Distribution of the javaHelp extension (jhall.jar) with application.

Hello,
I have been looking into a work around with regard to the fact that jhall.jar is not included in the JRE. As it has to be included in jre/lib/ext, it therefore needs to be shipped with the application.
I have been looking at Java Web Start - I can't really make out exactly what it does - if anyone has deployed the javahelp extension with their app, please would you tell me how to go about it? Is Java Web Start the best way? If so, how does it work in simple steps?
I really need a solution to this - any help would be greatly appreciated......:
Thanks in advance,
Clodagh

Hello Clodagh,
there are several ways of distributing jhall.jar. An alternative of placing it in jre/lib/ext is to put it in the directory where the application is located, that is using jhall.jar.
Although others might do it differently, I am using Web Start to distribute jhall.jar. I you have Web Start installed you cann see a working example at http://www.lightdev.com/template.php4?id=3 (click on the link that says 'Read the tutorial online' or use the following link directly http://www.lightdev.com/shtm_hlp.jnlp)
The help set that is viewed with this link remains on the server. Web Start only instally a tiny reader application in Java (4 KB) and the JavaHelp extension (jhall.jar) in the same directory on the client. It then starts the reader with the help set (on the server) as a parameter.
To set up something similar, you need to create two .jnlp files, one for the reader app and for jhall.jar. The .jnlp file for the reader app refers to the one for jhall.jar. When it is started by Web Start, above mentioned parts are installed and started, i.e. the help set is displayed in the typical viewer of JavaHelp.

  • Distributing standard java extensions (i.e. Javahelp's jhall.jar)

    Hi,
    I wonder if anyone would be able to tell me how to distribute this jhall.jar file with my application (it is neccessary in order for my javahelp system to be viewed) . It needs to be installed in the jre/lib/ext directory in order to be effective.
    This must be a common occurance for developers as any extension must be dealt with like this, however, I am only a beginner in things such as deployment.
    I have been looking into Java Web Start...is this the way to go? If so, I wonder if someone could tell me (simply) how to go about this.
    Is there another way that might be easier to implement? All of the users should be on some form of UNIX, not Windows.
    Any clue and I would be over the moon,
    Thanks in advance,
    Clodagh

    Hi Clodagh,
    to add jhall.jar to the jar containing the application won't work. You could make a jar for your application and zip this jar together with jhall.jar into another zip file, so that the resulting zip file has two files:
    distribution.zip (contains...)
    yourApp.jar
    jhall.jar
    If you let a user download this zip the only requirement (apart from having java installed on the client) would be
    1. to unzip the zip file to an arbitrary directory and
    2. to start yourApp.jar
    With web start all this can be automated so that the user really just has to press a single link and all the rest is done by web start. You are right, the user has to have web start installed but web start is part of the JRE by default and a requirement for your app might be just to have JRE 1.4.1 or later...
    Certainly for web start a user needs a browser and a connection to the internet.
    If you would like to distribute an application without the above you still could use InstallAnywhere from ZeroG and build a setup package having your application and jhall.jar. With InstallAnywhere it is possible to even move jhall.jar to jre/lib/ext on the client upon installation.
    However, it takes much more effort to build such an installer package and it takes more maintenance effort later on too. As well, installer packages make up more cases on the client to take care of (all of which web start already deals with).
    I personally prefer the web start distribution and just require a user to have java installed (and certainly a browser). However, just to provide a zip file or an installer package might do as well.

  • Is collection detection for caldav in the works for the lightning extension? Issue with lightning integration with multiple collections.

    Hello, i currently have a server running davical which serves my users' calendars, currently users which wish to use thunderbird and do not want to use the web interface for calendaring (and wish to use lightning instead) have to add each collection seperately, rather than just provide the base URL of their calendar info.
    So instead on most calendar clients putting this as the calendar address:
    davical_base_url/caldav.php/username/
    and be done with it, they have to go through the new calendar wizard for each calendar/todo collection, and cannot easily create collections from within the lightning user interface, instead have to resort to either the calendar interface or the davical server interface to create/manage collections. They also have to figure out what the names of the collections are under davical, automatically generated collections have a large UID name instead of the example collection names. I.e. they have to add a bunch of URL's like this individually as calendars:
    davical_base_url/caldav.php/username/work/
    davical_base_url/caldav.php/username/personal/
    davical_base_url/caldav.php/username/worktodo/
    davical_base_url/caldav.php/username/personaltodo/
    davical_base_url/caldav.php/username/8302E5D8-3630-419E-BCFC-A6A144D292C8/
    Are there any workarounds for this or is it in the works? other calendaring applications in the ecosystem haven't had an issue, Android is fine, iOS is fine, CalDavZAP is fine.
    Hopefully someone can help,
    Cheers.

