Different ways of starting external java activity agent?

Hi All,
Can any one tell me different of ways of starting Oracle Workflow 2.6.4.0.0 JAVA Function Activity Agent in Solaris .
The one option i know is using shell script wfjvlsnr.csh.This option requires connection string to be given.
But according to the user of my application ,im allowed to use only datasource to get the workflow database connection.
Can any one please let me whether there is option to run java activity listner using Workflow database as datasource.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Cherry

Can any one pls help me out...plsssssss

    Hi,
    I am using integrated web logic server. Do I have to create JDBC connection in Integrated Weblogic Server? If yes, then how come it was working earlier and stopped working suddenly.
    Just to try out, I have created JDBC with a name soademo (As mentioned in bc4j.xml) in Integrated Weblogic Server but didn't worked.
    I will send you sample java class for your reference.
    public class TestClient {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            String amDef = "com.moj.model.AM.AppModule";
            String config = "AppModuleLocal";
            ApplicationModule am =
                Configuration.createRootApplicationModule(amDef, config);
            ViewObject emplist = am.findViewObject("EmployeesView1");
            emplist.setWhereClause("first_name = :p_firstname");
            emplist.defineNamedWhereClauseParam("p_firstname", null, null);
            emplist.setNamedWhereClauseParam("p_firstname", "Smith");
            emplist.executeQuery();
            while (emplist.hasNext()) {
                Row emp = emplist.next();
                System.out.println ("emp " + emp.getAttribute("Empno"));
                System.out.println("First Name " + emp.getAttribute("FirstName"));
                System.out.println("Last Name " + emp.getAttribute("LastName"));
            Configuration.releaseRootApplicationModule(am, true);
    Appreciate if you can provide me in more detail as I have started working on very recently.

  • Problem calling a EJB Java Client from Java Activity Agent

    Hi,
    We have a wrapper java class that calls to an EJB through a JNDI lookup. The wrapper class is called from a workflow. The problem is that the call fail with the following message error:
    Error : getRemoteHome Lugar: ServiceLocator NamingException Mensaje Error: Receive timed out
    Mon Jan 09 15:32:13 EST 2006 Enqueuing VIC/97513 com.tallion.tax.workflow.assessment.Update
    F_FN_ERROR (MODULE=com.tallion.tax.workflow.assessment.Update) (ITEMTYPE=VIC) (ITEMKEY=97513) (ACTID=10617) (FUNCMODE=RUN) (ERRMESSAGE=getRemoteHome Lugar: ServiceLocator NamingException Mensaje Erro
    The wrapper class has in their classpath a jndi.properties as follows:
    java.naming.factory.initial=org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContextFactory
    java.naming.provider.url=69.0.137.120:1099
    java.naming.factory.url.pkgs=org.jboss.naming:org.jnp.interfaces
    The call just works fine when we restart the Java Activity Agent and then, after a while it fails again with the same error.
    Any ideas/workaround?
    Thanks.

    I have a situation that is a bit similar. I have successfully used beans for storing methods used in JSPs and used by other methods in the same class as was suggested above. Now I would like to break some methods into another (utility) class since they are lower level and can be used by lots of things. They are for database operations (given a String query and String dbname, it queries and returns ResultSet for example). I want to have them in a separate class for reusability and OOP.
    I am having problems calling those public static methods in the public class from my bean that communicates with the JSP. I can't compile the class that calls the method in the database ops class. I get an error like :
    loginHelper.java:45: cannot find symbol
    symbol : variable sqlHelper
    location: class dbHelperBean.loginHelper
    and when I include the package name in the call I get
    loginHelper.java:45: cannot find symbol
    symbol : class sqlHelper
    location: package dbHelperBean
    That's strange since the package of both classes is dbHelperBean and the class is indeed called sqlHelper. I tried to compile it in the same directory as sqlHelper as well. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks for any help.

  • Different ways to start a run?

