Display long Text in PDF (How to match width of text in TextEdit & Form)

Hello Experts,
I have created a PDF where I have to populate a field with Long Text (from a Text Edit UI Element of my Web Dynpro Component). The issue is that when I retrieve the text (using READ_TEXT...) and display it, it occupies just the half of screen width.
I increased the number of columns of the Text Edit with `Hard Wrap`/`Soft Wrap`, but it had no effect. I also tried setting the width of the Text Edit but it had no effect too.
Could you kindly suggest any way of achieving this?
Thanks and best regards,
Abir

Hi Abir
When you use FM READ_TEXT to get the Longtext, you have to somehow serialize the textlines into a single longtext (string). You do it like this?
LOOP AT tline into ls_tline.
  CONCATENATE l_string ls_tline-tline INTO l_string.
ENDLOOP:
I think these line breaks are caused by CRLF (end-of-line) characters inside your longtext. You can find and replace them with the constant CL_ABAP_CHAR_UTILITIES=>CR_LF.

  • Text crawl speed: how to match the speeds of many crawls?

I have 20 bits of text of different lengths (from 20 to 60 words) and I need to make a crawl of each. I want all of the text crawls to move at the same speed right to left, but it appears that I have to lengthen and shorten clips by trial and error to match the speeds. Is this right? Is there an easier way to regulate the speed?
I'm using Final Cut HD 4.5. I have the BorisFX plug-in.
    Thanks.

Just do some simple mathematics instead of manually adjusting the actual clip's length on the timeline.
    An example.
Control click on the text clip with 20 words and check duration. Lets assume it is 8 seconds. Then control click a clip with about 40 words <click>change duration to 12 seconds.
It should give you the same or very similar speed.
Rely on numbers rather than guessing clips lengths.

PS. Just reading now Zak's post, didn't remember Andy's plugin(Sorry Andy) but let us know if that solves your problem.

  • Text on path: How can I calculate the text length?

    Hi
I have a text on path (spline item). Now I need the length of this text and the length of the spline item.
I try to calculate the text length using IWaxLine::GetWidth(), but this is always 0.
    - How can I calculate the length of this text?
    - How can I calculate the length of the spline item?
    Thanks
    Hans

It would be interesting if you could describe the purpose of your "length", but I don't have an answer anyway. Would the bounding box be sufficient?
Considering that TOP may be combined with arbitrary spline paths, this could become an exercise in higher math. I haven't yet encountered a function that returns the mathematical length of such a spline.
Otherwise it could be solved if you iterate and sum up the relevant points of the bounding box (ascender, descender, baseline?) of individual glyphs.
Be warned that the whole TOP looks alien, as if it were a transplant from a different program. Experience also shows that documented and actually used interfaces / commands are completely different animals ...

    Kaki,
Delcare a table and getting the LONG TEXT is not the right way of doing this.
You create a TEXT object and change the TYPE to INCLUDE TEXT. Once that is done all you have to do specify the parameters of your long text - TEXT ID, TEXT OBJECT and TEXT NAME. These are the same parameters that you use for READ_TEXT funciton. You don't have to fetch the text manually, it happens automatically.
Make sure this is a part of the main window as this might run into multiple pages.

    ""This is an example label

    to break the line????.........""
    Thanks

    so basically do this
    JLabel myLabel = new JLabel();
String theText = "<html>This is an example label<br>
                                  that displays long text, how<br>
                                  to break the line????.........</html>";
myLabel.setText(theText);Obivously, u dont have to use a separate string, u could just call setText or pass it into the JLabel constructor, i just separated it to make it easier to see what your supposed to do.

    Hi,
Create a hotspot for the long text column of ALV.
When user clicks on the hotspot, handle the event to display long text screen.
You may refer sample program of hotspot ALV :
    Goto SE38

  • How to display long text in a paragraph format using class CL_GUI_TEXTEDIT?

I need to display a long paragraph in the text editor. I realize I have to declare a very long table line for my text table. For example, I wrote a subroutine set_paragraph_text.
    FORM set_paragraph_text USING p_paragraph.
      DATA:  l_line(1000) TYPE c,
                 lt_paragraph LIKE TABLE OF l_line.
      APPEND p_paragraph TO lt_paragraph.
Display the paragraph in the text editor.
      CALL METHOD g_textedit->set_text_as_r3table
        EXPORTING
          table = lt_paragraph.
    ENDFORM.                    " set_paragraph_text
This approach works well in release 6.4. Will it also work for earlier versions with more stringent char length limit? If not, can anybody suggest a better solution for the problem? The bottom line is that the paragraph needs to be displayed in its natural format, not one sentence per line. Another restriction is that the paragraph text is pre-fixed so it is hard coded into the program as a string literal.
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Could this help you?

    hope u r expecting this..
    optimize = 'X'
if u use OUTPUTLEN it is fixed size for that specific field, and also it reflects for next fields, to avoid that again have to mention OUTPUTLEN = 'X' for next field.
With OPTIMIZE = 'X'  it will adjust based on the size.

