DNS configuration on new Addtional DC 2003

Hi
My PDC is on Windows Server 2003 Std SP2 with DNS Active-Directory-Integrated-Zone.
Setup successfully an Additional DC 2003 STD SP2 but with no DNS.
What's the implication having no DNS?
If I install DNS on the second Additional DC, should I configure it as Secondary DNS ?
Also, what's the next implication of having Secondary DNS?
Thank you for your help.

Hi
PDC and BDC are gone now. From 2000 on-words  we have multi master DC's. You should have more than one DNS server in the domain. You should install the DNS on second server and set it as AD integrated zone.

  • Mail server and DNS configuration

I have an XServe G4 running Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger Server, and I have successfully configured two domains that I purchased from GoDaddy as websites on this XServe. It's behind an Airport Extreme, and I have forwarded a bunch of ports in order to enable FTP, SSH, Web, remote Server Administration, webmail, and I have also forwarded the IMAP and SMTP ports. All of these services work except for email, so I am wondering if there is any special DNS settings that I need to configure in the GoDaddy total dns configuration page. I have the MX record pointed directly to my IP, just like the A record. I also have mail.mydomain.com pointed to the A record's IP (maybe I described that poorly, but I hope it gets the point across). I am able to log into webmail and send email out to other people, but when I try replying back to the email which I sent from webmail, I get a bounced message. I also cannot configure a Mail client, but I think I need to get the accounts at least working first. Can someone provide a list of DNS requirements or server configuration requirements for me to check off in order to make this happen? Does anyone know of any great resources to learn this kind of stuff? I'm kinda new to the server thing.
    Thanks!
    Paul

  • What is my DNS for my new website setup?

What is my DNS for my new website setup?
I am registering my new Domain name with an outside website service (not iWeb). Namecheap.com
What Mac OS X 10.8.2 DNS do I use for my server setup with thru their business? They have asked me this question. Or do I use their default servers as they suggest?
Please help. Thank you in advance for your advice.

It's not entirely clear what you're asking. Are you asking what data you have to provide to your domain registrar? Or are you asking for some configuration data for your machine?
Are you planning/hoping to use your Mac OS X Server as the authoritative DNS server for your domain? (this is usually a bad idea unless you really know what you're doing).
If you're setting up the remote domain on your registrar's servers then there's nothing you need to do for your machine. For simplicity's sake you don't need to do any DNS for your domain on your own server - let the service provider do that. If you want to setup your domain internally as well, then I'd recommend disconnecting your public records (hosted by your service provider) from your private ones (running on your own machine) since you will likely want to hide your internal network addresses from the public.

  • DNS configuration

    Hi All
This may be a silly question so please forgive me, I haven't set-up a DNS in a while and I know I have forgotten something simple in my configuration.
I have set up an Xserver 10.5.6 with a fully qualified domain name for example:
    mydomain.com
    machine name: ho.mydomain.com
For some reason I am unable to access the external hosted web site without www (https://mydomain.com) on the internal network.
From out side I can access the external hosted site with or without www, so my external hosting configuration is correct.
What simple thing have i missed in DNS configuration my configuration?
    Primary Domain:
    mydomain.com
www. machine (external ip address of web host)
    ho machine (server ip address)
Please help, what have I forgotten to do?

    Hi,
I think you want to replace
www. machine (external ip address of web host)
    with
    A record mydomain.com -> external IP
    This sends an external request outside and comes back in;
that way you can reach either www.mydomain.com or mydomain.com
Ensure you have an alias record in the website setup for the www.

