Distance between database servers

Is there any distance limitation between Database servers when using DataGuard? Latency between my primary and backup DB is 80 msec on a pricate network.

  • How to Restrict Oracle VIP address Movement between DB servers?

I installed the Oracle 11.2 RAC on 4 server setup. Its a 4 server Grid SETUP and out of 4 servers only servers are runnning the Database Instances.
The did this installation to use ACFS feature.
Now i need to map the Public IP with Oracle Database ip address. so from Internet limited user can connect through oracle tns and listener entry.
If i am mapping with database static ip, then will face service outage in case of that Oracle Instance server down.
If i am mapping with Oracle Virtual IP address, then this Virtual IP is shifting anyone of the three server. So sometimes it can shift to Grid server where Database is not running.
How Can I restrict the Database Virtual IP movement between Database servers only ?

So you have a 4 node RAC, but with only 3 nodes running the database ?
I am confused about why the 4th node is part of the RAC then ?
Please post more info about how things are configured

As i suggest above, please use the REMAP_SCHEMA parameter, so that you can create those objects which are getting created in the Apps Schema in the XBSI schema, I have already provided the syntax above.
ORA-31684: Object type VIEW:"XBSI"."XBSI_ORDER_LINE_INFO_V" already exists

  • How to Integrate real time data between 2 database servers

How to Integrate real time data between 2 database servers
    May 31, 2006 2:45 AM
I have a scenario where the data base (DB2 400) is maintained by AS 400 application and my new website application based on j2ee platform access the same database also but the performance is very low. So we have thought of introducing new oracle data base which will be accessed by j2ee application and all the data from db 400 database will be replicate to oracle data base. In that scenario the only problem is of real time data exchange between 2 databases. How do we achieve that considering both the application As400 and j2ee website application are running in parallel and accessing the same information lying on DB2 400 database. We have to look at transaction management also.
    Thanks

You certainly wouldn't use XML for this.
The process you're looking for is called "replication". Ask your database experts about it.
I predict that after you spend all the money to install Oracle and hire consultants to make it replicate the DB2/400 database, your performance problem will be worse.

Yeajh I now that its not a XML solution.
Replication is one of the option but AS400 application which uses DB2/400 DB is highly loaded and proposed website also uses the same database for retrieval and updation purpose. All the inventory is maintained in the DB2/400 database so I have thought of introducing new oracle database which will be accessed by new website and it will have all the relevant tables structure along with data from DB2/400 application. Now whenever there is a order placement from new website then first it should update the oracle database and then this data shuold also migrate to db2/400 application at real time so that the main inventory which is lying on db2/400 should be updated on real time basis because order placement is aslo possible from As400 application. So the user from As400 application should not get the wrong data.
Is it possible to use MQ products??

    Hi,
the answer to your question is not easy. Synchronization or integration or replication data between 2 (or more) database servers is very complicated task, even though it doesn't look like.
Firstly I would recommend to create good analysis regarding data flow.
    Important things are:
    1) what is primary side for data creation. In other words on which side - DB2 or Oracle - are primary data (they are created here) and on which side are secondary data (just copies)
    2) on which side are data changed - only in DB2 side or only on Oracle side or on both sides
    3) Are there data which are changed on both side concurrently? If so how should be conflicts solved?
    4) What does it mean "real time"? Is it up to 1 ms or 1s or 1 min or 1 hour?
    5) What should be done when replication will not work? I mean replication crash etc.
BTW. The word "change" above means INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE commands.
Analysis should be done for every column in every table. When analysis is ready you can select the best system for your solution (Oracle replication, Sybase replication server, MQ, EJB or your proprietary solution). Without analysis it will be IMHO gunshot into the dark.

  • Distance between V490 an SE3500 as DAS ?

    hi there,
i've a question concerning the suggestive max distance between sun v490 (2 Gb HBA) and the StorEdge3500 FC-Array.
a customer wants to create physical separation of his servers. so there are two v490 servers cross-connected to two
3500er fc-arrays. he plans to divide them into two rooms but with given access to both storage-systems.
there are no san-switches in use, so they are direct attached to the storage.
the max. theoretical length of a multimode optical fibre cable is round about 500 m - but does anyone know
if this is really possible ? or is the latency to high then ?
all in one i need to know if there can be really problems when the given enviroment (attachted in one rack) is
divided into to rooms without changing any HBAs or implementing some sansw - only by changing the optical
    fibre cables ?
are there any whitepapers concerning this issue and the maximal distance with the 3500er acting as direct-attatched-storage ?

    Hello bmeecg,
Welcome to the NI forums!  If I understand your question correctly, you wish to calculate the instantaneous heart rate from your ECG (the inverse of your R-R interval).  I would recommend using the Peak Detection vi (Functions Palette»Signal Processing»Signal Operation) to determine the location of the R wave (since it is the largest magnitude, you could set a threshold above your P and T waves so that it only picks up the R wave).  The calculation for time is in the detailed help for the Peak Detection vi (Ctrl+H»Hover over the VI»Detailed Help).
I also found this forum which has a VI that reads an ECG and then does a lot of analysis. Maybe this would help you out as well.
And just FYI, the Counter/Timer forum is oriented toward our counter/timer boards (e.g. the PCI-6602),  the Multifunction DAQ forum probably would have more of the type of people that could help with this issue.
However, please post back here if you have more questions about this.

