Hi,
Please read the specifications and help me with a few questions.
"The Windows client application (basically function as a messaging
application, where end-users can receive messages from the master server
after downloading/installing a setup exe) is a MFC based, multi-threaded
Win32 application. It consists of an executable and two DLL�s written to
support COM object-oriented methods.
Questions
1) Its only a client side application, what are the java package i should read to connect a client to a server? Not RMI right?

To answer #1. You probably want to look into Sockets (java.net.Socket) and Threads (java.lang.Thread)
As far as #2 goes, what they mean is the EXE uses the functions containted within two DLLs (dynamically linked libraries) to acess the methods of the COM object they need to manipulate. You can get this kind of functionality in java via Native methods.

How can I catch Client Application crash?

Hi all.
I'm developing a client application, which makes several long-time operations on its server.
These server-operations are started, monitored and stopped by my cllient, during a "normal" lifecycle.
The problem is: if my client unexpectedly shut down (i.e. system crash or interruption by task manager), how can I catch this event, in order to send the "interrupt" to the server and stop the current thread?
I tried to add a WindowListener on the Main Window of my client app, but it doesn't work... any other idea?

Difference on developing client applications on PC and Mac platform.

I would like to know wats the difference on developing client applications on PC and Mac platform.
If i were to create software applications using Javascript, MS SQL Server 2000 and JAVA on Mac platform, would there be any difference from those we created on PC(Windows)?

Threads come to mind...as even when they are written as "Pure Java".. the native thread implementation can work harry cary (as opposed to Harry Potter) on your app...

Python Server/Client Application Development

Hey All!
I am writing a basic proof of concept server/client application for a project I am working on.
My goal is this:
1) End user launches client.
2) Client connects to server.
3) User selects one or more files to send to server.
4) Server saves a copy of each file.
5) Server terminates connection.
5) Server processes each file.
6) Upon completion of the processing server sets a "processing completed flag."
7) Client periodically checks with server for "processing completed flag."
8) Client securely reconnects
9) Client downloads processed files.
I have no background in programming servers/clients so this will be a learning experience for me and the workflow described above may change as I learn more about how this all works. Currently my hope is to first implement a system that will stay connected while the files are processed and once I have a better understanding as to how that works I can add more complexity to the system.
I will be writing this in Python 3.3 and the server will be hosted on a server which will (for now) be running Arch.
This thread will act as a sort of development journal but feel free to comment or post suggestions. I will for sure have questions as I go along too!

Do you mean regular, non-byte strings? That cannot possibly be the best way to do it. It would be like using Russian as an intermediary language for translating Spanish to French.

OIM Client application development using OIM API, when user password is not available

I am developing a cleint application for OIM. The client application is a set of services, running on a separate server from where OIM is running.
The OIM version used is 11gR2.
As I look into the oimClient object, the login method takes username and password. As my application is in an SSO environment, I do not have the password for the user, and just have the user's login ID.
If I am correct, the tcUtilityFactory allowed a digital signature option, to support scenarios like the above.
Question is, does oimClient support similar functionality? I did not find any examples in the Oracle documentation.
I will appreciate if someone can confirm a similar usage and provide me some sample code and configuration details.

We have 10 Client Nodes in the field and we need two "View Only" functionality in Client machines located on Supervisory Desks.

I have done this. There are many ways to approach this but I will offer what I think is the easiest. This will work ONLY if you have been assigning security levels to your objects (objects that actually control devices in the field) greater than zero AND allowing a security level of zero to view all panels. When I develop interfaces I do this just for creating a non control client.
Basically, you remove all users from the Lookout client in the user manager. You will not be able to remove the built-ins, "Guest" and "Administrator". Now when the end users tries to login using his normal login he will be denied. Consequently, he will not be able to control. But, he will still be able to view all the information since a no login can view a panel with a viewing se
curity level of zero. You must ensure any pushbuttons that are used to open panels have a security level of zero.
Now you can copy this security profile by finding the lookout.sec file and copying it to another non-control client computer. In Windows NT this file is located in the system32 directory.
There are many other ways but I find this the easiest.

Here's the fix for that old problem. Change the work method to do the following
- don't register interest in things that can't happen
- when you connect register based on whether the connection is complete or pending.
- add the OP_READ interest once the connection is complete.
This doesn't fix all the other problems this code will have,
eg.
- what happens if a write is incomplete?
- why does my code loop if I add OP_WRITE interest?
- why does my interestOps or register method block?

