Displaying long numbers in crystal

How can I display a number in Crystal that is 18 digits long without having it automatically get converted to scientific notation?

There's two factors at play here.
One is that, internally, the Crystal Reports engine uses double-precision floating point to represent Number type.  This is what you observe as the behavior similar to Excel, that does the same thing.  This is a value-issue, that's worked around by changing the returned type to string rather than number on the DB-side.
The other is that the Crystal Reports engine has restricted means for displaying the numeric values - the "Format" specified for a visible field that contains a Number value.  This is a user-visible-formatting-issue.
You're not concerned with the former, but you're encountering the latter.
Crystal Number formatting is based on decimal/rounding/separator setting found in the Format Editor.  It just so happens that if you have a value that has magnitude larger than that expressible in the fixed format, the engine automatically converts to scientific notation (if smaller in magnitude, it rounds to zero).
There's no way around that, other than using formulas to break apart the numeric value into it's billlion/million/thousands/etc parts and converting to string yourself.
Sincerely,
Ted Ueda

  • Problem with displaying long numbers in flex.

I'm trying to display a usps tracking number in a textbox. However it automatically converts to an exponential value. Any way to bypass this?
I'm getting the value from the xml file.
this 9121805213907020609207 show up as 9.12180521390702e+21

    Hi,
When you are Trying to display that no in TextBox directyly pass that number to TextBox as String itself  , If you are not using that value any where in Flex side this is the best Idea But if you want to use that number it will be a problem why because a long value can take a max value of 2^63-1 but your value is more than that.

  • Crystal Report for Enterprise not displaying Long Text from BEx

    Hello,
I am creating a report using SAP Crystal Report for Enterprise 4.0 (Version 14.0.2) and the source of data is BEx query via OLAP connection created using IDT. I am using SAP BusinessObjects BI platform 4.0.
The Characteristic (which is hierarchy) in the Rows section of the BEx Query is set to display long text and as such, it displays long text when the query is executed in the BEx Analyzer. However, when it comes to Crystal Report, the short text is displayed in the report. Can I display long text in the Crystal Report? How?
    Thanks,
    KP

    Venkat,
Thanks for your response. Please note, however, the transaction RAD1 does not exist. Let me provide more details about the current settings of the InfoObject.
The Characteristic is 'Item' (0CS_ITEM) and upon going to RSA1 >  Modeling > InfoObjects > Item (0CS_ITEM) > Right Click > Display > Business Explorer (tab) > Text Type is set to 'Long Text' and BEx description is set to 'Long description' already.
When I run/execute the query with this Item characteristic, the results in BEx Analyzer is showing appropriate long text, however, Crystal Report for Enterprise shows short text only

    Thanks,

    Hi Jothi,
Short Text and Long Text are associated objects of a Characteristic from a BEx query.
The 'Short Text' will not turn to 'Long Text' by setting the 'Can Grow' option.
In Fact, both are completely different objects.

  • Displaying negative numbers under certain conditions

I have a Crystal Report which I am developing and need to display positive numbers as negative, but only under certain conditions.  I did not see anything on this type of questions so I decided to join and post it up myself.  This is a transfer report so if the location number entered in the parameter list is the SHIPPING location, I need to display retail, cost, and totals as negative.  Here is the formula which I came up with for ext cost, but it is returning all zeros.  I cannot seperate the to and from locations in the parameters because this report needs to display both in and out of that location.
    if totext({?loc}) = totext({Command.SHIP_FROM}) then ({Command.EXT_COST}*-1)
    Any suggestions?  Appreciate the help!

    Hi Jon,
If it returns zeroes, then it means that this part of the code fails:
    totext({?loc}) = totext({Command.SHIP_FROM})
Do you have records where the value entered in the 'loc' prompt matches with records in the SHIP_FROM column on the report?
    See if this helps:
    if totext({?loc},0,"") = totext({Command.SHIP_FROM},0,"") then ({Command.EXT_COST}*-1)

  • Display Long field Description in 2 lines in Header when using REUSE_ALV_HI

    Hi,
      I am using REUSE_ALV_HIERSEQ_LIST_DISPLAY .
I need to have 2 lines in the header to display  long field descriptions like
Ex   Shipment Notification Idoc or Billing Document Cancel  should appear as
    Shipment Notification       Billing Document
    Idoc                                        Cancel
Is there a way of doing this when calling the above ALV function?
    Thanks
    Prashant

    Hi Prashanta ,
We can give headers in ALV using short/medium/long text.
And this comes in one line. You can use short/medium text, if possible.
Hence , having 2 lines in the header to display long field descriptions is not possible.
    Hope this helps you.

  • How to display long text in smartforms

    Hi experts,
Iam trying to display long text into smartforms.I got the long text into ITAB frm database
in the abap program. In the form interface how to define the variable? In the long text i have 6 lines.
    points guaranteed
    cheers
    kaki

    Kaki,
Delcare a table and getting the LONG TEXT is not the right way of doing this.
You create a TEXT object and change the TYPE to INCLUDE TEXT. Once that is done all you have to do specify the parameters of your long text - TEXT ID, TEXT OBJECT and TEXT NAME. These are the same parameters that you use for READ_TEXT funciton. You don't have to fetch the text manually, it happens automatically.
Make sure this is a part of the main window as this might run into multiple pages.
    Regards,
    Ravi

how to display it like below with one label?
    ""This is an example label
    that displays long text, how
    to break the line????.........""
    Thanks

    so basically do this
    JLabel myLabel = new JLabel();
String theText = "<html>This is an example label<br>
                                  that displays long text, how<br>
                                  to break the line????.........</html>";
myLabel.setText(theText);Obivously, u dont have to use a separate string, u could just call setText or pass it into the JLabel constructor, i just separated it to make it easier to see what your supposed to do.

  • How to display Long text in alv output

    Hi,
I have developed an ALV report. It is displaying the output.
There is another requirment for alv output text field as below
From the long text fields show only the first 20 characters and afterwards the long text icon. If the icon is clicked open the long text display screen.
Please give your suggestion how to work on this requirement.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
Create a hotspot for the long text column of ALV.
When user clicks on the hotspot, handle the event to display long text screen.
You may refer sample program of hotspot ALV :
    Goto SE38
    Type BCALV*
    Click F4
search for HOTSPOT or EVENTS & you will get a sample program.
    Best regards,

  • How to display long text in alv

    Hi ,
I need to display the long text of particular object on ALV, with 30 char each line .
I have long text in one internal table, master table have one to maany relation with longtext table and long text contains 120 character in each line.
i need to display long text using 30 char in each line on alv. could you please suggest the soution ????
    format is like
    ponumber date         longtext
1234    03/04/05   this is PO is created
                                  for materail which have
                                  shortage in plant.

    hope u r expecting this..
    optimize = 'X'
if u use OUTPUTLEN it is fixed size for that specific field, and also it reflects for next fields, to avoid that again have to mention OUTPUTLEN = 'X' for next field.
With OPTIMIZE = 'X'  it will adjust based on the size.

  • Help with display of numbers

First of all I have to say the tutorials on this site are extremely helpful. My instructor wants all our java code written as Object Oriented and when I did a search on here for Object Oriented it totally helped out. Now I just need help with the display of numbers, my code works perfectly fine except that the number has wayyyyyyyyyyy to many decimal points after it. I only wanted two.
