Does Oracle store decimal zeroes?

Given a table
create table mytable ( hours_worked NUMBER(5,2));
and
insert into mytable (45);
does Oracle store the .00?
Oracle DB 10g
O/S: Solaris 10

See here for a complete explanation of Oracle's internal number format.
Hope that helps,

  • Does Oracle allows zero length string

    Hi,
    I tried to insert zero length string ('') into an Oracle table, a null value and a non-empty string. But I found that zero length string and null are stored as NULL in the column.
    Create table test (col1 number(2), col2 varchar(10));
    Insert into test values (1, 'hi');
    Insert into test values (2, NULL);
    Insert into test values (3, '');
    Select * from test where col2 is null;
    Result: 2 rows
    Select * from test where col2 = '';
    Result: 0 rows
    Is this to do with some environment setting in SQL* Plus or does oracle doesn't allow zero length string?

    Oracle treats '' as NULL.
    There are frequent murmurs that some new version of Oracle is going to change this behaviour (I believe it's not ANSI-compliant) but I doubt that they will, as it will break too many old applications.
    Cheers, APC

  • Does oracle log general errors

    Dear experts,
    I am using Oracle 11.2.0.3. I am researching on random ORA-00900:     invalid SQL statement error that we are seeing in production. Does oracle log such errors in alert.log or any tables? If not can we configure to log such errors?
    Thanks.

    Dont understand.... you are seeing ORA-00900 in production but don't know where to search this error? where do you see it?It is being logged from application in event log which I do not have access to. I wanted to check if oracle also logs such error some where.

  • Where does OEM store information about SOA composite instances

    Hi All,
    I am posting this query the third time here. I really and urgently need information on where this OEM 12c Cloud Control stores the information about the SOA composite instances like.. if the instances is completed, running,faulted,terminated in the management repository or it does not store these information at all. But then from where it fetches the information on faulted instances which it shows on a SOA composite home page in OEM console.
    I really need some concepts on this.
    Please help!!
    Thanks in Advance!!

  • Remove Decimal Zeros

    Hello,
    I managed to remove the default Zeros in the "Net_Price" and "Quantity" field by using the "Set_attribute_null" method.
    But, after entering the value into the field and clicking on the button to execute the BAPI, it is inserting decimal zeros again after the values. I want to remove this decimal zeros. Is there any way of doing this? I would greatly appreciate your help.
    Regards,
    Gopal.

    Hi Gopal ,
    there is a pretty print option for this . u cn  set special formatting properties using the context editor or the methods GET_ATTRIBUTE_FORMAT_PROPS and SET_ATTRIBUTE_FORMAT_PROPS of IF_WD_CONTEXT_NODE_INFO.
    the attribute formatting can be :
    1 Display leading zeros
    2 Position of the leading sign
    3 Input Compression
    4 Time output format
    u wud like to see more on the SAP online help :

  • Need promo code for Oracle Store

    Hello,
    I am planning to buy Apps 11i (trail) from oracle store. Does any one have any coupon or rebate code?. Every $$$ would go a long way.
    Thanking In Advance,
    Sathish

    you can retrive a blob column just like retriving any other type of column in sql when you retrive the data from the result set use the getByteStream method and then read the returned InputStream
    Blob column can be used to store the content of the file and the content do not include the file name. If you want to store the file name you will need another VARCHAR column for that.

  • How does oracle initialize datafile?

    Hi,
    Does anyone know how oracle initialize a datafile? In the following command, does oracle writes zeros to the 5MB datafile?
    # create tablespace test_ts datafile '/u01/oracle/data.dbf' size 500M;
    Thanks,
    R-

    Hi,
    With two consecutive posts stating that the 0's aren't really 0's I feel the need to check my results, so now I reproduced my test case but now with a 300M datafile, it took nearly 80 seconds in my OEL 5.2 (VMWare Workstation), then I checked the contents with bvi and after the header only 0's, then shred again (it took less than 10 seconds) and then bvi again and the contents are random data. Then I created the tablespace again, well assuming the file is already created and it's only a matter of marking in some place that the contents should be interpreted as "empty" space without actually zeroing the file, the creation of the datafile reusing the already existing datafile should take a few seconds, but really took the same 80 seconds it took the first time, so or Oracle is really slow creating the header or it's actually zeroing the contents (or delegating this task to the OS, I don't know). Now I see you're talking about an ascii 0 (hex 30) and I'm talking about a hex 0 (null), in that case yes, they aren't ascii 0's. Then to sumarize, the OP asked if Oracle writes zeros to the datafile and my answer is: when the datafile is create Oracle formats the contents writing zeros, but hex zeros not ascii zeros, the blocks actually don't contain user info but they're now prepared to receive it.
    Enrique
    PS: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hex_editor
    >
    By using a hex editor, a user can see or edit the raw and exact contents of a file as opposed to the interpretation of the same content that other, higher level application software may associate with the file format. For example, this could be raw image data, in contrast to the way image editing software would interpret the same file.>

  • How does oracle i officially /i define b Database /b

    <h1>How does oracle <i>officially</i> define <b>Database</b></h1>
    There are many definitions I have found on google ( by searching define: database )
    how does oracle <i>officially</i> define <b>Database</b>.