    We have written a C-Sharp application that is a GUI wrapper around TestStand to hand-hold the operator through setup and execution of a test. I have noticed the following behavior differences with each of the different ways to start a sequence file running:
    a) When we useSequenceFileViewMgr.Run() to start the execution, TestStand does not prompt for a UUT serial number and it does not generate a DisplayReport event.
    b) When we use SequenceFileViewMgr.GetCommand(CommandKinds.CommandKind_ExecutionEntryPoints_Set).Execute(true) to start the execution, TestStand does prompt for a UUT serial number and it does generate a DisplayReport event.
    c) When we useSequenceFileViewMgr.GetCommand(CommandKinds.CommandKind_ExecutionEntryPoints_Set, 1).Execute(true) to start the execution, TestStand does not prompt for a UUT serial number and it does generate a DisplayReport event.
    Are there other ways (better ways) to start an execution from a C-sharp application?
    Behavior "C" is the behavior I am looking for, but I would like to understand why the calls have different results?
    Can someone enlighten me?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    tlaford,
    What you're essentially doing is running different execution entry points.  If you look at the execute menu in the sequence editor, you will see three options (with the default process model, if you have a custom process model, you may have a different number).
    Test UUTs
    Single Pass
    Run <Name of current sequence>
    When you call .Run() you're doing the same operation as Run <sequence name> from the menu.  This runs just the currently selected sequence and nothing else.  Great for debugging, but does not use the process model framework.
    When you use one of the ExecutionEntryPoints, you are running one of the execution entry points from the process model.  Those generally call into the MainSequence sequence of your client sequence file.  And they perform other operations (such as gathering UUT data, and reporting) around the execution of your client file.  The default process models have TestUUTs as index 0 and SinglePass as index 1.
    Using the SequenceFileViewMgr is the best way to start a new execution from a user interface programmatically.
    Hope this helps.

  • Fast return from Java Activity Agent

    Hello,
    long ago I had defined some workflows using the Java Activity Agent. But now I have to create a new flow with a lot of very short activities, and I want to return control to the workflow engine as fast as possible when they complete, without waiting for the next call to background processing. Is there any known best practice to achieve this? I have tried to enqueue calls to the background engine in my java classes, but this doesn't seem a solution.
    Thank you in advance,
    Antonio

    Hello,
    I didn't post my solution because it's very hackish, though it has dramatically improved my execution time.
    But to answer your curiosity...
    I have added a listener to the inbound queue, thus replacing the loop to call the background engine with calls synchronized with inbound messages. Additionally I call the background engine every 30 seconds, just in case, and so that the loop exit condition is checked.
    So, here's my basic listener/background handler:
    DECLARE
            q_agent sys.aq$_agent;
            wf_agent sys.aq$_agent := sys.aq$_agent(NULL,'OWF_MGR.WF_INBOUND_QUEUE',0);
            v_tab_agents DBMS_AQ.aq$_agent_list_t;
    BEGIN
            v_tab_agents(1) := wf_agent;
           WHILE( < ANY CONDITION TO STOP PROCESSING ... > ) LOOP
             dbms_aq.listen(
             agent_list => v_tab_agents,
             WAIT => 30, /* in seconds, may be   DBMS_AQ.FOREVER */
             agent => q_agent
             owf_mgr.wf_engine.background;
         --    DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('Date: ' || TO_CHAR(SYSDATE,'yyyy/mm/dd hh24:mi:ss' );
              END LOOP;
    END;

  • Is there a way to start a JAVA program from the dock?

    Hello,
    I wrote some JAVA applications and I would like to put them in -
    - and start them from - the dock.
    These applications were built into .jar files.
    I can start them from Finder which tells me that there is some .jar starter utility.
    ;JOOP!

    The Dock is for Applications, Documents, and Folders (which can take several forms). There are some other odd animals that can stay in the Dock, but they were never truly implemented (recent items is one). If you "wrap" the .jar file inside some package that behaves as an application, you can have it stay in the Dock just as any other Application.
    A .jar file is not an application, it's a java archive. It is a collection of classes, metadata, etc. which the Java runtime interprets and executes. The Application which runs it shows up in the Dock as the coffee cup, but that is just the runtime engine, not the .jar.
    The .jar is like any other document, such as a a word processing document. Just like any document, it can be double-clicked and the handling application will be called to open it. Double-clicking that word processing document causes the word processing application to open the document and interpret its contents. Double-clicking the .jar file causes the java runtime engine to open the .jar file and interpret its contents. Instead of presenting it as paragraphs of text, it displays it as the application it represents.

  • Different ways to compare the java objects

    Hi,
    I want to compare rather search one object in collection of thousands of objects.
    And now i am using the method which uses the unique id's of objects to compare. still that is too much time consuming operation in java.
    so i want the better way to compare the objects giving me the high performance.

    If you actually tried using a HashMap, and (if necessary) if you correctly implemented certain important methods in your class (this probably wasn't necessary but might have been), and if you used HashMap in a sane way and not an insane way, then you should be getting very fast search times.
    So I conclude that one of the following is true:
    1) you really didn't try using HashMap.
    2) you tried using hashmap, but did so incorrectly (although it's actually pretty simple...)
    3) your searches are pretty fast, and any sluggishness you're seeing is caused by something else.
    4) your code isn't actually all that sluggish, but you assume it must be for some reason.

  • Using Arrays in external Java Methods

    Hello,
    I want to write an external Java Method. The method should access an Attribute. The Attribute should store an array of strings (e.g. {"value1", "value2", "..."}).
    Is there a possibility to store a stringarray in an Attribute? How could I access the different values in the external Java Method?
    Thanks for your help.
    Benedikt

    Benedikt,
    I don't think you can.
    But why don't you use a java.util.StringTokenizer object instead ?
    If I look in the workflow db, a value of an attribute is defined as varchar2(4000), so that should give you enough space.

