Do I have to deactivate CS5 before clean installing OS X Yosemite?

Hi. I have a question about licensing and activation for my CS5 Design Premium Student Edition in regards to my Macbook Pro and clean installation of OS X Yosemite.
Do I have to deactivate the license of my CS5 before I clean install Yosemite/erase hard drive? Once I clean install Yosemite, I plan to manually re-install all applications (including CS5). Will the licensing glitch up if I dont deactivate before clean installing Yosemite and then reinstalling CS5?
I've been googling and searching everywhere and I haven't been able to find the answer.

Hi tt_vicky,
It is  always better to deactivate the product before re installation, in order to deactivate Launch any of your CS5 product and click on Help >Deactivate.

it's a good idea to uninstall all your software and do a clean install of your os and then apps.

  • PnPDriverImportError - CS5.5 clean install on Win7/64

    Hello:
Pretty new here, so if this belongs somewhere else (Acrobat forum?), please feel free to move.
And, I am a self-taught, low-end, home user of mostly Acrobat and PS, so please keep any assistance relatively simple.
Problem:  "Adobe PDF Printer" in CS4 disappeared and issue not resolved after clean uninstall/cleanup/clean install of CS 5.5.  Adobe TS (up to Tier2) no help thus far, although they are still working on it.
    History:
Had been running CS4 (fully patched) without issues for >1 year on my Win7(x64) desktop (everything was/is fine on my Win7(x86) laptop).
I noticed 1 day in 3/2011 that "PDF Printer" had mysteriously disappeared from installed printers, and I could not "print to PDF" from web browser or other apps.
NUMEROUS TS calls/remote assists with Adobe TS --> no resolution.  They tried all manner of multiple manual PDF printer reinstalls from Windows CP, copying dll files from other computer, running the MS printer install fixit tool, and even deleting OEM driver files from elevated command prompt (!), etc. Nothing worked.
Computer, physical printer, and the rest of entire CS4 (including Acrobat 9.4.x) worked fine, but I had no "PDF Printer". (The add-in for MS Office worked fine and I could "save as > adobe pdf".)
They said a clean reinstall of CS4 would resolve it, but since CS 5.5 was imminent, I opted to wait, getting by without PDF Printer.
Today, with Adobe TS assist, I performed a clean uninstall of CS4 > reboot > run Adobe CS cleanup tool > reboot > clean install of CS 5.5 from DVD > reboot > update > reboot.  NO errors, no problems.
BUT, of course, "PDF Printer" is still missing. The Office Add-In seems to be working, as before, as I can "save as > Adobe pdf".
EVERYTHING ELSE in CS 5.5 seems to be working fine, as does the computer and my physical printer.
NEW round of Adobe TS later today: same troubleshooting as last time > no joy.
So, although I now have CS 5.5 instead of CS 4, I have the SAME "PDF Printer" problem.
FINALLY: got someone on phone who found a relevant event in the Windows log - he took the entire txt file to research and escalated to next Tier.
I am awaiting an outbound call back from "Resolution Experts" sometime MONDAY (4 days from now)!!!
Deidentified (user name removed) info from that event is below -- please let me know if you need a more complete excerpt or the entire txt file.  I also have the 3 service ticket numbers from the March incident, today's install incident and today's Tech Support incident.

    Hi, Mylenium:
    Thanks for your reply.
Any security stuff running on the system?
KIS2012 (had been running KIS2011 for 6 months back in Mar when the problem first appeared using CS4).
KIS protection was completely paused during the CS5.5 install today & I immediately verified that all Adobe programs were "trusted".
There were no errors or other problems during the completely clean install today (which was done after running the CS cleanup tool).
No indication anywhere that KIS firewall or application control was/is blocking anything (FW is set to notify, rather than to take automatic action anyway..)
Also, had been running CS4 with KIS for many months without this issue (IOW Adobe PDF Printer had been working fine).
Is the Acrobat speed launcher active (AcroTray.exe)?
    How would I know?
Do you have enough temporary disk space in both your user temp folder and the windows spool folder?
1.5 TB HDD (nearly empty), 8 GB RAM - very robust hardware.
Temp folder (I assume you mean Windows temp folder) is ~empty - I run Windows disk cleanup regularly.
But i don't know how to specifically check "windows spool folder".
Are the permissions okay on these folders?
    How would I check this?
I am the only user, & my account has full privileges.
Never got any UAC prompts at all during CS 5.5 install (except perhaps at the very beginning, when the bootstrapper launched off the DVD).
Before manually installing the printer, did you clean out the Windows installer cache folder so it is not reverting to a wrong installer package possibly?
None of the Adobe techs tried this (either back in Mar when the problem began) or today.
I wouldn't know how to do so.
    How would I do this?
Does your device manager list any disabled or defunct devices?
    No.
My physical printer is an older HP All-In-One, but the drivers are fully updated and it works fine.
It is the same physical printer I had used with CS4 for > 1 year without problems.
    There aren't many other devices.
    All drivers are up-to-date.
Sorry to be so stupid answering your questions, but I am just a home user.
What is SO perplexing about all of this is that everything worked just fine for a year or so -- CS4 with Adobe PDF Printer -- on this same system.
CS4 had been installed once when computer was new (Feb 2010), and then again in August 2010 when I did a factory image from the recovery partition (thanks to McAfee).
    Everything worked just fine.
Then, the PDF Printer literally disappeared without warning or other indication in March 2011.
After the many encounters with Tier1 and Tier2 TS from Mar-May, it was assumed (by them and me) that a clean install of CS 5.5 would resolve the issue.
I do have in my notes from back then that Adobe TS said this was a "known issue" (as that blog post in my earlier reply suggests) unique to Win7/64.
ATM, I am going in circles between Dell, MS and Adobe.
    I await your further advice.
    Thanks,

