Different video formats in same timeline

hey,
so i need to edit some clips together that were shot in different formats. im editing prores 422 lt footage that was shot at 108024p with a canon t2i with some ripped dvd clips. im using mpeg streamclip and ripping them as quicktime apple hdv 1080p24 files because those dvds were shot with and hdv camera. the timeline setting is the one fcp recommends when you import into the timeline, apple prores 422 (lt)1920x1080 24p 48kHz. they seem to play fine in fcp, but when exported it is as if the different formatted files have difficulty transitioning from one clip to the next. the screen goes green or the image completely breaks for a moment or two before rendering back to its normal quality. i searched all over for this and couldn't find a thing so i apologize if there is a thread that covers this already. any help is much appreciated.

Convert them to the same format. If you want help with this you'll need to give the exact specifications of the different media as it is in the QuickTime player's movie inspector.

CS5 Mixed video formats in same sequence

New user here, coming from 10 years of Pinnacle Studio.
I have at least 3 different video formats to edit in a single sequence/timeline (iPhone, 720 from a Sony point and shoot, and 1080i from a Canon video camera). Depending on which format I use for the sequence, when I drag the videos to the main Video1 track, the audio will go to whatever track is appropriate for the mono or stereo. The iPhone and Sony are both mono and will be on one track and the Canon is stereo so its audio jumps to a stereo track.
So my question is, am I to make all my audio adjustments on both mono and stereo audio tracks depending on where I am making the volume changes on the timeline. In Pinnacle, the video and associated audio was always on the same track pair. I was just wondering about workflow and the best way to make the audio adjustments.
My project typically is a year's worth of video footage from the 3 sources, making a Year In Review. There will be soundtrack music from MP3's playing most of the time, with occasional original audio from the video being raised in volume for a few seconds, then fading back down to hear the soundtrack again. Keeps the audience more engaged.
One more question, what format should my sequence match, the 1080 stereo Canon, 720 mono Sony, or mono iPhone. The end result will be for viewing on widescreen big screen DVD or Blu-ray. I would like to make the mono on both channels, and upscale to 1080. Not sure the best way to do this.

Another question. After editing, I will be authoring with Encore, which I have used for many years now. How should I structure the audio tracks in Premiere if I want the mixed audio track (master track) to be the main audio track in Encore (on the DVD) and the original video's audio to be the alternate audio track in Encore (on the DVD). While playing back the DVD, the default audio track will be the mixed audio. If the viewer wants to hear the original audio only, then they just hit the audio button on the remote to switch tracks.
Funny how this requirement came about. For years I always just had the mixed audio. But while watching the videos, my kids started telling me they wanted to hear the original audio. Knowing the video would be too boring to adults without a soundtrack, I came up with the idea for multiple audio tracks. That requirement eliminated the consumer lever authoring tools, which is what pushed me to Encore back in the version 1.0 days. Since then I have been using Studio to edit, and Encore to author. Now I am trying to dump Studio and use the Premiere/Encore pair.
The way I did this in Pinnacle Studio was to output the video and mixed audio as an AVI or MPEG2 file, and import this as the timeline in Encore. Then from Pinnacle Studio, output the original audio only as a .wav file, and import this as a 2nd audio track in Encore. Worked perfectly...as long as Pinnacle kept the audio in sync, which at times was difficult, but with the newer releases of Studio, it worked much better.

Different video formats

Hi, I need some help.
I've been using Premiere Pro for about a month now, so I know the basics, but I'm still not an expert.
My problem is that the filming I've been doing (using Fraps) is in 3 different video formats :
1. 640x400 with 120 fps
2. 720x450 with 120 fps
3. 1280x800 with 30 fps
I've tried putting them all together in a sequence and editted the video sizes/formats so they all fit each other, but it seems to ruin the quality of the videos and also make it blurry at places (especially when exporting). Now my question is, if it is possible to have all 3 video formats in one sequence without it ruining the quality?
I've thought of changing the video formats before importing them into Premiere Pro - just not sure if this is possible.

Upscaling that 640 footage to anything "higher" would be problematic, so you'd be limited at best to the 720 to get really usable output. But if you're downscaling to the 640, then if done properly should look good. What's your settings for sequence & export?

