Disabling Horizontal Scroll in Mountain Lion (Magic Mouse)?

So I've tried pretty much everything and can't seem to this.
The following things used to work under Lion and before, it seems but having tried all of them, I'm at a loss for what to do. I like the magic mouse, but
when doing any development like coding or doing something in illustrator or Photoshop. The horizontal scroll makes my content jump all over the place.
Very frustrated hope someone can help. Here are all the things I've tried.
Open a terminal shell:
defaults write com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.mouse MouseHorizontalScroll -bool NO
This no longer does anything.
I tried installing MagicPrefs to try and 'overwrite' the scroll functionality for horizontal movement... it doesn't work
I tried installing BetterTouchTool (BTT) to also overwrite the scroll functionality for horizontal movement... again it doesn't work.
What does work:
It seems I can go into System Preferences > Accessibility > Mouse & Trackpad > Mouse Options >  uncheck scrolling.
But this gets rid of all scrolling even vertical.
Now if MagicPrefs or BTT had a vertical scroll action you could bind to up/down swipes this would be fine, but they don't.
So, at a loss for what to do.

If you have windows 7 this might work for you. Found from another forum post here.

Re: how to disable horizontal scrolling with magic mouse in win7?
Mar 19, 2013 8:30 AM (in response to lexa_xxx)
I use MagicMouse on iMac with Windows 7 running (installed through BootCamp). Got sick of annoying horizontal scrolling. The solution described above has helped me to disable it. Here is what I've done in steps:
1) go to http://www.autohotkey.com/ and download an app (a script editor).
2) Install and run the program - please note that it will not open as it runs in the background
3) Rightclick on the desktop -> choose "New" -> "AutoHotkey Script" (a new script file will be created on the desktop) -> name it as you wish (e.g. "Mouse_HScroll")
4) Rightclick on the file you've just created and choose "Edit Script" from the menu.
5) Add these three lines below existing text in the file:
WheelLeft::return
WheelRight::return
#MaxHotkeysPerInterval 5000
6) Save file
7) Run "Convert .ahk to .exe" program from the package installed earlier and browse the file you've just created, hit ">Convert<" -> .exe file should be created. Run this file -> the scrolling should be disabled now.
7) You may wish to move this file to Start/"Autorun" folder, so it would be launched automatically each time you reboot your Mac/PC.
Hope this helps! Good Luck

  • After installing Mountain Lion my mouse won't scroll

After installing Mountain Lion my mouse won't scroll up or down.  It will, on occasion, scroll left.

Which mouse do you have? If it has a mechanical scroll ball on the top then it's simply dirty and needs cleaning. However if you are using Magic Mouse then please click iMac SMC and PRAM reset and do both resets 2x.

  • Scrolling and rightclicking with magic mouse doesnt  work anymore

Suddenly scrolling and rightclicking with magic mouse doesnt work any more. Left clicking and cursor moving works normal. I have checked the system preferences for the mouse and find nothing strange or unchecked. Any ideas?

  • Turning off CMD + SCROLL zooming with Apple Magic Mouse?

Scrolling with Apple's Magic Mouse is extremely sensitive in Fireworks, so sometimes when I use a keyboard shortcut that involves the command key and I accidentally leave it pressed for just a split second after I perform the shortcut and I scroll at the same time, Fireworks will recognize the held-down key as wanting to "scroll'n zoom" and will quickly zoom in way too far/far out, sometimes causing the program to hang for freeze. Has anyone else experienced this and would be able to explain it better? It happens way too much for me. :/

    Hi
Same probem is here, suddenly pointer stopped to be active and no tracking at all. All buttons, gestures etc are performing well.
    - paired / unpaired > no result
    - replaced batteries > no result
    - cleaned contacts inside mouse > no result
    - cleaned laser > no result
Light is blinking only a few after mouse is connected, and completely stops to blink, while mouse buttons are working.
Tried to find solution on web, does not help much.
    Any solution?
    Thanks

  • Problems with scrolling after mountain lion download.

I just downloaded mountain lion today and ever since the download I am having issues with the scrolling for my magic mouse and trackpad. My problem is when I scroll down on my mouse or trackpad it actually goes up on the page and vice versa. I have seen others have had some scrolling issues but not exactly the same as mine. Just wondering if there is any known fix for this problem? I did the PRAM reset and also the SMC reset and that didn't fix the problem unfortunately.

