Different ways to return results using a stored proc to calling application

Hi, Can someone please suggest me different ways of returning results( set of rows and columns) from a stored procedure to calling application.
Currently I am using sys_refcursor to return results to front end. Stored proc is executed fast, but cursor access and retrieval of results has some overhead.
So can you suggest the ways which will be faster than this approach.

Currently the procedure executes quickly but the results from the ref cursor are returned slowly, this is because the query is slow, for whatever reason.
Collecting in all the rows in the stored procedure first before returning them will
a) Make the stored procedure slower taking the same amount of time to execute as current query takes to complete.
b) Use more memory.
c) Put more stress on the network as all rows will be transferred at once instead of using the arraysize/fetchsize to to fetch the rows in smaller packets.

    I am using parallel processing in one of my program and it is working fine but I am not able to collect return results using RECIEVE statement.
    I am using
      CALL FUNCTION <FUNCTION MODULE NAME>
             STARTING NEW TASK TASKNAME DESTINATION IN GROUP DEFAULT_GROUP
             PERFORMING RETURN_INFO ON END OF TASK
    and then in subroutine RETURN_INFO I am using RECEIVE statement.
    My RFC is calling another BAPI and doing explicit commit as well.
    Any pointer will be of great help.

    I used the wait command after rfc call and it worked additionally I have used Message switch in Receive statement because RECIEVE statement was returing sy-subrc 2.

    Not sure what's going on here. Possibly a corrupt drive? Or the target drive is full?
    Try running the imagex command manually from a F8 cmd window (in WinPE)

  • Trying to Execute Catalog SSIS Package using Catalog stored proc by a Master SSIS package inside a Loop

    To Execute Packages deployed in Catalog , I have created a wrapper SP  which internally calls  catalog SP  ( below is the code )

    Since i have multiple Packages , I am looping through list of PackageName and trying to pass package names to this SP by ExecureSQLTask inside ForLoop Container . But it errors out saying 
     "Cannot access the package or the package does not exist. Verify that the package exists and that the user has permissions to it.
    BUt same Execute SQL task , if i keep it outside the ForLoop Container it works perfectly fine . 
    I am  clueless , Please Please HELP me ASAP :( 
    Question :
    How is that possible to execute same SP with same parameter outside Container , But not in SEQUENCE or FORLOOP or FOREACH Container ?
    Also 
    How to make a master package to execute SSIS deployed packages via TSQL using catalog stored proc ?

    Hi , 
    After debugging i am getting parameter values as  
    {Extract - ARTL.dtsx\r\n} Unable to evaluate the expression.
    Why do i get  \r\n which i dont want in parameters .
    Actually i pick the values of package name from a custom table . I check it there are no spaces in the cell.
    Any IDEA WHY ? Please help
    Finally it worked to call Wrapper Class for EXEC [SSISDB].[catalog].[create_execution]
    stored procedure .
    Basically , ERROR MESSAGE is culprit
     "Cannot access the package or the package does
    not exist. Verify that the package exists and that the user has permissions to it. 
    Above Message : causing us to think
    its an Access issue , But actually when you pass parameter incorrectly even a " " space or "\n" extra to value, you will get that error .
    Nothing related to access problem .
    Actually , In the parameter which i was passing :
    {Extract - ARTL.dtsx\r\n} --> String with Enter / Carriage Return and Break line was there 
    I have removed the Enter in that variable value .
    Now its WORKING FINE ! Hurry :D :)

  • Tuning a procedure and using dbms_job.submit proc that call's functions

    I have Procedure that have 3 curosrs which are nested one below with in each other
    and it looks as below
    it's structure will look some thing look like this

    Here one loop is used for fetching 5000 records at time and
    Here deu_process cursor is opened ,assume it fetches one record
    Here another cursor dup_all is used for fetching the records and assume it fetched 400000 then
    Here another cursor is opened name where it fetches 10 rows
    Here logic is if first row then
    call's stored function which has following functionalty
    it compares fields such as address of outer most cursor i.e deu_process with all the address of the other rows i.e 400000 rows and return a number
    if second row then
    call's another stored function which has
    compares other fields such as first name,last name
    if third then other field
    so on ....
    up to 10
    and then finally ends
    so if i comment all the rules loop then it takes only one min to execute .If it validaes all of them if takes 14 minutes to execute .so there is problem in that 10 procedures to execute
    So i found an approach to run all the rules simultaneously using dbms_job .But i face a problem that i can't uderstand how to send the input and out put parameter's to calling procedure.And these parameter's must be passed by variable from called procedure to calling procedure
    Please suggest me what is the syntax of dbms_job with input and output parameters with variable's that must be passed as formal parameter's