  • Excel formula to calculate the distance between multiple points using lat/lon coordinates

I'm currently drawing up a mock database schema with two tables: Booking and Waypoint.
Booking stores the taxi booking information.
Waypoint stores the pickup and drop off points during the journey, along with the lat lon position. Each sequence is a stop in the journey.
How would I calculate the distance between the different stops in each journey (using the lat/lon data) in Excel?
Is there a way to programmatically define this in Excel, i.e. so that a formula can be placed into the mileagecolumn
    (Booking table),
lookup the matching sequence (via bookingId)
for that journey in the Waypointtable
    and return a result?
    Example 1:
    A journey with 2 stops:
    1 1 1 MK4 4FL, 2, Levens Hall Drive, Westcroft, Milton Keynes 52.002529 -0.797623
    2 1 2 MK2 2RD, 55, Westfield Road, Bletchley, Milton Keynes 51.992571 -0.72753
4.1 miles according to Google, entry made in mileage column
    in Booking table
    where id
    = 1
    Example 2:
    A journey with 3 stops:
    6 3 1 MK7 7DT, 2, Spearmint Close, Walnut Tree, Milton Keynes 52.017486 -0.690113
    7 3 2 MK18 1JL, H S B C, Market Hill, Buckingham 52.000674 -0.987062
    8 3 1 MK17 0FE, 1, Maids Close, Mursley, Milton Keynes 52.040622 -0.759417
27.7 miles according to Google, entry made in mileage column
    in Booking table
    where id
    = 3
I understand that 100% accuracy is not possible, so it will not be an issue.

  • Transfer whole schema between databases

    Hi,
I have a question on how to move an entire schema between two databases which are of the same version and patchset.
I identified the possible methods as follows:
    1) Using exp/imp or expdp/impdp, but that's quite slow on larger schemas and the transported data might not be physically the same as on the source database (indexes are rebuilt, tables get loaded with data again....).
    2) Using transportable tablespaces. This is fast, the physical data layout is the same as on the source database, but unfortunately only the objects in the transported tablespace get transferred. Schema objects like PL/SQL packages, private synonyms, functions.... and grants aren't transferred since they are stored in the SYSTEM tablespace.
Is there any other way to move a schema between databases? Maybe some combination of expdp/impdp (transfer of user object definitions stored in the SYSTEM tablespace like PL/SQL code, view definitions, etc.) and transportable tablespaces (transfer data segments like tables, indexes....)
From what I know RMAN can't do that since the smallest "logical object" it can restore/recover is the whole tablespace with tablespace point in time recovery.
Thanks in advance for any answer.

Otherwise, you can go with Schema Based Replication with Streams or as you said combination of expdp/impdp and transport.

  • Installing one APEX for multiple databases servers.

    Hello, everyone.
I'm new on this world of Oracle solutions, and I would like
    very much your help.
Here in my company I have five database servers, and I want to install
the Oracle Apex in a way that I only need access one webpage and have
the possibility to edit all the database.
    For instance:
Imagine that I have five machines and each one has a instance of one database.
I would instal the Apex on each machine. But I would like to open the Apex on
my browser only once, and have the capability to work with all databases.
It would be like the Apex had a scrollbar and I could choose wich database to work.
Is that possible? If it is, could be done with XML DB server? What is the best HTTP server to use in this case?
    Thanks for your attention.
Sorry if I wasn't clear, I'm new and I'm learning.
    Regards, Leandro R. de Freitas.

    Hi,
as you describe this, it is not possible. An Apex instance is installed in an Oracle instance and is as a result is tied very closely to that instance.
That being said, it is still possible to access data in different database instances from a seperate database by the use of database links, though this is can be a little complicated and not always desirable from a performance point of view. Whether this is desirable in your instance depends on the architecture of your applications.
For example, if your 5 different instances are part of one distributed application, it may be desirable to install Apex in one instance that may be termed the master instance and have it access data from the other instances via database links, which should already exist in a distributed application.
On the other hand, if your applications are quite distinct, then I would see it as desirable to have seperate installations of Apex in each instance. This would enable different release cycles and versioning if required, lead towards better performance and avoid single point of failure. If you need a united front end to these applications then you could maybe create a gateway application on one of the Apex instances, though how you deal with sign on would depend on your architecture eg Single Sign on vs LDAP etc. You could simply create an HTML page somewhere on your intranet that points to these applications and then let each application deal with sign on.
    I hope this helps.