  • How to display long text of info in webdynpro view

    Hi all
I want to retrive a text of 500 characters in TextEdit UI element from R3,but the attribute through which we have bind this UI element is mapped to model attribute which is coming in the form of table i.e. first row of that table contains first 132 characters and the second row contains next 132 characters. Now the problem is how to retrieve the whole text and display in that UI element.
Same is the problem for submitting this 500 text.

    Hi,
You can use String concatenation for this:
    String textToShow = <get first 132 characters from the model node>;
textToShow += <get next 132 characters from the model node>
//set textToShow to the context attribute bound to the TextEdit UI element.
    Regards,
    Satyajit.

  • How can I correct "hidden" text in a searchable PDF file?

This seems like a simple question. However, the answers are invariably complex, do not yield the desired result, and often answer a different question entirely. I say all that just to warn people up front that the "problem" is easier than how many people and PDF application developers, including Adobe, typically understand it while the proposed "solutions" are invariably a total...well, botch is a reasonable word if a bit understated.
    Here is the actual problem:
I have "searchable" PDF files created by scanning documents and running them through an OCR process. I create "searchable" PDF files in order to archive, index, and eventually enable searching for the documents scanned. A "searchable" PDF satisfies those criteria better than any other commonly used, "portable" archive format -- though I would be happy if someone could point out an obvious alternative I may have overlooked. I do not need perfect OCR results. If I need a document to edit or perhaps feed into a spreadsheet or database, I expect to be able to reprocess the page images in a given "searchable" PDF file to OCR and convert the contents to Word, RTF, Excel, or another file format as necessary with more care for the results than for the archived document itself. Therefore, the "searchable" PDF document is the scanned page images which compose it while the OCR generated "searchable" text is secondary, but still important. Therefore, each file must contain scanned page images of sufficient detail to be efficiently converted by OCR if possible and legible enough for whoever views the images to be able to work out what an OCR process may fail to understand. Once scanned, those pages are the "document" and therefore "immutable." However, OCR is imperfect. For a searchable document archive, it does not have to be, but some errors are significant in that they may prevent the document from being found by a search. Therefore, there must be a way to view and, if necessary, edit the "hidden" text in a "searchable" PDF without altering the visual display of a document or how it is printed. No strike-throughs. No visible "corrections." None of the stuff PDF editors want to insert into a PDF file when editing it. I do not want to edit the document without exporting it to a format appropriate for an editable document. I just want adequately "correct" hidden text in a "searchable" PDF file.
I apologize for the length and redundancy in my description of the problem. However, past attempts to explain my problem and objectives as well as what I have seen in reply to similar queries across the Internet indicate that most people trying to answer this question come at it from the same point of view shared by most, if not all, PDF tool or application vendors. They seem to think that any desire to edit a PDF file is a desire to have a PDF word processor of some sort. Or, they assume that the OCR process employed may need tweaking of the means by which people apply it and then a process like "find suspects" is adequate to deal with any errors. But no, those are not what I am trying to accomplish and answers which address those topics do not answer this question.
In short, which tool or application from any vendor will reveal the "searchable" hidden text in a PDF produced by any OCR or other process and then enable corrections to the hidden text without changing any document display parameters at all? Note, hidden text typically includes bounding box information denoting the portion of the image from which the text was recognized. That information must not be lost or changed when editing the "searchable" text.
So, any tools or applications capable of doing this? If Adobe Acrobat XI Pro can (use of a trial copy demonstrated that the hidden text content can be reviewed, but editing did not work by any straight-forward means I could work out while trying out the application), fine. However, $500.00 list or even a $200.00 possible upgrade from a copy of Adobe Acrobat X Standard which came with my scanner is a lot of money for personal use when review and edit of the OCR generated hidden text in a "searchable" PDF file is the only function I require. Therefore, other suggested tools or applications which do what I need for less would be greatly appreciated.

My "claim"? Actually I've made no "claim" such as you've mentioned.
Simply stated your OP has foundational premises that presume as factual what is not.
Here, we're in Adobe's hosted user forum for Acrobat.
Any other application use is not material.
Acrobat XI provides 3 OCR methods.
Searchable Image, Searchable Image (Exact) & ClearScan.
Only the first two provide the "hidden" text output.
(Glyphs have no stroke, no fill)
From back to the Acrobat 3 product family the design functionality of Searchable Image and Searchable Image (Exact) has been to facilitate the use of Find / Search.
The "hidden" text is can be touched up. Acrobat Pro provides the facility to view the hidden text.
So you can see what the OCR output that correlates to the bit-map images of the characters that are present.
With Acrobat XI Pro use Tools - Protection -Remove Hidden Information
In the Remove Hidden Information pane select "Hidden text" then "Show preview".
The default for the preview is "Show Only Hidden Text".
    Back in the PDF --
You'd select some of the hidden text and retype what you suspect is the correct string of characters.
Save and return to the preview of the hidden text.
If you got it right, good. Continue.
If not, darn - try again.
Plug 'n chug -- somewhere over the rainbow it'll be done eh.
Full disclosure -- this is something I've done (enquiring minds don't you know).
I've found it to be a rather Sisypean undertaking.
    So, "doable" but not practicable.
This is to be expected because such touchups are not the concern / focus of the output from Searchable Image or Searchable Image (Exact) - (the names tell it all).
To have touchup "editablity" of an OCR output using Acrobat make use of ClearScan.
ClearScan replaces recognized character bit-maps with a character from an Acrobat internal font.
The character strings can be selected to change to a generic, system available font.
Something that is good to know when embarking on the "tweak the PDF" journey is that PDF (the file format / technology as defined by its ISO Standard, ISO 32000-1) does not tolerate "editing". PDF is decidely not a word processor file format and "editing" can quickly render a PDF unusable.
Minor touchups can be made and your best "tool" for this is still Acrobat Pro. (Save As often and periodically "bank" the PDF via some file rename scheme.)
    Be well...