How to use different video formats in the one timeline?

Hi everyone,
So I am in the middle of stringing together a rough cut for a surf flick/documentary shot in some remote Indonesian islands…
Things so far are going well, but I am slightly confused regarding the best way to tackle a slight issue (hopefully slight!) of video format compatibility.
The main shooting for the film was done with .mov video format and this has been imported/captured into final cut pro 7 using the correct settings, which has now formed the basis for my rough cut.
However, I did a lot of filming with some other cameras (underwater, POV etc) and so also have some crucial footage in different formats that to my knowledge will not be compatible with the timeline that I have already created in FCP.
The files are as following:
AVI
MOD
MP4
I am assuming the best way to go about things is convert all these different files into a compatible form that I can then drop straight into my existing timeline.
Unfortunately, I am just beginning to learn the more techy aspects of editing and I don’t have the first idea of how to go about doing this…?
Any helpful feedback would be greatly appreciated…

Although there are kinds of standard workflows for best quality in final product, it helps to know a bit more about your setup... what is your primary format? Without knowing that, the best way forward is to convert all of your footage to Apple ProRes. Especially the MP4 stuff. There are different ways about doing that, but I personally recommend Compressor. This can take some time depending on the amount and lengths of your shots, but it is well worth the process.
Make sure you choose 48k / 16bit AIF for all of your shots that have audio. If some of your footage is 1080p and some is 720p, I personally leave that alone because when you have this type of a difference in footage, I like to set my sequence to 720p giving me the option to move or pan the 1080p clips inside of the 720p sequence. Final Cut Pro is very good at handling that difference.

How do I save a slideshow made in iDVD to a different video format.

How can I convert a slideshow made in iDVD to one of these video formats: 3g2, 3gp, 3gp2, 3gpp, 3p, asf, avi, divx, dv, dvx, flv, moov, mov, mp4, mpeg4, mpg4, mpe, mpeg, mpg, qt, wmv, xvid so I can download into photobucket.

Did you start your slideshow in iMovie? I do....from there I send it to iDVD, but if I want to do something else with it, before I send it to iDVD, I simply export it from iMovie. That creates a .mov.
If you have the Video TS folder that is on a DVD, Streamclip can extract it. Another option is to use Quicktime Pro to convert your .mov to whatever.....if you want WMV, use the studio version of Flip4Mac.

Can two different video formats be combined on the time line?

I am working with several clips some are older and standard, others were shot on a HD camcorder. Can they be combined on the time line. Do I have to change the settings... I am using FCP 6. Thanks.

The short answer is yes, standard definition and high definition can be combined in the same timeline. There are a series if problems and issues that arise from the fact that the HD will typically be 3-7 times the size of the SD. These tend to be questions for the editor, not tech support.
The best way to approach this is to read the FCP online Help files dealing with mixed SD/HD and start making the decisions on how you want to utilize the footage, then the questions you ask will get you the specific answers you desire.

How do I embed the different video formats that are required for different browsers?

I have a short video in the different formats required to play across different browsers but I can't seem to get the HTML 5 code correct. I can only get it to play in one browser at a time. It seems to only play in the browser that has the video code first. What should the code look like?

Yah the code goes just like that, the first line "var vid_html" declaires the variable. += just adds everything after it to what was already there. You've probably seen this with numbers before: some_number += 50; (will increment that number by 50 more than what it was previous to calling that)
Another way to write the above is like this:

It's just appending strings together to be a little more readable. And I removed your reference to "var vid=sym.$("holder");" because you're only calling "vid" to set the html text.

Smartform Different output formats in same language

I have a Bulgarian smartform which is translated via SE63 into English.We have a customizing table and according to some fields from there,the customer wants to have the english smartform to have slightly different outputs, no big differences,but for ex some bigger/smaller characters or some fields that should not be displayed.
How can i do this,because the only way to control this is via se63 that has no such option?

Look at SE63 translation screen, some constants texts are represented like <F1>пример</ > where <F1> is the character format, so translate it to <F2>example</ > and the text will be printed with another character format.
But it may be easier to check the language code in the Smartforms itself, especially for text that are not to be printed, (if you don't wont to translate text to initial value) or for full variable text (text item without any constant) that don't appear in the translation screen.