    Hi, I know there are three ways to pass out a value from a Microsoft SQL stored procedure, but I have no clear idea what Oracle SP can do, I know Oracle doesn't support multi-recordset(v8), can not return a recordset by a inner select query, but I do know there is a cursor object, which doesn't like its counterpart in Microsoft SQL server, is a choice under most situation. Here I wonder anyone who is good at Oracle can give a list of all ways to return data from a SP, including example is more better, thanks.

    Here is a way to get return a record from a function and a procedure. You need to be familiar with Oracle packages as well as stored procedures and functions:

    Note that you can return any Oracle data type from a function. Likewise, you can specify any Oracle data type as an out parameter in a procedure. Also, you can make a parameter both an in and an out datatype like this:

  • Problem Obtaining multiple results from MySql Stored Proc via JDBC

    I've spent alot of time on this and I'd be really grateful for anyones help please!
    I have written a java class to execute a MySQL stored procedure that does an UPDATE and then a SELECT. I want to handle the resultset from the SELECT AND get a count of the number of rows updated by the UPDATE. Even though several rows get updated by the stored proc, getUpdateCount() returns zero.
    It's like following the UPDATE with a SELECT causes the updatecount info to be lost. I tried it in reverse: SELECT first and UPDATE last and it works properly. I can get the resultset and the updatecount.
    My Stored Procedure:

    In my program (below) callablestatement.execute() returns TRUE even though the first thing I do in my stored proc is an UPDATE not a SELECT. Is this at odds with the JDBC 2 API? Shouldn't it return false since the first "result" returned is NOT a resultset but an updatecount? Does JDBC return any resultsets first by default, even if INSERTS, UPDATES happened in the stored proc before the SELECTs??

    The output of running the program at command line:

    During my testing I have noticed:
    1. According to the Java documentation execute() returns true if the first result is a ResultSet object; false if the first result is an update count or there is no result. In my java class callablestatement.execute() will return TRUE if in the stored proc the UPDATE is done first and then the SELECT last or vica versa.
    2. My java class (above) is coded to loop through all results returned from the stored proc in succession. Running this class shows that any resultsets are returned first and then update counts last regardless of the order in which they appear in the stored proc. Maybe there is nothing unusual here, it may be that Java is designed to return any Resultsets first by default even if they didn't happen first in the stored procedure?
    3. In my stored procedure, if the UPDATE happens last then callablestatement.getUpdateCount() will return the correct number of updated rows.
    4. If the UPDATE is followed by a SELECT (see above) then callablestatement.getUpdateCount() will return ZERO even though rows were updated.
    5. I tested it with the stored proc doing SELECT - UPDATE - SELECT and again getUpdateCount() returns ZERO.
    6. I tested it with the stored proc doing SELECT - UPDATE - SELECT - UPDATE and this time getUpdateCount() returns the number rows updated by the last UPDATE and not the first.
    My Setup:
    Mac OS X 10.3.9
    Java 1.4.2
    mysql database 5.0.19
    mysql-connector 5.1.10 (connector/J)
    Maybe I have exposed a bug in JDBC?

    When a MySql stored procedure has multiple sql statements such as SELECT and UPDATE these statements each produce what the Java API documentation refers to as 'results'. A Java class can cycle through these 'results' using callableStatement dot getMoreResults(), getResultSet() and getUpdateCount() to retrieve the resultset object produced by Select queries and updateCount produced by Inserts, Deletes and Updates.
    As I read your question it seems to me that you have already proven that it does not in fact do that?
    You don't have to read this but in case you think I'm mistaken, there is more detail in the following website under the heading 'Using the Method execute':