    Hi all,
    Just curious if anyone was able to solve this.
    We experienced the same issue in both NW2004 (SP 20) and NW2004s (SP11).
    Through trial and error, I disabled the portal integration flag, and the InputHelpV2 started working perfectly.  Decided to search SDN this morning to see if anyone else had run across this, and this post was right on the same issue.
    When the portal integration flag is enabled, and you perform the F4 dropdown...your browser seems to hang, and no popup window is displayed until you click in the browser window with your mouse.  Once you click in the window, a tiny small InputHelpV2 window pops up, but it isn't functional (i.e. you can't highlight a row, and click on the check mark without getting an IE error (Access is denied)).

  • BPC NW - Distribution of the input schedule based on two applications

    Hi all,
    I have one input schedule which is based on two different applications - one application on its own worksheet. In online mode it works correctly.
    For offline data collection I've created distribution list for this input schedule. And in the fixkey field I set dimension values for all dimensions of both applications, except Entity - it is defined in the varkeys field.
    For the first application, for which distribution list was created, I named dimensions like "DIMENSIONNAME" (e.g. "P_ACCT"), and for the second like "APPLICATION:DIMENSIONNAME" (e.g. "APSHELL:P_ACCT"), as it's written in the manual.
    The problem is that after input schedule distribution all dimensions of the second application on the second worksheet have the same values as it was when I saved input schedule to the server and not as it defined in the distribution list.
    All values of the first application are correct and have the same values as it defined in the distribution list.
    I checked it on BPC NW 7 and on BPC MS 5. It doesn't work in both systems.
    Question. Is it possible to distribute input schedules based on different applications correctly or not.
    If you have a version of BPC, check it please. I can paste distribution list here if it's needed.

    Yes, it's hardcoded by evdre function on default.
    Brian,
    Do you have any experience with such tasks?
    What version of BPC do you have? Iu2019m using BPC7 NW SP3

  • Problem with application-variables - CFLOCK?

    Hi,
    i have a problem with my application. It is a multi-user
    application with 100 parallel-users and CFMX 7.
    The problem wich occures is with application variables. These
    are mainly structs wich get filled onApplicationStart(). The
    problem is, that the variables suddenly disappear, they are empty.
    I have read about CFLock and found out, that it is necesseary
    to use cflock. And i found out, that onApplicationStart does
    correct locking automatically. That is where i do not understand
    the problem. The variables get intialized correctly and in further
    they only get read-access. Why can they be corrupted?
    My other question about that is, wheather i need cflock for
    all Read-Access to Application and Session-Variables, even if there
    happens no writing to the variables?
    Best Regards,
    Andreas

    > ?The element of position 2, of dimension 2, of an array
    object used as part of
    > an expression, cannot be found.?
    > The array is in this case the struct.
    Well, OK, that could be a problem. Arrays are not structs:
    they are two
    different things, are not interchangeable, and have
    completely different
    sets of functions to utilise them. You cannot treat a struct
    as an array.
    If CF is claiming your "struct" is an array, then it actually
    *is* an
    array, not a struct.
    What's the line of code which is generating that error?
    I suppose one could get this error if you have an array of
    structs thus:
    myArray
    .key1
    myArray.key2
    (etc)
    and you're trying to reference it with a numeric key rather
    than by key
    name, eg:
    myArray
    [n]
    When n is an integer value, rather than a string (which
    corresponds to the
    name of the key).
    > > Have you trapped the error, done a <cfdump>
    of the application scope and
    > > checked to see if it's the whole lot going awry, or
    just some values?
    > I have not used cfdump for it, because the server had to
    be immediately
    > restarted for our customers. But i think, that it is
    not completely empty,
    > because the index runs to pos2 of dimenstion2.
    So does this not happen in your dev / testing environment?
    > Will
    > onApplicationStart() be called before? Or only if
    onRequestStart() returns true?
    I would ***-u-me that the application one would be called
    before the
    request one. It's pretty easy for you to test this though, I
    should think?
    (Sorry: for reasons beyond the scope of this conversation,
    we're still
    forced to use Application.cfm in our software, so I've only a
    passing
    knowledge of how Application.cfc works).
    > Here is the code from onRequestStart()
    > <cffunction name="onRequestStart"
    returntype="boolean">
    > <cfargument name="Requestedpage" required="yes" />
    > <cfscript>
    > var lFile = "/cargorent/Login.cfm";
    > var iPosn = ListFindNoCase( lFile,
    Arguments.Requestedpage );
    > if( iPosn gt 0 )
    > return true;
    >
    > if( NOT IsDefined( "session.user.Loginname" ) or
    session.user.Loginname eq
    > "" )
    > {
    > WriteOutput( "<p><p> The current user is no
    longer valid, please log in
    > again.</p></p>" & chr(10) & chr(13)
    > WriteOutput( "<script
    language=""javascript"">parent.location = ""
    http://"
    > & CGI.HTTP_HOST &
    "/Login/Login.cfm"";</script>" );
    > return false;
    > }
    >
    > return true;
    > </cfscript>
    > </cffunction>
    One thing I will say here is that I really think you should
    be separating
    your processing from your display. A function should do
    processing. it
    should pass that processing back to a CFM template which
    should handle
    whatever needs to be displayed on the browser. Although
    that's nowt to do
    with your current issue.

