Do i need a new drive or should apple fix the problem!
since i upgraded to osx lion i keep getting an error code 0x80020022 every time i try and burn a dvd doesn't matter what type of program i use the some results error code.. 0x80020022 . does this mean a new drive is needed ?.. or bearing in mine it worked perfectly before lion was in stalled should apple fix the problem?
i wish i hadn't bothered with lion..
reading though this discussion forum this problem seems to be happening to others... so why it seems is apple ignoring it ?....
now if i need a new drive because of this upgrade why didn't apple say your optical drive may need to be upgraded to work with lion before i started ...

Restore your bootable backup/clone or Time Machine of your previous Snow Leopard installation and see if the problem persists.

I need a new drive for my G4 Mac mini - where to start??
Hello all,
I have a approximately 4-5 year old 1.5GHz Power PC G4 Mac mini with 1 GB DDR SDRAM memory and an 80 GB hard drive. I was having issues with it running slow, not being able to access different files/applications, etc. so I ran Disk Warrior on it and received the warning that it was not able to replace the directory and that I should save all files from the Preview directory (which I have been able to do).
I took the mini to my local Genius Bar and was told that the most likely problem was a failing drive. Unfortunate as that is, I am happy I was able to make back-ups of all important files on it, and have resigned myself to making the necessary repairs to get it running again.
As I have yet to ever run across this type of problem (replacing a drive to a computer) I obviosuly have a few questions to that end. As some of them may be buried in threads that might be hard to find, I was wondering if folks out there would have the answers to a few simple questions I had regarding this upcoming task.
First, would this be a failing optical drive or hard drive from the way I've described the problem? I seem to be able to get the mini "running", that is able to copy files, etc. if I first run Disk Warrior on it and ten restart - but it is still unable to open things such as Safari or iTunes.
Second, what are the best options for replacement in terms of price/speed/memory? I would love to have the newer intel processor in it, but don't even know if this is something that would be replaced with a new drive (shows how much I know! :^) I don't need as much hard drive space since external drives are fairly cheap - my main focus would be a faster processor and RAM.
Is this something a pretty capable person should attempt to replace themselves, or is going to Best Buy or something along those lines a better choice for the security of not messing the mini itself up? I feel fairly comfortable doing it if it is possible, I would just hate to fry the entire computer if it is a really tricky process.

Hard drive. DW and other such utilities don't even work on optical drives, and an optical drive problem would not cause boot problems and the other symptoms that you describe. But before you replace the drive, I'd suggest you try reformatting the drive ("erasing" in the terminology used in Disk Utility) and reinstalling Mac OS X. That may fix the problem. If not, then you can look into replacing the drive.

Sorry, but replacing the processor can't be done. If you want a faster processor, you'll have to purchase a newer mini.

Avoid Best Buy like the plague. They're far more likely to cause problems for your mini than you would be doing it yourself. There are a number of sites on the web that have instructions. Here's one:

I'm having a billing issue with my apple id. I got my first iPhone today and I've signe din etc however before i can download any apps etc i need to resolve an old payment apparently. The problem is i cant enter my new card details because the issue is registered to when i was in America and i require to pay the funds from an American source. Any ideas how i can resolve this? [4/15/14 edit #3] I posted the requested troubleshooting information and made a backup of Profiles using MozBackup, so my remaining problem is the presence of two Inboxes, both receiving messages, and my not being sure which one can safely be deleted nor how to safely delete it.
[4/14/14 edit #2] T'bird's Help taught me where my "Profiles" are stored but I found I had no backup of them. However, I now discover that I have TWO Inboxes - hadn't noticed that quirk before. Thankfully, one of them still contains all of my old messages! The Inbox that still has all of my old mail is listed as a subfolder under "Local Folders" and the Inbox that I thought was my only Inbox is listed as a subfolder under the top folder whose name is my email address. Both Inboxes are now retrieving my new mail. Does this mean I have somehow created two accounts? If so, how do I get rid of the account that uses the Inbox that does not have all my old mail in it? I don't want to get rid of the wrong account but I suspect the "right" one should be listed under my email address, not under "Local Folders". If anyone understands this mess that I've created, I'd really appreciate some advice so I don't make things worse. At least I've now learned what it is that I need to back up.
[4/14/14 edit #1] Following is a major update of the problem I described before (see below). I disabled the Mail Shield portion of my Free Avast antivirus software and discovered that TB was again able to retrieve my email. Then I re-enabled Avast to see if it blocked TB again. It did not. So, apparently simply turning Avast's Mail Shield off and then back on again seems to have fixed the problem. However, I'm now left with the consequences of my having tried to "reset" TB as I described below, namely the loss of a very large number of emails that were stored in my Inbox. So the remaining problem I'd like help with is how to recover those seemingly lost emails. If they remain on my hard drive, where did TB store them and what specific files should I look for? I do have a backup of some of my hard drive (but nothing under Program Files), but I need to know how to identify them, where to look, and how to get them back into my Inbox without deleting its current contents. I'd really like to also retain their original dates, if possible. I'm running 64-bit Windows 8.1. [end of 4/14/14 edit]
TB suddenly stopped downloading my mail today. After I click Get Mail, I can see at the bottom of the screen a very rapid succession of messages; first the "connected..." message, then "checking...", then "downloading 1 of 10...", then finally, "No messages to download" after downloading absolutely none of them. I also noticed that my list of mailboxes was missing the very first entry that showed my email address as the account name. Figuring something major must have been changed in my account configuration, I went through all the settings but saw no problems. Finally, I decided to try to re-establish my same account. That did place my email address again back at the top of the mailbox listings as my working account name but it also created a worse problem. There were now no messages in my inbox, I suppose because I must have created a new account using the same name as the old one, whereas before there were thousands of messages that I had saved for many years (since this is a business). Then when I clicked Get Mail, TB downloaded 383 messages that had not yet been deleted from the server, giving then all today's date (another loss since their original dates were important). But after it finished downloading all of them, clicking Get Mail still does not retrieve any messages past the time that it stopped retrieving them earlier today. Those newest messages remain on the server - but now there are 14 of them instead of 10. The same succession of TB messages appears at the bottom of the screen, but now it says "Downloading 1 of 14..." but still downloads none of them and ends with, "No messages to download". This sequence of messages will repeat as often as I try to retrieve mail but it can still count how many it is NOT downloading. Two questions: (1) Are the thousands of messages that were stored in my Inbox still stored somewhere on my computer and is there any way to recover them? (2) How can I get TB to start retrieving my current email again? I guess it's obvious that these are important problems to me and that I'm totally stumped. Many thanks in advance.Sorry. Computer iMac7,1 has been giving sundry problems for sometime. Within the last six weeks I have reinstalled the OS (Snow Leopard),without affecting the overall contents of the hard drive.
±3 weeks later the problems became more serious and I againreinstalled the OS and installed OS 6.6.7 from the internet.
I used the option to restore from the external backup driveand went back some time as it was my intention to reinstall individualcomponent in an attempt to find out where the problem might lie. This hasintroduced an entirely new problem! If I open Time Machine from the desktop itappears that all backups from late 2009 to June 2011 are intact. But, in thiscase there are none of the restore functions &c on screen. The latter areonly shown if Time Machine is opened from the menu bar or from the dock but, inthis case, available are only backups in late 2009!
I also opened the Apple Hardware Test in an attempt toestablish the nature of the problem. The ‘quick’ version said there’s nothingwrong; the more detailed one reported “Error detected, 4HD/11/40000004.” I haveagain tried to employ this test but nothing I do can induce it to open!!!
What to do? I need help urgently and would appreciate anyadvice that offers solutions to the problem.To check your S.M.A.R.T status open disk utility and click on your drive and then click on the info icon.

Now, do not worry, even if you do accidentally delete your apps, you can download them again for free with your itunes store account, just keep in mind you will lose any saved data!
Follow this and hit continue, the only information that could get lost is any content (music, videos etc) synced from ANOTHER computer that WAS NOT brought from your account.

What do you mean the PC won't let you transfer the music? Save your entire iTunes folder (this is assuming that you have all your music stored in your iTunes folder) to an external hard drive. Connect that hard drive to your Mac. Copy the iTunes folder to your computer. Hold down the option key while launching iTunes on your Mac. Select the library you just copied when it ask you to select which library you want to open.