FCP 7 - Multiple formats on same Timeline

I am wondering about a new feature on FCP 7 regarding formats. My client has 1440 x 1080 HDV as well as SD (720 x 480 4 x3). My question is this - will the 4 x 3 SD footage automatically resize/reshape for the HDV footage or will the HDV footage reshape/resize for the 4 x 3 SD footage? Is there any other part of the process that I might be missing? Thanks.

If you create a sequence matching your SD footage, FCP can (in User Prefs > Editing) scale the HDV clips to match the sequence. Placing SD clips in an HD sequence does not scale to full screen because the quality suffers by this magnification. You can manually scale SD to HD and copy/paste those attributes to all necessary clips.
You do not mention frame rate. HDV, when recorded to tape, can only be 29.97. SD depending on source could be 23.976 or 29.97 (assuming U.S. NTSC standards). Your sequence needs to match the frame rate of your source footage.

Different video formats in CS4

I just produced a video using video clips from two diffrerent cameras. When I rendered the final product, I noticed that almost all of the videos from both cameras are very jerky and shaky. Both cameras videos are 640x480, but one recoded at 25 f/s while the other was 30 f/s. Would this difference be enough to cause the video problems? Is there a way to fix it?

Two different video formats in one video

by mistake, I shot a video using two cameras - one set at 1980x1080 and one 1440x1090
what is the best way to handle that?

Unless very little of the media is from the 60D and/or you have to output back to tape you're better off doing it the other way around. Gets you out of the whole world of conforming an MPEG codec, which is very weak codec for compositing.

Is there a way to have more than one video format in one sequence? (CS4)

I'm fairly new to Premiere Pro and I'd like to have segments of raw footage with different resolutions and frame rates in the same sequence so I can edit them together. Is there a way to do this in CS4? Thanks for your time.

Video formats allowed for f4fpackager

I'm facing issues with using f4fpackager for different video formats.
With mp4 file - which plays in a flash player properly - I get only one segment, and a f4m file without bootstrap info. This f4m file dosen't plays and I get stream not found.

I tried using the f4fpackager with flv files, but getting an error there too.

No the sample isn't same as FMS.
I'm able to fragment a video using another mp4 video. (Open source video downloaded from elephants dream site.)
But many others which I've tried, which are also mp4 videos, and which play well in flash player - are getting stuck. The generated f4m file segment I've already pasted above.
FLV files so far I've tried, are also not working. I get Error 14, Error when reading the FLV - So seems like again some format issue. I again can play this flv file directly from a flash player.

Several format in a timeline ?

Hi folks,
I was wondering in FCP could in anyways handle several video format in a timeline without rendering ? I hate the red line even in the quad.
I am postproducing a film that will be made mostly from archival footage, delivered from several sources... Some comes on digibeta, some on DV cam, some HD.... I have a Kona LHe card on the Quad. It seems not possible to me, but if there is a way to add per exemple DV footage on a 625 i 25 8bit uncompressed timeline, I would love to know how.

You have a Kona card. Capture it all as the same format. So if you did an offline/online workflow, capture all as offline RT, the when you online all as 8-bit uncompressed. So capture all your digibeta, DV, VHS, DVCPRO 50, betasp...all at offline RT. Or all at whatever codec you choose.
Heck, even Avids I worked on don't do this (not sure about the latest and greatest). You'd have to capture everything at 15:1...then 1:1.

HT3209 HD Video Formats

Is there a way to download different video formats? I can only get m4v and it won't play through a hardrive on my TV. I need quicktime, wmv, avi or something else...can this be done in the iTunes store preferences or at checkout?

For the record I have PE7 installed on a Dell Inspiron 530 desktop, a Celeron 1.60Ghz processor and 4MB ram running Vista Basic. I was blown away at how well it handled the .mts files straight off of an SDHC card. This footage was shot on a friend's Canon HF10 1080p camcorder. I easily retrieved files (get media) added to timeline, edited both audio and video and finally burned a DVD without any problems whatsoever. Very pleased! Unfortunately, the MP4 files from my Sanyo Xacti 720p camcorder cause PE7 to crash repeatedly, where PE3 and PE4 handled the just fine!