    Harry

  • DNS configuration in two-domain forests

    hi all,
We have a forest with two separate domains.First of all we had domain A. When we added the first domain controller for the second domain (B), a trust relationship was established and look fine. but then we realised DNS configuration was not nice and
    some replication issues came out.
What we have done is setting up domain B zone as a secondary Zone in domain A, and viceversa.
We configured primary zones to be able to be transferred to the Domain controllers in the other domain and also configured notifications.
Even with this configuration, some times we check zones and find it empty but a single.
Does anyone one if our configuration is the right one for our infrastructure? I have been loking in the internet for a manual or a document  regarding DNS configuration for this infrastructure, but I could not find it, Do you know of any manual or document?
    Thank you very much
    kind regards.
    David.

    Hi David,
First, make sure that the TCP and UDP port 53 is not blocked. To verify it a port is blocked, please use the portqry.
To download portqry, please click the link below,
PortQryUI - User Interface for the PortQry Command Line Port Scanner
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-hk/download/details.aspx?id=24009
If the port is not blocked, please check the serial number of the zone in both of the primary and secondary server.
If serial number is the same at both the source and destination servers, no zone transfer occurs between the servers.
To resolve this issue, please follow the steps blow,
After you increase the serial number at the master server to a higher value than is used currently at the secondary server, initiate zone transfer at the secondary server.
Increase the value of the serial number for the zone at the master server (source) to a number greater than the value at the applicable secondary server (destination).
Here is an article about how to troubleshoot zone issues, it may be helpful.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731210.aspx
Besides, instead of creating scondary zone, we can add conditional forwarder on the DNS server.
To add conditional forwarder, please refer to the link below,

  • DNS configuration for web access

    Hi All,
I'm setting up a SL server for the first time and it's working great for users inside our building and on our network, but we're unable to access anything on it through the web (including a basic homepage) and I think it has to do with our DNS setup. We've got the domain tgroupproductions.com through goDaddy and I've set up the ns1 and ns2 info in the host summary pointing to my public ip 216.3.118.152 and added both ns1.tgroupproductions.com and ns2.tgroupproductions.com to the goDaddy nameserv list.
I've attached images of my dns configuration and of the intodns.com scan results. I just want to double check to make sure I'm setup correctly. It's possible I just haven't waited long enough for the changes to take effect
    DNS Setting: https://files.me.com...ek.klein/mp3enf
    Intodns.com: https://files.me.com...ek.klein/d33nlt

Sorry about the images...don't know why they are working. I'll embed them at the bottom of this post.
As for why I'm not using GoDaddy...I have no problem using them as a public dns (meaning I'd have to change the nameservs back to the ns17.domaincontrol.com and ns18 nameservs?) but the site wasn't functioning with those in place so we tried to set up our own internal dns. I had followed a tutorial at http://osx411.com/index.php?/topic/19-using-mac-os-x-server-to-host-websites-fro m-home/ but either I'm misunderstanding or I missed something.

  • How can I configure my new Mac Pro to output the timeline via HDMI

How can I configure my new Mac Pro to output the timeline in FCP 7 (yes, I have X, but I'm using 7 right now). I have two monitors running from TB2, but want to have the third for a client monitor.
If I use all three via TB2, it's literally three monitors, and I want to edit on my CineDisplay. I only want the client to see the timeline video on the third monitor. When I hook up HDMI I get no signal, in fact, I can't have the HDMI cable hooked up for TB2 to work with the third.

If you use all ThunderBolt displays, or stick with DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort (free conversion between the two with only a cheap cable) you can have up to six displays.
If you attach "legacy" displays with "any-old adapter", you can have up to two, and the built-in HDMI counts as one if you use it.
    Any more requires ACTIVE Adapters.
The US$100 Apple ACTIVE Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter works in every case, even displays over 1920 wide.
StarTech and Accell make US$35 ACTIVE adpters that work for displays up to 1920 wide.

  • Please help me configure a new 8core for FCP

PLEASE HELP A PC GUY MOVE OVER...
I need to configure a new 8-core for FCP mainly. I need to keep the expense reasonable so dont want to spend extra $$$ if i dont have to.
I edit files from many different camera's these days. Mostly weddings & demos.
I want to go with an 8 core either Two 2.26GHz, OR 2.66GHz? Is the 2.2 fast enough with FCP?
How much ram do i need?
Do I need to stripe 2 sata drives together for the video?
    Which video card?
Can you recommend any other software/hardware that will help me?

