Different versions of install file depending on MacBook type?

Hi everyone,
I recently did a fresh install of Yosemite on my MacBook Air (I downloaded Yosemite on the MBA and created a bootable USB). I would now like to do a fresh install on my MacBook Pro too. I was going to use the same bootable USB, but a friend told me that I would need to re-download Yosemite on the MCP and create the bootable USB again. He told me that he believed that the versions are slightly different depending on what device you use to download Yosemite.
I doubt this is true, but do you guys know anything about this?
If I created the Bootable Yosemite USB on a MacBook Air after downloading Yosemite on MacBook Air, is it the exact same install as if I had done it on a MacBook Pro?
Many thanks,
Florian

The theory is that it should be the same. I'm not sure it is based on some reports here of people trying the same thing and getting bad results. However, it is very few reports, so could just be some odd coincidence.
I haven't tried to verify that they are the same.
The only time I would think they could possibly be different is if you had a very new Mac that shipped with a special build of the OS. It would only be available to those Macs until a new update was released that incorporated the changes for that special Mac.

Are there different versions of notification centre depending on iPhone?
May seem crazy but just noticed my wife's 4s has "Notification Centre" where as my 4 has "Notification Center"
Her apps seem to work better such as Sky News which updates notifications all the time for her but never for me!
Both running 6.0.1 and have same versions of apps.
I've reset phone but no change.
    Any advise?

I've updated my language settings to British English. Has changed title in Notification Centre but I'm still not receiving notifications from certain apps!

The old "pop the DVD in, hold down Option or Command + C and just do a clean install on your new drive doesn't cut it?
As for SL, it has to be retail, can't be the OEM gray disc from another Mac specific model.
First, start up your computer from the Mac OS X Install DVD.
Insert the Mac OS X Install DVD.  After it mounts, choose System Preferences from the Apple () menu.
Choose Startup Disk from the View menu.
Select the Mac OS X Install DVD as the startup disk and click Restart.

  • Loading different banners into html file depending on screen width? (Responsive)

I have a html file that has my banner in it. I call my banner into the html file with this script in the head section: <script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8" src="banner_edgePreload.js"></script>
I also have a second banner called banner2. So all I have to do to switch the banners in my html file is put a 2 after the word banner in the script above ^ because they use the same resources.
Now im trying to get it to change from banner to banner2 when screen width is 1200 or less.
I was using this code but it doesn't seem to be working:
    <script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8" src="banner_edgePreload.js"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8" media="screen and (max-device-width: 1200px)" src="banner2_edgePreload.js"></script>
Any ideas on how I can get this to work?
    Thanks!

  • [SOLVED]Different versions of installed and loaded kernel

After a system upgrade I have issues booting.
Kernel was updated from 3.8.8-2 to 3.8.10-1.
systemctl --failed says slim, systemd-modules-load and ufw services failed. I'm able to log in and I can see that loaded kernel is 3.8.8, but pacman says the installed one is 3.8.10.
Upgrade process didn't generate any error message, pacman.log also shows that image generations were successful and they were created on /boot (separate partition).
It's a laptop, I have UEFI mode disabled in BIOS. Linux-lts is installed, too, same problem.
Any idea why is this issue and how can be solved? Thanks. I didn't find a solution among the topics, however I saw similar issues.
PS: systemctl's output doesn't break long lines, just shortens them. Any way to make them readable?
    Edit:
ls-l /boot shows that the files are old, so they were not updated during the system update.

    Exactly.
    I have files in /lib/modules/3.8.10-1-ARCH
I mounted my root partition from liveCD and /boot is empty.
It's LUKS encryptied partition in case it counts.
    ====================================
    Update:
First I downgraded to 3.8.8 and I was able to boot with it. Then I had to remove manually some files. Seemed that virtualbox-host-modules was corrupted, no package owned the files in /lib/modules/extramodules-3.8. After I reinstalled it and removed netcfg as well (using networkmanager for the laptop anyway) I managed to update kernel, mkinitcpio run successfully and created the images.
I still don't understand why the image files weren't updated or why there wasn't any error message...

  • Install different versions of Site Studio Designer...