    Chris.

  • How to start a java program on another machine from one on my machine.

    During the next few weeks, I will be designing a grid computing system for a research project I am working on. The grid will be written entirely in java using java 2 SE. The question I have is, is there a way for the main program to remotely start the other programs on the other machines? I am very familiar with most networking concepts, but java is not my primary language so I was having trouble tracking down this feature if java even has it. Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks

    The administrators of each machine have agreed to install my java programs so that I may run my software. Worst case scenario I can have them manually start my program on each machine. The grid is to be the backbone of a very large simulation software to simulate around 18 million ISO shipping containers and the boats and ports they are on. The simulation will be used to test several security system designs. Because of the large scale of the problem, the solution has been decided to be a distributed system so that we can spread the load over a large number of systems. I understand the whole start a service on the other machines concept. I am looking for a way to start an already installed java program with as little human intervention as possible. The service idea will work. What I was looking for more specifically was a way to start the java virtual machine and run my code without having to leave a program running on their machine because like i said earlier they are personal machines. anyways if it is not do able I understand. Like I said, java is a second language and I don't yet know its limits or restraints.

  • Unable to start Java Function Activity Agent

    When I try to start the Java Function Activity Agent
    I get the following message:
    Workflow JAVA Execution Agent
    Oracle Workflow 2.6.0 JAVA Function Activity Agent
    Error in parameters
    Is there any way to tell what parameters it is referring to?
    Thanks, Tom

    Just to clarify:
    The Oracle Workflow Java Function Activity Agent is supported by Oracle for the Database and Application Server releases. It was not certified for Oracle E-Business Suite customers, as we thought it better to focus our efforts on the Oracle Workflow J2EE Engine. In the next standalone releases, we will be provinding better system management for the Java Function Activity Agent, on demand processes, that sort of thing.
    We did a lot of work to make sure that messages do not get lost ie. if an unexpected error is encountered, the transaction will get rolled back and the message will go back on the queue. If you are finding messages get lost, there are 2 possibilities: a bug in your code (ie. the transaction was committed in your code, so roll back would not help), or a bug in our code (a reproducible test case would be helpful).
    Cheers
    Mark

  • What's an easy way to start an agent in current JVM after it is running?

    I want to be able to start a Java agent in the current JVM. I cannot control how the JVM is started, therefore I cannot specify -javaagent on the java command.
    I know the attach API lets me attach to a JVM if I have its PID. But unless I have missed something there is no platform-independent way of getting the current PID to pass to VirtualMachine.attach.
    I have run an experiment that seems to work in which my code:
    1. Uses File.createTempFile to create a unique temp file.
    2. Sets a system property to the temp file's path.
    3. Uses VirtualMachine.list to get VirtualMachineDescriptors for all known VMs.
    4. For each VMD:
    4a. Attaches to the VM using theVirtualMachineDescriptor.id().
    4b. Retrieves the system properties from the VM.
    4c. Searches the Properties for the system property name and, if found, checks its value.
    4d. If they match, the VirtualMachine in the loop is the currently-running VM one and do what I want.
    4e. If they do not match, detach from that VM and check the next VM in the list.
    This is terribly cumbersome, plus it requires that tools.jar be available.
    Is there no simpler way to establish an agent in the current VM? Or to attach to the current VM?
    (I also tried passing an empty string and "-1" as the PID to VirtualMachine.attach with no luck. Not that I expected those to work, given that the JavaDoc said nothing about these special values.)
    Thanks.

    Thanks a lot for the pointers, Alan.
    The real underlying difficulty I didn't mention earlier is that Java Web Start is launching the applications of interest here. The JNLP spec currently provides no way of indicating an agent in the JNLP document, the -javaagent command line option is not one of the ones that Java Web Start chooses to handle (for the obvious security reasons I presume), and JNLP provides no mechanism for defining environment variables. So perhaps this is a lost cause until the JNLP spec and/or the Java Web Start implementation evolve.
    (There is a bug from years ago filed against Java Web Start asking for the equivalent of the -javaagent feature.)
    My questions in this thread reflect my (unsuccessful) attempts at side-stepping those Java Web Start restrictions.
    It does seem to me that the management enhancements over the past several Java SE versions have done a nice job of allowing different JVMs to manage and monitor each other. The special case of a JVM managing or monitoring itself is not so easy. In my particular case I don't really need the ability to attach to a different JVM. If I could just get the VirtualMachine instance for the current JVM (without needing tools.jar) I'd be done and on my way.
    Is that worth an RFE against management/monitoring do you think?