  • Do I need to uninstall CS5 before I install CS6

I started to download CS6 apps, thinking they would upgrade my old CS5 apps. This does not seem to be the case since now I have both CS5 and CS6 apps at the same time or did I do something incorrect?I have subscribed to CS5 for over a year now. Just wanted to make sure.

wondered if I needed my old software on it before upgrading.
    No.
"Upgrades" are all full versions of the software. They don't depend on prior versions being installed in order to function. Upgrade licensing just means you pay less because you already own a previous qualifying version.
In the case of Creative Suites (CS5, CS6) "upgrade" only refers to the serial number.
In the Creative Cloud there are no serial numbers. They're activated via your Adobe ID. The versions available in the Cloud (CS6, CC and CC 2014) are all full versions containing full executable code.

  • Should you remove old versions (CS5) before you install creative cloud?

Should you remove old versions before you install creative cloud?  Right now I have CS4 and CS5 on my system.  Iwould like to remove them before I move forward.

Rod as Badavaraj indicated there is no requirements to keep the older versions installed.  If you have particular compatiblity needs with plug-ins or working collaboratively with other Adobe users using those versions however you may want to keep the older software titles installed.

  • Do you have to create SPN before you install Sharepoint 2013 Server?

    Hello Community
After installing WS2012 and Sharepoint 2013 Server on it, I
created SPN's for the SQL Server and domain user.
While creating the web application I ran across some information
that says if you use Kerberos Authentication you have to setup the SPN's
in AD DS before you install Sharepoint 2013 Server.
That doesn't make sense to me because it might be possible that
SPN's may be needed to be created throughout the lifetime of the
Sharepoint farm which could be forever.
So the question is, is it true that you can only use Kerberos
Authentication if you created the SPN's in AD DS first?
        Thank you
        Shabeaut

You can create it after-the-fact, you just may have access issues until it is created and the user account running the pool is logged off and back on again. Right, it has nothing to do with the installation status of SharePoint.

I got Time Machine to do a full backup of my Mac Mini to my Time Capsule prior to doing a clean install of Mountain Lion.
All went well with the install but how do I access all the files I backed up?

Was the entire folder copied including the iTunesLibrary.itl file?

  • Should I deactivate CS3 before I install CS5.5?

I have CS3 and just bought a full version of CS5.5.  If I uninstall CS3 should I deactivate it first if I want to install CS3 on another computer?  Will CS5.5 'activate' on its own when I install it?

You can deactivate on the first computer, then uninstall. You can then install CS 5.5 on this computer and install the older CS 3 on a different computer. However, if you have a standard commercial version of CS 3 you can have that installed and activated on two different computers. It need not be uninstalled.

  • I cannot connect to the login page of my banking websites for Firefox but can from IE also firefox does not close when I shut it down I have just done a clean instal of windowsws7 and teh problem persists on reinstall of FF3.6.13

I can connect with my banking websites but the login page will not come up. This is a recent occurrence and I have done virus scans and have also recently done a clean instal of Windows 7. The problem persists. I can connect to any other website with no problems. When I close FF it appears to close and Task manager shows as not running but it will not reopen. If I attempt to uninstall I am told that FF is running and needs to be closed. I have to reboot to get to close and be able to reopen.
I can connect to the bank sites with IE. However I really don't like IE.
I am using Win7 Professional on a Sony notebook VGN SZ55

I don't have an answer, but I experienced the same problems trying to set up an airport express to route traffic to my stereo.
Apple Extreme router, iMac and laptop all worked just fine for months, upon installing Airport Express (step by step, according to instructions), all **** broke loose. Airport Utility was unable to see my Airport Extreme router, after hours of rebooting computer, cable modem, router, and finally a hard reset of the Airport Extreme router, it is finally recognized by Airport Utility again.
Recreated network, iMac connects to the internet just fine, laptop (Macbook Air) connects to the network just fine, but will not connect to the internet. Network diagnostics does not help, it gets to the "do you have a router? If so, reboot" stage, and never seems to see the router.
    Any suggestions?