    Hi all,
I have to install different versions of the product in the same machine (Site Studio Designer 7.7 (currently installed) and Site Studio Designer 10g).
When I am trying to install 10g version, I get a message to delete the previous version, and I can not install.
I have seen that there are ways to run different versions already installed on your PC (running scripts pointing to the dll files for each version), but can not find anything on the previous step to install them.
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi all,
In case anyone has the same error, I've got a possible solution.
I have changed the directory name of the Stellent Site Studio Designer 7.7. I tried to install de new version (10gR3), and I clicked 'Yes' to uninstall the previous version.
    The new installation was successfully.
The, I had created a script to register their separate DLLs before launching. So you'll need to create a batch file for each Designer and put the following:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\REGSVR32 /s "C:\Archivos de programa\Stellent Site Studio\Designer\7.7\SSHelp.dll"
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\REGSVR32 /s "C:\Archivos de programa\Stellent Site Studio\Designer\7.7\SSHtmlTidy.dll"
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\REGSVR32 /s "C:\Archivos de programa\Stellent Site Studio\Designer\7.7\SSLoggerEngine.dll"
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\REGSVR32 /s "C:\Archivos de programa\Stellent Site Studio\Designer\7.7\SSWebBrowserEx.dll"
    "C:\Archivos de programa\Stellent Site Studio\Designer\7.7\SiteStudioDesigner.exe"
and similar for 10gR3 version, as indicated in the next thread: Site Studio Designer Install on windows 7 - 64 bit

  • Load different versions of Help depending on user's OS?

Is it possible to have different versions of Help load depending on the user's OS?
For example, if a user is accessing from a PC then they would load the AIR Help version, but if they were accessing from a Mac then they would load the HTML version.
Is this something that is handled on our database end, or would it be a feature of Adobe RoboHelp Server?

Try this link if you want to see how browser based help will look on MACs and Apple hardware.
    http://www.grainge.org/demos/bbair/
Your developers would need to create a sniffer to ascertain the OS of the user's device and then route to the required help. That is not built into RoboHelp and RoboHelp Server will not assist with this one.

  • Navigation within swf files that use different version of actionscript

I have multiple swf files that need to link up together, the problem is this, some of the files was developed a few years ago with Flash MX and actionscript 1 while some of these files was developed recently in CS 5 with actionscript 3.
Is it possible to navigate within different version of actionscript files in the same flash player?
I found that actionscript 1 file will not work once i have navigated to actionscript 3 file.
Any suggession or solutions would be highly appreciate.

Actually, it will not work properly. Given, the code behind all these swf(s) is Object Oriented then there is a solid chance of getting them to communicate with each other without any issue. Once suggestion would be to centralize the navigation into its own swf and then dispatchEvents and have the listeners handle the rest. I am sure there are other avenues, but I would do it this way so if there any other such file(s) in the future, all you will need to do is hook the plumbing up and off it goes. Now if the code is anything but 'Object Oriented' then it will take good chunk of time to get the navigation going. However way you decide to pursue it, test it rigorously so there aren't any foo surprises.
    Thanks.

I just put snow leopard 10.6.8 on my macbook pro and I was told that I could purchase Apature for photo management- now its says I need a different version.... is there an older version I could get? so frustrating.

The current version of Aperture requires 10.7.5 or later.
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

    Hey iraravitz,
Could you please let me know what version of OS are working on.
You might receive this error when you attempt to install on a drive with the HFS+ Case Sensitive file system, which is not supported for installation of Adobe Creative Suite 6.
So, please try installing on a drive that has been formatted with a supported file system.
You might refer the KB doc link mentioned below for the same:

  • How can I read pdf files from LabVIEW with different versions of Acrobat reader?

How can I read pdf files from LabVIEW with different versions of Acrobat reader?
I have made a LabVIEW program where I have possibility to read a PDF document.  When I made this LabVIEW program it was Acrobat Reader 5.0.5 that was installed on the PC. Lather when the Acrobat Reader was upgraded to version 6.0, there was an error when VI tries to launch the LabVIEW program. And Later again when we upgraded to Acrobat Reader 7.0.5 I must again do some changes and rebuild the EXE files again
It isn't so very big job to do the changes in one single LabVIEW program, but we have built a lot of LabVIEW programs so this take time to due changes every time vi update Acrobat Reader. (We have build EXE files.)
The job is to right click the ActiveX container and Click "Insert ActiveX Object", then I can brows the computer for the new version of acrobat Reader. After this I must rebuild all the "methods" in the Activex call to make the VI executable again.
Is there a way to build LabVIEW program so I don't have to do this job every time we update Acrobat Reader?
This LabVIEW program is written in LabVIEW 6.1, but I se the problem is the same in LabVIEW 8.2.