    From
    http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14220/intro.htm#sthref11
    An Oracle database is a collection of data treated as a unit. The purpose of a database is to store and retrieve related information. A database server is the key to solving the problems of information management. In general, a server reliably manages a large amount of data in a multiuser environment so that many users can concurrently access the same data. All this is accomplished while delivering high performance. A database server also prevents unauthorized access and provides efficient solutions for failure recovery.

  • Where does ODI stores its varaible values if the type is Text

    Hi All,
    I have already wasted my 2 to 3 hour just trying to find "where does ODI stores its value for variables if type is text". Certainly "SNP_VAR" is not the anwser.
    Following ways I have tried:
    (1) Cannot find any column tat can hold more than 400 characters in my work repository.
    (2) Trying to set up trace on Oracle drive to find out sql getting issues when we hit refresh button on ODI variable. Is anyone aware how to trace driver sqls ?
    Regards,
    amit

    Hi Amit,
    When it is a text variable it is stored at SNP_EXP_TXT in so many records as necessary once the text is "broken" in blocks of 256 character lenght. It means that if the variable has a text with 700 characters you will find 3 records at SNP_EXP_TXT.
    Does it help you?

  • HT3842 Does iTunes store the original music file and copy it into a separate folder? If i delete the original file from finder will it remove it from my iTunes library?

    Hi, on my last PC when transferring music to my new MacBook Pro i noticed i had about 6 duplicated of each song in every album i took hours in removing them.
    I Just wondered Does iTunes store the original music file and then copy it into a separate folder?
    If i delete the original file from finder will it remove it from my iTunes library or vice versa. I didnt want to lose any music like i have some how managed to on my old computer.
    Or should i keep both files of it in the Music folder and also iTunes library folder?
    Which is best ?

    DrewPowell wrote:

    It does both at the same time.
    When you add files to iTunes, it copies them into /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/ folder. The original file remains where it was.
    You can drag a file to /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/Automatically add to iTunes/ folder.
    This will add to iTunes and move it to /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/.
    I keep a shortcut of this folder on my desktop then simply drag files to the shortcut to add to iTunes.
    Then there are no "extra" files around.

  • SSRS 2008 R2 calls Oracle stor proc produces error invalid number or type of parameters

    Hi,
    Our Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) version 2008 R2 reports have been working for years. They retrieve data from stored procedures on an Oracle 11 DB using the Oracle 11 Client. After the Oracle Client on the SSRS server was upgraded from version 11 to 12, none of the reports work anymore.
    Trying to open any report in IE displays the following error:
    Query execution failed for dataset 'ds_MyDataset'. ---> System.Data.OracleClient.OracleException:
    ORA-06550: line 1, column 7: PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'usp_MyOracleStoredProc'
    ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:
    PL/SQL: Statement ignored
    The simplest example we're using to troubleshoot the problem is a report that has no parameters, which calls an Oracle stored procedure which has no input parameters, and only 1 output parameter (of type "Ref Cursor", the one Oracle needs in order to return the resultset). Even this simple report produces the error shown above.
    I placed a "debugging aid" inside the body of the stored procedure, a SQL insert statement to log to a table, so I can see if the body of the procedure's being executed at all. It never runs. That leads me to think that the error occurs before executing the procedure, when SSRS is probably using something like DeriveParameters() to detect the number and type of parameters the procedure has.
    This leads me to think that when SSRS detects which parameters the Oracle procedure has, the Oracle Client returns 1 parameter (the output cursor). SSRS looks at the number of parameters defined in the report's dataset, and it finds zero b/c the output cursor parameter Oracle uses to return the data doesn't need or can't be defined in SSRS. Then SSRS compares 1 <> 0, and displays the error.
    So, in order to test, I removed the output parameter (the one of type "Ref Cursor") from the Oracle stored procedure, and then the report runs, and the body of the procedure gets executed. There are no errors, but no data b/c the output cursor parameter has being removed from the Oracle procedure.
    This leads me to think that in this case, when SSRS detects which parameters the Oracle procedure has, the Oracle Client returns zero parameters. SSRS looks at the number of parameters defined in the report's dataset, and it matches b/c there aren't any, so SSRS proceeds to execute the procedure.
    Could there be a "miscommunication" between SSRS 2208 R2 and Oracle Client 12 in reference to the number of parameters, b/c with Client 11 all reports work, but with 12 none works?
    Any help with this matter will be greatly appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    Richard

    Our Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) version 2008 R2 reports have been working for years. They retrieve data from stored procedures on an Oracle 11 DB using the Oracle 11 Client. After the Oracle Client on the SSRS server was upgraded from version 11 to 12, none of the reports work anymore.
    Havent' run across that one before but it sounds like more of a problem with SSRS than anything to do with Oracle.
    But what you posted above raises the obvious question: WHY?
    Why did you upgrad the Oracle client to 12c to begin with if you are still using an Oracle 11g database? Major upgrades like that are normally done for very specific reasons so what were they?
    I suggest you test by reinstalling the 11g client and get your reports working again.
    Also - did you install the new version of ODAC to support the new Oracle client? There could be a compatibility issue if you are using a new Oracle client but the older ODAC version.
    ODAC 12c Release 2 installation instructions
    You also need to make sure the bit versions (32 vs 64 bit) match.

    Where does Messages store attachments on the iPad?
    some photos are quite large, so it would be good to know where they go, and how to manage the app.... ;)

    Managing memory usage is not possible because the user does not have access to the file structure (unless you have jail broken your iPad that is).
