Display blob field image in Oracle Express

Hi,
I upgraded the apex in my Oracle express edition to 3.2 and tried to display image in blob field following the step in the Apex tutorial,
but the error '*The requested operation is not allowed* ' prompt.
I save the image file in a table with fields mime1,picture1=> blob field.
I created a problem as follow:
CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE download_my_file(p_hotel_id in number) AS
v_mime VARCHAR2(48);
v_length NUMBER;
v_file_name VARCHAR2(2000);
Lob_loc BLOB;
BEGIN
--execute immediate
--'SELECT MIME_TYPE'||to_char(p_picture)||', picture'||to_char(p_picture)||', '||to_char(p_picture)||',DBMS_LOB.GETLENGTH(blob_content) '||
--'INTO v_mime,lob_loc,v_file_name,v_length FROM hotels_pic '||
--'WHERE hotel_id = '||to_char(p_hotel_id);
select mime_type1,picture1,'test/picture1',DBMS_LOB.GETLENGTH(picture1)
INTO v_mime,lob_loc,v_file_name,v_length
from hotels_pic where hotel_id=1;
-- set up HTTP header
-- use an NVL around the mime type and
-- if it is a null set it to application/octect
-- application/octect may launch a download window from windows
owa_util.mime_header( nvl(v_mime,'application/octet'),FALSE );
-- set the size so the browser knows how much to download
htp.p('Content-length: ' || v_length);
-- the filename will be used by the browser if the users does a save as
htp.p('Content-Disposition: attachment;
filename="'||replace(replace(substr(v_file_name,instr(v_file_name,'/')+1),chr(10),null),chr(13),null)|| '"');
-- close the headers
owa_util.http_header_close;
-- download the BLOB
wpg_docload.download_file( Lob_loc );
end download_my_file;
GRANT EXECUTE ON download_my_file TO apex_PUBLIC_user;
GRANT EXECUTE ON download_my_file TO public;
I tried display the image by using <img src="#OWNER#.download_my_file?p_hotel_id=1" height=60 width=40 /img>
But the image don't display...
if I type http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex/HOTEL.download_my_file?p_hotel_id=1 to display the picture , the error " Forbidden,The requested operation is not allowed" prompt.
Am I miss out anything? Anyone can help?
Thanks
Vincent

Hi,
I use a slightly difference code to display images: [http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=267:11]
It is possible that your GRANT command needs to be for PUBLIC instead of public - some things are case-sensitive.
Also, have you checked in SQL Workshop, Object Browser, Procedures to see if your procedure is valid?

• How to insert/display a Blob field(PDF) from Oracle 11g into CR XI version 11.5.12.1838

Hello
I am using CR version 11.5.12.1838 and I would like to display/insert a BLOB field into a CR report and this BLOB field has a .PDF file in it. Is there anyway this can be done?
Your help would be appreciated
Thank you
alpha

Hi Alpha
Not as far as CR is concerned. Note that even adding a PDF as an OLE object to cr will result in only the 1st page being rendered.
From what I gather in the discussion here, I don't believe CR is the utility that can be used in this case.

• Display BLOB/CLOB image data in OBIEE 11g

Dear Gurus,
I want to display employee profile picture in dashboard, the image data was saved as blob/clob image.
How to configure and display it in obiee?
Regards
JOE

Hi
Thanks for your quick response.
actually im not using EBS, im just using publisher with OBIEE 11g.
if explain step by step what you wrote first replay-
Let i have a table with one BLOB column.
1) first load blob data to my table
2) create data model from oracle publisher.
3) change the xdm file with above tagline , my xdm file is in below link-
C:\mw_bi_home\instances\instance1\bifoundation\OracleBIPresentationServicesComponent\coreapplication_obips1\catalog\SampleAppLite\root\shared\zia%2exdm
i don't know is that right step? because if i re-open the xdm file after change by your given tagline its shows error.
I will grateful to you please give me a little explanation which file i can put the following tagline.
_<fo:instream-foreign-object content-type="image/jpg"><xsl:value-of select=".//IMAGE_ELEMENT"/></fo:instream-foreign-object>_
Thanks again and waiting your feedback -