  • Multiple Database Servers Question

    Hi,
Please forgive this ignorant question, but can someone tell
me how one would go about using multiple database servers?
Just as there comes a time where one would need more than
one web server and would need to use a load balancing
solution, what happens when one would need more than one
    Database Server?
How does one go about implementing that solution?
Is there some way to have two database servers carrying the
same information with some kind of load balancing solution
in front of it(?) or does one place some tables on one
    Database
server, and other tables on the other database server?
(I have no clue as to how things would work.)
    Thanks in advance,
    Joe

Microsoft SQL allows for clustering of SQL databases, so for
instance two servers connected to a fileshare and a virtual address
shared across the two physical boxes. Database connections are made
to the virtual addres which will then be handled by the active
node. Becuase a database is ultimately a file(s) on a disk it can
only be attached to one node at a time so you end up with an
    active/inactive cluster.

  • How to configure email Alerts in OEM Cloud 12c for Database Servers up/down

    Hi everybody,
How to configure email Alerts in OEM Cloud 12c for Database Servers up/down status?
    Regards,
    Miguel Vega

    Hi Miguel Vega,
    Information regarding the notifications:
    ==============================
Configuring notification rules in 12c is different from earlier releases.
The concept and function of notification rules has been replaced with a two-tier system consisting of Incident Rules and Incident Rule Sets :
    1. Incident Rules: Operate at the lowest level granularity (on discrete events) and performs the same role as notification rules from earlier releases.
By using incident rules, you can automate the response to incoming incidents and their updates.
A rule contains a set of automated actions to be taken on specific events, incidents or problems.
The actions taken are for example : sending e-mails, creating incidents, updating incidents, and creating tickets.
    2. Incident Rule Set: A rule set is a collection of rules that applies to a common set of objects, for example, targets, jobs, and templates.

  • HP Envy 17t-j100 Distance between USB Slots suggestion

I intended this post as a recommandation for HP.
I have an HP Envy Touchsmart 17t-j100 and everything is excelent up until now.
The only thing that is very annoying is the distance between USB ports. PLEASE increase the distance between USB ports for the future models. I have a lot of problems tryng to connect everything I need.
Even if I try to open the DVD drive, it will stuck in my USB device. I mean how much difficult is to put a distance of 1 cm between them?
If the USB cables are the standard size, there are no problems but most of the USB devices nowadays are much more wider than a standard USB cable and I keep having problems.
I mean it's a 17" laptop, there is plenty of space on the sides. In the end, it's better to drop the DVD drive and put a VGA slot instead, but with bigger distance between USB ports.
I am planning to buy another ENVY in the future but I really want my new laptop to have USB ports with a wider distance bewtween them.
Thank you very much and I hope HP will take care of this little problem on the future models.
    Have a nice day.

  • Cannot get Telnet to work between two servers on same subnet

I need to test if communication is open on port 8444 between two servers.
I installed telnet client on a Server 2008 R2 server and telnet server on a Server 2008 SP2 server.  I also manually started the Telnet service that was set to disabled on the SP2 server.  I disabled the Windows firewall on both servers.  They
are both on the same subnet so they don't need to go through any routers and I can ping successfully.
When I try to telnet to the remote server by typing telnet "ip address" 8444, I get an error that says "Could not open connection to host, on port 8444:  Connection failed.
I tried other ports like port 80 and got the same error.
What else is needed to get this to work?

VMs have nothing to do with it, as long as there's network communication between the servers.
As I said, there must be a service or application listening on that port for it to respond. For example, try this:
    C:\> telnet
When the telnet prompt opens, type in:
    open mail.messaging.microsoft.com 25
If it works, you should see this:
    220 CH1EHSMHS035.bigfish.com Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service ready at Thu, 7 Feb 2013 00:57:33 +0000
That means that Microsoft's mail servers are LISTENING on port 25 and it responded. And note, telnetting to port 25 is a non-default telnet port, because port 23 is the default telnet port. When you type in a space and then a port number, you're telling
the telnet client to use that port.
That is the SAME THING if some sort of application or service is listening on port 8444 on that other server you're trying to telnet to. If there is no app or service listening, it will just time out.
And no, installing the TELNET service on that sercver will NOT answer to any port other than 23. The telnet service by default, uses TCP 23, unless you specify otherwise.
So once again, what service or app on that server is supposed to be listening on 8444?

  • Port forwarding between two servers from Same subnet

     Hi,
We have a Cisco ASA 5520 Version 8.4(3). There exists a site to site VPN tunnel between us and a client and the client sends us the data to our local host/server 10.x.x.20 on port 52944. So 10.x.x.20 gets data on port 52944. We want to forward this data to a test server 10.x.x.21( same subnet IP) on port 52945. so basically I want to forward traffic from 10.x.x.20:52944 to 10.x.x.21:52945.
Is this possible. I am a new bee to the networking and still learning. Excuse me if this sounds silly.
I know we can add one more ACL in the VPN tunnel and add this test server IP in the ACL. but, then I have to ask the clinet to change their ACL too. I dont want to do this. So I want to wrok around it. Any help or suggestions is much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance :)

    ok, essentially
want to calculate distance between to ranges. Say
range 1 is the first three, range 2 the rest. THen
calculate distance between all possible pairs between
these two rangesYes - and no doubt that any number of people here could write it for you. But that's not what the forum is about. So what, exactly, is preventing you from doing it?