  • How do I import old FCP projects that have mysteriously changed to Linux Executable files?  Is it as simple as renaming the files with the.fcp extension?

    I had some FCP projects on an old G3 tower that I finally want to finish. I was able to grab everything, media, etc. to my macbook pro but all of the Final Cut Pro actual movies/projects have turned into "linux executable files" that FCP X won't import.
    I tried googling this issue but didn't really see any good answers. Would it be as simple as renaming the files with the .fcp extension?  I can't recall if my old version (really old) of FCP saves projects as .mov or .fcp files, but I'm assuming I'm not the only person this has happened to.
    Thanks for your help!

    I had some FCP projects on an old G3 tower that I finally want to finish.
    What version of FCP was this? The project files can probably no longer be opened in the newer version of the OS. You could try adding the .fcp suffix, but I don't think it will help for this. Projects files are .fcp.
    Regardless of the version, no legacy FCP projects will import into FCPX.
    Media is a different matter. These are probably QuickTime .mov files. If these are appearing as Unix ececutables, they're probably not recoverable either.

  • My extension does not work with firefox 5 and need to be able to download firefox 3.6 or 4. every time try to find it it keeps directing to 5 which does not work with our gaming extensions, the features do now work with f/f5

    My friends and I play Kingdom of Camelot, we use the greasemoney extension and various user scripts to play our game, the features in the extension do not work on verison 5 of firefox at this time, and we need to reload either firefox 4 or 3.6 to make them work efficiently.
    Every time we go to download version 4, we get redirected to version 5 which we do not want.
    I have am Mac laptop and a Windows laptop and would like rectify the problem on my laptops so I can play my game more effectively.

    Yep, I understand...
    This is the final news I needed to get to complete my answer... I confronted myself the italian store and the US one and in the US one I didn't find this product...
    As for the NI software, was so good that I just bought back my good "old" iMac G5 and will exchange it with this my Intel Mac. The G5 2 Ghz was good, performing as this new Intel (at times I even got the impression was more performing, but I believe is just an impression) and surely didn't have so many 3rd parties problems.
    Meanwhile I filled every forum of NI and USB with my questions about the compatibility... and maybe I will be back to an Intel Mac when all would be OK, I'm not in a hurry!
    By the way I had a listen to your work: GREAT!
    You may hear a sketch version of something we did work on with the NI piano and choir sounds, while the alto sax is played live and the other instruments are from Apple or real keys (yes, we mix a lot of things):
    http://www.garageband.com/song?
    while here is a track where we did use both the Orchestral sounds of Garageband (and some of it's loops, mixed with some good old programming) together with some NI sound:
    http://www.garageband.com/song?
    We do not often use orchestra if not as here and there (other than in some work as this last one, but is not so frequent). Hope you may like our little works!

    Hi, whenever I open Dreamweaver CS5 I get this message:
    Adobe Extension Manager loops with the following message:
    “The Extension Manager will now launch and finish updating Dreamweaver”.
    Then the manager starts and I have to wait and click a few buttons until I can close it.
    How can I stop the Extension Manager popping up?
    Thanks for advice.

    Seems to be a lot of this going on. Wondering if we're wasting our time with this??!!

    Need to know of a method / process that can be used to send the same msg to all those appearing in my email listings with the same extension after the "@" sign in their address(es) on my macbook [Snow Leopard].

    If you simply want to send the exact same message to everyone in your address book with emails ending in "@whatever.com", you can do the following:
    Create an email with subject, message and attachments but no addresses
    Open Address Book, All Contacts
    Search in Address Book for @whatever.com
    Select the results and drag them into the To: or Bcc: field of the email. If Bcc: then put your email address in the To: field.
    Send the email
    This will not personalize the emails (such as with "Dear firstname:" at the top of the message) but it will let you send an idential message to everyone who meets your criteria.

    I'm having problems uploading video taken with my iPhone 4 to Photobucket.  FB will not accept the file extension which is ex. IMG_423.  They will play on my computer and will upload to Facebook.  Why is the phone taking video with this file instead of something like .mov or mp4.  How can I change the extension after the fact and avoid it in the future?

    You said, "the 4 also has signal and wifi whereas the 5 has only wifi". By "signal", I'm assuing that you mean cellular signal. If so, that means your iPhone 4 is still active on your cellular number and your iPhone 5 is not. Contact your carrier to sort out which phone is active on your account.
