Developing java in Xcode?

I wanto know if I need to install any additional stuff so I can create java projects in xcode, because when I create a new project java doesent appear in the window, the only types I can create are projects for iphone and Mac OS X but I cant find any java project or even compile a Java file when I open it with Xcode

Hey there. Are you sure you followed K T's advice and opened the Organizer and clicked the "+" at the bottom left to *create a new template*. It sounds like you may still be looking in the "New Project" area for the Java template -- you won't find it there.
Here's a more detailed explanation of what to do. Open Xcode and go to the Window menu and choose Organizer. Once the Organizer is open, there should be a little plus a the very left end of the bottom edge of the window. Click that, and you should be able to figure it out from there. I have Xcode 3.1, so it could be slightly different, but for me, once you click the plus, select "New from Template", and then select "Java Templates", and then select the template you want. Hope that helps!
Also, like he said, are you sure you are using Xcode 3.2?

  • Java and Xcode 4

I'm new to Xcode 4. I have some made some Java projects before for Android in NetBeans. Will it be possible to port over Java code easily to Xcode? Or can I only use Object C to code in Xcode 4?

    Hi coldcrow
You can code in Java with Xcode, but in a separate forum one of Apple's Java developers said that it is now only meant for small scale Java projects. If you've already got some experience with Netbeans then you might do better to continue with Netbeans and don't worry about Xcode.
On a personal note, I used to be a keen on using Xcode for Java, but the support for the language declined over time, it never had a Java GUI designer, bits (like the debugger) stopped working properly, and projects that worked one day suddenly became deprecated and then stopped working. In the end, I lost patience with it and moved to Netbeans. I now have a collection of old Xcode Java projects dating back to 2004 that simply won't run any more; as and when I need to use them I now have to transfer them to Netbeans, and I wish I'd never started with Xcode. At least Netbeans is under continuous development and will always support Java.
If any reading that mini-rant you still want to continue with Xcode for Java then I'll wish you good luck!

  • Java and XCode 3.0

I am trying to move from developing in c++ to developing in java. I adore Xcode and would like to not switch IDEs, but I also need to be able to use more than one source file for my code.
When I create a java project, xcode deposits a single .java source file in the "src" folder. I can't seem add other files to this folder, and if I add more source files within my java project outside of this folder, the single source file within can't seem to utilize the classes in the other source files.
Is there some workaround I'm missing? some checkbox about using more than one .java file? This all worked in Xcode 2.x, but xcode 3 seems to have lost it.....
    any help is greatly appreciated.

    well go figure.
I was trying to use add to project which does not, but "new file" does in fact work for java. thanks for the help, don't know how I missed that.

  • How do i download apple developer apps, specifically xcode

    Hello,
I am trying to download a software developer's application called xcode (version 5) to a PC so that I can run it using  OS X in a virtual machine (Oracle Virtual Box should work) and learn how to develop apps for iphones.   This is a free apple application.  The problem I am having is that I cannot find a download link or button.   Yes, I have an apple id and I also am registered as an apple developer.  I have tried using firefox 26.0 and IE 9.  The OS on the PC from where I am attempting to download is windows vista basic 32 bit.
First, I went to http://store.apple.com/us  and typed xcode in the search bar at the upper right of the screen.  I did not see a link for logging in anywhere.
That search took me here:  https://developer.apple.com/technologies/ and I see "download xcode" in the left panel.
I click it and it takes me here:   https://developer.apple.com/xcode/    It says "Download Xcode 5 for free."   Great, that's what I want.  What do I click on to do it?   I see no dowload link so I clicked on the Downloading and Installation FAQs  link and it took me here:   https://developer.apple.com/support/xcode/
Now I see "The latest version of Xcode is available as a free download from the Mac App Store.  " ok lets click there ... and guess what?  I'm back to square one again!!!     https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/xcode/id497799835?ls=1&mt=12
I also tried using itunes.   That only showed xcode BOOKS!
Can't somebody please explain to me the thought process in using the apple website correctly?   This seems to be the most convoluted and user-unfriendly site I've ever been on.   Full to the brim with marketing and promos but very little to guide the user.   I have an apple id and I did register as a member of the iOS Developer Program.  I am a software engineer with 15+ years experience... not a rookie to download and use software!  What am I missing here?
Thanks a lot for any help!