    Either will work fine.

As much as you want but 8G will be adequate. More might not help significantly.
    sarecco wrote:

Depends on the video you're trying to use or if you want to do 9 camera multiclips. Maybe.
    sarecco wrote:

The stock 4870 is the gold standard for Motion; the current rev of FCP does not care much about the GPU but we are hoping future revs will use the card directly.

Umm, withotu knowing what you need to do, of course not.

  • Still Have v. 10.4.11 but am configuring a new MBP and I need some advice..

    hey-
I am replacing my 3 year-old MBP which never made it to the Leopard stage, because I was chicken. This one is going to be cleaned up and given to a family next door from a real poor area of Mexico and until they saw this had never seen a notebook. So I am excited about this.
anyway, I am configuring a new MBP together and I have a few questions that are probably pretty basic, but still questions. I should have thought of this before, but is getting a new MBP with Snow Leopard installed on the machine (and I was old by the support guy who helped me with the configuration since it will be used for a graduate school of architecture, planing, and preservation program too.
any feeling on jumping from 10.4.11 (which I guess is Tiger OS X) to Snow Leopard and totally bypassing Leopard? It sounds like Snow Leopard is pretty much a major "update" to Leopard, but that is probably wrong. (Just a side questions, what does the Operating System OS X mean and do all of the operating system have OS X or did it start at OS 1 and will keep going up?)
Is there a time when a person who wants to try and focus on school or other important things can pretty much be sure that a new OS has had sufficient time for the major bugs to be worked out and most likely can feel safer about making the purchase than if they had not waited and did not really care-thinking that Apple would get them fixed and the updates would fix the problems? I do not tend to think this way, but in this situation I am going out a bit from my usual "way" and living or should I saying hoping that this has happened and is true? Does that make sense? So, any feeling if SL has been out long enough now that Apple has had a chance to make sure it is doing well and has pretty much been integrated into the hardware and properly functioning of the notebook as a "single unit?"
thanks in advance for any feedback and I apologize if the wording was incorrect or I did not explain myself clear enough.

You should not find it hard to jump from using Tiger (Mac OS 10.4) directly to using Snow Leopard (Mac OS 10.6). Some things are a little different, including a few changes to system preferences & how the Finder handles changing views from one folder to the next, but it is fundamentally the same from a user interface standpoint. In fact, there are very few interface differences you would notice between using Leopard (Mac OS 10.5) & Snow Leopard.
What you will most likely notice the most when going from a 3 year old MBP to a new one is that its response is substantially quicker: startup is quicker, apps open faster, Finder tasks complete in less time, etc. This is due both to the more powerful CPU & other components in the new machine & to the new OS, which is more efficient than previous ones.
"Mac OS" is the generic name for Apple's proprietary operating system that runs Macintosh computers. There were versions 1 through 9 of this operating system, starting with the one developed by Apple for the first Mac that appeared in 1984, but the first version to get the "Mac OS" designator was Mac OS 8, released in 1997. It was followed by Mac OS 9, released in 1999. All of these versions can be considered decedents of the first one, with strong family resemblances both in their internal structures & graphic user interfaces. Mac OS X is much different internally, incorporating many components of the venerable UNIX operating system first developed in 1969 at AT&T's Bell lab, plus a graphic user interface update (named "Aqua") more suited to its greatly improved capabilities. It is not a "pure" UNIX variant but instead a synthesis of UNIX & Apple's old & current technologies.
Each major revision of Mac OS X has had a cat name & a "point number" like Cheetah for 10.0 or Tiger for 10.4. Each revision has brought new features to the OS as well as under-the-hood improvements. Unfortunately, these improvements come at a cost in terms of legacy support. Some applications require revisions to work with each new major version, as do some of the drivers for external hardware. Generally speaking, fairly current apps & hardware drivers have gotten or will get revised for Snow Leopard if needed, but there are no guarantees that all ever will.
There are also bugs in every major OS release from every OS maker. Generally, these are obscure, affect few users significantly, & are eliminated in updates released after the first major version, but even the updates can introduce new bugs. Snow Leopard appears to be more bug free than any prior Mac OS major release, but the possibility exists that some bug will affect you in some critical way.
That said, the chances of this are low, & you should not read too much into reports here of problems unless they are widespread & describe very closely the same problem. Keep in mind that there are already several million copies of Snow Leopard in use; any really widespread problems would result in tens of thousands of complaints & probably make the evening news as well.