Look in System Preferences > Trackpad (or mouse) > Scroll & Zoom tab > uncheck Scroll direction: Natural.
The scrolling direction has been changed to a technique where your push the screen up or pull it down, takes a few days to get used to.  The swipe directions will also be affected by this change.

  • Are there any apps that make it now possible to scroll with Mountain Lion ?

I just gave up on a project that required me to be able to scroll through a Senate bill. I'll probably go back, but it just shouldn't be so difficult, so painful. and I'm not talking about the bill's language. No, it's just Apple's decision to do away with the USEABLE search arrows that existed before Mountain Lion, and, yes, I know that you can use the little up and down triangles--sometimes--for this purpose.  I have written to Apple about this on more than one occasion, but I never felt that this would do any good. Anyway, I came here to see if anyone knows of an app that has been developed to overcome this strange, almost malicious, behavior of Apple's. Are there any apps I can use on my iMac for scrolling? If not why not? I know I have a lot of company in my disgust with Apple's behavior, so I have to there is some prohibitively difficult problem that makes such a fix impossible. Is that the reason why no one has come to the rescue of Apple's suffering customers?

For very long documents in PDF or on a web page, I just lean on the space bar for big jumps (Shift-spacebar goes up), or on the down arrow keys for short scrolling. If I'm on my laptop, the trackpad provides both large jumps and fine control. If I'm on my desktop, I love my scroll wheel mouse.
In apps like Word, you can't scroll with the spacebar because you need it to type spaces, so I just use the Page Up/Page Down keys. On short Mac keyboards you press Fn+Up Arrow or Fn+Down Arrow to page up/down.
There are so many more and better ways to scroll now compared to the 1980s when the only way was to click-click-click over and over again on stupid scroll arrows. If it stopped scrolling it meant you had to re-aim the mouse because the mouse slipped a little and the arrow is no longer hitting the arrow. If you wanted to scroll up, you had to move the mouse quite a ways because the arrows were on opposite ends of the bar. Scroll arrows were the worst and least efficient way to scroll and I don't miss them at all.
I'm glad we have so many superior alternatives now where, unlike scroll arrows, you don't even have to look at the screen to scroll quickly and accurately. Today, the only good use for a scroll bar is to tell you how far you are through the document.

  • Scrolling with Mountain Lion

I just dropped in to see if there are any apps that have been developed to enable the user to scroll pages. Please don't bother telling me to complain to Apple because, at the suggestion of people on this board, I have already done that. I'm just checking, and hoping, that there are now apps out there that enable a Mac user do to what was always posssible until Mountain Lion. Yes, I know about using those little directional triangles, but they're  not really the answer.

    Linda,
Your comments have haunted me ever since I saw them way back in March. Today I may be able to offer you some useful advice. Here are some things that seem to have solved the problem for me. I might add that I had some difficuilty in installing Smart Scroller, but maybe the fault was mine. Anyway, I downloaded it from MacUpdate for only $10.00+ and today I am beginning  seeing the benefits (Yesterday, when Installed it, I thought I might have wasted my money).
    ==========                        ====
    (1) Try changing the scrolling speed (System Preferences>Accessibility>Trackpad (or mouse) options>scrolling speed
“That might have done the trick. I haven't yet given the new settings a complete check, but setting tracking speed to "slowest" and scrolling speed to "fastest". enabled me to scroll as I haven't been able do since I installed Mountain Lion.
    (2) You might try Smart Scroll <http://www.marcmoini.com/sx_en.html.> I don’t know about Marcini, but I downloaded it from MacUpdate

  • Mountain Lion - Bluetooth Mouse & Keyborad Disconects Frequently

    MacMini Mid 2011.
My Bluetooth trackpad and keyboard disconects frequently, all after Mountain Lion installation

I'm having identical issues. I've got a new MacBook Air. First use was today and I'm already having issues.
The symptoms I've seen so far are:
    - Magic Mouse won't recognise many first touches/clicks and I have to repeat to get the required action
    - Bluetooth Keyboard will 'disconnect', appear connected and yet it doesn't work
    - In Keynote, bluetooth keyboard and laptop keyboard will stop typing text, although I can still use Cmd+Tab to switch apps and they both type fine in the other app. This has happened repeatedly over the last hour, frustrating when you're trying to get a document done!
A quick scout of other discussions suggests that disconnecting Documents and Data from iCloud may solve this, I'm a DropBox user so I've done that and will now see if it resolves the issue.
    Any other suggestions are welcome!