We have developed a desktop application using Flash software and published the same for MAC environment. When we double click on the index.app file, the application is working perfectly in Mac 10.6.7 at our office. But if the same index.app file is double

For your information the client is able to open this same application by double clicking on index.swf file. The main problem is that client is not able to open the application using index.app file at their office whereas we are able to do so at our office. Can anyone give some suggestions to sort this problem?

The most common reason is different versions of Flash, or different versions of web browsers used. Some users may elect to not have Flash installed at all because of the processor overhead of Flash. If you are going to make an application for a client, check what operating system and browser versions they are using first. Then determine if a stand alone application is required, or if they have the necessary plugins to run specific browser enhanced code.
P.S. MAC is an acronym for Media Access Control. Mac is the shorthand for Macintosh, the operating system and computers made by Apple Inc.

Using database views in ADF mobile client application

Hi,
I am using Jdeveloper 11.1.1.4 and WLS 10.3.4.
I have developed a POC in ADF mobile client application both with and without synchronization. However, both work with entity objects based on tables.
I need to use database views instead of tables. When I try to include entity object (based on views) in the view object, it shows an error saying "Only the entity objects based on tables can be selected"
Please guide me if there is a work around for this.
Also, please let me know if there is way to develop an ADF mobile client application skipping the use of entity objects at all and using view objects directly to specify the database query and fetch data from the database.

Currently, out of box, ADF Mobile Client does not support synchronization against Database Views. This is because Mobile Server imposes some schema restrictions to ensure synchronization with multi-table views would work correctly. This schema restriction requires, for example, the view must have a primary parent table with key defined, and also all base table must be included in the data publication. These dependencies requires manual resolution and advanced planning, and is managed outside of the ADF Mobile Client/JDeveloper project.
To continue development, you would need to create server Entity Objects directly against the base tables. You can then create the mobile ADF Business Component (EOs, VOs, etc). You can then create View Objects in your ADF Mobile Client application based on the database views, in order to retrieve the data you need exactly. In other words, instead of basing EO on the database view, create View Objects in the mobile applicaiton to mimic what you had in the View Object.
Is there any other reason why you would need to access data via database views, instead of directly against base tables?

You seem to be having a problem with creating an Eclipse plugin. You don't seem to be having any problem at all with Java and XML that I can see. I think you would have more chance of getting an answer if you looked over on the Eclipse site for a forum for plugin writers.

JBO-27122 error in ADF mobile client application for blackberry

I am trying to develop a simple ADF mobile client application for blackberry. Currently, working only with Blackberry 9700 simulator. I am using the following for development:
- Jdev 11.1.1.3
- Oracle database lite 10.3.3

P.S. : The view object (header) shows data successfully when run in the application module. Also, a .db file gets created in the SD card folder. The synchronisation is a success when mSync.exe file is run in the <Oracle_Home>/Mobile/Server/Sdk/bin.

Set Open Documents in Client Applications by Default with SharePoint 2007

I have activated the excel service with sharepoint 2007, but some excel files can't be opened well for unsupported features.
Therefore, I have to set to open excel file by client application avoiding the above error.
I have done bellow settings but no effect:
1)Change the advanced settings in document library to
Open in the client application;
2)Set authentication providers to Enable client intergration;
3)I 'd like to activate the feature of
open documents in the client application but I can't find it in features.
Please kindly guide me how to make it.

Doubts over the Performance in Developing a Chat application

We are developing a chat application which needs to update the chat content in the database for the duration of the chat (ie.,For the duration of a session).At the same time the page should refresh and show the current content on both ends.In addition to both these, the database tables has to be checked to detect the occurence of a Network error on both sides.
We have developed it as a Browser based chat and we have used PHP with MySQL. The performance is slow.
Can anyone give a suggestion as to whether we can develop the chat application completely from the scratch and if we do that which technology should we choose to boost the performance.
If anyone is not clear about my problem just mail me.I'll explain it in more detail.

I just wanted to know these following answers.
2) Network failure -- Means (either browswer got killed or data did not arrived/Page Not refreshed)
3) which WebSErver are U using?
From java, it is very easy to develop chatting application for which you can use applet and servlets for the same (if you consider the performance is the utmost importance)
Updating to the database should not be done for the duration levels rather should be done at the event levels(data change/keyboards/session -inf changes).
Im not sure about PHPs running at client but I can suggest you to use two frames .One is for typing and other one is for displaying information which basically gets the staus from the server abt other users in the chat either from the session, which would be driven by other component which is static) .
Any how, I just put my ideas (Im sure , you know all these things)