I found the answer which someone posted for an earlier version of xcode.  Apparently, going to the "app store" per the instructions, will not work.
Instead, use the link below to the developer downloads page, click on the little white right arrow next to the app and it will expand.  The download link (not obvious) is a very small blue link over to the right.   Tricky, apple, tricky.

  • How do you create a "DEVELOPER PROFILE" in xcode (4.2 on Snow Leopard)?

How do you create a "DEVELOPER PROFILE" in xcode (4.2 on Snow Leopard)? I accidentally deleted it from Keychain Access.

I'm not sure what you mean by Developer Profile, but you can create a provisioning profile in Xcode 4 from the Organizer. Click the Organizer button in the project window toolbar. Click the Devices button at the top of the Organizer. Select Provisioning Profiles from the left side of the Organizer.
If you need to create something other than a provisioning profile, you may need to go to Apple's iOS developer center, sign in, and create what you need from there.

  • Unable to obtain a development certificate in Xcode

Please bear with me - I'm new to Apple development. I'm trying to follow the "Start Developing iOS Apps Today" tutorial, and I reached the point where I'm supposed to obtain a development certificate in Xcode.
It instructs me to open the Organizer window, click Devices, select Provisioning Profiles, click Refresh, and log in with my Apple Developer user name and password.
However, when I do that, the "Sign in with your Apple ID" dialog keeps reappearing again and again, even though I fill in the correct details (with which I had successfully enrolled as an iOS Developer before). At the same time, the Organizer window seems to be "stuck" on "Fetching team list...".

    Probably solved:
After lots of experimenting, it appears I must check the "Remember my password in my keychain" option in the log-in dialog.

Hit the '+' sign and then choose 'New From Template...'

I don't. For the moment it seems too complicated. I follow the MVC pattern when the application is big and try to look at the code of successful projects.

  • Developing Java Applications for Windows CE

    Hello,
I hope this sub forum is right. So I must develop a Java Application for Windows CE. I read something about J2ME, but I think this is only for Mobilephone and Windows CE supports AWT. So I tried just some simple forms with J2ME.
Can anybody tell me how I develop java Applications for Windows CE? Can I use Eclipse or must I use another IDE?
Realy I developed Swing 5-6 Month but I have no idea how I develop Java Applications for Windows CE.
    Thanks a lot for helping...

The MIDP for Palm OS 1.0 requires Palm OS v3.5 or higher to run. According to your error message, the emulator is not running v3.5 or higher. Try to get hold of a ROM image with a later version. I've run it with v4.0 of the OS and it works.

  • Developing apps in Xcode?

I have recently started developing apps in Xcode, now my problem arises when I want to develop the same app for android or windows. Does this mean I have to learn some new programming language or a software? If I have to, how different is it from Xcode? And also if its possible to develop from an OS X system.
    Thanks in advance!

First Xcode is the IDE not the language. The language for IOS and OS X development (a t least up to now) is Objective-C. (Swift, Apple's new language will eventually replace Objective-C for a most app development).
As for cross platform development I have head of some 3rd party web based sites that claim the ability to develop for IOS and Android but I have not personally tried any so can't say how well or if they work.  I can see the underlying logic, the model, being cross platform but when it comes to things like the GUI its hard to imagine given the differences between IOS and Andriod.
One thing is no matter how you develop your code you will have to have Xcode on a Mac in order to submit the app to Apple and the App Store, there is no way around that.
    regards

Developing iPhone apps with JavaFX 2 (Demo)
Not much there, but apparently people are trying to hack it together using JavaFX 2 already. I believe I read an article where Oracle itself had given a presentation about a JavaFX2 app on an iPhone; I believe the gist of it is that they want to make it so you can bundle the Java runtime with your application, which makes it legal to sell a Java application through the appstore.