  • Disable horizontal scroll in multicolumn listbox

I'm using a Multicolumn listbox and I programmatically change the cell to be edited using UP, DOWN, RIGHT and LEFT keyboard keys.
Everything is working exept for the rightmost column: when I press the RIGHT key, the cursor moves to the next cell inside the rightmost column but all the table scrolls to the right (even if not really necessary) preventing the user from seeing the first column (leftmost). Is it possible in some way to lock or totally disable the horizontal scroll?
    Every idea would be welcome.

I don't think there's a way to completely disable scrolling (once you ask the MCLB to show you a cell, it will probably do whatever it can to show it to you), but you can start by making the scrollbar invisible and by setting the Top Left Visible Cell property to [X, 0] every time you move a cell. If this doesn't work, you should upload your code. We play better when we have what to work with.
Try to take over the world!

  • Scrolling in Mountain lion

The question is, how to make scrollig in Safari (for example) slower. When I check my updates on twitter or any other long page, after three scrolls down (using magic mouse) the scroll become too fast!

Go to System Preferences > Accessibility > Mouse & Trackpad. In that screen, click the "Mouse Options..." button in the lower right.
In the new screen, try setting the "Scrolling" pulldown menu to "without inertia". You may also need to experiment with the "Scrolling speed" slider.
Note - the changes you make are 'live', meaning you can leave the prefs window open while testing the results.

  • How to disable spaces entirely in Mountain Lion?

    Hi there,
I just upgraded to mountain lion from snow leopard – I do not use or like using Spaces, and I've turned off all possible options in "mission control" but I still find that moutain lion is separating my firefox windows and other app windows to different spaces and it's driving me bonkers. I have never needed Spaces, I find just simple Expose to be the perfect solution, no matter how many windows I have running – how can I just completely disable Spaces in Mountain Lion?
    Any insight is greatly appreciated!

I ran into a problem where sliding my cursor over to the RHS and hesitating "too long" there caused the Desktop to shift Right and reveal the 2nd Desktop that was hiding over there. I don't recall actually creating such a Desktop in the past - but this situation was outrageously annoying because I keep my Dock on the RHS, and apparently while hesitating trying to find a specific item in the Dock, Mountain Lion thought I meant to take it to the 2nd Desktop. This was Unexpected Behavior.
Similar to _daniel_, I have two large monitors (27" iMac and 27" external) and so Spaces/Multiple Desktops is really not necessary for me now. Even when I had only one monitor, it was a little challenging to use. I understand the concept, and I think it can be useful - I vaguely recall making use of it when all I had was a 20" iMac screen and wanted multiple apps open at the same time. Right now though, it's usefulness is pretty minimal.
While there is no way to "turn Spaces off", I resolved my issue with the help of silvergc's comment, launching Mission Control and clicking the X in the upper left corner of the 2nd Desktop. No more Desktop-Space-switching for me.
    Thanks to silvergc and _daniel_!

  • Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, my mouse pointer often disappears upon waking the computer from sleep.

Anybody else having this problem. Know how to fix it? My mini is the low-end mid 2011 model, using the mouse with the trackpad built in (magic mouse?).

    Hello,
I wonder if it's a variation of this, of which I've seen many different symptoms...
    Resolution
Move the mouse or trackpad cursor over the center area of the login window so you can see the user icons. Click on the icon of the user that you would like to login as, type in the user's password, and press Return.
If the login window is configured to show only the name and password fields, type in the user's name and password into the fields, and press Return (even if you cannot see the rest of the login window).
    Additional Information
This issue will not occur if the display is not sleeping when the account is logged out. Use the steps below to confirm that the account is not configured to log out automatically while the display is sleeping:
Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General.  Click the padlock to unlock the preference pane and enter your admin password. Click the Advanced button at the bottom, then see if the option "Log out after N minutes of inactivity" (where N is the number of minutes) is enabled.
Open System Preferences > Energy Saver and configure Display Sleep to occur after the account is logged out, by dragging the slider to a number of minutes that is greater than N was set to in the previous step.
Important: If automatic log out is not needed, disable "Log out after Nminutes of inactivity" in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General. This will also prevent the issue.