  • Clean install, migration, time machine

I am not a MAC OSX specialist in any way, but I would like to share what I have found out the hard way about the clean install.
    1) Never do this unless you are absolutely sure that you have complete back up. Time machine cannot restore to the latest backup status, it can only go back to full backups and those are not made very often. In my case it was July 29, 2012. What a surprise! . Do the vital backups by hand. I propose copying your home folder to an external disc or usb pen drive. Copy Application folder as well. Why? If you are fond of iWorks'09 and hate new versions and you do clean install your favourite software is gone. You may just as well erase your Time Machine disc and start backup from clean drive. I didn't do it.
    2) Make copies of your mails.
    3) If you purchased software outside AppStore make notes of serial codes. Mail backup helps.
    4) When making USB drive bootable do it this way: http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=18081307&postcount=3 it preserves RECOVERY partition which is needed for FIND MY MAC option and it is usefull to have it anyway. Place the USB intended for clean install directly into your MAC, don't use USB hub.
    5) Migration assistant never worked for me. The reason might have been that my last full Time Machine backup was done 18 months ago, and it was 10.8... I have read quite a lot about getting restore from the Time Machine, and dwelled on the subject myself.
I can't give explanation why that happened but that is found out the hard way:
    - I discoverd that long name of the user should be different than the one you used before clean install.
    - After doing trial and error attempts I made short user name the same as in my user before clean install, and started it with a capital letter. Why? That gave me access to my time machine. When the I had a different short user name than stored in time machine then upon entry into time machine all the backups well dimed and going back was not possible. With the same short name the backups were accessible. The system complained that I had no permissions to access the folders. But that is possible to change. When you look up Time Machine folders in Finder, those that are restricted to you have got red circle with a white line inside. Ctrl click on the restricted folder and select Get info. Add yourself as a user that has the access and change permissions to read and write. Your Documents folder appear in every back up in Time Machine. The best it is to change the permissions in the latest backup.
At the end of the day I managed to recover my mail. Data from other programs and my old MBP is up runnning again and faster. It takes however, a lot of work to make it.
The biggest pitty is that I lost my Pages v4.3 and now don't have an option to recover it.

Are you sure its not shown?  It should have a yellow or green icon, and list the name of the system and HD that was backed-up, not the one it's on.
If not, try to repair the backups, per #A5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.

  • Clean install won't install Yosemite

I'm attempting to install Yosemite on a clean slate. I've followed the instructions here: http://osxdaily.com/2014/10/18/clean-install-os-x-yosemite/
I'm at the point where I've got Yosemite on a thumb drive, I've held down option and I've erased the drive. The drive is partioned etc, there's no issues there.
The problem is that when I close disk utility after erasing the drive, I click on 'Install OSX' literally nothing just happens. The button state doesnt change (indicating it's thinking), I can just click the button 10,000 times and nothing happens.
I've trawled the internet for answers, it doesn't look like anyone else has experienced the same problem.
    Anyone have any ideas?

I'm at the point where I've got Yosemite on a thumb drive
Did you create a bootable USB installer, or do you just have a copy of the installer on the USB drive?
If you have a bootable USB installer, did you test it before you erased your drive?

  • Clean Install - use MSI System Drivers?

I have a question regarding a clean install.
Install operating system -> MSI Chipset Drivers then update on top using ATI Catalyst 8.4?, Realtek Audio Drivers and finally Realtek PCI-E Lan Drivers.
What is difference between the MSI Drivers and the Catalyst suite?  They same to be the same:
    Catalyst Control Centre
    ATI Install Manager
    North Bridge Filter Driver
    ATI Display Manager
    IDE Driver
    Microsoft Visual C++
    ATI Unified Stream Driver
except the MSI Drivers adds Avivo64 Driver
Also, I thought it was always best to unistall all ATI drivers before upgrading? - at least that is the concensus on the AMD forum.
    Any advice is appreciated.

    Seagate 500GB 16MB cache SATA-2 HD
    Mitsumi 1.44 internal 3.5 floppy / 6 in 1 card reader
    Samsung 206BW

    I guess that's where I'm confused.
It dosen't appear that the MSI system drivers are any different than the ATI catalyst drivers.  The only difference is that the MSI drivers wanted to install Avivo64 on my system.  Going to the ATI Catalyst site, it offers Avivo64 as a seperate download, but "Avivo Video Converter will only work with X1000 series products."   http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=vista64/common-vista64  I have a 2900XT.
The Realtek audio and PCIe Ethernet drivers to install from the MSI site are in this case up to date and make sense.
So to ask in a different way, is there a problem with:  OS first -> then the ATI Catalyst Suite (system drivers and display driver) - NOT install the MSI system drivers which appear to be outdated and the same as the ATI Catalyst Suite- then the Realtek Audio Driver, and finally the Realtek PCIe Ethernet driver.
    Thanks

  • Clean install and transferring applications

I just bought a brand new MacBook Pro a year and a half ago with the top performing quadcore i7 with 8GB of RAM. Ever since I upgraded to Mountain Lion from Lion. I have had some serious performance issues. I have already done a time reinstall and still have the same performance problems, which is pretty poor and a very hot core. I have read that doing a clean install and transfering file from the TM results in noticably better performance. I have never done this before so I like to know the risks and can I transfer my applications (pages, keynotes, word, powerpoint, ect.)

Yes, that is an option although you will need to take care you do not restore from backup something that is the direct cause of your problems.
All your applications may be reinstalled from the App Store or installation DVDs depending upon where and how they were purchased.
Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