  • How to deal with tiny text size on the display, especially in email?

I got a Macbook a week ago. I have been using a Windows laptop for about 5 years. Before that I had a couple of Mac desktops.
All in all I am very happy with the Macbook. I haven't had any of the problems which have come up in these forums, unexpected shutdown, bad DVD drives, etc. One thing I love about mine which I had not seen mentioned before I got it is that the Macbook (or mine anyway) is absolutely whisper quiet. I cannot hear the hard drive doing anything. My Dell laptop sounds like a construction site in comparison.
The main issue that is vexing me has to do with the high-res, small-size display. The combination of those two factors means that the text size onscreen is often so small that even with reading glasses I have serious eyestrain.
Back on my Dell this was a lot easier to deal with. In Internet Explorer and Outlook Express, there are very simple settings in the menus to make text sizes better. And this is really important -- those text sizes are remembered after you close and restart the program.
So far as I can tell, that is not true (in general) on the Mac. I find this shocking, since Apple makes such a big deal about the simplicity and usability of the Mac.
Specifically, in Safari I went into preferences and reset the fonts. A little more complicated than in Internet Explorer but it basically works alright.
With Apple Mail, though, it is really troublesome. There is no remember-able setting to increase the text size for viewing (that I can find). And the on-screen size of 12 point text in an incoming email in Apple Mail is just absurdly small. It makes me wonder if Apple is taking bribes from the American Opthalmology Association. This is going to ruin my eyesite pronto.
Of course I can hit Command-+ several times when viewing each email to increase the text size to a readable size. But what a pain.
Is there a way to make those settings rememberable?
Otherwise I like Apple Mail. But I really prefer not to have to hit 6 keystrokes when looking at each email just to get it to a reasonable size.
I looked at the help files for Mozilla Thunderbird. They seem to indicate that program works the same way.
How about Eudora? Any others? Any suggestions much appreciated.
    thanks

Hi Jeff, thanks for your careful attention and your comment.
But I have to point out you've missed what I'm talking about.
In OE, in the View menu (right on the menu bar, not under Tools>Options) there is a setting called "Text Size" which allows you to set the text size for viewing and composing (independent of sending). That makes it very easy to make the text easier to read on small screens. It does not "change the appearance of the formatted text so that it no longer corresponds to the intent of the sender". It merely makes the text bigger or smaller, like a magnifying glass.
Via email I had some back and forth today with another poster here discussing this. You might be interested to see the email he sent me in which he included both Helvetica 12 and Helvetica 14. I took a screenshot of the email he sent me (from Apple Mail). When I read this email in Apple Mail with the "Message Font" set to Arial 18 (which is the size I need it set at for readability), Helvetica 14 is displayed at a smaller size than Helvetica 12.

    That's weird.
Here's a test I did, and this is what really matters to me.
I sent two emails from Windows/Outlook Express. For one I set the default composing font to Arial 12. For the other I set the default composing font to Arial 18.
When I downloaded and read these emails in Apple Mail, sure enough, the Arial 18 font appears much bigger than the font in the Arial 12 mail.
Then I did the reverse. I set the "Message Font" in Apple Mail prefs to Arial 12. Sent an email.
Then I changed the "Message Font" to Arial 18 in prefs and sent another email.
Then I downloaded both these emails into Outlook Express.
On OE, font size is displayed exactly the same in both emails.
So that's good -- I know that Apple Mail, whatever the setting in "Message Font", is sending some sort of "standard" font size. (By the way, I have Apple Mail set to send Rich Text Format mail). My correspondent tells me that Apple Mail doesn't send "true" HTML mail, and Outlook Express does, so perhaps that explains this.
Okay, no big deal. But if I were a graphic designer and I wanted to know for sure that my carefully crafted email styles were getting through, I might be going bonkers because of this.
But I'm not a graphic designer, and for the moment my concerns are assuaged.
And I accept the wisdom of your advice to "go native". I'm trying, I'm trying...
