Developer" folder to the trash and free up 900mb of space?

  • Delete developer folder?

I need a guide here! I am not a developer, just an average owner of a 2010 MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion, with no background in code. This Developer folder takes up a good chunk of my memory, and I'm trying to free up space. How much if any of this folder can I move to trash? Other threads seem to emphasize uninstalling Xcode, but Xcode is only a tiny portion of this huge folder, and I can't run it anyway without some Java install. Judging from About Xcode.pdf, I'm running version 3.2.5. Thanks!

  • Developer folder trashed - Help please

    Hi all,
I have decided to clean my Macbook Pro and endeavored on deleting all developer folder (about 5000 files). I have also tried to sort out permissions and repair disc. However, I got a message saying that the disc can not be repaired and that I should resolve the issue by rebooting and pressing one of the keys. After the process finished I got a confirmation that the disc cannot be repeired.
I assume the problem is with deleting the Developer folder.
Is there any way I could fix it without spending money in a repair shop?
The original installation disc is gone though.
I would be grateful for any suggestions.

    Hi Frank,
    Thank you for response.
The computer is MacBook pro 2010 and there is no warranty. I am looking for a solution to avoid the, possibly, colossal repair cost.
The MacBook runs on both, Windows and OS. When I try to run OS a light grey screen appears with Apple logo on it and below there is a spinning dark grey "sun", below the "sun" there is a darker grey loading stripe. Once the loading reaches third of the distance the MacBook shuts down without a noise.
Oh, it runs on the latest OS.
Could that still be hardware failure?
    Many thanks,
    Arkadiusz