5 hours to do 6 GB of transfer is NOT normal, even for USB 2.0 so there's something wrong here. I'd say cancel it, wipe the drive and then test the integrity of the drive. Do some file transfers over to and see if it's behaving normally. It could be a bad USB cable, it could be a bad drive or bad enclosure. As it's new, I suspect you haven't really put it through its paces yet and it's important to do that first before commissioning it to serve as your "reliable backup."

  • How do I configure my new SSD to work with my iMac?

I just installed a new 4TB Seagate SSD in my 24" iMac (early 2009).  When I turn on my computer, it starts up with an image of a folder and a question mark in the middle of the folder.  How do I configure my new SSD without my original utility disks (they're currently in another state . . . in the middle of moving)?  I have a drive adapter and have connected my old hard drive which allows me to run the computer, but I was unable to transfer everything from old to new using Disk Utility.  Thank you so much for any help you can offer.

OK, it's not an SSD, it's an SSHD (love a set of initials) specifically it is a standard 4TB rotating drive with 8GB of SSD memory attached. Treat it just like any other drive because that is how it appears.
"After doing some reading on the internet last night, it seemed like most people said what you're saying that the disks was the preferred method.  My concern is that I won't have my disks for another few weeks.  Do most people prefer not to clone in order to shed some of the unwanted programs and "stuff"?"
If you want an entirely fresh installation then cloning is not the way to go, otherwise it's the best choice. If you don't have the disks it is the only way to go (with Snow Leopard anyway)
You could boot from the old drive and use it to install Mavericks on the new one if you wish.

  • How to configure a new third party sales document type?

    Hi SAP SD gurus,
I am new to the SAP world, I need your help in configuring a new third party sales document type for a site.
There are existing third party document types being used in the region, but the client wants an entirely new third party document type that is activated for CREDIT MANAGEMENT.
I just need your inputs, as how to go about it. If I copy from an existing third party sales doc. What additional steps do I need to follow? Like Item category config, copy control settings, and credit management.
Is there a need to create new billing types?
Also as per process, by creating a new document type, how will it affect the logistic processes, if any?
Thanks a lot in advance for your valuable inputs.

    Hello,
You can create new document type under following customization path
    SPRO>>Sales and Distribution>>Sales>>Sales Documents>>Define Sales Document Types
Now create new document type by copying the standard document type OR
    Now go to
    SPRO>>Sales and Distribution>>Sales>>Sales Documents>>Sales Document Item>>Define Item Categories
which is already defined for third party sales (TAS)
Now assign this iteme category to your new document type
    SPRO>>Sales and Distribution>>Sales>>Sales Documents>>Sales Document Item>>Assign Item Categories
Assignment needs to be done in combination of sales document type and item category group (BANS)
    Now
    SPRO>>Sales and Distribution>>Sales>>Sales Documents>>Schedule Lines
Assignment of schedule line is already done as you are using the standard one.
Lastly, you may need to maintain copy control for your newly created sales document type for this go to
SPRO>>Sales and Distribution>>Sales>>Maintain Copy Control for Sales Documents
(Copying Control: Sales Document to Sales Document)
Here you can define copy control requirements.