Have CS 5 Installed on my iMac and works ok. But installed on my new MacBook Pro it won't open NEF files from my Nikon D810. Displays NEF icons, but when I try and open them the response is: Make sure latest RAW updates are installed. If problem persists follow link: http://www.adobe.com/go/kb407111. Have installed Bridge 5.0.2.4; Raw Ref Version 7.0.0.308; DNG converter_8_7_1.dmg; Bridge 5.0.2 Update 2. Also same problem with Lightroom which I don't normally use. Lightroom_3_LS11_mac_3_6.dmg installed.

In the link you posted it states that the Nikon 810 requires ACR 8.6 or newer.
Version of ACR are specific to versions of Photoshop. You cannot use 8.6 nor even 7.0.in CS5.
I believe that ACR 6.7 is the latest that will work with CS5, so make sure you have this installed and get rid of ACR 7.
Having 2 versions of ACR will cause problems.
You have already downloaded DNG Converter 8.7.1.
Have you double clicked the DMG file to allow you to install DNG Converter on your computer?
Be aware that DNG converter is a stand-along application and not a plug-in.
You need to open DNG converter at select the FOLDER that contain your .NEF files.
Don't open the folder and try to select individual files, it doesn't work that way.
After converting your D810 files to DNGs you can then open the DNGs in CS5
The problem is your camera didn't exist when CS5 & its version of ACR was developed.
i don't use Lightroom, but the list mentions Lightroom 5.6 as needed to open D819 so your 3.6 version of LR won't cut it.

  • Install windows on my MacBook Pro7,1 (Version 10.6) **doesn't have an optical drive**

I recently replaced my HDD for a 1 GB SSD. Then I took out my optical drive and installed a HDD. I wanted the extra space to store videos and pic and such. I also upgraded the RAM.
I want to use bootcamp to install windows on my macbook pro. However, when I go to Boot Camp Assistant, its says "You need an optical drive to install Windows."
***I removed my optical drive and now have a HDD. I want to use a USB.***
SO, after I click continue... it gives me two options. Option 1 says Download the Windows support software for this Mac. Option 2 says I have the Mac OS X installation disc that came with my Mac or I have already downloaded the Windows support software for this Mac to a CD, DVD, or external disk.
My question is, HOW DO I INSTALL WINDOWS on my Macbook pro?
do I have to have an optical drive? that means, I have to take out my HDD and put my optical drive back in. Or can I just use a USB? if so , HOW?
Can I install Windows (7, 8.1) to a USB? Or download the Windows support software to a USB? and click on Boot Camp Assistant and click option 2? so when it asks me to put in the CD, I can just plug in the USB and install the Windows support software? and then put the codes in to install windows?
I hope I'm making sense. I saw several videos on Youtube and i just need some help.
    Thank You.

So basically, I have trying to  install windows on my mbp using a usb drive. However bootcamp wont allow  me to do so since I have a optical drive on the laptop. I have been  searching for a long time and eventually came across this solution and I  would like to share this so u guys dont have to google all over the  place again .
The solutions given before by changing info.plist is correct except  that now Bootcamp crashes everytime you change it in OSX 10.9.
    Full solution:
    1. Add your Boot Rom Version(from system info) under DARequiredROMVersions.
    2. Add Model Identifier(from system info) under PreUSBBootSupportedModels
    3. Delete "Pre" from "PreUSBBootSupportedModels", so you have "USBBootSupportedModels"
The first 3 steps are same as before and if its not clear you can easily google solutions with screenshots.
The  next step is only for OSX 10.9, as it employs some kind of code  signature to prevent you from changing info.plist and cause bootcamp to  crash.
    4. Open your terminal, use the following command
    sudo codesign -fs - /Applications/Utilities/Boot\ Camp\ Assistant.app
Sudo  means using administrator privilege and u need to enter your mac  password. And the command resigns the bootcamp application so that it  runs with the new info.plist file and not crash.
    5. Continue on with your installation....
    Cheers.
P.S. back up info.plist before u change anything.