    Sounds reasonable. But does not your example code prove that this is not what happens for the database and driver that you are using?
    Myself I dont trust update counts at all since, in my experience some databases do not return them. And per other reports sometimes they don't return the correct value either.
    So there are two possibilities - your code is wrong or the driver/database does not do it. For me I would also question whether in the future the driver/database would continue to behave the same if you did find some special way to write your SQL so it does do it. And of course you would also need to insure that every proc that needed this would be written in this special way. Hopefully not too many of those.
    So this functionality is built into java but is not in common use amongst programmers. My java class did successfully execute a stored proc which Selected from and then finally Updated a table. My code displayed the contents of the Select query and told me how many rows were affected by the update.
    It isn't "built into java". It isn't built into jdbc either. If it works at all then the driver and by proxy the database are responsible for it. I suspect that you would be hard pressed to find anything in the JDBC spec that requires what that particular link claims. I believe it is difficult to find anything that suggests that update counts in any form are required.
    So you are left with hoping that a particular driver does do it.
    I suppose it is rare that you would want to do things this way. Returning rowcounts in OUT parameters would be easier but I want my code to be modular enough to cover the situation where a statement may return more than one ResultSet object, more than one update count, or a combination of ResultSet objects and update counts. The sql may need to be generated dynamically, its statements may be unknown at compile time. For instance a user might have a form that allows them to build their own queries...
    Any time I see statements like that it usually makes me a bit uncomfortable. If I am creating data layers I either use an existing framework or I generate the code. For the latter there is no generalization of the usage. Every single operation is laid out in its own code.
    And I have in fact created generalized frameworks in the past before. I won't do it again. Benefits of the other idioms during maintenance are too obvious.

    My requirement is that I have to generate a CSV file which has customer details. Each value that is comma separated comes from different set of SQL queries. I want to write a stored procedure along with java code to acieve this. How do I go about it? Should I return multiple cursors from my stored proc and iterate from the java side to create the CSV file? Any other suggestions?

    My VBA is super rusty. Does that error come after Parameters.Refresh, or after .Parameters("i_caller").Value = "'STG_DATA_REQUEST'"?
    If it's the second one, you'll need the definition of the stored procedure so you can see what parameters it's expecting. That'd mean you're getting something wrong with the names.

  • Can you refine people search results using a SharePoint 2013 search service application connected in SharePoint 2010?

    We have an SP2010 farm which is now using some of the service applications from an SP2013 farm, including the search, managed metadata and user profile.  This is part of an upgrade programme of work which will involve upgrading infrastructure and
    then gradually the sites, and this is seen as one way to minimise the impact.
    So, the SP2010 search results are being generated by the SP2013 which is indexing the SP2010 content.  The initial results appear fine, however, the refiners in the people results for Job Title and Department are no longer working.  We are receiving
    a 404 page not found, even though the page is there as was working before.
    If we compare the URL generated in SP2010 for refining results to an OOTB SP2013 search centre site, there is clearly a big difference to the format.  Example below is where LastName is Smith and then refined where Department is HR.
    SP2010 URL which now gives a 404 error:

    All working now.  Turns out there was an entry in the web.config which was causing issues.
      <denyQueryStringSequences>
          <add sequence="ID" />
      </denyQueryStringSequences>
    Seems IIS is denying something in the query string.  We removed the whole section as was not needed.

    Thanks to a colleague who spotted this; I would've never of thought to check the web.config for something like this.

    The package is created okay, but the procedure is saved with compilation errors. Unfortunately, Oracle does not indicate what the errors are (great product), so I have no idea what it is complaining about.
    Questions:
    1) Can anyone point me to/or provide a better example?
    2) The examples in books I have seen all would have declared the procedure in the package specification - is the above valid?
    3) This is a PowerBuilder specific question, but if the package does not show up in the stored procedure list when creating a data window object, how does one use it as a data source?

    1) Everything looks fine with your code. You did not mention the environment you are compiling your code in, but if it is SQL*Plus, you can type 'show errors' after the compile and it will list the errors and line numbers for you.
    2) You can include the procedure in the package - in which case you would have a procedure declaration in the spec and the actual procedure in the body. You would no longer include the 'create or replace' - the declaration and procedure would just start with 'procedure'. The spec would look include:
    PROCEDURE sp_dw_example1
      (arg_teamid IN st_sa.comcodsa%TYPE,
       cur_team OUT cur_example_cur1);Note the removal of the package reference (since we are now IN the package) and the second parameter is just OUT instead of IN OUT.
    3) Not much, but I know that in PB8, our developers have said they have visibility now to the package when creating a DW - something they didn't have in PB7. Previously, we had to create a dummy standalone procedure that they would select and they would later modify the code to include the package prefix.