• Displaying BLOB jpg images

I have saved gifs and large jpgs into database BLOB columns in a table, using JDeveloper's interMedia imageControl.
The smaller gifs display peachy in an Image column using reports 6i in the live previewer. The larger jpgs all come back with a REP-1818 Unable to read data in image format.
The column elasticity is fixed/fixed.
a) Does Reports 6i handle 1MB+ jpgs?
b) If elasticity is fixed/fixed... does it crop? Or shrink? Or what?
c) Is there something that I am doing wrong that I can change?
TIA

Alayan - If you're using XE, that shoud be the first thing you tell us. There is a separate forum for that product.
But as long as you're here, a couple points: you reference the "display" procedure in the img tag without qualifying it with an owner. How is the Embeded PL/SQL Gateway supposed to know what "display" is (unless you created a public synonym)? Next, in XE you need to explicitly enable access to procedures that are invoked this way. See the XE forum for discussion about that technique and read the doc here: http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25329_01/doc/appdev.102/b25309/adm_wrkspc.htm#BEJCGJFJ.

• Error while trying to store PDF in Oracle's BLOB field

Hi folks!
I'm having problems while trying to store PDF file in a BLOB field of an Oracle table

Assuming conn = conection to Oracle 10g Database ( it's working )
String miProcedimientoAlmacenado = "{ call package_name.update_client(?,?, ?) }";
CallableStatement miComando = conn.prepareCall(miProcedimientoAlmacenado);
miComando.setString(1,miClienteID ); //first parameter : IN
//second parameter : IN
File miPDF = new File(pathPDF + "//" + miClienteID + ".pdf");
byte[] bodyIn = readFully(miPDF); //readFully procedure is shown below
miComando.setBytes(2, bodyIn); //THIS IS THE LINE WHERE THE ERROR IS PRODUCED
//3rd parameter: OUT
miComando.registerOutParameter(3, java.sql.Types.VARCHAR);
miComando.execute();
private static byte[] readFully(File miPDF) throws FileNotFoundException, IOException {
FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream(miPDF);
byte[] tmp = new byte[1024];
byte[] data = null;
int sz, len = 0;
while ((sz = fis.read(tmp)) != -1) {
if (data == null) {
len = sz;
data = tmp;
} else {
byte[] narr;
int nlen;
nlen = len + sz;
narr = new byte[nlen];
System.arraycopy(data, 0, narr, 0, len);
System.arraycopy(tmp, 0, narr, len, sz);
data = narr;
len = nlen;
if (len != data.length) {
byte[] narr = new byte[len];
System.arraycopy(data, 0, narr, 0, len);
data = narr;
return data;
}//fin readFully
This approach indicates that the PDF file is converted into an array of bytes, then is stored as binary in the BLOB field.
Thanx in advance, and looking forward for your comments.

You will probably need to use the setBinaryStream() method instead of setBytes().

• ASP & Clob fields in the Oracle Database 8i

Hi All,
This is the first time I am posting a question. We are having a problem interfacing ASP pages with Clob fields int he Oracle Database.
We are trying to display clob fields in an oracle database from ASP PAge. The ASP Page does a select to a clob field from a table. But we lose the formatting od the data inside the clob field when we display it out using ASP. We display it as a
single stream of data. But when we display the clob using SQLPLUS we do see the formatted data.
How can we solve this issue or circumvent it ?
We are not looking to parse through the clob field in ASP, rather we already have a stored procedure that parses the data for us. The parsed data is then stored in a clob field already formatted the way we need it. The problem occurs when the ASP
page reads the clob field. The ASP page reads it as one continuos string instead of the formatted data that exists in the clob field.
I imported the data from Oracle to Access in order to view the raw data. The data is shown formatted properly in Access, so we know our stored procedure is doing what it supposed to do. As far as getting the data to display. The only way to retrieve (as far as I know) a clob field using ASP is by a built in function called GetChunk(). Is there a better method of displaying the formatted data aside from parsing on the client side, using ASP?
Let me know if anyone has a solution to this problem.
Thanks for your help and time. Sanjiv.

