Do I need HDCP to watch HD movies on iTunes?

Hi! I use Windows to download and watch movies on iTunes. I have only been able to watch SD movies because iTunes warns that I need HDCP to watch HD movies. Can I install HDCP on my laptop somehow? Thanks!

Are you trying to play the HD movies on the laptop's internal screen or external monitor?
You can't install HDCP into a laptop (well, not easily). You need compliant video card, monitor (and cable if using external monitor) and proper video card drivers.
In my computrer's video card driver there's a tab that says if the system is HDCP compliant.

How did you verify network was fine?
Netflix adapts to the network whereas iTunes needs a consistently solid connection. What other content did you try?
What is your current connection via speedtest
Go to istumbler (Mac) or netstumbler (PC) to get a report of the network
Make sure DNS is set to automatic.

Try to reboot your computer. If that doesn't work, try deleting the movie and redownloading it (assuming no other AppleID is associated with your computer).
If neither of those work, try contacting the iTunes store.

yepp, I have done numerous tests today, skipped router and hard wired betwenn PC and appletv3. same problem.
same network, but from my laptop, works like a charm.. so its not reproducable on all machines.

yes yes and yes. but now the movie has completely disappered from my iTunes and from my iPhone. I had 16 days and 19 hours left to watch my movie when I started it, and after I started it I still had 23 hours to complete it. Now it is completely gone.

It sounds like there is a payback issue with one or more movies in iTunes on your Mac. If the movies weren't purchased from the iTunes Store, do you see the same issue with content downloaded from the iTunes Store? From my own personal experience, I have found that when I turn off the Wi-Fi on my Wi-Fi only iPad, I am still able to play rented movies on it. I have tried this perhaps four or five times and in each case, this has been the result. I have also noted that other users have had the same experience as I.
However saying that I have noted a small number of users that have stated they are unable to view rented movies without an Internet connection. This knowledge base article from Apple, also suggests that an Internet connection is required.

Ideally if your going to do this often is to get a AppleTV, a Playstation or a Roku so you can stream content to the TV without burning up the Mac.
Also if your on 10.5 you should consider upgrading to 10.6.8 (but watch out for 10.7 as your software may no longer work)
Usually TV's have a remote with a Auxillary input selection, like Cable, HDMI, VCR, VGA, etc, etc.
You might have to review the specs of the MacBook Pro and the HDTV to match the two correctly.

How can I watch them when I don't ave any WiFi available (on an airplaine, hospital).
Tried to watch them and the Itunes on my Ipad says it needs WiFI.

Once the movies have been synced or downloaded to your ipad, you then watch them with the videos app not itunes, I believe this is why you are seeing the message stating need wifi.
If you cannot locate videos app, do a search on the pad by swiping down slightly on the home screen to get the search bar and search Videos.