response.getOutputStream().flush();
// close your result set, statement
data.close();

Don't use jsp for that, use servlet. because the jsp engine will send a blank lines to outPutStream corresponding to <%@ ...> tags and other contents included in your /html/base.jsp file before sending the image. The result will not be treated as a valid image by the browser.
To test this, type directly showcontent.jsp on your browser, and view it source.

• Display image from BLOB field (png image)

Hello,
On my database i have a function which return BLOB (png image from a webservice)..
Is there some tutorial or sample code how to display a image froma blob field in oracle reports?
thank you

You can create a view and base your report on that view. The view would be something like:
create or replace view my_view as
select my_blob_function() image
from ...In your Report it would just be:
select image
from my_viewNow, I'm not sure if Reports supports png format, though.
There are many examples to be found, e.g.

• Image Blob field can't display in designer viewer & web app

It's very strange that my Image blob field is showing correctly in designer, but it's displaying nothing in Preview tab.
After I deployed in to the web application in jboss, there is one error msg output to server console:
ERROR [BlobFieldPictureCache] com.crystaldecisions.reports.dataengine.be: 某些参数缺少值
The later part is in chinese, its meaning is some parameters are missing value.
It's very strange.
Anyone can help?

I have fixed the blob image field display issue.
It's because I have two sql query command in the report although I have joined them together.
After I have merged them into one, the image can be displayed now.
However, the error msg still exists. Looks like not related to the image blob field.

• How to display BLOB images from the Oracle database within Crystal

Let's say a have the following table
IMAGES
========
DOC_ID NUMBER
DOC_NAME STRING
DOC_IMAGE BLOB
The BLOB field can have any type of document: PDF, email, WORD, EXcel, etc. I would like to present the DOC_ID and DOC_NAME and let the user click any of them. Once the user clicks the document stored in the database as BLOB, it is rendered using the default application associated to the extension. For example if the file name is ABC.XLS open MSExcel if the file is abc.pdf open Acrobat.
I am using Crystal2008 and evaluating Crystal 4.0
Does this requires programming?
Thanks!!!

Hi
Crystal is a reporting tool and you canu2019t execute any code except free hand SQL. When you pull any BLOB fields in crystal, it takes as a picture field and if that field contains image only it will display in your report.
If you have any information other than image, it will not display any info in the report.
If you want to insert Word , PDF and Excel then you will have to insert as ole object and can manage with location of the files.
Thanks,
Sastry

• How to display image in blob field in ResultSet in SiteStudio?

I am running Site Studio 10gR4. For a custom page, I created a component that basically runs a query. The structure of the underlying data is a combination of Varchar2, Date and a single BLOB field. The blob field either contains a simple jpeg image, or nothing.

Field 1 is a blob and fields 5 and 6 are dates.
So really two questions:
1. How do I display field1 as an image?
Example:
doesn't do it. Is there a different function then getValue() that I should be using to get the blob contents?
2. I want to compare the date fields to todays date, and either change the color or conditionally display the fields. I could do this with basic taglibs from jsp. How do I do this with IDocScript?
Example:

Thanks, Ken

I actually don't know the answer to #1. If I were to guess, there's nothing out-of-the-box to handle blobs, so your best option is to write your own idoc function. Take a look at the How To component if you don't know how.
For #2, you almost have it right. Insert bold:
<!--$if parseDate(formatDate(getValue("SQLRoutes",rsFieldByIndex("SQLRoutes", 6)))) gt dateCurrent()-->
<span class="red"></span>
